Stand laptop only need 100 GB data store - CUCM7

Trying HP Pavilion dv6 laptop configuration on my test lab:

  • 8 GB RAM
  • Hard drive 500 GB
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit - AMD Dual-Core processor 2.80 Ghz

I have installed:

  • VMware Workstation 7
  • ESXi 4.0 inside VMware Workstation 7

I am connedting to ESXi via vSphere Client and tries to install CUCM7 (Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7) of the iso file (2.5 GB). We know you must have 72GO for CUCM7 installtion. I tried everything I can think of to create a datasore more than 40 GB, but without success. Any ideas?

try closing the ESXi VM, change and add a new HARD disk 300 GB. then turn on, go to add storage and formatting in a new data store. I think your 40GB limit is initially set when installing ESXi disk.

I have this a GOOFY VM in need of a new 100 GB drive attached to it. The VM GOOFY lies in datastore1. The new drive should be created in the datastore2 beacuase it's static data. No change in the files, basically just to read the data of documents high IO performance is not necessary.

    How do I do that?

Temporarily, I have created a virtual machine called GOOFY_D with this size of attached to the new 100GB.vmdk and assigned to the new drive as the "D:" drive and DINGO and removed from the virtual machine to inventory. It works but I want to do it properly.

Yes, it was the way of "Mickey Mouse" to do, but hey, it works!... for now.

I don't have access to a test environment for the moment. However. If you are only asked for the data store, it should automatically create a folder with the name of the virtual machine on this datatstore.

  • Storage VMotion for several data stores

I'm looking for some advice and assistance with the help of the vSphere PowerCLI to SVMotions.

I found that I can use virtual vmname Get-machine | Move-VM - datastore (Get-Datastore datastorename) that has worked very well and I was ready to roll. However, it occurred to me that I can only refer to a data store in the cmdlet and some of our virtual machines have their drives located on different data warehouses.

So I set up a test VM with two disks of different data warehouses and began a SVMotion. The result was that it has migrated all disks in their separate data warehouses in a single folder on the target.

What I need to be able to do is to migrate a disk and leave the other in its original location, or migrate two disks of different locations in two different places again. As you can do if you switch the machine virtual and migrate through the graphical interface, moving storage with advanced options (and probably what you can do via the graphical interface with the virtual machine in vSphere).

I've got ESX 3.5 Update 5 with vCenter 2.5 update 6 If no GUI in VirtualCenter and the free snap option not taken in charge is not an option.

Is there a way to do it with the PowerCLI or am I limited to migration the data store's unique virtual machine?

    Thank you very much.

This can be achieved using the. RelocateVM_Task() method of the VirtualMachine SDK object

    See the code below:

    $configDatastoreName = "DataStore_01"
    $HardDisk1DatastoreName = "DataStore_02"
    $HardDisk2DatastoreName = "Datastore_03"

    $vm = Get-VM VM001

    $spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpec
#Get MoRef for Destination datastore for Config files
    $spec.Datastore = (Get-Datastore $configDatastoreName | Get-View).MoRef

#for each disk specify where the vmdk files should be placed.
#If a vmdk should NOT be moved, enter its CURRENT datastore
#If you forget to specify a disks location, it will be moved to the datastore
    #specified in $spec.Datastore

    #HardDisk 1
    $objDisk = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpecDiskLocator
    $objDisk.DiskID = $vm.HardDisks[0].Id.Split('/')[1]
    $objDisk.DataStore = (Get-Datastore $HardDisk1DatastoreName | Get-View).MoRef
    $spec.Disk += $objDisk

    #HardDisk 2
    $objDisk = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpecDiskLocator
    $objDisk.DiskID = $vm.HardDisks[1].Id.Split('/')[1]
    $objDisk.DataStore = (Get-Datastore $HardDisk2DatastoreName | Get-View).MoRef
    $spec.Disk += $objDisk

#When all harddisks are specified call the RelocateVM_task()
    $vm.ExtensionData.RelocateVM_Task($spec, "defaultPriority")

  • Can I Exchange an old HD XP to my new HD running Win 7? I need to recover data

    Hello

I have an old m10560y of HP Media Center PC with a PJ751AV 160 G hard drive SATA 7200 RPM, which I removed because the motherboard is damaged. I was running Win XP on this machine. I only need to retrieve data on this drive... not going to use it with the new HD (below)

I currently have an HP Pavilion Elite e9150t by the following:

    Windows 7

    10G RAM

    AVO47AV 750 G 7200 RPM SATA 3G 8 / S HD

    Model #: e9150t
    Product #: NY810AV-ABA
    Software Build #: 93NAv6PcA5
    Service ID #: 110-811
    PCBRAND: Pavilion

I want to disconnect the existing 750 G HD (Win 7), plug the HD 160 G (Win XP), retreve data on an external hard drive and then plug the HD 750 G and be on my merry way.

    Can I do this?

Will there be a problem running the old HD 160 G because it works under XP or it will be plug and play?

