  In response to 1, I found that I have didn't need an external CD/DVD, but it will depend on what you want to load.  So far, I've been able to download directly or just copy the info on the CD/DVD in a flash drive and use instead (with a micro USB male female full size USB adapter - which is very handy for many things).

  In response to 2, I used a HARD drive with the USB port adapter (less power than a CD/DVD, so it does not), but I don't know it is really recommended to do if you are going to use a lot because of the power required to drive the HARD drive.  A USB powered hub may be a good option for that too.

  I spent many hours trying to perform this task, but the updates are not installed.

  I tried using the troubleshooting tool that makes some corrections and allowed me to install updates, but now, nothing will be installed. There are still 85 updates that will not be installed.

  The computer seems to hang a lot and run slowly. I also did a full install and recovery several times. I bought a second hand computer.

  Sorry in advance for the confusing explanation!
  My hard drive recently started to crash my laptop and after a few searches using the diagnostics in the bios, I realized that it was defective. I thought I was lucky cause I made a recovery from USB, however, I did after my PC upgraded to Windows factory installed Windows 8 8.1! The upgrade was in a day or two after, I started to use my laptop and I do not do the recovery disk before upgrading!
  Now that I have installed my new HD and USB to load Windows 8.1, Windows asks me to activate Windows! Apparently if you install 8.1 Windows from a recovery disk on a PC provided with Windows 8, you need to activate it!
  So, the answer is that I somehow instal Windows 8 on my laptop on the new hard drive and then upgrade to Windows 8.1! Apparently, if you make a recovery 8.1 on a PC USB disk that has been upgraded from Win8, then a version of win8 is included on the DISC of RECOVERY USB. I can't find any way to install Win8 on my new drive hard using the recovery USB disk that I created after I updated my PC! There is no help anywhere about this problem, a nice person can you please help?
  I still have my original hard drive with partition recovery still on it, and although this hard drive crash the laptop regularly, I still might be able to make some kind of recovery USB or DVD using, if only someone could kindly help me to do so.
  I have to install two hard drives in laptop but the cable and caddy to do this is VERY expensive here in the United Kingdom and it will take a few weeks to get from the United States. Despite this, I really don't know what to do even if I had two drives connected to the laptop at the same time!

  Just as an update...
  If you buy a PC with an operating system already installed on it and it upgrades before making a recovery media, you can recover to the upgraded operating system because windows will ask you for the key. If like me, you did not receive a key, just the operating system on a hard disk partition, and if that hard drive crashes, you're completely banjaxed! I bought my laptop HP in the United States, the United Kingdom HP, although very useful, would not give me a recovery media for my PC because it was American and HP in the United States would not be me send them because they are not allowed to send overseas. In the end, I had to call Microsoft and literally had this were begging for almost 2 hours, and after making me literally try every little thing that I had already tried several times by myself, they basically told me that I had to buy a key that would cost me about £200 for Windows complete 10! Finally, after a lot of explanations, they really gave me 'once only' keys for win10, so I now have a fully functional win10 BONE, but if something should go wrong again, I have to pay to buy a new. Fair enough, I suppose, a little warning to those of you who bought a computer laptop win 8 and immediately improved to win8.1, they will say that win 8 will appear on your media recovery as well as 8.1, but my media was only 8.1 victory! Worthless, unless you have a fully functional key!

  Say, in Win XP Home I'm having a problem with the help of the [prt sc] to capture my screen and save it to paint.  I the keys [prt sc] at the same time, open Paint - and painting (under the Edit menu), the paste is NOT active (I tried the Ctrl V, too) and if nothing is stuck to the Paint window.  I had HP (such as the notebook is a Compaq Presario R3000) and download the update of the launch quick keyboard 2008 and still no luck!

• Last update of MS win 7 was 31 May 2016.

  This morning the computer Win 7 of my wife, set up for auto install mises put up-to-date, got all the updates 17/07/16 (except win 10).  Which works perfectly with my wife.  She's happy with Win 7.

  My Win 7 computer networking, which is set to "notify me when updates are available", usually receives updated a few days before his own.  So I decided to see my status update on the MS Update site.  Then things went a bit wobbly.

  First thing that came was a window saying my Win 10 update has 'failed '.  Even if the popups kept encouraging me to update, I had never tried to install Win 10.  It was a little confusing.  (I know the date limit is July 29, but I'm still pondering whether to move to Win 10 or not - but that's another thread).

  I sailed to "check for updates", jumped out of the window of progress upward and I waited... and waited...  After 20 minutes the progress window was always looking.  (He never took that long before).   I went down and I had breakfast.

  When I came back, she showed that my Win 7 was last updated was on 31 May.  So, I have not updated since.  Hmmm, it's 47 days ago!  I miss my regular "malicious software removal tool."

  I hope someone can tell me how to get my regular updates of Win 7 to view, download, and install.  TIA.

  There was a weird computer on my network. I tried to change the password and unplug the TimeCapsule airport but, it didn't work. Also, my other computer network services NetBIOS name says under WINS and the mysterious appeared. Computer is a PC but also to the first part of the name with numbers after it. I found the computer in the Finder under shared. No download. Help would be gladly appreciated.

  No, it's a well-known scam (http://www.shareyouremails.com/read.cgi?id=1261690874 is a similar example). Do not give your personal information to any person that appear suspicious (why you would win a grand prize to someone you never heard of something you never get the chance to win?). Even if it is not related to Firefox or whatever it is, it is wrong and should be removed.

  SDM 3.5.1.0 running.  SPs for Elitebook turn G1 Tablet (Win 8 64) are different if sought by virtue of show all products or Show This Computer.  No. 2014 SPs show in "All products" at all, but show under "this computer".

  Assuming that the SDM is run on a tablet of G1 turn EliteBook with Windows 8 64 bit on it and that the same exact selection is used for all products mode, there should be no difference between personal and all products , provided that:

  1. you have the same exact model, a BONE, a selected language mode of all products such as detected by SDM
  2. you use the same scale (see the last SoftPaqs or view all SoftPaqs ) for both modes.
     
     Note: the default scale for all products and personal modes are SoftPaqs all Show and Show last SoftPaqs, respectively.
