Submit any comments ESXi host data store

Hi all

I installed ESXi on HP DL 380 G6 with HDD 6 total. I created the first 2HDD using Raid1 (138 GB total) and the rest 4HDD use Raid5 (total 800 GB size). When you have finished install ESXi, I can see the two storage under the ESXi data store. My question is how can I present the entire 800 GB disk for computer to newly created guest (Win2K8 R2)? When I add as the new drive of the guest computer, it only allowed me to create 200 + GB virtual disk of size only.

That will be great if anyone can suggest me and guide me.

Welcome to the community,

When you create a data store, you can choose the size of block for her. The maximum size of the files to a virtual drive depends on the size of this block. For the limits of the size of the different blocks, see for example http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1012384. In your case, to create a ramdisk of 800 GB you must select a block size of at least 4 MB. The block size cannot be changed, so that you must delete and re-create the data store. ATTENTION: This will destroy all data on this data store!

  • Error adding of esxi host data store

    storageadderror.PNG

I am facing a problem while adding the new data store to the host. Here is the error message I get. I tried to re-scan storage adapters, detach and attach with the storage team storage path has also checked and everything looks good at the end of storage. Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions" for object "datastoreSystem-2015692"on vCenter Server "vcenter server name" does not have anyone encountered similar problem?"

Thanks for all your contributions! I worked with the storage team to delete and recreate a LUN. And after that, the issue has been resolved. Thank you!

  • Detach the corrupt empty VMFS datastore hosts (data store is an iSCSI LUN)

Sorry people - can't all in fact it nails with a Google.

I have a corrupted (size beyond 2 TB by accident) data store. Migrate all hosts out there - she is empty.

As it is corrupt, it does not in the normal way.

Now I CAN just tear out of the EqualLogic SAN - but I don't want to confuse ESXi.

Can someone tell me how "friendly but firm" about ESXi to let go of it before I delete it the San?

    Thanks many many - Tim

Like a little help, I have denied access of a host to the LUN and restarted mode maint.

It is not in the view hosts of storage thereafter.

If I repeat, it erases it completely from vCenter?

  • ESX 3.5: copy files using the service console from a network share to the esx host data store

    Hello

I wonder. Is there a command that I can run the service console that would allow me to copy a file from a network share on the data store on the esx host?

    Eric

If sharing is a Windows, you can also use smbclient within the service console and ride sharing.

  • Import my own device from the host data store

This is my first post so Hello all who read this.

I am currently runing ESX 3.5i directly on the hardware of a test done home server (tests, the fonstionality before rolling it into production) here is my problem

I could create and install an a virtual machine (windows 2K 3 R2 server) and once all the basic configuration were made I exported the virtual machine as a unit. now, the comand export will only export file on the computer of gest. I was able to download the 2 files (hard and .ovf) on the host's data center. Now, I would like to deploy a new instance of the VM on the server. But when I drop & gt; virtual appliance & gt; I have only the option import from the hard drive of gest. I want to do it directly from the data store, so I did not download the file whenever I ride on a new virtual machine.

Just a note I will administer the trought host VPN exclusively in production so it'll take fo never download the entire server every time.

I hope that I was clear enough, if not feel free to ask questions.

    Thank you!

    Edit: spelling mistake little

    Hello

So if I get this right I would create a virtual (windows XP for example) machine i would be VPN on this machine open a remote destop window there and then open the VMware console in this environment and then use it to make my new server deployment. Did I get it all?

That is right. The reason is mainly the latency. You will not have much and if the VPN interrupts the action you take also WITHOUT giving up and continue until you reconnect.

Can you tell me if there is a more easier way to do it?

    It's the simplest way.

  • Better use of disk space on the server esxi (for data store)

I have a HP Proliant DL380G6 which currently has 2 146 GB hard drives in a Raid0 configuration.  We quickly realize that this is not enough space for all of the virtual machine, we have running.

Is there a way of 'clean' to add disks to this server - by this I want to say one where we don't have to add readers, and then reconfigure the raid5 raid card, and reinstall...

And on a related issue (even if it may seem irrelevant):

Some of our virtual machines are currently on a mounted NFS datastore that I want to spend in the local data store.  One of them has quite a few clichés that take up a lot of space.  What is the CORRECT way to migrate the virtual machine to the other local datastore, get rid of all snapshots (maintenance of the VM in its current state)?

Believe it or not. . Just select Remove all.

