Strange behavior hide conditional text

We use FrameMaker (informal) 12 on Windows 7 (64-bit) platform.

I have a strong frame and paragraphs which together form a conditional text block:

Graph of the small icon in an anchored frame aligned to the left margin.

Paragraph of body text (this text revolves around the image of the small icon)

Paragraph of body text (this text is less than the image of the small icon, aligned to the left margin)

1 list Num 1 paragraph (aligned against the left margin)

2. the list Num + paragraph (aligned against the left margin)

3 list Num + paragraph (aligned against the left margin)

I block everything described above and apply a conditional tag.

When I hide conditional text, 100% conditional text disappears, except:

  • '1.' which is part of the AutoNumber format for paragraph LLA list Num 1. (The text of the paragraph list Num 1 disappears as it should.)
  • The anchor point for the small icon embedded chart frame.

'1.' and the anchor seem to be glued to each other, when I try to hide conditional text. (They separated by two paragraphs of body text before hiding conditional text).

Anyone has any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Make sure you have your list of text symbols and select the end of the paragraph under the condition mark of all. You probbly it missed for the last item ListNum, so when you set it to hide he returned to 1.

See this thread for a similar problem: hide conditionalized text causes listed above show the additional list item

  • How to show/hide conditional text on the text selected with the FDK API

    Hello!

Do you know how to show/hide conditional text in a selected text using the FDK API? I managed to do it on the whole document, but I need to do on specific selected text...

    Thanks in advance,

    Stefano

    Hi Stefano,

This is not possible, the conditions are the properties of the document and cannot be changed from visible to hidden or v.v. for the full document.

If you really need a more detailed method, you must create a separate condition for the selected text.

  • Show/hide conditional text to a book level

I use TCS2 on Windows XP.

I have several files as part of a great book of FM. Each file has the same conditional text tags. Can I, at a level of book, put my conditions to show/hide, etc. and then update the book? So far, I don't know how to open each file, define the TEXT CONDITIONAL SHOW/HIDE like I need (is not to show very indicators and according to my built-up expression) then save and close each file.

Is there a way to make all my files at once? Note I want them all put the same way... so that might make it easier...

I do not have FrameMaker available right now, so I work from memory, using FrameMaker traditional menus, rather than the FM 9 tools.

Select all the files in the window of the book. With the asset book window, open the view menu and search for conditional text. Your settings here apply to all the files selected in the address book window, so it is possible to establish conditions on some or all of the files. CTRL + click to select non-contiguous files; Shift + click to select a range of contiguous files.

  • Book and conditional text Tags file do not match

With Framemaker 10 (CT 3, Windows 7 64-bit), when I click on a document in a book (& view > show/hide conditional text), there is no such thing as an additional conditional text tag that appears in the text document show/hide conditional.

    For example:

    1. In the book, My Book.book, I select Chapter1.fm (but do not open).
    2. Then I opened the group Show/Hide conditional text (view > show/hide conditional text)
    3. I see these two tags, text to hide and HideTextcondition. I use text hide but not HideText.
      • Apparently, at some point, I changed the name of the condition tag.
    4. I have to open Chapter1.fm.
    5. When I open the Panel of text show/hide conditional , HideText is not there.

What I want to do is to remove HideText (that I don't use), but I can't find how to court. any ideas out there?

A little more information that might help to understand what is happening:

    1. I select Chapter1.fm in the book.
    2. Then I select view according to the condition in the group Show/Hide conditional text .
    3. Select the hide field HideText .
    4. Click the left arrow (<-) to move the field to display HideText .
    5. Click apply.
    6. I get this error message in the book error log:
      • Cannot display the following tags because they do not exist in the present document

So, can someone tell me how to get rid of HideText from files of the book?

    Thank you!

    John N.

    John,

With only the open book file, even if one of its documents is selected, the show/hide box lists all the conditions in the book. The error message says you that the selected document does not have this tag. Thus, some other documents in the book has the label or that you think that you have changed the name in the past and he is still in the book file to.

