Study of virtualization to growing trend

Hello guys.

I need help. I have a project of the University on Econometrics, so I need to develop a model and I chose to study virtualization increasingly in recent years, say from 2005 to 2010. So, I have been searching for information about this, but could not find something good, only a few graphics since the first months of 2005 and a couple of presentation with good things.

Does someone know where to find information on this subject, some statistics from last year, or more than graphics.

Thanks for your help.

You can find some Gartner (and similar) research.

You can also try to contact VMware for some data on it.

  • Undo tablespace continues to grow

    Hello
My undotbs grows to 14g (even if I have my undotbs actul size 9g) I try to resize the data files, but
    This may not work.

So, I guess for this task

    >
-Create a new as undo tablespace:
    SQL > create undo tablespace UNDOTBS2 datafile "< full file path >" size < small >;

    -Change the parameter UNDO_TABLESPACE
    SQL > alter system set UNDO_TABLESPACE = UNDOTBS2;

    -Remove UNDOTBS1
SQL > drop tablespace UNDOTBS1 including content and data files; >

but my question is, is he worthy of delete the undotbs1 whose having a lot of data and if I deleted
These data (undotablespace), I won't be able to completely recover?

There is procedure to drop undo tablespace. If you already increase first then I suggest you to study why his is growing? Check with developers, to monitor the database

  • Is it possible to force Firefox to remember passwords?

As many have complained, there is a growing trend for websites prevent browsers, including Firefox, to remember passwords. It's absolutely maddening. Like most people, I have the order of 100 passwords, and thanks to the idiots, an excess of zeal IT guys who need to justify their own jobs, we are forced to constantly change the ridiculous combinations, impossible to remember symbols and numbers. (Everyone really get their accounts stolen because some hacker sits down and tries to guess their password? Somehow I find it very, very hard to believe.)

First world problems, I know. However, my question is simple: is it possible to force Firefox to remember passwords? Maybe an add-on or an external program any? I know there are programs of password manager, but last time I checked, those who were practically worthless and did not support working as well as the Firefox built-in to remember passwords. Thanks for any help.

Hello Andrew, Yes, you can either install an addon or use a bookmarklet to work around this restriction.

in a next version of firefox, this feature will also be integrated directly in the browser: http://www.ghacks.net/2013/12/24/firefox-29-save-fill-autocompleteoff-passwords/

I'm sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place.  I don't know that you are only used for complaints in this area.

For a change of pace.  I just finished downloading the update from Facebook to my Z10 this morning and was pleasantly surprised to see that I can now display pictures that post people up as responses.  Photos have been a growing trend for conversations and it is nice to have a reason under to shoot to the top of FB on my computer to understand the conversation.

Thanks for the beautiful work that I saw in this app.

I look forward to the day where I can reply to specific comments in a post how my computer will probably just for the work

I agree. It's nice to see some recent updates. Wait until you get OS 10.3.1 pushed to your device. A few features have been added!

  • Virtualized MS SQL Guests, performance, and sizing of opponents

    Hello all,.

Sorry it's long, I just wanted to paint the picture of what is my environment and what questions arise.  If you do not read this, reply and help, THANKS!

I need to comment on everything that you the VMware Pros out there on the execution of MS SQL databases and other applications in VMware ESX 4.  We are a VMware shop for 7 years now, and we have grown and lived several improvements.  I'm a PCV, were about the only administrator of our environment all the time.  I am not however a SQL DBA, so consider myself pretty ignorant when it comes to tuning and work with databases, including MS SQL, but I'm not a total noob.  This creates friction with the suppliers and the app guys pretty constantly.

I go through the usual routine on every two months everything physical with all of our application servers more frequent and from VMware for small servers as print servers.  So far, however, we have always managed to continue to virtualize and grow.  But every day, I get the usual routine of the people app and the types of non-technical on adding MORE CPU and RAM whenever one has the impression of slowness.  Sometimes, they come to me right out of the box and want 8 CPUS and 8 GB of ram on each new server, but 2 weeks after moving into production, I look at the performance numbers and see 5% use cpu and 3 GB of memory consumed.  There are several clubs who dope for a few hours, while a report is run, and if the numbers show have been bottlenecking I'll add resources.  Usually I insists that they start small and try to properly size a box, but it often a case of me vs from the crowd and I am forced to 'give way '.

I have a few allies, but I'm increasingly outnumbered we grew up.  I read manuals and white papers and understand the majority of the documentation there.  I made my own trials and experimentation with different settings and you have a pretty good environment from my point of view.  I saw several very busy servers works amazingly well, that explains why we continue to stay virtual.  However, I have seen times where the environment does not play as well as I expect and there is always room for improvement.  I feel this overpopulation and with allowance contribute in a number of cases.

I have 3 blade environments, but in this case I will reduce it to 2 of the hosts and give a quick overview of what we are running.

The first is a picture of blade HP c3000 with 8 bl460 they are dual quad core boxes intel, with 32G RAM, connections FC 4 G and 1 G Ethernet.

