Standalone Flex

I want to use some components of a Flex app that we are developing to create a standalone application for some of our customers who want to use some (small) features of our application.
I intend to use the HSQLDB in-process database, and no server-side code (i.e. no server at all) and the following questions:
1 do you have anyone try this yet? Is this possible?
2. How can I set up a connection to an hsqldb (embedded) jdbc in the process, without going through a server object?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions (even: "is not possible, forget it...") »)
Rui

Thanks Renaun, I'll try zinc...

  • What do I need build and deploy a standalone Flex/Coldfusion application?

I've been a CF developer for almost 10 years, but have no experience with Flex. I have a new opportunity to create stand-alone Windows-based applications. I studied .NET and I'm not impressed because it just seems to be unnecessarily complex and bloated. Instead, I look through my experience of CF and taking a serious look at Flex with ColdFusion.

My application must run on the PC which can be found on ships at sea. Their only link to the Internet is through a satellite modem. The stand-alone app must have entered data, which are stored in a local database. When the boss is ready, he or she turn on the modem, will transmit the backup data (it takes about 10 seconds) and turn off the modem. This means that the application code, the environment of execution, data base and services (for example ColdFusion CFC) must all be loaded on the PC. In addition, I don't want the application runs in a web browser (a lot of boats have older versions of Windows and IE).

I understand that I should be able to do using the AIR runtime.

    Here are my questions/challenges:

(1.) the application itself must be provided free of charge. I had to purchase a license for each copy installed the ColdFusion application?

2.) if I have to pay a license for each installation of CF, Flex 4 will work with an engine open source CF for example open BlueDragon or Ralio instead?

(3.) the suggestions about the database should I use (e.g., Derby, H2, SQL Server Express)?

Installation 4.) should be simple. Skippers should be able to download an installation file (for example a .exe) and run it. The installer must install the database, the last player Flash for Windows, the engine of the CF and the .swf files generated, swc files, etc.. Can all this be delivered upward when FlashBuilder and/or AIR prepares an application for deployment? When the application is run, it has to start the database engine and the CF engine and more front-end Flash.

I'm looking forward to your answers with your fingers crossed. This project has the potential to create a very cool and unique app!

    Tools:

    (1) flash builder to build flex/AIR applications

    (2) sqlite by all means

    (3) see 1.

    (4) no need to use anything, but air to talk to sqlite.

seems you almost "managed", perhaps a few examples will help to clarify:

  • BlazeDS, RemoteService on Linux

    Hi people.

I installed the compiler as standalone Flex (which means not the eclipse plugin) on Linux. Compilation of a simple Flex application works very well. My problem:

I can't access my BlazeDS remoteservice. With the tracking tool, I discovered, that the Flex application does not connect to the Web service at all. I walked in the endpoint for the remotingservice manually, and I get requests to the Web server.

    My Questions:

-J' discovered, that usually the felx compiler binds the services.xml to swf format. How can I I don't trigger manually?

-To enter the end point relative to the file swf, so that I don't have to recompile the file when the server changes its port?

    thx for your help.

  • How to get WTP on my Flex Builder 3 Standalone Version: 3.0.214193?

    Hi all

I downloaded the Flex builder 3.0.2 from the adobe Web site and try to install the WTP plug-ins for it.

When I use this link http://download.Eclipse.org/WebTools/updates/ to get the plugin, it throws error as:

Java Persistence API tools (2.1.1.v200902200210 - 7A79BjDZRDE7GUMQDJGD) requires the "org.eclipse.platform (3.4.0)" function, or compatible.

All much more than that. I know that my version of the eclipse plugin is version 3.3.

I don't know how I can improve my eclipse that came with Flex builder standalone to version 3.4. And it is also possible to use autonomous by using the flex builder plugin in not an option for me at this time.

Or in any other way, if I can use Tomcat of Flex builder without using WTP?

    Help, please

Have you clicked on the button ' Select required '? Need to add all the necessary plugins.

  • Tutorial on the edition of Flex/Air app for Mac App Store, or simply using Developer ID for general distribution

Everyone set up a tutorial on the publication of a Flex/AIR application for distribution as an OSX desktop application, or through Mac App Store, or just simply using the developer Certificate ID?

In my time as a Flex developer, I've seen some well documented things and some that you had to dig for, but find clear instructions on this is really hard! I would have thought post your Flex/AIR application as a standalone application (captive runtime) users directly or through the Mac App Store (Apple Developer ID certificate signature) would be something that many people are trying to do. But most of the useful post there are dated or incomplete, as well as specifically targeted to iOS. In addition, whenever the AIR SDK changes it seems that many of the recent posts are no longer valid at certain stages.

