Strange behavior of Windows Update

Windows Update prompted me 4 updates of today, marked 'important', so I gave the OK to install.

Then she appeared a EULA I had clicks before it would install them. I've NEVER been asked to accept a EULA for Windows Update before, so I'm not sure that its 100% authentic.

The "update" which seems to be spawning EULA is "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x 64-January 2016 (KB890830)"-If someone can confirm if it is a real update?

I had Malicious Software Removal Tool in updates before, and none of them have EVER prompted me to click an EULA. It's what makes me so suspicious of it.

Thank you

Allan

Malware removal tool is safe to download the KB number is correct.

He might invited you for EULA for a new year or they may have changed some things in this. However, in windows 10 I was not asked.

What are the differences between Windows updates and automatic updates from Microsoft Updates?

While Windows Update provides updates specifically for Windows, Microsoft Update expands the service to download and install updates for other Microsoft software, such as Microsoft Office and Windows Live [as well as Silverlight & Microsoft Security Essentials]. Update automatic is a feature that allows you to configure your PC to automatically download and install updates using each service, making it easy and convenient for you to keep your current Windows PC.

If you disable Microsoft Update, your default update source is "reversed" update of Windows, but it does NOT neutralize automatic updates.

  • Windows mail suddenly strange behavior in Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Windows mail attachment installation behaves is no longer as he did before some 25 windows updates 14/04/2011.

When I receive today a mail with an attachment list of the mails in the Inbox screen poster that an attachment is present however when you click on the specific email mail don't watch not only itb has an attachment also unless there was possible to miss the fact that it is there

If one clicks on the indicator of attachment in the box to list then a message asking you if you want to open the attachment.

One wonders if MS has changed the way Windows Mail works on Vista or upgrades she included it or is it corrupted in some form.

Tried the usual things to stop anti virus etc and the removal of updates, but this made no difference. At this point reluctant to do a restore to pre 14/04/2011.

This is due to a series of bugs introduced by IE 9.  If you uninstall IE9, you'll see that the problems go away.  It is unlikely that there will be a fix, like those of Microsoft aren't replying to MVPs who contacted them on this matter.  You can also work around the problem by opening the message in a separate window.  See this thread for more information: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-networking/windows-mail-font-problems-after-installing-ie9/a4274c96-d44f-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5

  • UAC is not inviting for some things from windows updates

Hello, I noticed something strange since the windows updates this week. Some applications that require UAC elevation before no longer seem to make - games as games, Battlefield 2, etc. UAC is still ongoing enforcement and not disabled, as for example if I try precisely to run a program as an administrator, it appears, and some programs continue also to the prompt about opening like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and all that the brackets in file systems without going through a dedicated service running for him, it just feels as if UAC has been 'relaxed' or at least updated with a list of programs is not to trigger for.

I know that there is an update for the windows 7 UAC a few years ago which facilitated the situations in which the guests would appear, but it's on a Vista system and I don't know if it is problematic. I ran malware scans and they came to own; and this has only started happening (as much, I noticed) the last turns of windows updates, but by reading the articles in the knowledge base for them I'm not sure if one of them would have changed the sensitivity of UAC on Vista guests.

Could someone tell if it is a consequence of any updates? Thank you.

    Hello

I suggest you to check the following link, which talks a lot about UAC.

  • Windows Update - update behaviour strange updates

I'm a bit confused with Windows Update.  Usually, it seems that whenever an update is necessary, I can view the list of updates that must be installed (in Windows Update: select the updates installed).  But I noticed that there are at least two updates that were never filled in this section (showing that they need to be installed), but rather installed on their own.  An example is (KB947821) system update readiness tool [April 2009].  Someone would be able to explain why it would be to move it is displayed in the list "select installed updates"?

Similarly, I recently put my computer to install automatically once per week Monday and today, it's Thursday and it seems to have installed another update (also without him filling in the ' Windows Update: select the installed updates "list.)  This one is called "update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (definition 1.69.18.0) definition.  Why not appear in this list, and why to install automatically today, when I chose Monday to install automatically?