So first, I'd follow the suggestiong of Sheila #4. Save the BOOK as mif. Open the mif with a text editor. Search for the following sequence of lines:

    <>

    .

    .

    .

    > end # ConditionCatalog

Remove these lines and save the file. Now open the mif file in FrameMaker and save it as a FrameMaker book (in the record dialog, don't forget to remove the string ".mif" at the end of the file name or image will complain). The book was updated. FrameMaker will then create a new catalog of condition in the book based on conditions in the files of the book.

If the condition is still there, then you need to find the document that contains still. You can use the Find function to search for conditional text with just this condition.

  • Has anyone seen this error of conditional text: show/hide is incompatible?

When I generate my book file, I get the following error in the log:

    Show/hide hidden is incompatible.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot and resolve this problem?

    Thank you

    Janie Gulley

FrameMaker assumes that when you export a book, you would like conditional text to shown the same way across all documents in the book. It warns you if it is not so.

"Show/hide hidden is incompatible" means that the hidden state is not configured the same throughout your book. For example, it can be displayed in some documents but hidden in others, or an indicator of Condition red in some texts, but blue in others.

    To resolve this problem:

    1. Select a document in your book where the conditional text settings are correct and open.
    2. Click on the book and type Ctrl + A to select all the documents in it.
    3. Choose file > import > Formats. Import the Formats dialog box appears:
      1. Click deselect all.
      2. Check the conditional text settings .
      3. Click import.

All the documents in your book have now the same conditional text as your chosen document settings.

  • Strange behavior with the function «Help in command line»

So I do a little playing with the opening of the files compiled help (.chm) with the command-line help feature, and I saw a strange behavior when trying to index multi-level access keywords. According to the documentation, if you set the 'Key' operation, you can enter a value for ' string to search for "to access this section. The more precise help that:

If this string contains a keyword index, the string must match the key of the index as it appears in the help index file. To access a topic with a multilevel index keyword, enter the keyword of the top-level index, a colon and the keyword of the second level index. Do not separate the elements with spaces. For example, a chain of error codes: GPIB jumps about a subject with a keyword of top-level index of error codes and a second level keyword index of GPIB.

All right, seems simple enough. Except that when I tried, I couldn't work, even with the example provided. I tried the following simple test:

Opens the help file, but it opens to this page, not to the page ' error codes: GPIB "non-descript. I saw this in 8.2 and 8.6. Anyone have any success with access to a multi-level keyword?

    Note - side

Curiously, the Index for the help lvconcepts.chm file looks like this:

In other words, the input index text is just "GPIB", but the text that appears in the keyword field is "codes error, GPIB. I'm curious to know how this was accomplished. I decompiled the lvconcepts.chm file and watched the .hhk file, and it is not immediately obvious to me. (By the way, if you try to use "error codes, GPIB" it does not either).

    Hello

I have a strange behavior on the main screen of my application.

    My screen looks like this:

1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are bitmap with navigation button, click scope.

I have a separate Thread for processing and this X thread updates the content of the label and label B.

Whenever the thread call X function is update the function labels are running label.setText (newtext) on both labels.

    Stange behavior:

When the x thread updated, the text of the labels (via the function Y) the emphasis is on button bitmap 1,2,3 or 4, the text of labels disappears and the screen looks like this:

If we move to the development for bitmap button 5 or ListField labels updated successfully and the screen looks like this:

I checked on debug only when the labels are updated that the text is not null.

You have some ideas on what is the cause?

  • Java Fx: strange behavior when trying to write a vertical label

I've noticed some strange behavior on the rotated texts (Label,...) in JavaFx...

Originally, I just wanted to be able to display labels vertically in a GridPane. The first problem is that there is no simple way to indicate a label to display its content in one direction and given orientation. It would be nice to have something like the property on the side of the tabPane allowing to easily turn the text...

