Stacking multiple switches N1548

Hello

I bought 4 of the N1500 series network switches.

After following the instructions in the "getting started" manual, I turned the switches one at a time, but they are all together as unit 1. Instead of 1, 2, 3, 4.

I sorted descending with the top highest mac address. When I turn on the top switch, immediately becomes 'group 1', I wait 3 minutes and then turn on the second switch, but it also becomes the master of battery (unit 1) instead of "unit 2".

I can confirm the following:

1. stack ports have been configured in pairs. TE1/0/3 is configured with Te1/0/4.

2. I have checked cables several times agenda and are OK

3. I use transition 10Gig twinax copper for stacking

Any suggestions please?

Thank you very much

It is well that they are all on the same firmware. I asked the status of the interface, is that as soon as they are in battery mode, they should show that "unpin". Here is a screenshot of what it should look like after completing orders on the stack.

Barrett pointed out many of the common practices suggested for stacking. The best practice is to use a loop for stacking and distributing your LAG on multiple switches in the stack, are not specific to any brand or model of the switch. The steps described in the guides of the user or the white papers generally what is the recommended configuration.
    http://Dell.to/20sLnnc

Many of the best practices scenarios will change of network-to-network based around what is currently plugged into the switch, and the independent networks needs / requirements of business. This has created a scenario where the default settings on a switch are pre-programmed for what is optimal for a fresh switch. Then recommended are described in detail in white papers for specific and not centralized scenarios in a single document of best practices that attempts to cover all scenarios.

    Express.ypH N-series switches are:
    -RSTP is enabled by default.
-Green eee-mode is disabled by default.
    -Frother is enabled by default.
-Storm control is disabled by default.

Then these things can change based on the towed gear and needs/desires of the whole of society.

For example, Equallogic has several guides that recommendations of configuration detail to different switches.
    http://Dell.to/1ICQhFX

Then on the side server, you would like to look more like the OS/server role. For example a whitepaper VMware that has some network settings proposed when running VMware in an iSCSI environment.
    http://bit.LY/2ach2I7

I suggest making a list of the technology/hardware/software, which is used on the network. Then use this list to acquire white papers for specific areas. Then use these white papers best practices in order to ensure the switch configuration is optimal for the task required by the network.

  • Stacking of the misfortunes with switches N1548

I can't stack my new switches to N1548. I changed the status on two Fibre ports on each of the two switches to 'stack' by using "stack stack-port 1/0/3 tengigabitethernet" and added the command "Start Auto-setting day - sw" on both. The command 'See the switch port battery' shows te1/0/3 and 4 on both switches as a "stack." Both switches power off and inserted Dell sfp 1 GB single tranceivers te1/0/3 of that and te1/0/4 on the other. Restarted a switch and inserted a single rider. Started the second switch and no link on the switch or light, or no message to the console.

    What Miss me?

Yes, this is what it looks like, this is so that there is enough bandwidth. They work with transceivers to 1 GB Ethernet mode but not stack mode.

  • Moving to the stack of switches

    Hi all

    * We currently have 3 X N2048 outside of the firm network switches.

    * They are so interconnected with a regular LAN cable.

    * We have setup a VLAN on a single switch while the other two using VLID 1.

What we should do to pass to a configuration of the battery? (I have the cables on the spot).

Thanks in advance for any helpful answer.

There is a stacking Dell network guide. It's for the N4048, but the steps and concepts are the same for the N2048.

    http://Dell.to/20sLnnc

stacking is also covered in the guide of the user on page 189.

    http://Dell.to/1NZmFET

Once the switches are stacked, the main unit is the unit that is configured and contains the configuration for the entire stack. The backup device keeps a copy synchronized the config. In this spirit, I would backup the current configuration of the switch that has the additional VLANs on this subject. So what to do to be a master in the stack. The battery must then use the config of the main switch, with the access mode by default for the VLAN 1 to additional ports. If for any reason it is not, you can use your backup configuration.

    I hope this helps.

  • Add new N3048 to current stack of switch

    Hello

I have a new N3048 switch to add to our current stack of 2 N3048 to provide more capacity. Before lighting for the first time, that I would like to know if I need to run through the initial configuration or can I just connect the new battery switch and power, it will then get the config of the switch?

The firmware must also update on the battery, can I do this first or when all 3 switches are in the stack?

    Thank you very much.

Since the existing battery and the new, we can have different firmware revisions, generally the best route is updating the firmware on the existing stack, and then on the new switch to add before attaching it to the battery. You should not need to do any initial configuration before attaching. As always recommended is to use a ring topology when stacking to avoid "split brain" IP address and duplicate problems are common with chain failures.

