Stripping and mirroring in ASM
Hi all;
I have a fundamental confusion of ASM.
Consider that I have an A diskgroup (it contains 3 discs)
I want to write data of the ABC in A diskgroup.
Option 1:
[A] [B] [C]| -> stripping happens here.
Option 2:
[ABC] [ABC] [ABC]-> mirrored two ways that happens here.
ASM does support stripping and mirroring at the same time?
Hello
In the first option that you described, there no mirroring at all. This is the scenario when you define a group of ASM disks with external redundancy (external = do not use ASM mirroring, for example when you configure hardware RAID for redundancy). In this case it will be only interlacing (assuming you have more than 1 asm disk).
ASM spreads data evenly across all disks in a disk group to optimize the performance and usage. This even distribution of data files eliminates the need for a regular monitoring and optimizing the performance of I/O. You can learn more about interlacing here: https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/OSTMG/GUID-114A8CA6-D757-4A70-9F68-C5133724D7BB.htm
In the second option, you described a 3 - way mirroring (high redundancy) and 2-way no mirroring (Normal Reundncay) which means you have 3 groups of failure. Read here for more info on the mirror and failure groups implementation: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b31107/asmcon.htm#BABHBHIE
ASM does support stripping and mirroring at the same time?
The answer is certainly yes. In the image below, for example, you can see an example of asm high redundnacy (3 - way mirroring) disk group, so it has 3 groups of failure.
Each failure Group 2 discs. ASM spreads data evenly on these discs.

SameerYes you can move the database to the ASM. primary and standby can be in any file system. As primary example can be the normal file system, and sleep can be on ASM and vice versa...

DB version: 11.2
Version of the operating system: Solaris 5.10
System administrators have provided us with a disk array with a total capacity of 700 GB for shared storage. I created two slices of 1 GB for disc OCR and VOTE.
Now, I find myself with 698 GB I would use to create a group of disks for data files. Using
command I can create several tranches from there or I could simply create a slice of 698 GB. Should which option I choose?format
For normal redundancy in ASMCA option, you must have at least 3 slices.
ASM actually offers mirroring? Lets say that one of the slices we used to create the disk group had a hardware failure. Will we ever know of this failure?Hello

You use the storage?
If so, I sugest you use conventional RAID on the storage systems, if you have the choice.
Create LUNS/disks for the first diskgroup to store VOTING and OCR.

I recommend create you discs (slice) or ONE of the 100GBytes. This will help you in the future management of the environment.
If you use more than one of THEM, this will make a big difference. For normal redundancy in ASMCA option, you must have at least 3 slices.
ASM actually offers mirroring? Lets say that one of the slices we used to create the disk group had a hardware failure. Will we ever know of this failure?Yes ASM provide mirroring, but if you use a disk (lun) not supposed to create mirroring in the same drive. You will need at least two disks in different tables.

I restared my Iphone 7 more because I tried to update 10.0.2 and just before it turned off my entire screen turned stripes gray and white goes horzitonally on the screen then powered back and its been working fine since. I tried this on an Iphone 6s and he did the same so, the iPhone was in version 10.0.2. Can someone tell me if this has happened to you? Try to restart your phone to see if it happens. If you have an iPhone 7, you must hold down the power button and the volume at the same time as the home button is virtual now.
This happened to me on my Mini 4 and my iPhone 6. Both of them work fine, but I noticed the same problem that you have indeed. Must be a bug in iOS 10.

Qosmio F30-112 - small strips and dots on the screen
Hello
I need help, my laptop (Qosmio F30 - 112) have a problem.
When I started it scratch on the screen and flashes.
Then if I try to reboot it works, but not normal; still have a small scratches and dots on the screen.
I checked it on the Device Manager NVIDIA GForce with a yellow mark.
I tried to uninstall it but nothings happened. Please some body help me what to do in this case?
And if you have to replace the VGA CARD, is it possible to upgrade? and what (NVIDIAGforce) parts are compatible for my laptop (RAM memory upgraded 4 GB 320 GB hard drive and windows 7 Home premium)
Thank you
rtmasagcaHello
Have you tried to install or update the display driver?
Please check this because the yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager may mean that the display driver is missing and so the graphics card does not work properly.Otherwise, it could be a GPU problem.
This can be tested easily; connect an external monitor and check if the same stripes, points would be visible on the monitor that is eternal. If Yes, then it s certainly a GPU problem.
In this case, only the replacement of the motherboard might help.
Also, upgrade is not possible. -
Skype, Apple TV and mirror
My Apple TV mirroring works very well with everything, except Skype. I see all my contacts on my TV screen, I can still see the call through but as soon as they respond it is de-energized. The Skype connection is still ok on my iPad. I've updated all my software, but nothing seems to work for me. Ive seen this works well for other people, so I know it is compatible. Any help / advice appreciated!
It does the same thing for me. iPad3 and last updated Apple TV V3.
Fine mirrors until when the contact accepts the call, then the TV goes back to the Apple TV menu.
BUT in this case it starts working again. When the appeal was allowed and the TV will go back in the Apple TV menu, then make up the menu of mirroring on the iPad AGAIN and start once AGAIN mirroring. When you do that, you will see your interlocutor on the TV.
Do not know what is happening. Obviously Skype does not correctly supports good video mode full-screen Apple TV, but why he drop out of the mirroring?
Let us know if this fix works for you.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 first print and mirror for treadmill mouse and t shirt
HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 first concerns. I tried to figure out where the printer setting is for printing in mirror. It is usually in the Advanced Settings tab. I called HP and was told by 2 different tech, then supervisor that HP does not include this option in this printer. I tried to explain how I felt it was hard to believe and I was told that it is most likely was an option that was no longer necessary. I have his name and the file number. I asked this bump up the level immediately above, because I felt strongly HP has not intentionaly left this option. I digress.
Can anyone suggest anything.
Thank you
Joe
Thank you all
Got it to work.
990 has not worked, 5600 had mirror but does not print correctly.
I went to the HP site and downloaded different drivers until I could get to work.
Thanks again