Many thanks for anyone who can provide some pointers or suggestions!

The page of the official doc on presentation of the Mac App Store has been updated there is a little more than two months, recent changes in the recent SDK:

    http://helpx.Adobe.com/Flash-Player/KB/posting-air-app-Mac-app.html

It must be current, even if I think I see typo in one of the appeals of command line that mentions "textcodesign", when it should just be "codesign".

  • Can you run Flex Builder 3 and Flash Builder 4 side by side?

I have what I want, it's a relatively simple matter. Society, I am currently working a number of Flex 3 projects on track to completion or in the last part of their development, phase, but we use SVN version control. It is my understanding that while you can use Flash Builder 4 to create and/or edit and publish Flex 3 projects, once you are using FB4 on a project from version control, anyone who removes this project svn will have to FB4 allows you to change the project. Assuming that is right, can get us FB3 and FB4 installed on our desktops and switch between them according to the projects we use? We hope our developers migrate FB4 they encapsulate the development on Flex 3 projects, but we might need developers working on Flex 4 projects to help on the stages of our Flex 3 applications. Just to clarify: we are both FB3 and FB4 executable running at the same time, just the possibility of close FB4 and launch FB3 and vice versa without going through error or compile questions. We use install it standalone FB, not Eclipse plug-ins, btw.

Yes - to my knowledge, you can have FB3 and FB4 installed on the same computer without conflict.

Each separate default version uses the workspace, as soon as you try not to share workspaces between both versions, you should be safe.

  • Flex modules

Flex modules roughly similar to components customized with a significant difference:

-custom component compile the class and collection of components custom you

Build the library and deliver it to the customer.

-Flex module compiles standalone runtime swf loadable and such a module - a .swf file.

So, if I leave it to the custom components of a thousand clients I give him one or two

static library swc and RSL possible swf - files. Both made all of my habits

    components.

So what would happen if I want to go with the modules? I don't see any use of modules

in such a case. I can't offer a thousand free files. Well, OK, you can tell their zip up

and ask customer to uzip them. This approach does not work.

In a great article, unfortunately an old, I read definition:

"Modules are class libraries (and active) you must only after starting the application "

(or choose dynamically at startup). »

But read the doc in Adobe line and testing of modules I do not see how to build the library

out collection of modules. And even I can build CFCS, which would be a point?

    Kind regards

    Ilya

Yes, all the modules use a factory pattern. ModuleLoader hiding it from you, but

If you look at examples that use ModuleManager directly, on

the READY event, which they call IModuleInfo.factory.create ().  If you stick a

com.ilya.MyComponent in the module, you can call

IModuleInfo.factory.create ("com.ilya::MyComponent") and get an instance of

    This clas.

  • Flex app not showing any error in Eclipse, but don't be

    Hello

I am developing an application in flex/BlazeDS/Java in eclipse and my problem is since my changes in the code do not not appear while the application is running. There is no received eclipse error, when I try to clean up the project. It is deployed correctly, but it seems to work with the old code and reflecting only changes. I tried to put the breakpoint too but it says: "breakpoint cannot be placed here because there is no executable code in this line.

    Please advice.

    Hello

Well, I never re - install the FlexBuilder (standalone, or eclipse-plugin) because any error.

Your output in Flex Build Path on your project properties is correct? Another question, can you work with Java? Several times the project to have a 'mistake' on the configuration and the deployment directory is not listening by the web server.

    Example:

If I'm working with Java and my CATALINA_HOME is: C:\tomcat\ - my webapps is localizated on: C:\tomcat\webapps\MYWEBAPP\ but my output on FlexProject folder is: C:\MyProject\Flex\bin-debug and I run the application, the application will not work...

Then. can you show your configuration? Is easier to understand your problem and help you.

  • Flex Builder 3 - no installer on the disk?

I just got my Flex Builder 3 mailed today

I open D: / but I do not see any installation or install files. The Flex builder folder has a FB3_Win and a FB3_Plugin_win are one of these it?

Yep, FB3_Win is the standalone version, and the other is the plugin for Eclipse (in case you have Eclipse already installed for Java development or something).

  • Installation of Flash builder 4 has somehow broken my launch of running/debugging/profiling of flex builder 3.

After installing Flash builder 4 neither to him nor to flex builder 3 has been able to launch flex swf:s. After hitting to run or debug flex gives a prompt saying "Flash Player is not found. Flex builder cannot locate the required version of Flash Player. You need to maybe install Flash Player 9 or reinstall Flex Builder. Do you want to try to run your application with the current version? ». The popup itself happened before the installation of flash builder 4. But normally I would hit just Yes and he would use any flashplayer is default.

