Still struggling with windows 8.1 implemented - slow

I have an all-in-one Aspire Z3-605 with a ghz processor Intel Core i5-3337u Intel1.80.  I'm not a gamer, use the computer for crummy with genealogy and general use.  Had to reset the computer of 8.0 to 8.1 after the problems with the updates of the system in August 2014.  The computer worked FINE with 8.0 in terms of speed, so I know it's a problem with the installation of 8.1. I've only had to be upgraded because of problems with the upgrade updates the 8.1 safety Aug - Sep 2014 MS slowed the system analysis of a snail. I run avast1 and ASC pro to maintain the system and run Belarc Advisor regularly to ensure there are no problems.  I use Firefox and not IE as my main browser, BUT I still use FF.  IE is installed and updated for sites that need to access

All of my updates of system are in place, I checked the drivers and updates those requiring an update [I think].  I don't know if it's an old software instalation driver [s] but I went on: us.acer.com.ac/en/US/content/drivers and copied off lists of pilots with the dates [which I assume are the latest updates].  So, now I check each one to make sure it's the latest driver?

One of my other thoughts on speed is all the stuff that could start up when starts it.  I uninstalled McAfee, Norton, etc comes with Acer and all games.  BelArc analysis gives me approximate deadlines for the use of different programs so I guess I can turn off those little-used and which would give a little more speed.  I looked at all the processes running, but I couldn't identify many specific programs so am a bit wary of doing much with it.

I would be recognizing any suggestion - of course I don't have any idea what to do.  I've been playing with this for over 5 weeks now and am about to lose.  I have a backup off site [Mozy] more external hard drive so I don't lose files but I can't do anything, try to make of genealogy online is a joke, and it's lightning fast with 8.0 [I have a DSL line that is reliable and fast enough for the rural region where we live].

If you try to uninstall Avast, reboot and check the overall speed?

    Hello

I think to buy a DELL, probably the series Inspiron laptop.

I see a lot of DELL notebooks still come with Windows 7 and it's even a filter criterion when you browse laptops at DELL.com

There is 'Windows 7' and 'Windows 8 ' filters.

DELL is not confident in Windows 8 or what is the reason?

Also, if I buy a laptop today, would you advise me to choose Windows 7 Windows 8 and reasoning why?

    Thank you.

Windows 8 has no XP mode and does not have a start menu and is not compatible with many other things. So no I don't see things at my disposal at any time.

Photoshop CS4 and Prime Elements 8 will still work with Windows 10?  Currently on Windows 7 64 bit.

Laurence, CS 4 and elements are now end of life, we have limited resources for them. They have never been tested in 10 to win, that's why you may find some compatibility issues.

    Please check the system requirements.

  • Procrastinator XP: My wireless will still work with Windows 8?

Boy, I feel stupid waiting for the 11th hour ask this question.  But there may be some kind guru out there who could lend me a helping hand.

Bought my Inspiron E1705 in ' 06... short 1, 6 GHz, original 2G of RAM, Windows XP SP3, love it to death.  FINALLY, I must improve... but which?

Ran Upgrade Wizard for Windows 7 and Windows 8 and thought that I was very good... especially that others on this forum mentioned a successful 8.1 installation on their E1705. Great.  Have the Windows 8 disk in hand, ready to install.

But... took a last look at the list of incompatibilities on Windows 8 - and OUCH!

    INCOMPATIBLE - Intel (r) ProSET/Wireless v. 6.1.1.4

INCOMPATIBLE - 8.65.05 Broadcom management programs

    COMPATIBLE - Connector Net Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG

    COMPATIBLE - integrated Broadcom 440 x 10/100 controller

It's even worse.  Searched online - and the Intel Web site says Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Net connector is NOT compatible with Windows 8, even if their assistant deputy claims it is.

BOTTOM LINE: I have will scan my beloved workhorse ([re-installed) will stop working on my E1705 XP only to find out that my wireless adapter?

