What SSD for early 2009 imac?

Hello

I have a question to choose the good ssd for my imac 7y/o (9.1) since early 2009.

I found a few good SSD as the samsung 840 BX100 or critical, but I've also read several times that a ssd sata3 will use sata1 when installed on a sata2.

And that is why it is better to install a sata2 ssd.

IS that still the case today? Given that these messages are coming from 2013.

Or is that I can put in an ssd sata3 and it will run on sata2?

Kind regards

Ivo

SATA III drives that use the Sandforce controller will come back to SATA I speed if installed on a computer that uses the Nvidia MCP79 SATA controller. Samsung does not Sandforce. My Macbook in early 2009 with a Samsung 840 (pre Evo, not Pro) negotiates the SSD SATA II speed, connected to the MCP79.  OWC also still sells SATA II disks, I have one in my late 2009 iMac. I chose this drive, even if it was more expensive because OWC insisted that my model should have the Nvidia controller but in reality it has controller Intel 5 series. I didn't take my iMac except more than once.

Confused? Yes I know...

Unfortunately C4D Lite does not come with CS6. CS6 options include Boris FX, Zaxworks 3D element and a few others. • Early 2009 iMac running hot. Hard drive problem?

    Hello world

    I have an early 2009 24 "iMac. (iMac9, 1, 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). I am currently using OS X 10.11.4.

This problem started, summer 2014. My iMac has been in storage a year since March 2015. Here's the problem, when it started it was summer and very hot. I didn't have air conditioning. I got this iMac from April 2011. Bought from Mac of all trades. Obviously, they heat up on top, or at least this one does. The hard drive is a Western Digital WDC WD1001FALS-40K1B0, 1 TB drive.

At the point where I was running DiskWarrior, who reported that my hard drive was running too hot. The reader otherwise verified fine and so I downloaded Fans of Mac control, looked up what the operating temperature should be for this hard drive and set it to increase the fan speed, if necessary. Now 5182 rpm, it turns the hard drive cooling fan, and he reports 127,4 ° F. The room temperature is 82.4 °.

Now, let's move forward to this last week. I've had my Mac for storage, he had been in the garage of a friend of year-round, is his box. From the beginning it upward, it froze soon after establishing the office. I started on the recovery partition, and DiskUtility found that it could not solve problems. So I started from the eDrive TechTool Pro partition and run DiskWarrior. That was fine until the computer froze again. To reboot the partition e could not climb. The recovery partition would enter to Midway through the boot process and then hang. It's the same problem I was trying to start normally.

So after a long day of trying everything (I don't have a disc of starting of any kind, that I still have stuff in storage), the Mac finally started in the recovery partition. I ended up having to reformat the hard drive, make a new installation of 10.11 and restoration of my Time Machine backup.

After another day of tweaking, everything worked fine. Except the drive is always hot.

Today, it's back to freezing on me. I started the eDrive and TechTool Pro check sensors and generate a SMART report. The SMART report verified the reader, but watch it turns slightly on the warm side. And that was with the fans to run fast.

Then, after all that, I'll try to get an opinion on the health of the hard drive. If I put the fans for normal speed, now it is 2638 rpm and increase, and the reader is 138.2 ° F. This seems too hot for me. You can't touch the top of the computer for a long time. It is too hot.

Run the Apple Hardware Test disk two of your original grey install set.

  • More high graphics card Possible for early 2009 Mac Pro

As the title suggests, I have an early 2009 Mac Pro with 12 GB of RAM.

I want to update my graphics card to something better and I have no idea of what I put in the card. Ideally, I would like to put the last possible graphics card that is compatible for this.

I don't know what I would look for PCI or PCI - e and what diet I would look for that would support such a computer "arcane".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Best wishes

    Sergio

the 2009 mac 4.1 pro can be upgraded to a number of current spare cards from Nvidia and AMD, but in many cases the cards require custom flashing of the Distributor and custom drivers. You need to buy a card with a distributor of mac because versions "Windows" of these cards will not work out of the box and OS X will not support without 3rd party drivers. This procedure is not recommended by apple that would rather you buy a new mac pro and again I want to say something for $5K, which offers the latest GPU is already 3 years old.

research on the Web "Mac Pro 4.1 GPU" for more details.

2 GB of RAM is the absolute minimum to install El Capitan. If you want to run all programs then you need to increase the amount of RAM.

  • Lack of support for early 2009 Mac Pro

When Apple says that they won't support not early 2009 Mac Pro for Sierra, they mean that they will not correct a problem if one occurs, or do they mean that just cannot run on the computer at all?  I only ask because my Mac Pro is much more powerful than some new laptops that run the upgrade of the OS.

I upgraded my MP 2009 Sierra yesterday. First you need to update the firmware to that of a 5.1 MP.

Use these instructions to update the firmware. You need to download the installer

  • Portégé R600-102: what SSD for upgrade?

    Hello everyone.

I want to upgrade my SSD the real 128 GB to a bigger: what are the specifications for the new SSD to work? Should what interface have? What physical dimensions?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    TIA,
    Flavio.

    Hello

I guess that the SSD upgrade is the same as the upgrade of the HARD drive.
The laptop support SATA controller, you will need a SATA SSD.
The old drive SSD is 9.5 mm in height the new SSD drive should support the same height.

Given that the SATA controller is not limited to any size, it should be possible to use the SSD drives more of 128 GB but there is still a matter of BIOS support.

