  recently, my old keyboard on my Alienware M14x died and I had to buy a replacement. not knowing about two different types of keyboards (or maybe even three), I bought the keyboard instead of R1 R2. Thus, for keys (a, s, d and e) do not work. It is anyway possible to have the keyboard does work (maybe to install drivers or reprogram a chip)? the alternative is to get the correct keyboard, which will cost money and time. Thanks for any help.

  Unfortunately there are no drivers that can make the keyboard to work. I will recommend you to sell one and try to get one for the M14XR1.

• Solid State Drive for Alienware 17 R2 m2 screws (2015)

  I recently bought a (Crucial) M.2 SSD for my laptop from Alienware R2 17.  The screws needed to secure the SSD for laptop is not provided, nor were they included with the laptop.  It takes a very small screw with a diameter of about 1 millimeter screw hole.

  Does anyone have any info as to the exact size and a source for obtaining this screw?

  I went to Ace hardware and bought a M2, it was too long, but I was able to do the following.

  1: bought a few M2 s c r e w s (approximately 1 cm length) (sorry, dell is filtering the word s c r e w)

  2: bought 2 nuts to go on the s c r e w, when the two nuts are on the way, it is equivalent to about 3 mm long

  3: used pliers and a dremmel to compress the excess length off the coast of the s c r e w, then fact market back nuts to screw even if all threads have been affected.

  It worked for me, fit perfectly in the m2 s c r e w holes to fix the disks. Cost about $ 1.99.

  Hi, I got an alienware m14x I been sitting for about a year now because I could not understand how to solve this problem, and I think it's time that I solve this problem, haha.  My computer came with a drive hard seagate momentus xt 750 GB, and it ended up being damaged, so I bought a new HDD, the same that I had before (seagate momentus xt, 750 GB).  When I started the computer upward with the new hard drive in it, it says no bootable device, insert the installation disc, blah blah blah, so I inserted the Alienware windows 7 64-bit installation disk. When I did that, I got to the window of windows install, where it says "select the driver to install", and there is no options to select. When I went through the possible drivers, I clicked on "Boot (x :)), then clicked on the host usb controller 3 renesas electronics (did not work) so the Renesas Electronics 3 USB hub (did not either).»  Honestly, im lost on what to do. Any advice?

  Try to jump the driver option and continue with the installation.

  Recently, I deleted from my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7 and now all my games (COD Black Ops, FSX, etc.) and other programs such as Google Earth are Mid-use freezing and I have to force to leave them via the Task Manager.   You are probably running on the integrated graphics card Intel HD3000.

  Generally drivers for laptop are all downloaded from the web site of the mfg, but sometimes drivers for graphics dedicated on laptops are downloaded from the mfg cards.

  I see that the four existing variants of the M14X using Nvidia GT650m, so if DELL does not include drivers for this card then use the Nvidia download below-
  Note that your M14X may use a different graphics card, so check that you have.

  The highest speed of ram that can support the Alienware M14X R2 is 1600 MHz. We do not recommend set the Bios to operate with greater speed of the ram, which would likely cause the system to crash.

  Just a few hours by my Alienware m14x R2 seems colapsing.

  I bought in September 2012 and the system worked very well since... I didn't do any system of Respawn (the application of restoration of the integrated plant) for almost two years and a half!

  A few minutes ago I was using my Alienware as I always do: nothing else, except for updating TeamViewer version 9 to 10 (I honestly don't think that could crash my system like this) and the automatic update of the Dell SupportAssist software (Besides, I don't like this program at all).

  Then, I just turned off my laptop and half an hour after that, I start getting an avalanche of mistakes whenever I start Windows. The screenshot below shows what I always, whenever I start Windows:

  

  I already tried to return the system to a previous time in the past (using the Windows tool), but it was not successful (and he really SAID that he was not successful).

  Hello I could really use some help... .i have an alienware M14x and his orginal OS is windows 7 Home premium 64-bit... .i got a virus reall bad so I was forced to do a clean install of windows 7 then when I boot my windows disc 7, happens to the page where you format your hard drive and choose the one you want to install windows 7 on it but no hardrives appear and a dialog box appears that says :

  "A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing if you have a driver cd dvd or usb flash disk drive please insert it now.

  No, if the windows installation media is in the cd/dvd drive you can delete safely for this step.

  and btw im using is not my CD-ROM drive Moose who was a seagate drive 500 GB 7200 RPM, but the drive went bad so now im using a HGST 500 GB 5400 RPM hardrive idk if it matters or not

  The USB ports on the left side of the laptop are USB3 and does not let you install Windows from a USB device on them.

  Simplest answer is to use the ports on the right side are the USB 2.0 standard. It's really as simple as that!

  I followed the online instructions how to install the SSD for my MacBook Pro. I then rebooted by Mac in recovery mode and formatted the drive in Mac OS extended (journaled). It was a little bit tricky message sometimes giving such as erasure of disk failures, but eventually it worked. I selected to install the OS on this HD. The image of the OS were first shown on OS X Lion, but my current OS is El Capitan. I just figured that he was installing the original operating system provided with the mac. The installation went well but then we he had finished wen timer back to 1 hour, 46 minutes. He made several times and after 6 hours, I decided to leave and start over. The second time after erasing HD and formatting again the OS that came was El Capitan for installation so I continued. This time, the installation has been completed and at the end says "OS could not be installed on my computer, reboot and try again."   Any SSD with a box 2.5 "will be compatible with your MBP.  I recommend OWC SSD or critical based on my experience and other participants of CSA veterans.

  I found a few good SSD as the samsung 840 BX100 or critical, but I've also read several times that a ssd sata3 will use sata1 when installed on a sata2.

  And that is why it is better to install a sata2 ssd.

  IS that still the case today? Given that these messages are coming from 2013.

  Or is that I can put in an ssd sata3 and it will run on sata2?

  SATA III drives that use the Sandforce controller will come back to SATA I speed if installed on a computer that uses the Nvidia MCP79 SATA controller. Samsung does not Sandforce. My Macbook in early 2009 with a Samsung 840 (pre Evo, not Pro) negotiates the SSD SATA II speed, connected to the MCP79.  OWC also still sells SATA II disks, I have one in my late 2009 iMac. I chose this drive, even if it was more expensive because OWC insisted that my model should have the Nvidia controller but in reality it has controller Intel 5 series. I didn't take my iMac except more than once.