You are here is not a cliché. . It's your current state and not be deleted unless you select "go to" (note the different icon)

(even if I understand your concern)

If you are really nervous and wants to prove it to yourself, just test it on a virtual machine with no snapshots (create a snapshot, add a file, delete the snapshots and see if the files still exists)

  • Cannot add host to vCenter server as data store is shared with an existing host to vCenter

Recently, I removed a physical host to a virtual appliance of vCenter Server and am not able to add it to vCenter Server because I get an error message on the existing data store.  I run a simple server vCenter environment with two physical hosts and shared storage.  I've only been administering vCenter for a few months, so I'm relatively new on the technology and processes.  I searched the Internet for a few days now, but have not found documentation everyone has the same problem I have (which I find strange considering the simplicity my problem and configuration), so I tried to get help from the community of VMware.

I received an error message a day this vCenter Server cannot connect to either of the two hosts so I removed the host (rather than disconnect and plug as I should have done).  Now, I am not able to connect to the host to vCenter server because the shared storage data store comes into conflict with the same data store used by the host in vCenter Server.  I get the error message is ' "Datastore"datastore_name"is in conflict with a store of data that exists in the data center which has the same URL (ds: / / / vmfs/volumes/UUID /), but is supported by different physical storage." "  I try to remove the host data store, but get the following error message: "resource" data store name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: UUID' is in use. ".  The error stack said: "'HostStorageSystem.UnmountVmfsVolume' call failed for object 'storage system' on ESXi"IP address"."  Cannot unmount volume ' data store name: datastore_name VMFS uuid: 'UUID' because the file system is busy. Correct the problem and retry the operation. "I tried to delete all virtual machines of the inventory, put the hosts in maintenance mode, restart physical hosts, but none of my troubleshooting contributes.

I don't know what steps to take to get this data store driving with the host so that I can add it in vCenter Server.  You can provide me with any help is appreciated.

Good thing you already moved the VMs on.  For what is 'disconnect', 'remove' or 'delete' might work anyway.  You should maybe put the host in maintenance mode or even reboot the host before you can remove data warehouses.  In an extreme case, I even had to remove the host and the hypervisor installed completely rebuild on the spot.  It is not that difficult or does not take long to reinstall, so be not afraid on this subject.  A clean reinstall could still save time compared to the deletion of data warehouses.

  • A comment system data store access

    Hello community,

I'm new here and this is my first question.

I used the search function but can not find any useful entry for my question, maybe I did not use the right search term.

    The system configuration:

    ESXi 3.5 u3 123629

    Dell Precision 690

    Intel 3.0 Ghz DC

    12 GB OF RAM

    3 x 147 GB SAS

    Installation:

Setup disk 1 x 147 GB SAS ESXi

    1 x 300 GB SAS Datastore

    2 networks:

-Network VM / default to manage and so on.

-Testlab not access a physical network

    Question:

How can I access the data of a comments system store?

I have download a Service Pack for the upload of und system of comments for the data store.

Now I want to download it on the commenting system, but I don't know how to access the data of the guest system store.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

You may install VMware Infrastructure Client in your guest and use the browser data store to get the file.

    Good luck!

  • Show active paths by the data store for each host

I'm looking for a PowerCLI script that displays by cluster, by ESXi host how active paths has a data store. The output should look like:

Paths of Active host data store

    VMFS-01 ESXi01 2

    Thank you

    Ivo

Try this one, it shows the actual number of "active" paths by the data store.

    foreach($esx in Get-VMHost){ $hss = Get-View $esx.Extensiondata.ConfigManager.StorageSystem

      $lunTab = @{} $hss.StorageDeviceInfo.ScsiLun | %{ $lunTab.Add($_.Key,$_.CanonicalName) } $pathTab = @{} $hss.StorageDeviceInfo.MultipathInfo.Lun | %{ $pathState = @($_.Path | Group-Object -Property PathState | where {$_.Name -eq "active"} | Select -ExpandProperty Group)

        if($pathTab.ContainsKey($_.Lun)){      $pathTab[$_.Lun] += $pathState.Count    }    else{      $pathTab.Add($lunTab[$_.Lun],$pathState.Count)    }  }

      foreach($mount in ($hss.FileSystemVolumeInfo.MountInfo | where {$_.Volume.Type -eq "VMFS"})){    $mount.Volume.Extent |    Select @{N="VMHost";E={$esx.Name}},      @{N="Datastore";E={$mount.Volume.Name}},      @{N="LUN";E={$_.DiskName}},      @{N="Active Paths";E={$pathTab[$_.DiskName]}}  } }

  • Cannot delete the local data store empty on ESXi 4

    Hi all

Does anyone know how to kill the process that uses / block the process of removing the ESXi 4 data store?

I have this provblem in VI Client when I was in the middle of the removal of the Local data store

    Remove datastore

The resources ESXi02_VMFS vim.host.DatastoreSystem is in use.

It's production live environment so is possible to kill the process without having to restart the ESXi 4 crowd?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

OK so first try to connect with viclient to ESXi directly and see if you can remove the data store.

The command you need to nod your head do buisness hours.

    Good luck!

