In some cases, leave Safe Mode and starting Firefox regularly works automatically (like blow off the dust).
But more often one of your extensions must be updated or disabled in order to recover the missing functionality. Understand what extension sometimes take a bit of work.
Try first, extension update. You can do this on the page modules. Either:
- Command + shift + a
- "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side, find the "gear" button and use the check for updates.
You can also use this page to disable extensions that could be the culprit, or click in their dialog boxes Options (if available) to see if there is a setting for this.
A little luck?

On my homepage, I have upward and I want to open a new tab. When I click to open a new tab, nothing happens. How can this be repaired?
Hello lsmalls787, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables certain parameters, disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:
- In Firefox 29,0 and above, click on the menu button
click Help
then select restart with disabled modules.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.
When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. This might help others with the same problem.
Thank you

On Windows7 Home Premium Edition, I can't get a new tab to open no matter what I try. Occasionally, if I click on a link on the current page, a second tab opens, but 99% of the time I'm stuck using the first tab for everything and using the back button. I tried ctrl/T, tab file/new, right mouse click / New tab and the new button tab in the tab to the right of the current tab bar.

When I click on the sign more to open a tab, and even when I go to 'File' and then 'New tab' nothing happens. The only way I can get a new tab to open is by right-clicking on a link. I tried to close and restart the browser and even restart my computer. Nothing helps. Firefox did an update this morning, would it be a problem of who?

New tab does not work - could not open a new tab
I can not open a new tab, using OSX 10.9.4 and 31.0 Firefox. I tried the '+' and the key combination. Thank you-
Many users have discovered that this problem (in Firefox 30 and more) is caused by led modules, for example a plugin Conduit and/or an extension "Community Toolbar.
You can check and disable the extensions on page modules. Either:
- Command + shift + a
- "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, when in doubt, turn off.
Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.
What helps with the button "+"? If so, you can name the specific extension that caused the problem?
You can also see the Plugins page modules. You can never use 'activate' to disable plugins that you do not usually use.

I can not open a new window of google search. (on linux ubuntu 12.04)
I can not open a new tab in google's search results... IM usin linux ubuntu 12.04, if someone can help?
Have you tried middle, click on the link on the page of Google results?
If you left click then you will need to check the Google search parameter through the gear on the results page icon.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance/themes).
- Makes no changes on the start safe mode window.

Could not open a new tab should get a link and open it in a new tab.
I can not open a new tab, or by clicking on the button in the toolbar, go to the file/open new tab or CTRL T. I think that this has happened after I've upgraded to the latest version of Firefox. The only way I can get a new tab is to click on a bookmark or a link, right click and select open in a new tab. Very frustrating.