The second is an array of HP with 4 bl680c c7000 blade they are six quad core boxes intel with connections of CF 40 G RAM 8 G and 10 G Ethernet to each.

My SAN is a compellent, its got about 64 disks, in the 4 speakers (shelves of disks) 1/2 are CF disks as low is SATA.  Evaluation tests show flow depends on factors of the configuration of the machine virtual, but in general, 150 - 200 MB/s, so I have flow test and I can get IOPS / s about 3000-4000 or more when my settings are suitable for PAHO es / s.  Some tools report different, so there is always a margin for manoeuvre.

Add us new c7000 knives so I just started to migrate, but before the upgrade, I had on the boxes of 8 x 8way 113vms, 275 GB of RAM, distribution, and allocated 260 of vcpu.  With 256 physical RAM G, we used the 275G, not a too terrible of a stipend, however I had to plead to upgrade of physical of 192 ram when ballooning began to cause me misery.  However, I think having 64 physical CPU and allocate virtual CPU 260 seems a little strong but the values overall ready and fresh total CPU overhead of the army are not too bad, but we occaisonal spikes.

Now for the moment "get to the point" I once again was faced with the mantra "we cannot virtualize MS SQL.  I agree that the physical servers run faster when you perform evaluation tests.  In particular, Direct Attached Storage.  However, we officially run several databases on vm and some on physical boxes, and Yes, both have performance problems.  I made several assessment tests, myself and even have developed a few tricks that can make my SAN smoking with performance, if I sacrifice a small fault tolerance in the setup of the hard.  What I do have are a ton of virtualization MS SQL experience to go with it.  Again, I saw several boxes of db work fine and work to the satisfaction of users and administrators.  The problem often resolves around the question «when to go» physical

Several types of dba and app vendors of times have all at one time or another wailed that virtualization has been the cause of the problem.  Only after a few painful weeks/months to go back jump through hoops (and "give in" to an increase in resources in the face of irrational) try to prove to them that I have given enough resources and performance was tolerable limits, they do dig and find that their problem was a configuration problem lame.  It HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES and is quite frustrating!

I would like some comments and experiences of those who have the knowledge to direct me to the answers that I have to myself with arms when these questions arise again and again.  I searched a few good doc and white papers for the execution of the db on VMware, the calibration of the volumes, number of CPU, RAM considerations, Ops ARE / s and flow but never really happened upward with the news of the real world.

Thanks again for your comments and for reading this novel!

    Good mug shot!

SQL is a difficult to virtualize, load but it is possible, don't forget you can have big, animated virtual computer in your environment, but it will affect the ratio of grouping.

Even if you get 2 boxes SQL occupied on a slide, even when taking into account the addition of VMware license cost, it can still work cheaper.

Storage plan as it was physical - do not use of RDM, but you don't want to make use of the additional vSCSI adapters and with a low number of VM data warehouses and the correct RAID type for the data (so separate volumes for OS/data/logs/Tempdb/Backup)

Adobe Application Manager inside the Illustrator said that all products are up to date. "Updates" in Photoshop under the Help menu is grayed out. • HP Elite x 2 1011 G1 L5G47EA: HP Elite x 2 1011 G1 UEFI and virtualization

    Hi *.

I have situation as follows. More then a week ago I had my HP Elite x 2 1011 G1 tablet with a keyboard of HP and Windows Pro 8.1 power on board.  I like more a Windows 10 Pro so I purchased a single license and installed.

Looks like I had to fast and I forgot to create a copy of recovery of Windows Pro 8.1. Later I discovered that although I have a W8.1 USB recovery partition EFI of W10 upgrades so that the W8.1 copy is not accepted in the future. However for me it is not a main issue.

One of the main reasons why I bought this set is Intel® Core™ processor M-5Y51, which supports Intel® (VT - x and VT - d) virtualization technology. I need it for my study, work and research. However, there is a problem. I need to activate it in the UEFI/BIOS. When I press ESC and F10 later, I need to sign in with the Windows credentials. It worked like a charm with no problems. Finally, I go to the Advanced tab in the top menu. I see options, but they are gray and I can't select required options.

Why? How it is possible to solve? Thank you.

    Looks like I have this:

  • Virtualization or non-virtualisation

    Hi all.

It takes to install databases 2 (10.2.0.1 and 10.2.0.5): Test and production. The two OLTP and not more than 200 Gb each. Obviusly Prod environment will be configured in the newspaper archive and test in noarchive log.

But we have a doubt about it:

-We have a server with the following resources:

    • 16 GB of RAM
    • Xeon processor clocked at 2.66 GHZ Quad Core
    • 500 GB of storage.

In order to obtain more reliable configuration which option do you recommend?

    1. Installation of Solaris 10 OS, then install the Oracle software and the 2 databases. or
    2. Install the operating system Solaris 10, virtualization software, create two virtual machines, two installations of oracle SW and finally each database in each virtual machine?

I would get a configuration where the execution of production environment cannot be affected by the test environment.

    What do you think??

