Surveillance equipment (UPS, PowerEdge, etc.) in ESXi 4?

Hello

How can I control the host hardware in ESXi 4?

I need at least RAID failures and UPS power interruptions.

Perfect would be a solution in a machine virtual who's watching material, sends e-mails and the failure to suspend all virtual machines and stop the host.

I found numerous threads on UPS, but they are much much.

I miss the sticky threads or FAQ?

Greetings

Carsten

Sorry through on-the-wire.

ESXi has no support out-the-box UPS, and you can't really use USB or series.  However, you can add a network card to your Smart UPS and then use APC freely downloadable PowerChute Network Shutdown in a prompt or anywhere else.

  • Dell Poweredge 2850 and ESXi 4.1

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2850 with 12 GB of RAM and two CPUs, hyperthreading with 350 GB of disk space.

This box was initially installed with Redhat Linux ES 5.4 64-bit and OS 64 bit CentOS 5.5 with no problems, so I know the processor supports 64-bit.

I then installed VMWare ESXi version 4.1 on the Dell Poweredge 2850 with no problems.

Then, I created a few instances VM I want to install CentOS 5.5 64 bit.  During the installation of a VMware instance, I get this:

msg.cpuid.notLongmodeQuestionFmt:This veritual is configured for 64-bit operating systems.
However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.
Longmode is disabled for this virtual machine.
    For more information, see http://VMware.com/info?id=152
    Continue without 64 bit support?

Now the question I have is this: given that VMWare is problems with 64-bit OSes comments, how is it that I can install CentOS 5.5 64 bit on this Dell PowerEdge 2850 with no problems.  It seems obvious to me that the PowerEdge 2850 works well with the 64 bit OS but not ESXi 4.1.

How can I get around this?

    Comments?  Thanks in advance.

The dell series 8 (1850/2850) have no vt support, so not support 64-bit virtual machine, except 6850.

The output of the processor shows the same thing, or rather, what he shows no vt in its ability.  It shows lm, long mode, so you can run 64-bit, that you are running ESX, but to succeed in this 64-bit support, you need the lm, you and vt, which you don't have.

  • Dell PowerEdge T610 and ESXi 4.0 integrated

    Hello world

My company has just purchased a new Dell PowerEdge T610 as our first server VM. They bought exactly the same configuration that Dell recommended for virtualization, which came with an option to get the ESXi 4.0 embedded. By charging Dell about $ 2000 for the premium service when buying the ESXi, society has decided that we will install ESXi embedded ourselves (on a SD card or USB key).

And so the task was given to me

Now, here's the problem I encounter. I downloaded the ESXi 4.0 installable with customization of Dell, and it seems to work fine on a USB key. But I can't find the instructions on how to actually install the embedded and non ESXi 4.0 installable version. I have ESXi 4.0 installable on the stick, but how do I get the embedded installed on it (or SD card). I see that people have done with ESXi 3.5, but all it seems to be there on the net about installing ESXi embedded yourself is only how to install the installable on the USB. It's a stupid, and built-in question is nothing more then a installable on a USB?

    Sorry for a newbie question...

Thank you very much in advance!

    André

integrated, installable should be the same, the difference is that with the integrated option you would not need to install

  • Dell Poweredge r.620 ESXi custom 5.5

    Hello

As we intend to deploy the customized version of ESXi 5.5, I would like to know if it's the most recent:

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/in/en/19/driverdetails?DriverID=20VNP

    Thank you!

If you compare the checksums indicating by Dell for these two files, you can see that they match. This means that they are the exact same download/file.

The Dell custom ESXi A01 ISO 5.5 is the latest I know.

  • Low level of surveillance equipment

    People:

We are currently assessing the implementation of Hyperic in a Solaris installation and would like to know the posibility to address a major concern (with Hyperic): HW monitoring. The client does not like Sun Management Center (a solar product that keeps a pretty poor track), BUT it provides good detailed HW 'low level' monitoring (fans, power supply voltage levels, status of hard drives, etc.).

With Hyperic I know you can monitor CPU / memory / process, but I need to know if it is possible to have access to this information somehow (the simpler the better) using Hyperic? Is - configurable in the agent?

    Concerning

    Arturo

    There's also this (for x 64 boxes)-> http://support.hyperic.com/confluence/display/hypcomm/Sun+X64+Systems
(uses snmp to show time and the status of fan, can take some customization)

Prtdiag is a very good way to check anything on the motherboard, and it is now on x 64 solaris 10 (I think u2 and above).  Unfortunately, it may be btwn very different versions / platforms / revisions of patch, but the exit status is consistent which is nice.

Here are the docs to create a plugin script->

    http://support.Hyperic.com/Confluence/display/doc/script+plugin

For solaris monitoring in general, monitoring prtdiag and ADM are essential.  I think that most (if not all) disk failures are captured in ADM.  You can also monitor your disk suite (SVM, Veritas, ZFS, etc...)

  • Dell OpenManage, ESXi 5.1 & reconstruction of bays RAID online

I am owner of a Dell PowerEdge T420 with ESXi 5.1 installed and I was wondering if it is possible to rebuild a RAID array without having to restart the server.

I was under the assumption that the use of Dell OpenManage running on Windows Server together with the Dell OMSA VIB would allow management of virtual disks when the system is online.

I am able to see the State of health of the RAID via OpenManage arrays, but can't seem to perform management of tables.

I was mistaken in that assumption?

    Jmartincic,

You can simply reinstall the failed drive to start a regeneration. In the OMSA with ESXi graphical user interface, it's only a tool of surveillance. You cannot trigger something from him, although only with regard to the controller.