Unfortunately, it s unclear to me if the BIOS would support more large SSD drives, but generally this should be supported.

  • What SSD for XPS 435 MT?

Going to install a second hard drive in my XPS Studio, looking for suggestions:

Apart from adding memory and replacing the card system in a Dell laptop, got lucky with the assistance of excellent books on this site, I don't have much experience on the hardware side.

There are a plethora of SSD drives.  Is it my imagination, or are they all 2.5 "?  Do I need a conversion Kit?  What about a data & power cable?  How about a given car new?

What type of SSD drive would recommend?   Wish it were big enough to use as a disk system/primary.

    Thanks in advance,

    daemoncycler

It is not simple to install an SSD in the 435MT. There are a few 'Catch 22' problems in this regard. Support TRIM is absolutely vital with an SSD. Without it the SSD will eventually become slow or slower than a normal HARD drive. So that the FILLING of the function, the SSD must use an AHCI driver. It will also enable the NCQ, giving you all the speed that your SSD is capable of more SATA 2.0, which is a 3 Gbps max. Another advantage is that it makes your SATA and eSATA ports connectable capable hot, but not necessarily hot capable. (The difference is pluggable hot medium you can add a disk, but not remove it, it is hot you can add or remove a disk with the system running.)

Unfortunately, the Intel X 58 + ICH10 chipset on the mobo to the XPS 435MT isn't complete. Reference Dell limit the abilities of the chipset. While the onboard Intel SATA controllers can support the AHCI, they run in the default IDE mode. The BIOS is also limited at the very least, more like paralyzed, in fact. In the BIOS, under Advanced Chipset Features > SATA Mode, there is only a choice between IDE or IDE RAID being the default value. However, by selecting the mode SATA RAID, AHCI is enabled on all four SATA ports and eSATA. Of course, if you enable RAID after that your operating system is installed, all on your SSD or HARD drive will be lost and you will need to reinstall new OS. Thus, enable RAID in the BIOS of the 435MT before installing the OS on your new SSD.

The problem next you will likely encounter is a failure of your operating system installation. This is described in the available MS 2466753 Knowledge Base Article here:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2466753

It is a known problem with Windows 7 and Windows 8. Know well on Vista. There are solutions involving the modification of the system registry by creating keys, subkeys and values, as well as workarounds for workarounds depending on what controller uses your SSD. Assuming that at some point you get your system up and running from your SSD, there is another problem that arises when you insert a blank disc in your burner. Your system will probably freeze or crash entirely. It's because of your optical drives also in AHCI drivers when they should use UDMA/IDE. When you select RAID for the SATA Mode in the BIOS, all SATA ports switch to AHCI. Thus, before using your or optical drives, check in the Device Manager to see if you can change the driver for the SATA optical drive controller in the operating system to UDMA/IDE.

  • Will be iMovie (4K) work on early 2009 iMac?

  • 4 k upgrade for early 2009 double quad?

I have a tower in early 2008 with a 914361344 MB AMD Radeon HD 7950 card that can display 4 k.  I have shooting and HD video editing, but I want to start working with 4 k.  I use a Vizio HDTV with a VGA or HDMI input for HD display.  I am looking for a 4 k monitor that displays the output of my card AMD, which has a DVI and two small mini-DVI outputs to display 3 signals at the same time.  When the computer starts, it will default to the DVI signal.

I've been shopping on Ebay and saw a monitor Dell 28 '' with a Display Port entry.  I'm not familiar with this port.  Should I be looking for a port DVI display for best film adapter, or should I get a monitor with a DVI 4 k?

Should I consider getting a screen with a refresh rate of 60 hz to 4 k?  Any other consideration?  I know that my Tower is long in the tooth that cost a big consideration.  I'm not going to upgrade to a new computer with Thunderbolt.  Thank you.

Nope, just to get a screen with an entry-no need to worry about DVI or VGA DisplayPort that I don't think that support 4 k, but I could be wrong.

HDMI can support 4 k Maybe, but I'm not 100% sure on that.  Just go with a DisplayPort monitor and you should be fine.  On the single conisderation for Dell, is to wake up the monitor can be problematic.  BTW, I've never heard of a mini-DVI port, but yet again, I could be wrong.

If it were up to me I would buy a screen of 4 k in the blink of an eye--as big as I could get, however, it is not mine.  I thought that 4 k has been at a refresh rate 30 hz, but I'm probably wrong about that, too.  The only thing stopping me now is a lack of money. Storms Yamakasi has a screen of 40 "4K for $550 on ebay

I'm sure you can find some good deals and good quality there. Apparently 4 k monitors greater that it will cost you a lot more... Well there ' tis

  • What SSD for T440p (2014)?

    Hey guys,.

I have a few question and would be grateful if someone could help out me.

    (1) I bought a ThinkPad T440p and want to update with a 500 GB SSD HARD drive. When you purchase the SSD drive, are there compatibility aspects? I am looking to buy Intel SSD 530 (https://www.mimovrste.com/diski/intel-25-ssd-530-480gb-sataiii-ssdsc2bw480a401).

    (2) to install the SSD drive, should I change something in the BIOS?

    (3) where can I buy an original ultrabay for this model (I want to keep the 500 GB HDD as my 2nd drive)? I see a few options alternative on eBay and Amazon, but I wish I had the original, so the performance and the quality will be OK.