In any case, I quit then myself to use the rotation function to turn my Label. It's when the strange thing began to happen... I put my label in a cell of the grid that is not large enough to display the full text if it is not turned, but the text must be able to adapt rotated once. The problem is that the text appears wrapped even when it is turned as if packaging test have been done until the text is actually shot... The problem can be seen on this screenshot http://hpics.li/e210f2f : the text to be displayed is written in the ToolTip and we can see that only the first letter of the rotated text is displayed in the grid of the cell even if there is more than enough space to display all...

Anyone has an idea on how to solve this? Is this the intended behavior or it's just a small bug?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Another workaround solution seems to be to wrap the labels into groups and spin groups. If you don't have enough space in the grid, although bad things happen.

  • Guidelines for the use of conditional text

I'm looking for instructions on the use of conditional text. Our company has grown, and that the range of products has increased, the number of conditional text tags has increased. We are up to 30 tags and continues to grow. I was struck my colleague to start breaking this system a bit, because I'm afraid, it becomes a House of cards. Colleague has been 20 years and grew up with the system - it's the only one that it is used. He sees nothing wrong with it. The tags are in its abbreviation. When I mentioned that everybody don't would not new understand them, his response was that they would teach them eventually. Also, it's starting to get to the point where some sentences are be mislabeled, causing many errors.

Are there guidelines I refer who say in the use of conditional text is too large so that it's not just my word?

    Milmacrose

You might want to take a look at Matt Sullivan & Sarah O'Keefe book (edition Fundamentals - unstructured FrameMaker 11; Chapter 24) for some background information on the consequences of the use of the multiple conditional tags. Depending on what your choice (i.e. to hide or show content based on the condition tag), you can get in very complex situations with some items possibly requiring each combination of tags applied to prevent display (or display) as needed. Even with simple simple conditional tags, it can reach a very large number of unique tags required (mathematically, you are summing a series of combinations). For example, [as used in the Book], given a product in Light versions, Standard and Pro with specific online requirements & Print for Mac, Windows and Unix, there are 32 conditional tags applied correctly. If you have content that should appear in a few versions, it climbs easily up to 47 unique tags. You'd be better trying to herd a bunch of cats in a field of grass cat...

  • Additional page created through conditional text won't go away

I created a page with conditional text in Framemaker 11.  Whenever I have my terms, a blank page is created.  This page doesn't go away when I save or update the file.
It gets deleted only if I delete the extra page.  Could be the cause of this page to stick around?

This weekend I sent my problem Arnis file to look at.  Here is his answer:

    Arnis Gubins wrote:

The reason why the extra page appeared when the Conditions have been used was due to having the text block high set to autologin as well as using the position of frame anchored to the "Below the line" for the two graphics of the logo. The text block is too small to hold the two graphs at once, so with the activated automatic connection, FM creates another copy of this block of text on a new page to hold the other graphic of the logo. When you enable or change conditions, FM must all show and then hide the (s) appropriate, he would always add this block of additional text on the new page to display two graphs (because that's what autoconnect).

    There are remedies.

    1. simply disable the automatic connection setting.

    2. place the graphics of the logo using the parameter "outside the text" for the had. This allows you to overlay the graphs one atop the other as you would not trigger a "automatic formatting" to create a new text frame, if the two should be made.

    3. you could also do both, to be sure that a new page is not triggered.

Disable the automatic connection setting not fix the issue of the extra page being created and not removed.  I need a little more work to do on moving the frame and keep my layout the same.

Thanks for all the help Arnis Gubins

  • Conditional text sync

    Hello

We are a translation company that translated enormous Indesign books with many tables (and numbers). To make sure that no errors are made in the figures, I have implemented a process where we create a new condition for all numbers in the document and then hide the condition.

It is possible to open all the files in a book by using a script. I then create the condition in a single file in the book and using search & replace in all the Documents, I am able to apply the condition of all the documents in the book. I can also use the options "Synchronize book" to set the condition to the invisible on all documents in the book.

    If all this works perfectly.

However, when we need to finish the files, I need to remove the condition of all the documents in the book. If I remove the condition in the style source document and then synchronize, the condition is not deleted in the other documents in the book? I can use find & replace to replace our back to the "unconditional" condition, but the condition remains in the list of conditional text, and we want that he went.