  • Permissions to connect to esxi with perl sdk

I tried the user scripts perl for surveillance. I have 1 Server ESXi 5.1 I can connect to directly and the script has no problem connecting.

I have another 3 esxi servers which are connected to a server for vsphere.

On the same server, I can connect directly to the server esxi with vsphere client no problem.

On the vsphere server, I can only connect to the server for vsphere, I can't connect directly to the esxi hosts. (http, https, ssh, etc...)

I think it's the issue that I have with the sdk for perl. I have a SSO connection that I can user to connect to the server for vsphere, but these permissions will not get access to the esxi host.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    Thank you

I'm really not sure about the writing of scripts and other things, but if you need to create local users in ESXi host, you must connect to the host directly and then go to the tab of local users and groups and create users.

  • ESXi 4 - move the virtual machine to different hardware

Hello everyone, I'm new to VMWare. I was wondering if I say ESXi 4 running on a Dell poweredge 2800 dual processor with 2 VM I could take these virtual machines and move them (the moving process no matter as long as it is possible) a dual processor Dell Poweredge 2950 with different RAID card, RAM, CPU, etc, and ESXi 4 is also installed, etc. it would work?

    Thank you!

Like you, I'm pretty new to VMWare. That being said, I have 2 servers ESXi right now, and I moved the computer virtual from one to the other without problem. I vSphere Essentials, and it was very easy to ' cold migrate "a virtual machine from one server to the other. The host of the virtual machine (white non-liste) origin is simply a HP dc7900 PC with a quad-core processor and 8 GB of RAM. The new host of the virtual machine is a Dell 2850 (non-whtelisted) with 2 processors duo-core and 8 GB RAM. The virtual machine has been the guest of 32-bit OS (Windows XP), while she had no problem. I can't move my Windows Server 2008 VM for your Dell printer, because it does not support 64-bit for the guest operating system (the processors are not compatible VT).

The only thing that will happen is that Windows (XP, in this caes) will have to go through the process of Validation WIndows again, because there are some major hardware changes, as seen by the operating system. Not a big deal, just soemthing to consider. I also had to re - check my Adobe products on this virtual computer, as I did not have the unvalidate on the virtual machine before moving on to the virtual machine. Adobe also thought that it was a whole new PC, so I had to call & make them validate the installation manually.

  • ESXi embedded, cannot start the new virtual machine

We have installed just a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with ESXi embedded.  That part went well.  I am able to connect through the client.  I can create a new virtual machine.  That's where I met problems.  No matter what I tried the machine does not start.  I ' v tried the host device as CDROM, the device as CDROM, and even customer created ISO W2003 CD and downloaded.  I can't understand why he won't start.   Whenever he tried to boot from the network or when he fails he just says "operating system not found" and stays like that.  I started in the bios of the virtual machine and made sure the startup options are correct, etc.  I'm lost.

I read this forum for like a day and while I see some who have had similar problems, I have not seen this precise question or a question with an answer that applies to my question.  It could be the pre holiday drink

    I hope someone can advise.

    Thank you

Take a look at this post and try the instructions to boot from an ISO on the side of client - http://communities.vmware.com/message/1106573#1106573.

  • PowerEdge R230 fans speed & do not respond

    Hi all

I have a new server with a weird behavior, which I'm not sure.

Once we started the server, the fan speed is high then seattled to about 8000 RPM. Is this normal for R230 fan at its idle speed?

We tried to install VMWare ESXi, but server will no response. We also tried installing normal Windows 7 as a test if it's a server problem or problem installing ESXi USB, same no response to the initial installation screen.

  • Upgrade from 5.1 to 5.5 - DELL Incompatible ISO custom ESXi

    Hello

When attempting to upgrade a DELL PowerEdge server running ESXi 5.1 to 5.5, Manager of update of the 'Inconsistent' due to Broadcom VIB reports.

Please find attached the screenshot.  It seems that the existing 5.1 ESXi host is already launched VIB even as in ISO image to measure.

    Thank you

You can also choose to migrate by force and it will run the installation.  I think after that he will keep the existing VIBs that are installed, but I have not tested on.

Using the option migrate from Force could cause the host improved to not start successfully, to expose the system instability or lose functionality. If you upgrade a host support custom VIBs 5.0.x, which are not included in the ESXi ISO Installer are migrated. There is no need to select the option migrate by Force. See upgrading of the hosts that have third-party custom VIBs.

  • VMWare APC UPS Network Shutdown

    Hi guys

We install a HP VMware Server with server running two VM 2012. We have an APC smart UPS with network card and I would like to know how we can configure the APC software at the first stop each VM correctly, then the physical server.

    Thank you

Never tried it myself, but I guess it doesn't. I remember a few scripted, the use of PuTTY/plink solution, but can not find the page now. Maybe it helps: No Joke IT: stop the VMS invited ESXi 5.1 and the host (free edition) via SSH - the simple way!

  • Add physical disk to disk attached in ESXi virtual machine

    Hi friends,

I would have attached physical disk to the virtual machine, I explain:

I have a freenas VM create in ESXi 5.5 but I want to add a new hard drive, this hard drive is a physical, fixed equipment in my 5.5 ESXi, possible? If Yes, how?

After I want to mount iSCSI in freenas and I'll make backups

  • Correct sequence of running the ESXI storage

After the power failure, the power is restored and all the equipment is turned on but esxi 4 boxes not automatically rescan for storage so vm do not return to the top.

If storage is not available at the time where the boots of ESXi, you will need to manually analyze again after that storage is up and running again.