My Dell E510 has a mirror of the main C: drive and D: drive backup I want to reformat. How can I do this? Note: Drive D: 'properties' shows only 18 GB of capacity, but physical drive Specifies a size of 80 GB. What's up with that?
Why are you wish to copy the entire external drive, only the data or files downloaded installation can be transferred to your new PC, the windows folder structure / will be of little use to you and cannot be transferred to your new PC. Niether can clone you your existing installation to your new PC, it won't work.

Analyze the index on the machine of Dataguard and redundancy of ASM disks
Dear friends,
I have two questions regarding disc Dataguard and ASM.
(> > 1) for best performance, periodically, we rebuild the index index and analysis analyze table. What is the best periodic steps to do to get better performance?
I mean, first of all is rebuilding of index, is second index analysis and so on......
(> > 2) if I run analyze the index or the table on my PRODUCTION system he replicated this effect on statndby dataguard automatic system? If so, how it is replicated?
(> > 3) my last question related with high redundancy of the ASM disk. I have some confusion on this area.
Let's say I have 10 disks in a diskgroup '+ DATA' and I did 'HIGH' level redundancy, means 3 way redundancy. Here I know 3-way the redundancy, it writes data on 3 discs at a time. But what of the other 7 discs. In fact, I need to know the mechanism of writing?
-Each disc is identical to the other drive?
-For HIGH redundancy, how many disk failure can be tolerated for any loss of data?
Waiting for your kind reply......
"on my PRODUCTION'---> you mean"on my FIRST.
Yes, the data dictionary is updated when you run dbms_stats.gather% and updates data dictionary are through recovery that applies to the WAITING for more.
NOLOGGING surgery would not be applied to the expectation (the index would be marked corrupted to the standby) unless you have set on FORCELOGGING.

Printing canvas, split images and Mirror of edge for wraparound frame
Hi, someone did he do have knowledge of creating an image in InDesign on say 3 images, so the entire image is visible, then divide the image and on these images of 3 split create a border mirror say 40mm so I can wrap around the edges without losing part of the image.
Here is how you do it:
- Choose file > new > Document.
- In the new Document dialog box:
- Uncheck the facing pages
- Enter the amount of the width/height of a single panel.
- Enter 3 for the number of Pages.
- Enter 0 for the margins.
- Enter an amount of purge of 40mm (corresponding to the border of mirror)
- Click OK.
- In the Pages panel, select Page 1.
- first page, and then deselect allow selected spread to Shuffle.
- Drag the page 2 and 3 next to Page 1, to create a single broadcast of pages.
- Place the image across all three panels, ensure that you start at the left upper guide serving and finish on the bottom guide of good purge.
- Select the image, then select Edition > step and repeat.
- In the dialog step and repeat count to repeat the value 2, and the value Vertical and Horizontal Offset 0.
- Click OK. You get the picture placed 3 times exactly the same situation.
- With the selection tool, click on the left panel to select the image, and then drag the handle to right-middle of the graphic image of the right edge of page 1.
- Click on the Center Panel, and then drag the handle on the left to the left edge of the page 2 and the right handle to the right edge of the page 2.
- Click on the right panel, and then drag the handle on the left and the left edge of the page 3. You are now all perfectly placed images.
- In the Pages panel, click the label of [1-3] under three pages to select them.
- Select allow selected spread to Shuffle in the Pages panel menu.
- Select the image on page 1 and drag the handle to right-middle of the graphic image to the guide of bleeding on the right side of the page
- Select the image on page 2 and drag the handle on the left for the guide of the purge of left side of page 2 and the right handle to the purge of right of page 2 guide.
- Select the picture on page 3 and drag the left handle the purge left of page 3 guide.
And you're done