Now, if I click Yes it launch command prompt with a path to the installation folder of flex 3 Builder. When running flash builder 4, same happens except the path is the folder of installation of flash builder 4. Flex then begins waiting for connection of the debugger, and after awhile, he invites a timeout message. The title of command prompts is... \workspace\project\bin-debug\filename.swf.

When you open the SWFs directly from windows, they open fine.

I used the uninstaller for flash player software and recovered both fp9 & 10 and reinstalled the. That did not help. When we browser everything works fine, the problem occurs only when you launch standalone player. I tried to check the registry settings if there is something wrong, but all the flashplayers paths seem to be ok.

Is there another hope to solve this problem than to reinstall flex builder 3 and flash builder 4 from scratch?

You need content installed FP debugger

http://www.Adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html download from here and install it and you should see the problem go away

Download the Flash Player 10 ActiveX Windows control content debugger (for IE) (EXE, 2.03 MB)

  • Requirements for Flex Builder 3

I'm confused about the requirements for Flex Builder 3.

Adobe ( http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/systemreqs/ ) website lists the following requirements for Flex Builder:

    * Intel® Pentium® 4 processor
    * Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista® Home Premium
    * 1 GB of RAM (2 GB recommended)
    * 500MB of available disk space (500 MB additional required for plug-in configuration)
    * Java™ Virtual Machine: Sun™ JRE 1.4.2 Sun JRE 1.5, IBM® JRE 1.5, or Sun JRE 1.6 (included)
    * Eclipse™ 3.2.2 or higher for plugin configuration (Eclipse 3.3 recommended for Windows Vista)
    * Adobe® Flash® Player 9 software *.
    * BEA Workshop 10.1
    * IBM Rational Software Architect 7.0.0.3 (Eclipse 3.3 only plugin configuration)

If I understand correctly BEA Workshop and both Eclipse IDE-based IBM Rational Software Architect.

I need to Eclipse and BEA Workshop and IBM Rational Software to use Flex Builder, or just an eclipse based IDE?

You don't need BEA Workshop or IBM Rational Software. I think it means that you can install the plugin eclipse/BEA Workshop on top of Flex Builder/IBM Rational Software.

If you choose to Flex Builder standalone, then you have even eclipse. If you choose Flex Builder Plug-ins you need eclipse.

  • Why use Flex?

    Hello Flex Forum,

I must admit to some curiosity about Flex. Seems what adobe is really pushing. Kind of reminds me of FoxPro and access. There are so many different ways to do things web-wise these days, I wonder why a developer might choose Flex Flash (actionscript), or others (such as the dojo) language or environment that does similar things. I am currently working on a project of e-learning that should be on CD, because the company I work for that only supports a server to allow users from outside the firewall (I work for an aerospace company) to the formation of access 'intranet' based where Captivate, Flash and Flex based applications are designed to work better.

I would be interested in any justification for the use of Flex, its strengths and weaknesses, etc.

    Thank you

    eholz1

Flex is on RIA (Rich Internet Application). If your application is self-contained and does not need access to a database of remote or other resources, you can use anything that you feel comfortable.

Flash is for uses of media, not for business applications. DOJO is using AJAX, which is a competitor of FLEX. If you are very familiar with JavaScript, you can use with Java. DOJO is not standalone application.

Java Fx and Silverlight are alternatives to Flex.

  • How to install Cocomo with Flex Builder 3 as an Eclipse plugin

    Hello.

I got Eclipse 3.4.1 running on my Windows XP computer running and installed a plugin of Flex Builder 3.0.2 .
Now that I've downloaded Cocomo first wonder where to put the framework since the documentation gives advice only for the standalone installation of FB.

    I appreciate some helpful tips.
    Best regards, Noam

    Hey levancho.
Thank you for your help. I almost had with your advice. Put it all together, it is for me:

    (1) create a Adobe ID to https://cocomo.acrobat.com/
    2) unzip CocomoSDK_0.91 and place this directory in your eclipse_install_dir/plugins
    (3) create a new Flex project
    (4) add the eclipse_install_dir/plugins/cocomo... /lib/Player10/AFCS.swc to Flex Build Path / Library in the properties of the project path
    (5) change the Flex compiler / requires Flash Player version to 10.0.0 in the project properties
    (6) adds the code attached like a test application...

I found the following tutorial very useful: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/cocomo_gettingstarted.html
Note that I've changed a few namespaces as the given code really worked for me.

    Thank you, Noam

Try to run once the Flex Builder as an administrator.

That should allow Eclipse to set up configuration files it needs. The first time, you should be able to function normally.

That's how I could make it work under Vista.