Is it possible to delete a condition for all open documents, or all documents in a book? For the moment, we need to go through all the documents and to remove the condition of each.

(that we translate books with 20 + documents in 25 languages, is 25 20 + time to click, which is a bit tedious )

    Kind regards

    Geert

I think you need to generate scripts too.

It does not disappear when you synchronize because that's the way it is supposed to work. You add missing components, Redefine even those appointed and let alone anything not defined in the source.

    Hi all
I'm working on an application that sends HTTP requests that have XML RPC and then receives the response and analysis. I tried to use buffer but it's the same thing!

Help, please. I want to know if there is a bug in this code, or it is the server that is causing this strange behavior. Why exactly it runs successfully the first time. I use java 1.5 and tomcat 6. Thanks in advance.

Read the input stream, taking note of the return value. For each reading that doesn't return - 1, add the bytes returned to a StringBuilder or StringBuffer, again taking into account the actual return value, without so far assume each reading fills the buffer. When you get - 1, convert the SB to a string. It comes in the same way as all other i/o in Java, nothing special, no magic.

  • Conversion with conditional text in table

I take the first steps in converting unstructured structure image. A single document is fairly clean except for one question: my structure breaks around conditional text in tables. (The tables have a their own, but the conditional text questions f3ew seems to make the problem worse) I don't know how it should be treated. Structure tags are displayed in the view below.

    condTable.png

And here's the view of the Structure:

    TblStruct.png

Is this something that can be implemented with a qualifier, and if so, how? In addition, in the mapping of conversion table, is there any dependency order, as well, on which appears the conditional text element?

    Martine

As Michael says, a conversion table does not convert the structure conditions. In a structured document, we apply, removes, shows and hides the conditions in the same way as is done on an informal document. The only difference is that you can select entire items and treat them with conditions.

In a sense, FrameMaker treats conditions like processing instructions. If you need to export a document structured in XML and view it with a browser or a text editor, you can find instructions for treatment that punctuate the beaches of conditional text.

So, once again as Michael, the text says conditional is not breaking your structure. It is superimposed on the structure.

  • Tag not including conditional text format AutoNumber

I try to apply a conditional text tag titles from someTable. However the AutoNumber format is not be included in the selected text. I made sure I included the carriage return when applying the Condition tag, but the AutoNumber refuses to participate.

My AutoNumber format is as follows:

    Table title:-T:Table < n + >:

Oddly, when you apply the same tag to a figure of legend, the AutoNumber is included in the show/hide parameter. My auto-numbering format Figure caption is:-Figure: < $chapnum >. < n + >

So is this something to do with the way the headings of table are included in the table format indicated?

    Mark

    Mark,

I work in structured FrameMaker. So, I'm not sure that this explanation applies to the unstructured, but it is probably similar.

If the your table is a REAL of the table title, then it is part of the structure of the table and the table format. For example, you cannot select a table heading and just delete. You must remove it from the table designer. Even if you delete the title of the table, hide it equals delete. In other words, when you hide something that is conditioned, the part which remains on display must be a valid structure. For example, you cannot condition one cell in a table, because when he's hidden the rest of the structure is not a valid table.

Therefore, because you can not delete a table heading by simply deleting, you cannot fully condition it. In this way, when you apply the State to the title of the table, FrameMaker apply it only to the content of the title, which leaves the AutoNumber showing.

HOWEVER, some people use no actual table titles, but use a paragraph under the title with real table inserted at the end of the paragraph. In this case, conditioned to the paragraph determines the table also, because the table marker is included in the condition. So I doubt that's what you do. In your case, you probably have it set up so that the legend of the figure is a whole paragraph that does not include the brand of the anchored image that contains the chart.

To return to the tables... You want to really be able to show/hide a table title and keep the table display? If you want to show/hide the different titles, then put them all in order in the title of the table, each with the appropriate condition. In each situation, show/hide the ever-present title, but something different in each case.

If you want to do something different than the above, please specify.