Difference between ADVM Volume and filesystem ACFS ASM disk group
Q1. What is the difference between an ASM disk group and a Volume of ADVM?
In my opinion, an ASM disk group is actually a logical volume to the database (including the FRA files) files.
11 GR 2 appears to have introduced the notions of volumes ADVM and filesystems ACFS.
11 GR 2 ASM disk group can contain:
- ASM disks
- Volumes ADVM
- Filesystems ACFS
Q2. ADVM volumes appear to be dynamic volumes.
However is it therefore not effectively overlaying a logical volume (the volume ADVM) under ASM disk group (conceptually a logical volume as well)?
Even worse, if you left the ASM disk group redundancy in hardware RAID / SAN level (as recommended Oracle), you actually have 3 layers of logical disk? (ASM on top of ADVM on top of RAID/SAN)?
Q3. If it is 2 layers of logical disk (i.e. on top of ADVM ASM), what makes this better than 2 layers using a 3rd party volume manager (for example the DSO at the top of the 3rd party LVM) - something Oracle encourages against?
Q4. ACFS file systems, seem to be file systems clustered for not including ORACLE_HOMEs database files, application exe etc (but NOT GRID_HOME, OS root, OCR or voting records)
Can you create / modify filesystems ACFS using ASM.
The diagram of topology of oracle for ASM in ASM 11 GR 2 administration guide, says ACF in ASM. I'm not sure about that if ACFS belongs to ASM or ASM is located at the top of the ACF?
Q5. Connected to the 4th quarter. There seems to be a number of different ways, ACFS file systems can be created? Which of this is the valid methods?
- Thanks to ASM?
- through native OS file system creation?
- through OEM?
- through acfsutil?
my head explodes
Any help and clarification appreciated
Jim
Q1 - volume ADVM is a type of special file created at the DG of the DSO. Once created, it creates a block device on the BONE itself which can be used as any other block device. http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E16655_01/server.121/e17612/asmfilesystem.htm#OSTMG30000
Q2 - the asm disk group is a group of disks, not really a logical volume. It combines the attributes of both when it is used for purposes of database as the database and some other applications know how to talk about Protocol 'ASM '. However, you won't find all the versatile applications that can do. In addition, some clients prefer to deal directly with files and devices of volume systems which ADVM is forced to make. In your thinking, you have 3 layers of logical disk, but each of them provides features and different attributes. This is not a bad thing, though, as each has a slightly different purpose - os file system\device, specific database and storage-centric.
Q3 - ADVM is specifically developed to extend the features of the DSO for use by General applications of BONE. It includes the performance of database features and is tuned to work well in this situation. Because it is developed in-house, it benefits from the design of ASM model. In addition, rather than having to communicate with several vendors for support, your support is limited to calling Oracle, a single window.
Q4 - you can create and modify filesystems ACFS by using command line tools and the ASMCA. Creation and modification of logical volumes coming through SQL (ASM), asmcmd and ASMCA. EM can also be used for the two elements. ACFS is located at the top of the ADVM, which is a file in an ASM disk group. ACFS is aware of the characteristics of the ASM\ADVM volumes and tunes it's IO make best use of these features.
Q5 - several ways:
1) connect to ASM with SQL, use 'alter diskgroup add volume' as Mihael points out. This creates an ADVM volume. Then, put in shape volume using the "mkfs" (* nix) or acfsformat (windows).
(2) use ASMCA - a GUI to create volume and a file system. Probably the easiest if your head is explosion.
(3) use "asmcmd" to create a volume and 'mkfs' to put in shape file ACFS system.
Here is information on the ASMCA, with examples:

How to draw a diagonal straight line and mirror copy one half of the two Triangles?
I have a square image. I want to do a straight diagonal line from the top left to the bottom right. That would then leave me with two triangles. I then want to mirror image of the right lower left triangle at the upper triangle. Any way to do it? Thanks much appreciated.
There are still a number of ways to do anything. Here's a simple to do what you want:
1 activate the Polygonal Lasso tool and check the feathers and the settings for anti-aliasing at the top of the main window of Photoshop.
2. click on a corner of the image where the diagonal must begin in the vicinity.
3. click on just outside the other corner. You will now have a diagonal line of the selection in the image.
4 fill the selection by clicking outside of the picture on the side and bottom, and by clicking on the original that you clicked in step 2.
5. you have now a half diagonal of the selected image.
6 Edition - Copy, then Edition - paste. You now have a copy of the diagonal part of the image as a new layer.
7. you can now rotate and/or return this copy diagonal as you want using Edit - Transform - xxxxx.
Note that the image must start on the spot to get a perfect diagonal mirror image.