Any help would be appreciated.  I'm really confused by this behavior.  Thank you very much.

    Hello

Start - Windows Defender - ok on the home page (start) for the last Scan and the definition used.

1.69.144, on 10/25/2000 created are the latest from 27/10/2009

Click on Tools - Options - and you can set the calendar - scroll down

Check use Protection in real time and check ALL boxes in the section below.

Advanced options - check all 3

The administrator options - tick both

Set rest as desired - be sure to SAVE.

Then the definition files appear in the control panel - Windows updates and automatic installation should.

I would like to uninstall using the Norton removal tool and use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx - I use all

Then right-click on MSE or AVAST (do not install both!) - RUN AS ADMIN - when you have finished - REBOOT

Then right-click on Prevx - RUN AS ADMIN - when finished - RESTART.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Here's what I use and recommend:

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.
Microsoft Security Essentials also proved very reliable and compatible.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)

Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • A strange question Windows Update (Vista HP x 64)

I need assistance with a strange:

-Processor of Intel (r) Core 2 Quad Q9400 [2,66 GHz]

-15-in-1 memory card reader, USB 2, 1394, audio, video (for TV Tuner)
-ATI TV Wonder external cable digital tuner + TV tuner internal

After a few months everything works well, the other day, I could no longer use "Windows Update", which failed with various error codes.  (Will post a final later with update log because I'm away from the computer at the moment.)  However, I'm looking for a general hypothisis here, not a specific solution.  So Far, in any case.)

So I tried all the usual remedies, stop services, rename files as C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, restart services, re-register all Windows Update DLLs, no joy.

Try restoring the system to a point where I know that updates were working.  No joy.

OK, I have a disk image (Macrium Reflect) which will restore all (including the MBR) up to a point where I know the updates have worked.  Reformat the active partition, restore disk image including image MBR, Windows update STILL does not work.  Of course Windows Defender does not update definitions either because it uses the update services.

Then, I tried a complete restoration of the partition of the hard disk system restore then system restore disks.  Don't agree.

So HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?  Restore the PC with a system restore disc image disc not back to the point where Windows Update works?  What is the assumption here?  What type of virus/spyware could survive a restore disk sector by sector, including the MBR?

Is there some sort of a BIOS virus that could do this?

    What are the possibilities here?

As I said I can post newspapers and specific error codes, but I tried all the solutions, I found online for these codes (and others) without success, until I'm looking for a general assumption of what kind of trouble could survive the new image and restore.

I have disabled all virus, firewall, etc.  I've even around my router directly connected to the cable modem.  I ran hardware tests, no problem.  There is the HP Advisor software that is currently running, but he was executed before the start of the original system and at the time where I saved the disk image, and it does not interfere with Windows Update then.

Add information - I ran at least 5 different virus/spyware packages to see if there is no virus/rootkits etc. detected and everyone was negative.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    John

    Hi John94062,

Thanks for the posts on the community forum.

Reading this post the words "datastor" was what initially was out of me.  For now, however, each log placed in this thread of community reflects a date and data which seem to be some time long ago in the past.  The first was 27/03/09 and the second shows 16/04/09.  In my opinion, he must make a good backup, a clean format and reinstall - without using any Marcurim or any other image software needs to be done.  I also recommend taking off from USB keys or any other external media, as this takes place. Reinstall using the true authentic Windows discs.

John94062, the image stands out as if it keeps the installation that causes the error.

Be sure to have all disks in Windows, all product keys and all the software manufacturers, third-party CD/Media and their product keys before proceeding with this action and all data and important files backed up on external media before performing this action.

Also, if you use a HARDWARE RAID configuration, be sure to check with your hardware vendor for any band perforated or any error causing corruption data.  Those that can be replicated to the backup.