Thank you very much for your answers.

I'm not a fan of running test and production databases on the same physical server in the first place...

If your main objective is to minimize the impact of the database of test on the production database, two virtual machines are likely to be the way to go.  This assumes that you will to allocate fixed amounts of RAM and CPU to each virtual machine rather than allowing virtual machines to grow and shrink as demand changes.  Helps to isolate the load test prod.  But it has the disadvantage that when the test is in standby, prod won't be able to use, say, half of the physical resources on the server.  If you allow prod grasp more resources during the test is idle, which tends to lead to a better use of the available material, production performance will be necessarily affected negatively when someone starts running queries on the test.  You can try to balance the trade-offs by, say, leaving prod have at least half of the resources and increase to 3/4 of the resources and let test have at least a quarter of the resources and grow to half of the resources.

Of course, even with two virtual machines that have fixed sizes, it is still possible for test to assign prod.  If you have a lot of running in the test queries that use a ton of bandwidth for I/O, for example, you go to the impact of the e/s available bandwidth for the prod database.

  • Trend ServerProtect Real Time Scan kills Performance

I've just virtualized a Windows 2003/Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 server on a host of vSphere with a NetApp FAS2020 using NAS as the data store where the virtual machine is stored.  There is no other guests of the VM on the host for the moment and the NetApp is not still used for other purposes (i.e. nothing should be taxing the material).  I found that ServerProtect V5.58 time real scan running on the Citrix server limits the CPU at a constant 100% once about 8 users are connected.  If I disable the real-time scanning, everything goes back to normal.

Clearly, I must be able to protect users from malicious software Citrix sessions.  What is the best way to achieve this with Citrix/Terminal Server VMware?

Someone at - it a version more recent ServerProtect or even OfficeScan running successfully within Citrix/Terminal Services hosted on VMware?

    Thank you

    D.

    Hello

    Moved to the Security Forum.

Reinstall the trend after a P2V could help but maybe not.

Trend also made programs specifically for virtualization and vSphere that will do A / V of the analyses using the API that will not also drastically affect performance vStorage, it's something to look into. Maybe but not 'real time' will allow better overall analysis.

  • Win 7 host dies when the virtualization mode is turned on

    Hello

My Win 7 Prof x 64 going nuts when I install VMware Player 3.0.0 - 203739 (VMP) AND activate the virtualization mode in the BIOS. By going nuts, I mean it seems to start correctly and asks me to sign in but then can't I login my password or fingerprint reader: he seems to accept the credentials, but then the login page stays there forever (but I can press the power button and then it stops with proper gratitude with the screen messages or I can still pass the keyboard with alt-shift mapping (, but not ask for password or any useful interaction). I have not found any solution besides a system restore (to a point before the installation of VMP) so that I can connect to the computer again. Even if I turn off virtualization in the BIOS, it is too late, I do the system restore, or I will never go to my office. At least, the system restore works reliably (I had to do a couple of times while experimentation).

The strange thing is that I have absolutely nothing like that if I use VMP without virtualization. Never I have a problem when I turn on the virtualization mode in the BIOS while VMP is not installed. It doesn't matter that I have install VMP with or without virtualization mode: when I reboot when both of them are there, it's over.

A strange thing that I observed during the restoration of the system is an update "critical" appears also in the list of programs to be affected by restoring the system (and it gets returned when restoring). I think he has to do something with my problem since this update does not appear when I install and run VMP without virtualization. And this update not presents itself, that is, when I went on the virtualization mode when VMP has not been installed. Unfortunately, I have not studied this "critical" update further (because it appears as if I can not connect - but so important in order to solve this problem, I might try mode windows safe).

All this runs on a laptop HP 8530w, with Win7Pro and the HP drivers by myself. I have not discovered any other malfunction. As the guest operating system, I installed 32 bit Ubuntu (it worked very well, contacted the host, consulted the USB ports, etc.), and it was when I tried to install the 64-bit version that VMP was asked to turn on virtualization (as it is disabled in the BIOS by default). Of course, I don't think that the guest OS has nothing to do with this problem because it doesn't not even begin.

    I can't live without virtualization / x 64 but I don't like these mysteries...

    Similar observations? Or ideas?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion,

    KÖKAR

ISO has never reported the following?

CPU : feature MSR control is unlocked!

If this isn't the case, then activating/deactivating VT in the BIOS has no effect on what the VMware driver done at startup.

Looks like your BIOS behaves exactly as expected to with regard to empowerment VT.  Curiously, however, your vmware.log file shows that it contains the definition a little reserved in the feature control MSR, and I can't even guess what that's done.  Still, I have to wonder if the appearance of VT for this failure is a red herring.  There has been some fatal interactions with ProtectTools in the past, and maybe it's just a new manifestation of old problems.

    You can try this:

    1. enable VT in the BIOS.

    2 install the player.

    3. restart in Safe Mode.

    4. under Control Panel-> administration-> Services tools, change VMware authorization Service AutoStart for delayed start.

    5 reset.

    Thank you!