If connected to a USB port, so no, the computer should detect Windows on the internal disk and boot off that. Not all models have motherboards that can even allow the boot off the USB connections. You should be fine. Even if it does not, simply unplug the USB cable before entering Windows and then plug it to the top.

  • Data store is no longer visible in ESXi 5.0

    Hello

I'm running the ESXi 5.0 and I recently updated.  I have a Dell PowerVault MD3200 connected, and a running data store called "Storegrid '.  I had extended hard disk MD3200 to 2.73 to space a few weeks without question or problem.  A few days ago, I tried to increase the size of the data store 'Storegrid' to include the size of the entire disk, previous size was 1.8 to.  I received an error message indicating that the operation has failed and has noticed that the data store is more listed.  I've attached screenshots showing the list of data stores and the list of storage adapters.  Any idea?

    Thank you!

I just did some testing in my lab, reproduce your problem. It worked as planned, however I don't test the integrity of all virtual machines on this data store. Assuming that the host ESXi 5.0 is the only host access the data store, a possible solution could look like this:

    • resize the VMFS partition "lost" to a size > 1.8 to (~1.9 TB) to ensure that the 'old' end of partition is included
      partedUtil resize 1 128 4080219008 /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.6782bcb0003ec6c6000002364e5797e0
    • in the vSphere Client, perform a rescan (if the datatstore appears as invalid, wait a few seconds, then click Refresh)
    • If the data store becomes available, plan to run a full backup of the VM before

The following steps should be done only, if no older than 5.0 ESXi host requires access to the data store.

    • Select the data store, and then click the link to upgrade to VMFS-5
    • Click with the right button on the data store, select Properties, and click the button increase to grow the data to the full size LUN store

Yet once, I did in my lab. I always recommend to open a call with VMware.

  • Clone VM and problem with selection of data store

    Hello

When I tried to clone a virtual machine that has distributed records in several data stores, I never had the chance to select the store multiple data for the clone, he asks only for the unique data store and discharge all vmkdks to this one, is it possible that I can choose several data stores?  for example: I want to drive D: to E: drive to datastoreC c, datastoreB: diving in datasoreA

    Thank you

    Beatrice

    Hi Alain,

When you run the clone operation, when you are prompted to select the destination data store, don't you have an Advanced button? If you click on it, you should have access to a menu where you can choose a different destination for each virtual disk.

  • Comparing the use of the data store for the use of the disk on the server virtual computer: Match is not

I'm a bit confused and could use clarification of a person.

I'm looking to a virtual machine through the vSphere Client and it has an alert telling me that my free space data store is low. 17.55 free GB of 134,75 GB total capacity. I'm running ESX 4.0 for the host and my VM running Server 2008.

I'm confused because when I connect to the virtual computer and check the use of disk in my computer, it does not reflect what vSphere tells me. This particlular VM is little used and the use of the disk under windows is very very low. About 20 GB.

Can someone tell me why these numbers are not matching? I have other virtual machines that are in the same situation.

    Thank you

    Blake

I think that you may be mixing two things up, the vSphere client will only warn about the data store, the VMFS volume, you have created and presented to ESX. You then create a VMDK file for your Virtual Machine to use. If you assign more than 80% of your data store to a VMDK or several VMDK then the customer will report a warning on its use. WARNING 80% 90% critical even if inside each VMDK file you may be using only a couple of GB.

If you give a little more detail on the virtual machine and the data store, we should be able to get out.

    Hope this helps,

    Dan

  • My 2 TB TC is full and will not back up. Yet, I have only 1 TB of data on my laptop. Note that I've reformatted the laptop since the last backup with a clean installation of El Capitan.

My 2 TB Time Capsule is full and will not save. Yet, I have only 1 TB of data on my laptop. Note that I've reformatted the laptop since the last backup with a clean installation of El Capitan.

I bought a 2 TB external hard and have used Time Machine to back up. But I also use my time Capsule, which I save wireless.

Any suggestions on getting my TC back up?

One suggestion would be to copy all existing backups that are now on the Time Capsule 2 TB hard disk. Then, clear the TC and start over again with new backups.

A more expensive option... assuming you want to keep all old backups on the TC... would be to add a new TC and start backups goes in this direction.

Another option... If you do not need to keep all old backups now on the TC... would be to erase the TC and start over again with new backups. The benefit of doing this would be that no new material will be necessary, but the downside would be that you lose your old backup history.

  • ESXi 4.1 with 2.7 to RAID server only has a 750 GB data store

I have a server ESXi 4.1 Build 260247. It has a controller Adaptec 5805Z with 2.7 TB RAID6 material. The ESXi is installed and running on a USB key. The server runs a lot and don't have any problem with the performance, but what I failed to note (after the creation and configuration of the 7 servers for an Exchange 2010 lab) is that the datatstore1 is only 740,75 GB. I looked everywhere in vSphere and online on how to access the rest of this storage. Under configuration > hardware > storage it shows the 'Adaptec disk Local (mpx.vmhba2:C0:T0:L0)", type = parallel SCSI disk to Transport, 2.73 Capasity TB.