I know that it is stated that a new facility took place, but the dates don't seem to reflect a clean install.  After installation, backups that are restored on the system may have a bad file that can replicate itself on the system so try all updates with only the operating system on the System and before you install other software or backup on the system after the CLEAN install.

Sounds drastic, but something is not reflecting more correct when all dates appear as some time before that happens the clean install.  We will therefore try a Clean format and reinstall using the genuine Microsoft discs, and not just any what imaging software then try the updates only to the operating system on the system.  Let us know if the updates install then.  If they then this is something which is being restored from the backup, you can restore a data segment at a time until the culprit is isolated.

Please let us know if this helps you or if assistance is needed.

  • Strange behavior of audio subsystem after update Dev Alpha 10 to 10.0.9.388

    Hello world!

Has anyone noticed a strange behavior of the behavior of 10.0.9.388 audio subsystem firmware. Recently, after firmware update Dev Alpha 10 to 10.0.9.388 subsystem audio misbehavies in the following way:

    (1) if the external headphones/speakers connected to the audio line-out looks to be preprocessed by low-pass filter and surround effect. The device reported by AudioManager is/dev/snd/pcmPrefferedp. Would it be a bug in formware and re-routing audio internal speaker to the line-out socket did not exclude specific pre-treatment?

    (2) on the previous firmwares if audio goes out of the internal speaker and then the helmet is connected to Jack line out change of itinerary was seemlesly happening and he kept playing with headphones without additional measures in the application. Now, peripheral audio is not consume audio samples and so crashes until it is closed and reopened.

On the previous firmwares were not all the problems of this kind. Would be - what a few unlucky flashing firmware try (if it is still possible) or bug of 10.0.9.388.

It will be good to hear comments & thoughts about these questions.

  • Strange behavior mouse Apple in ESXi VM (Windows Server 2008R2) / ESXi host is of type nested in Fusion Pro 8

    Hello

my Apple mouse shows strange behavior when I start my VM and click in it.

Its an ESXi host nested in a virtual machine in Fusion 8 Pro.

Can someone explain it to me?

    Kind regards

    Roland

He has always had problems when using nested desktop computers, and it is simply the result of the way the mouse behaves fundamentally and how this position gets interpolated differently with nested windows VMRC.

I would just connect to the console of the VM (via vCenter) directly from the Mac, with the guest.

(the 192.168.178.42 would be accessible from the Mac and the VMRC plugin works very well).

  • Strange behavior of the mouse after installing the updated driver

    Hello

Windows Update suggested that I update the mouse and/or the keyboard driver detection. I don't remember the exact message.

Also, I find no trace of this update in the box "Installed updates". It seems that the driver updates are not included.

Symptom: Periodically, the screen scrolls upward around 3 lines, even through I'm even not touching the mouse. It's like the wheel was scrolled beyond a tick.

This has never happened before this update of detection has been installed.

Windows 64-bit Enterprise, USB Intellimouse Optical 1.1

How can I find the update has been installed? How can I remove it?

    Thanks - ankle

    Hi MaskedAnkle,

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows forum.

If you want to see the updated story to update try the following steps to check the update has been installed for programs.

    1. open the control panel (all items view), and click the Windows Update icon. (See screenshot below)

    2. click on the link to view update history. (See screenshot below)

    3. to view the details of a single Windows Update-

    (A) select and right-click on a Windows Update list, and then click details. (See screenshot below step 4)

    (B) click on close when finished. (See screenshot below)

    4. to copy the details of an update of Windows unique to Clipboard-

    (A) select and right-click on a Windows Update list, and then click details.

NOTE: It will be the same details in step 3, but in a text format instead.

    (B) you can now copy the contents of the Clipboard (ctrl + V) in a program such as Notepad or WordPad.

If you think that the problem occurred after the installation of the update of the driver, you can restore the mouse driver and check if that helps.

Steps to roll back a driver:

#Open Control Panel Windows Device Manager.

Manager #In of devices, look for the device that you want to restore the driver.