(Interactive technical support is no longer supported - online only - and I have yet to find a person smart enough to those companies who can answer me.) There may be a here? I would be grateful. Thanks a mil.)

As mentioned Intel can't stand but Microsoft natively support it in Windows 8.0 and 8.1 of Windows if it is not a problem. The wireless card will work directly with this operating system.

As I did with both a Latitude D820 Windows 8.0 32-bit/64-bit and Windows 8.1 32-bit/64-bit with Intel 3945ABG wireless card. I also did with an Inspiron 6400 on Windows 8.0/8.1 32-bit/64-bit with a 3945 card and an Inspiron 6400 on a 8.0 Windows 32 bit with an Intel 4965 card. I tend to install and test the Windows installation a lot.

I am actually writing this post on an Inspiron 6400 with Windows 8.1 64-bit and Intel 3945 card.

You have 2 choices, clean install Windows 8.0 and upgrade to Windows 8.1 also here and here:

Otherwise follow workarounds to download an .iso Windows 8.1 and clean install with Windows 8.1:

I prefer the second method because it will lead to a cleaner system and does not require the installation of a Service Pack via a buggy Store from Microsoft.

Many of us never liked burn with reminder; for PC, ImgBurn is a very flexible tool, capable.

Many programs is not designed for high DPI screens and not a problem of windows 10 of course. To work around the problem, for my HD screen, when I will work in still a lot, I just change the display size. Much easier on the eyes.

  • Dell AIO 810 printer will still work with Windows 8?

Hello, I know that Dell said that do not have a driver for Dell AIO 810 printer? The question is if there is no work around to make it work or do I have to wait for a driver, or just buy a new?

    concerning

    Rizvolo,

If you have installed Windows 8 and it is a Dell computer, have you installed the drivers in the correct order, Dell System Software (if applicable) and the first chipset drivers? How to download and install drivers in the correct order If it is not first a Dell computer, chipset drivers?

If I'm not mistaken, it is an older printer and was made before Vista. Usually using the Vista drivers, if applicable can work. I also use the drivers XP 64-bit on some models.

Download the drivers XP 64 - bit for the Dell 810 printer and follow the steps and install them on the drivers in XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Run print jobs remove, restart your computer, disconnect the printer, run the patch (cleaning of printer utility), restart your computer. Make sure that the printer has been removed, install the drivers for XP 64 bit in XP SP3 compatibility mode. You should get invited to connect to the printer.

Have you you get prompt enough to allow the printer after your anti-virus program? Enable the printer after Microsoft Essentials/Windows Defender

  • Still struggling with the Image and paper formats

I use LR 5 on a Mac, and printing to a Canon Pro-100.  I have grown my image to 8 1/2 x 11.  In Page layout, I've selected 8 1/2 x 11 as my paper size and uses Board single image/contact for the page layout.  The smaller margins he will allow me are L, top, bottom =.25 and right =. 56.  The maximum size of the cells is 8,00 x 10.19.  I would like to fill the whole 8 1/2 x 11 paper with the image moins.25 inch border all around.  What I am doing wrong?

    Thanks for your help.

My thanks to all who responded.  Very much appreciated.  I thought I had covered all the bases, but the problem is in the part of the Page Setup from LR.  Somehow the border right side had been incorrectly set.  I changed it a.25 and all is well.

  • T440s shipping with windows 8.1 yet?

Just said my T440s ordered in November is available... they're still going with Windows 8.0 or Lenovo has caught up?

    Thank you

    Mike

    Hi Mike,.

Welcome to the Community Forums of Lenovo!

Your system should probably be arriving with Windows 8 only. But the upgrade to 8.1 Windows is fairly easy. Check out the link below to understand how to perform an update.

Only the newer models such as ThinkPad Yoga is shipped with Windows 8.1.

    I hope this helps!

    Best regards

  • Computer Dell laptop with Windows 7, upgrade to IE9 and now the computer is slow

Original title: did someone really knows what I need to do?