  • Handshaking DMM with multiple switching devices - DAQmx error

    Hello.
I am trying to create a loop of the handshake with DMM (PXI-4071), SWITCH (PXI-2569) and MUX (PXI-2575). The three instruments are in segment 2 chassis PXI-1045 (locations, 8, 9 and 10) and I use the ways of PXI trigger in the triggers of the route.
I followed the article NOR 'Multimodule Scanning with National Instruments switches' - I modified the example NI SWITCH "niSwitchDMMSwitchHandshaking" to set up another SWITCH, but when I tried to run the example, I got an error:

0xbffa6b9a - no lines recorded could be found between the device in the road.
(screenshot pop up is in the attachment). It is the function of niSwitch_InitiateScan to the second switch that returned an error.

PIX trigger change has no effect.
I tried the CVI and LabVIEW examples with the same result.
I even tried to use two 2575 MUXes - same result.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

    Hi Pavel,

I checked that the component that controls the routing of the TTL for the PXI is included in NOR-DMM 3.0.2 (latest version as of 06/14/2010).  NOR-DMM 3.0.1 contains an older version of the TTL routing code and will therefore place several comprehensive lines scanning advanced on the same trigger.

Unfortunately, the component which controls TTL routing is one of the constituent elements of the software installed OR lower, and thus we do not expose it to the user.  For that to work, we would need to uninstall almost all the software components of NOR, which is a major undertaking.  Here's what I recommend instead:

For now, we will Garland triggers one switch to another.  This will allow us to start development in OR-Switch; as soon as OR distributes a program, you simply change the triggers as they all point to the same TTL line.  This will allow switches to operate in parallel rather than in series, and the passage of the switch of your project can run faster.

If we have to absolutely exploit the switches at the same time, I would recommend either uninstall all software of OR or get a machine with a fresh install of XP and then install not newer than 8.9.5, OR DMM 3.0.1 DAQmx software and NI - Switch3.8.

As I mentioned earlier, NEITHER is aware of breaking backward compatibility and we are committed to reintroduce the old features in a future release of the pilot.

Keep this thread bookmark and post back in a month or two and I'll let you know if we have any updates.

    Have a great day!

  • Implementation of QOS for on multiple switches for two VLAN

afternoon all that I was looking for a little help in configuring QOS for two local area networks VIRTUAL, I created. These will be for voice traffic vlan 22 and traffic video vlan23. I also have three other VLAN for pc, wireless devices and our cnc machines. We have 5 switches which are all SG30028P with a single switch making the intervlan routing (Layer 3-powered). all switches are resources shared by the main switch and ive been through the guide written on how to do it on a single switch, which I think is layer 3.

could someone help me with what I want the video and voice to take precedence over the rest of the traffic

    best regards Patrick

Right, this way, you can give priority to IP or MAC address.

No, there is nothing different, only one review of the routing. As the L3 switch can make local routing decisions, the placement of the ACL can vary. In an L2 environment, all packages are transferred to the router, then back down the network to the local destination, so you can clear an ACL on the uplink.

Since you have a L3 switch, you can practice the same, empty an ACL on the link downstream for L2 switches for all traffic subject to the ACL. Any connection to the L3 switch, you can of course apply an ACL to the uplink router to get all notice of incoming traffic correctly. You can also apply a policy on port source interface to get the note as soon as traffic hits the switch.

QoS policy is the concept of an ACL, you want it is the closest to the resource. If you apply a QoS policy an uplink upward, QoS will be marked up when it hits this port. Not before. So it should be applied closest to the device as possible. Many times, local QoS is not as important, until it starts to get to the router. As most Cat 6 environments can generally manage all local traffic. So, depending on the number of devices and the amount of traffic, a decently robust network can handle all traffic local then you just give priority to the uplink remarks to ensure that what is important is first.

  • Home network and multiple switches

Hi, I put to level my small business network that ran from ports on my Cisco SG100-24 switch. I bought another SG100-24 who will give me the required ports. My question is how best to connect them.

I am currently using modem from my ISP to a router Cisco RV320 24 / first SG100. I see two options a obvious here being just string them or simply each connect to the router as more of an approach to the tree. I also have a 8 switch (SG200-08) port, but not sure that I need more with the new switch 24 ports so it's a "Smart Switch".  I guess I am curious to know if there is any advantage to use mini-GBIC combo ports (with or without having to buy the modules) or simply to browse the two switches of the RV320.  I also use a WAP 4410 so my current pan is as follows:

    1. Port RV320 1-> SG100-24 #1
    2. Port RV320 2-> SG100-24 #2
    3. Port 3 of RV320-> WAP4410N
    4. RV320 4-> server port

I'd appreciate thoughts and suggestions, in particular with regard to the combo Mini GBIC ports.