#After find the material you are roll back the driver, right click on the name or the icon of the device and click Properties.

#In the properties of the device window, click the driver tab.

#On tab driver, click on the button return to the previous version.

Note: If the button return to the previous version is disabled, Windows 7 doesn't have a previous driver to roll back to then you will not be able to complete this process.

#Click the button Yes to the question "Are you sure you want to restore the driver previously installed software?".

We now find the driver already installed. You should see the button return to the previous version is disabled when the roll back is finished.

#Click the close button at the bottom of the screen of the device properties.

#Click Yes in the system settings change dialog box that says: "your hardware settings have changed. You must restart your computer for these changes to take effect. You want to restart your computer now? »

If this message is hidden, the close window command panel might help. You will not be able to close the Device Manager.

    Note:
you are according to the device driver roll back, it is possible that you will not need to restart your PC. If you
do not see the message, consider the complete rear roller.

#Your computer will now restart automatically.

When Windows 7 starts up again, it will load with the device driver of this material that you had previously installed

You can also try the system restore if the problem persists,
    See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212/

    Hope this has helped

  • Windows Update crashes frequently; requires restart

I run Windows Update a bit now and then to stay up to date. However, WU was strange behavior for a while (months): sometimes it freezes with the window simply stay white and the cursor being the circle of waiting and sometimes it crashes when you click on the updates button control (once again the window is all just white). When this happens, I have to restart Windows - otherwise, I can't WU to work.

The problem is that there is no error message and nothing in the newspapers - WU just freezes.

I installed all the updates and keep my computer clean by regularly running anti-spyware and antivirus. This problem has existed for a few months now and I was not able to identify if I installed an update etc that might have caused this.

I run Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, as an upgrade of Windows Vista Business. The problem WU is the only problem that I have.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

    PBylund,
I would recommend that you go and try the option boot than dmw86 recommended.  After a clean boot, run WU and check that it works, then put your PC to sleep for a few minutes then wake him up and try to WU.  Also, before you try this, you must restart your PC and WU before testing and then talk the PC to verify that the problem is after coming out of sleep.  Let us know the results. • Issues coming out of "sleep mode" and strange behavior when restarting with GPU

I use a desktop computer HP P7-1240 completely stock except for a GPU EVGA GeForce GTX 750 TI SC. The GPU works well when the computer is running (which is strange because the forums have several other discussions mentioning the 700 series must be incompatible with my BIOS).

However, there are two main strange problems that have arisen since the installation of the GPU. One is that, every time that the computer enters mode "sleep", he refuses to wake back up correctly. It seems to me that the computer active but sends all the signals back panel (at the very least, no video because my monitors remain blank). On rare occasions, he wakes back correctly, but at least 90% of the time, it must be restarted. Upon reboot, the same problem sometimes (not), and the computer must be rebooted a second time until it will start again.

This leads to the second problem. During startup, the computer goes to a black screen, listing the specifications of basic computer skills (see attached photo. In this screen, the computer does not meet any entry.  He proceeds to beep 3 times, all the same length and height spaced about 30 seconds of gap. After the third beep, the screen goes black and then the computer starts normally with no other strange behavior.

Without the GPU, none of these problems occur. At the very least, not regularly.

I saw another thread mentioned that, while the HP support for my office page lists not her, there is an update of the BIOS for my motherboard which has fixed issues related to the GPU more modern. By nature it is an update of the BIOS that does not (seem to) officially support Windows 7, I am reluctant to go forward with this potential solution.

Although I intend to build myself a new computer from scratch at a certain point, I was hoping to get at least another year out of this machine, if not 2.  While this question does not seem to be immediately threatening the stability of the computer, I can't help but think that it is a question should I go quickly to avoid future problems (not to mention it would save me a good amount of electricity to be able to enter the mode 'sleep' on a regular basis).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Problem has been solved!