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 (I have set accidetally to level internet explorer to 9 widows. I need to Java and Adobe. But my computer is slow. I do not know what prorams that I need to run start or to uninstall... Someone really knows what I need to do?

FYI: with a topic like this, you have 2 strikes against you. Most of the people don't bother wasting time looking to see what your problem...  Next time be brief and specific about your problem, is to give an application (with version) and the code error or describe your problem briefly.

If you don't want to be a Guinea pig, you can follow these instructions to uninstall Explorer 9:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Internet-Explorer/help/IE-9/How-do-i-install-or-uninstall-Internet-Explorer-9

Looks like you want to control the programs that run at startup, right? It is always a good thing to do. You can run MSCONFIG (type in the search window on the start menu).  See the "Startup" tab  So, you can use other applications to display the same information. For example, CCleaner has a 'tool' that does the same thing.  NirSoft does: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/what_run_in_startup.html

Browse the list of questions, and if you decide all. For example many applications load stub apps to speed up their startup. If you do not use all the days of the app, uncheck the box and it does not load.  If you do not recognize, this is often the case, track the location of path or to register 'Command' to try to understand what program it is for.  Use google to search for file names. Other people have asked the same question and got answers on the importance of the application is.

Related, another thing to work is 'Services' (new type who, in the start menu, look for the window). They are a special software that runs in the background to provide services such as faxing or printing. Yet once, often you need not all services.  You can find a lot of information on how to do this in Google search for "Harden Win XP" or related expressions. They call it "Soak" because in this context deactivation of services makes your computer safer, more 'hard' hack by eliminating the places to be hacked.  Don't you worry that many of the articles are 5 or more years, they will be still valid.  Here are some links to help you get started:

  • If FF 39.0 on a new PC with Windows 7 Pro 64 bits - in the sidebar search results bBookmarks are slow - is new facility there a solution for this?

Recently I've just set up a new PC with Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) as the operating system. I just imported bookmarks from my PC in one. HTML file, I created from my old PC. Now whenever I type a search term in the search box to refine my search for one of my favorites of many, sometimes even by typing in the term search begins to lag while I'm typing more letters. Search term/terms once entered, it seems to take 15-20 seconds before the results list appears. This used to be almost instantaneous in this same version of FF (39.0) on my old PC 64 bit of Windows 7 (Home Premium) to bring up the results. I already tried to install the add-on called "signed 1.3.1 - 0 maintenance of the premises and this time there really doesn't make any difference that it helped when I got FF 38.0.5 on my old PC to Win 7 64-bit." Can it still be addressed. Please update as soon as POSSIBLE with the solution.

    Hello

I had the similar problem with my Satellite P10. After installation of SP2, the startup procedure takes much longer. Check please the processes that start to run and disable some of them if you n t need them.

Have you installed SP2 or it is also to the recovery image?

In my opinion, it is not specific for certain just usual laptop models. My second unit (without SP2) starts a lot faster.

  • Windows 8.1 ReadyNas with sync - when online very slow file access

    Hello

I use the latest firmware 6.4.2 and network of NAS drives, I use with the Windows synchronizes 'offline' feature to make them. Operating system is Windows 8.1. I'm the only user with the 8.1 and only synchronize the network of NAS drives. Access the NAS online with the NAS is terribly slow, that sometimes it takes 2 minutes just to access a folder that is not on the first level of training, but at a lower level. I have no idea what kind of question it is. It occurs in two cases during the active sync, and also when I'm 'just' online in the network that is a gigabit ethernet.

    Best regards, Jens

You have disabled NAS Antivirus service?

I searched the Internet and discovered that you can reinstall using winnt32.exe. I tried and installed on another partition on my drive hard (I dunno really what I do.) The newly installed XP on a different partition has one problem: he can't connect to internet because I think it doesn't have the drivers and I do not have the CD for the drivers.