  • V2V conversion with no space on the data store.

    Hi all -

I need to resize/shrink a disc of comments (disc Win2008r2 800 GB to 300 GB) and I read that there is some reasonable success using a conversion, v2v (with vCenter Standalone Converter), but my concern is that I have only 50 GB free on the host data store.

I would be able to download and drop the virtual machine folder and files on my local machine and convert from my local to the esxi host?  If not, what other options are there?

    Thanks in advance

    -michael ~.

Yes, you can use the VMware Converter to convert the machine virtual VMware Workstation/Player format and save the files on your PC.

Once this is done, then run the converter again choose VMware Workstation/Player as source and your virtual infrastructure as your destination.

However, if the new virtual machine is over 50 GB in size, you can have a space problem.  You can, on the last page of the VMware converter during the movement of the virtual dos machine to your vSphere host, make sure that the disc is set to THIN provision...

    Good luck!

  • Connect 2 ESXi hosts to array SAS MD3220

I have two R620s who go to the server as a host for the VM for several web servers (in a Windows NETWORK load balancing) and two other R620s which will be considered as physical database servers (in a Failover Cluster) and have to apply to a single Bay MD3220 SAS. The DB cluster will host the databases shared on a virtual disk and a data store shared on another virtual drive on the Bay. ESXi hosts will store their vmx/vmdk files elsewhere on the Board.

I'm still waiting for delivery of the second DB server, but in the meantime, I installed the first and he speaks with success to the table - I run MDSM on that server and the server is successfully connected to DB and filestore volumes. guess I'm having a little problem with the second server.

I installed ESXi on both VM hosts. I guess the next step is to save in MDSM, but MDSM is not automatically host port identifiers as assigned. Does?

My next guess would be to identify manually port host identifiers, but how can I determine what are their respective IDs? I couldn't see anything obvious in the BIOS.

I have currently two independent hosts to VM with ESXi installed v5.1 - I have not created a VM vCenter again because the host does not have access to the storage Bay (!), so I can pair together for HA hosts, etc. As a broader question, given what I want to achieve, how should I be going to this topic?

Indeed, you will need to register the VMware hosts in MDSM yourself. There is no agent to have a VMware host register automatically on the SAN (at the regular difference in Windows and linux).

You may be able to find the WWN of the HBA SAS in the SAS controller bios.

The only other way I know not to register the correct WWN with the server is intrusive, but not so hard:

-Stop your Windows (cluster SQL) servers

    -Stop the VMware servers

    -power of the MD3220 downwards

    -power up the MD3220

-power up to one of the servers Windows (one that has MDSM on it)

-power up the VMware Server 1

In MDSM, you can now save this first VMware Server.

Turn on the other 2 servers and register the 2nd VMware Server.

I found that only shutting down 1 VMware server is not erase the memory of the MD whose WWNS are connected and there is no way to find which ports you enter the WWN in question.

  • Troubleshooting a NFS data store

A vSphere 5.5 uses a database hosted by a NAS server and store accessible via NFS.

    It has always worked well.

Now I see that some folders and files on the data store is not accessible, with messages like:

    Move the virtual machine

    < vm_name >

    Was able to complete the network file copy / /vmfs/volumes/e4e525a8-acdae200 / < vm_name > / < vm_name > hard

Copy of the files of virtual machines

    or:

    Copy the file

    Data store < datastore_name >

    Unable to access file [Datastore < datastore_name >] < folder_name > / < Filename > .iso

I rebooted the NAS, the hosting data store and forced a file check, but I don't see any change.

Other files on the NAS even are accessible via CIFS and can be read and written without any problems.

How to detect my NFS datastore issues and, if possible, to solve?

Can what tools I use to check and recover the NFS datastore?

    Concerning

    Marius

    Hello

is it possible that something has changed in the NFS export? What solution do you use for storage? You can browse the files/folders you want to access from the storage itself?

  • Ghost in a data store VMs

    Hello;

I need to remove a database on my ESXi 5.5 HA/DRS cluster due to storage issues.

VCenter watch 3 VMs running in the data store but it is not a correct information. Vcenter also shows that space 0 B used for each virtual computer. So vcenter won't let me not disassemble the data store. When I look at the parameters of each virtual computer, these virtual machines running in a different data store.

When I try svmotion, it says completed successfully but VMs are still stuck in the data store.

Can I turn off all 3 VMs, remove/remove datastore and turn on those virtual machines, but I find that it is so risky. Because these virtual machines are essential and hundreds of GB.

How can I remove the data safely store?

    Thanks and greetings

    Tirelibirefe

First of all, check if one of those VMS have any ISO mounted this data store... and even if it there is no ISO standard not mounted, check if there is place of the snapshot on the virtual machines and delete them, cause maybe the ISO was mounted when the snapshot was taken.
