Suspicious Windows updates

Taking effect 2/11 to 2/26, I noticed that the following updates have been added to my laptop without I install; What is more alarming is that I have my computer set up to check and warn when updates arrive and decide whether to install them.  There are updates that I refer to "Defintion update for Windows Defender KB915597 with these ID #

1.77.30.0, 1.751050.0, 1.75.924.0, 1.75.798.0, 1.75.657.0 and 1.75.657.0, the last one I have installed two times.  The reason I'm worried because I feel a certain number of security issues with the laptop and well I have Norton 360 installed as I will review the history of 'security' I still see where someone is access to content data Thread or process data.

I need help on this can someone advice for the secure this laptop.  Thank you.

  • Extremely slow/unnecessary Windows Update after system recovery.

    Hello

While trying to help a friend with her laptop, I encountered a small problem, which seems quite unique. After searching the ' net and the Knowledge Base, I'm about as clued in as when I started, that is to say not very.

    Machine: Satellite 1800 412 (Danish).

DID: Restore the system to zero back to XP SP1a (NSP).

Problem: After a complete system via the original recovery CD restore, Windows Update is running * extremely * slowly, or not at all, once it gets to the point where it scans for updates you need. So far, I've managed to get 1 downloaded an update, a little. As an update is attempted usage of the processor reaches a maximum at 100% and stay there until I abandon and hard restarts, since the machine is now almost useless and lazy point appear frozen.

Tried to: applied manually different updates downloaded directly from Microsoft, such as Internet Explorer 6 sp1, XP SP2 (DK), various updates and patches for XP downloaded and checked/tried to reinstall the drivers of Toshiba (they are updated). Verify that the systems boots properly with all recognized devices. Check the system clock. Searched the Toshiba KB, searched the Internet, searched the Toshiba support forum. Pulls hair in desperation. I have to have restored the system 4times intant to try different ways of patching the system with updates.

Special features: It is apparently * only * updated Windows, what causes this problem, and that after the first few, where he updates the Windows Update engine in Internet Explorer. Before that I'm trying to update the machine apparently functioning normally. I can surf, download, install and run programs and what not. (No, I did not visit suspicious websites.) If Windows Update runs automatically in the background / 'in the status bar', the same thing is happening: Machine suddenly becomes useless and stays that way.

The machine is on a local network behind one bulletproof OpenBSD firewall, no other Windows machines inside, so there is no chance of a quick infection of the network at the origin of the problem.

Unfortunately: Manually download and apply the patches aren't an option I want to activate the automatic updates before you return the machine back to its owner.

Hope some of you might have an answer to this one, because I have never known or heard of something similar before.

    Frank.

    Hello

  • 32-bit Vista, System Restore and windows update are suspended.

This problem started happening almost two months ago. When I turn off computer and windows update tells me that it is updated, I leave. Ive come back hours later to see that my computer never updated and turns off. Ive tried click on windows update to update while I was connected and it still crashes just forever. Today, I think I discovered perhaps the underlying problem. Finally, I got fed up and decided to do a system restore, after hours of research and try all kinds of solutions on these forums (none worked). So now he is suspended from the system restore. Suspicious to me that when the windows update crashes is on the screen where it says create restore point.

  • MS Windows Update error: 8024402F Code

The machine in question is a VAIO running factory installed 32-bit Vista version 6.00 build 6000 who refuses to install updates through the Microsoft Update service returning the error code 8024402F "Windows Update has encountered an unknown error.

The history of the update shows that the automatic updates started defaulting in December 2008, when he was 6 months and never succeed after that. The first failures were actually for Windows Defender, which also failed since then. When I check each element failed the displayed error code is 80090006.

Online, I verified that Windows Vista is a recognized licensed copy.
I uninstalled the Microsoft AV Software installed at the beginning of 2010.
My internet connection works fine on this machine.
There is no installation of software suspicious around the time of December 2008.
I ran cCleaner to fix any registry problems.
I added that the MS update fixes in IE which is IE8.
I have two XP machines and a Windows 7 computer on the same network that update very well.