    Hi Jason,

There are a few ways to accomplish the same thing.

    1. you can, as Mike has suggested to continue the physical isolation and each of the SG100 place switches VLAN different interconnected via a RV320 router.

    2. If you need more ports for one of VLAN perhaps physical isolation is not possible, then you may need to add SG200-08. You can try to disable some settings that can improve performance, such as Hello, Smartports macro, even STP and Green Ethernet.

I hope this helps a little.

  • connection of devices on multiple switches

    Hi all

I'm fighting to get the next job, I'm sure it's something basic that miss me, but try as I might I can not make it work

I need to set up a lab for a couple of proxies

    the presentation is the following

    Internet - vSwitch0 - proxy1 - vSwitch1 - proxy2 - vSwitch2-customer

in other words the customer traffic has to go through proxy 2, then proxy 1 for access to internet (chain of proxy)

Only Switch0 has a physical NETWORK card that I connect to who gets access to the internet without any problem

The Client can ping Proxy2 but cannot ping proxy 1 or access the network

Proxy2 also can't ping proxy1 or internet access

all devices are in the same subnet

    customer 192.168.1.206 255.255.255.0

    Proxy2 192.168.1.207 255.255.255.0

    Proxy1 192.168.1.208 255.255.255.0

    Route by default is 192.168.1.1

I don't know there is something basic that I'm missing here, any help greatly appreciated

OK, I got it, I needed to activate the "Promiscuous" mode on the virtual switches

  • Reference Dell PowerConnect 8024 - 802.3ad (dynamic LACP) through 2 switches?

We evaluate the use of switches Dell PC8024 to upgrade our backbone to 10GbE.  We use currently HP ProLiant servers with multiple network cards are associated.  The servers support 802.3ad HP dynamic aggregation of links (LACP).

The switch PC8024 does support the aggregation of dynamic links through 2 different switches, or should it be on the same switch?

In comparison, the HP2910 switches can support aggregation (LACP) dynamic links across multiple switches, while the HP2920 switches can.  If some can, some can't.  Need to understand the ability of the switch to PC8024.

    Thank you!

    -Terry

    Hello Terry,

The 8024 does not support a SHIFT of two different switches, the only way it would work, if the switches are stacked and effectively a single switch. If you have used the new series N4000 they take over MLAG, allowing for the OFFSET will be in both switches and they communicate via a peer.

  • Switch Connectivity

    Hey Cisco experts!

I have a small question, I'm sure you can answer for me. I have installation of the Israeli army for the clients that I questioned how they are physically connected. Connection to the MDF is ok because they use their ports of 10 GB on fiber optics. The question I have is if there are multiple switches in the Israeli army should they be connected to each other using their 10 GB ports from A to B and C and then also to connecting A to C on switch ports? I think it's can cause a loop but wanted expert advice.

    Thank you

    Hello

Yes, when you have multiple MDF switches, connect together to provide redundancy of the network.  Of course if you connect to layer-2 switches together, you must run stp or use some other technologies like stack to make it look all MDF has a switch.  There are also VSS for the 6500 that offer the same advantages as the stacking on the 3750 series.  In this way, your don't have to use STP.

  • SGE2010 stacking compared to the aggregation of links

Can anyone provide an answer regarding stack switch SGE2010 against the aggregation of links if more than 1 GB connectivity is required between the individual switches? Currently, having multiple switches in a stack configuration but would like to increase the bandwidth between some or all switches. Does support cumulation a link aggregation configuration? If so the ports can be used and how the aggregation of links must be configured in conjunction with stacking?

    Hi Jacqueline,.

    On the SGE2010 - Default stacking ports: 24/GBIC 3, 48/GBIC 4 stacking support, i.e. the two ports.

If you want a GAP between SGE2010, my suggestion, and others may disagree, would be to stop the default stacking mode and standalone mode.

Then create a GAP between the SGE2010 switches.

  • HP ProCurve 1800 - 24G of cascade switches

    Hello

I have the following problem. I would like to connect/stack 3 switches not by RJ45 cables copper (which I do now), but by a cascading system or optical cables. In fact, I would have preferred cascading but I don't know if this is possible with my devices. My system looks like this now
