Stuck on 0% when reinstalling Windows Vista

I have a Dell Studio 540 (office) and it runs Windows Vista. It doesn't start and has been giving me these weird error as no device detected start and stuff like that. I contacted Dell and they sent me a disk so I can reinstall Windows Vista (and Yes, the drive is geniune). When I turned it on I pressed F12 and pressed to boot from the CD/DVD drive. It is now installing, but he's been stuck on the 'files 0% expansion' for an hour now. Is this normal? If this is not the case, what should I do about it? : The disk I/o is not dirty or anything because I just pulled out of the sealed CD cover

You are in contact with Dell and they look at your problem as related material, I suggest that you continue with their help.

You take my advice and use the free Dell Support Forums, too?

  • I want to reinstall Windows Vista, but I do not have a disk when I bought the laptop; I don't have product key, however; What should I do?

My old laptop is now very slow performance, no doubt because it is hopelessly cluttered with unwanted stuff, viruses etc.. So I have tried various methods of cleaning without success, I decided to reformat (all data on it has been transferred to a new laptop) and start from scratch by reinstalling Windows Vista Home (installed when I bought it). But no installation disc has been delivered, although the product no key. is located on the underside of the laptop. What should I do? I could ring you, but I don't have a land line, and a long call on my cell phone would probably cost a fortune. It would be great if you were ringing me to talk me through the process (07760 101610)

    Hello

Sorry, this is not Microsoft and we don't do phone calls that we are for the most part, Windows users help each other here...

Here are the different ways that you can reinstall Vista.

See which is more easy for you.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

Registry cleaners are so reliable that I wouldn't even recommend them. Registry cleaners are noted for the provision of many "false positives" it makes you wonder if the registry cleaner is saying 'what the devil I know, just delete this and the other and hope everything works eventually.