None of this has made all the difference and am now in desperation whereas the full version Download Vista SP1 and SP2 and install them locally. Does anyone have experience of these problems? I feel that they are not so rare, but I have tried most of the suggestions that non-specialist can do.

  • Strange behavior of Windows Update

Windows Update prompted me 4 updates of today, marked 'important', so I gave the OK to install.

Then she appeared a EULA I had clicks before it would install them. I've NEVER been asked to accept a EULA for Windows Update before, so I'm not sure that its 100% authentic.

The "update" which seems to be spawning EULA is "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x 64-January 2016 (KB890830)"-If someone can confirm if it is a real update?

I had Malicious Software Removal Tool in updates before, and none of them have EVER prompted me to click an EULA. It's what makes me so suspicious of it.

    Thank you

    Allan

Malware removal tool is safe to download the KB number is correct.

He might invited you for EULA for a new year or they may have changed some things in this. However, in windows 10 I was not asked.

I have been using RoboForm for years without problem. However, last night, I ran the last Windows Update and this morning I had no Robo toolbar on my Firefox. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Robo and still no toolbar. I ran the restore windows at 08/08/15 and there was the fully functional toolbar. I went back to windows update and had the same problem again.

The toolbar may be hidden or the add-on is no longer compatible with Firefox. You right-click at the top near the address bar and to activate a specific toolbar. You can also check your list of Add-ons to see if it is listed as incompatible. Please note that you do not use beta, not everything may work correctly.

This morning my windows vista made some updates. Subsequently the Firefix text is exampe is bad, sometimes unreadable, attached. The text is not bad in IE, but change the return isn't desireble. Text was OK before the reboot of Windows Update. Disable ClearType exacerbates the problem. Data:
Acer laptop Travelmate (6 years), running fully updated Windows Vista, Danish language. Firefix 35.0.1.

    What to do next?

    Regards Lars Jensen

an option may be to tackle this particular update for now until there is a fix from microsoft or you could also look at if there is a graphics driver update available on the Web site of the seller (intel/amd/nvidia) which could also be solved this problem in some cases.

  • How to run Windows update for Win XP SP3 using Firefox

My desktop PC computer running windows XP with SP3. My spouse uses IE 8 for its browser. I use Firefox Version 24. for my browser. Previously, whenever we ran MS or Windows update it starts IE and works very well. IE 8 blew up and does more (execution errors). I tried to go to the site to update Windows using Firefox and he came back and told me that I had to use IE to launch Win update on an XP system. Is this true? I don't want to use IE at all. Is it possible to use Firefox to run Windows or MS update on my Win XP system? Thank you.

You cannot run windows update using Firefox because it uses controls ActiveX Firefox is not (and will never). Yes, then unfortunately use IE for Windows update.

  • I just downloaded the latest Windows updates, now online videos don't work on Firefox but on other browsers, does anyone else have this problem?

After that download the latest version of Windows Update, I found that I could not play videos on YouTube or other sites. Switching to other browsers I found that I could play these same videos now without any problems. So I did a system restore to determine if updates of Windows had hit video play using Firefox. The restore point has been updated with the day before the download of Windows has occurred. After System Restore has been completed I could now play videos using the Firefox browser.

To ensure that Windows Update has been the problem, I downloaded again the most recent Windows updates and once more could not play videos on any site using Firefox. System Restore has been used to put my computer on the eve again and once more the OE videos would play in the Firefox browser.

In fact, your answer took me in a different direction and I found this on the Adobe site:

The extension of RealPlayer for Firefox, the download and registration, has problems of compatibility with Flash Player 11.3. If RealPlayer is installed Flash Player content does not appear. YouTube provides an error message when you try to view a video.

To work around the problem, do the following:

       Start RealPlayer.

Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper-left corner and select Preferences.

Select Download & Recording in the left menu and deselect Enable Web Download & Recording for These Installed Browsers option.

Click OK and restart Mozilla Firefox.

Once I did this I could replay now videos in Firefox.