How can I access the additional storage on the disk? I certainly don't want to have to reinstall the LAB if I have to. Attempts to increase its size in the properties of the data store has failed. No error, that he just does nothing nothing found...

Creating logical volumes on the RAID is a feature or function of the RAID controller, respectively the RAID controller software. Most RAID controllers authorize splitting of the RAID (unless it's a RAID level 0 x) in several logical volumes. You will need to check this for your RAID controller.

You should probably migrate VMS off the coast of the current data of 750Go store and delete data store. Then, remove the current volume of 2.75 to logical and create a new logical volumes - maximum 2 TB - 512 bytes by using the controller BIOS or software RAID.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 NFS mounted data store is read only

I've done this dozens of times in the past, but not with this exact combination successfully:

    ESX4 U1

Windows 2008 R2 Server Datacenter edition

NFS Server installed. TCP Version 3.

The normal configuration that worked in the past:

NTFS security - total control on ANONYMOUS logon, everyone control total

The local policies, network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users (applied automatically by Windows)

    NFS Sharing - ANSI encoding, allow anonymous access - UID = - 2, GID = - 2

NFS share permissions - allow all THE MACHINES read-write, ROOT access

The data store adds OK and appears in the list of data on vClient stores and can be viewed or directly via a Console logon.

The problem is that the data store is read only! Nothing from ESX can write, delete, or update a folder or a file on the data store. Access Windows NTFS is very well.

This means also you cannot boot from say a CD ISO on the data store, or create a VMDK guest virtual computer on the data store.

Given that I had zero problems with this in the past, when with the help of ESX3 or ESX4 connect to Windows Server 2003R2 or several NAS with NFS devices supported I think Windows 2008R2?

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I use it currently; It works fine, but it's the way that you configure the windows nfs export without having to use a mapping service (see images)

Also, be aware that Windows System Cache is a bit less efficient than linux (but that's ok) you just need to add additional RAM at least 16 GB for the data store busy.

I also recommend refining delays in setting up nfs for each virtual machine host:

    NFS. HeartbeatFrequency = 10

    NFS. HeartbeatFailures = 5

And on windows change the properties of the NFS server in the locking tab

    customer collection lock wait 5

  • View of rights only to the data store to the title of the specific group.

I have a group of developers that I manage to their ESX host. However, I gave permissions to start/stop, snaps, etc. They showed their interest to be able to display information from the data store, so that they have an idea of how much space they use with all the clichés. So. What adjustment / settings do I need to check for them to get the rights from view.  I don't want that they have rights to the data center, there are other clusters, not to mention the developer cluster.  It would be very political, if I had to expose everything 'read only' under the view of data center.  Thoughts?

    Thank you

It must give rights to the datacenter/host & clusters.  But this does not mean that we should give access to the cluster level.  You can ensure that you are not spreading the read access down to other objects.  Make sure, you can also add specific no access role on clusters under the root that you don't want them to see.

  • Need help with a Citadel of DIAdem data store opening.

    Hello

I was wondering if someone can help me to connect to a Citadel of DIAdem data store. I've read all the online help and cannot operate.

On my PC, I use DIAdem v11.1 and v6.1 Lookout installed as a plugin. I am trying to connect to a data of Citadel store 5 on a server visible in the image below, specifically the default database on HPSERVER1. The installation of MAX on HPSERVER1 tells me that there are 2 versions of LabVIEW Run-Time installed, 8.2.1 and 9.0.1 (I don't know if this is relevant).

When I select \\hpserver1\default_database, I then set the properties as follows:

In the Advanced section, I'm the deadline set to 90 seconds. When I hit OK, then I get the following message, which then brings back me to the previous screen.

    Any help is very appreciated,

    David.

    Hi David,

6.2 Lookout CLIENT is for people who do not have installed Lookout but still want to connect to a database of Citadel with DIAdem.  This works for databases Citadel created by Lookout as long as those created by LabVIEW DCS, is said by the way.

In your case, you have already installed Lookout, you don't need this additional client software.  There is no improvement in functionality in this interface between 6.1 and 6.2, so you do not miss anything, and youre data import is already working.

I don't know about lookout not appearing is not in the License Manager, etc.  I'm sorry.

    Two thoughts:

    1. If you have changed somehow the object type that you want to keep, you must remove the Simulator files before running again.
    2. How about you provide a clue as to where the class cast exception that happens? You are more likely to help in this way.
  • Need to create a structure for the target data store?

    Hi Experts,

If I create a structure for the target data store, and then load the data from source to target works fine. If I make mistakes.

Is necessary to create a structure for target?

    Please help me...

    Thanks in advance.

    A.Kavya.

I found the answer. No need to create the structure for target temporary data store. and we need to create the structure for the permanent target data store.