For those of you who have trouble sleeping with the p7-1240 or computers with a card mother identical (MSI Jasmine Ms 7778 ver 1.0), I suggest that you follow this thread:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/desktop-hardware/unable-to-boot-with-new-graphics-card/TD-p/3930544/highlight/true

It is to use an update for your BIOS that is intended only for PC under Windows 8, but that seems to work perfectly well with Windows 7 PC. It solved my problems of sleep and makes the computer to behave at least semi normally while restarting.

However, as indicated in the wire, an update of the BIOS should be a last resort because it can turn your machine into a very heavy and expensive paperweight if something does not work. Do not forget that you have the worm 1.0 card mother MSI Ms 7778 Jasmine and remember that you update the BIOS version 8.18.

As I am looking for 2aeo on HP.com currently (according to the thread leading up to), I'm not find the same links I found last week when I went through the update. However, you can find elsewhere.

There is no indication that something went WRONG minidump, no discharges of any sort, sfc/scannow ran own just like chkdsk, memtest, tester of windows 7 and all other diagnostic tools.

He did it before, but very rarely, so I thought nothing of it (which happened in the spans of the months apart) but now happened several times a day.

    Recent software additions:

Installing the software and drivers Lexmark Prospect Pro205

-Updated Nvidia graphics drivers Geforce 6150SE nForce 430 to 8.17.12.9573 and it's Helper service ver 295,73

What I did to try to rectify the situation:

-Scanned with each virus/malware free scan in existence - deleted an infected file from Java Java/CVE-2011-3544. O operate. And another unrelated to the advertising program.

    -Updated HP Assistant and Advisor

-Updated several times with various updates for windows 7

-Clean the case thought it was overheating, but nope - clean as a whistle, normal running time

    -Good fans checked

-Extract from food - looked good, constant voltage

I haven't checked the power extension cables. I heard there is a problem with shorting out on the 24-pin extensions, but I didn't have an extension of 24 pins on the power cables.

I've heard others have had problems with HP stopping randomly with a strange behavior, so I wanted to see what you guys have to say.

Could this be problems of power with my house? The wiring is old... Or more likely is a short circuit in the cable/PSU?

How can I easily repair/test of this theory?

-All right, so the system restore has nothing but destroy some files, because I couldn't not correctly backup the drive between the random stops.

However, I found the solution to my problem, that you won't believe.

Short answer: I replaced the stock HP keyboard (model KU-0841) who seems to have been short.

    The long answer:

-When the computer kept shutting down even in safe mode after a destructive recovery, I started watching again material.

-Noticed my typing would sometimes record, sometimes just go crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy (like this).

-Then comes the keyboard no longer works. Thus, while the veto stops with WORD 2007 and using the keyboard on the screen in Win7, I thought it was a terrible virus - it wasn't.

-When I unplugged the USB keyboard it's a strange electric 'bzz' sound, like what you hear when static is unloaded. It turns out that the USB port has been be short-circuited by the keyboard.

On the keyboard and the USB plug was going well, so I don't know who is to blame again, however - if someone is having the same weird problems with events of the power of the nucleus and 1074 with 0x500ff errors-try to check your hardware.

After replacing the keyboard, everything works perfectly.

  • foreign key 'generate' strange behavior check box, any idea?

Summary: in the properties of the table, the foreign keys, the box generate behaves badly, and I don't understand why or how I got there.

    Oracle Data Modeler 4.0.2.840 8.1 X 64 Windows, jdk1.7.0_55

    the behavior is:

    (1) add the foreign key (two different more to see strange behavior)

    (2) uncheck 'generate' on a foreign key

    (3) apply, Ok

    (4) ask 'Preview DDL', a foreign key constraint is generated, SO FAR SO GOOD, I'm happy

5-now click on the button 'generate the DDL' for any design = > * * TWO foreign keys are generated?

    (6) even more strange: sometimes the 'generate' check itself after step 5, most of the time is not

    (7) at the beginning this has occurred for a couple of foreign key 'uncheckees', now it almost always happens.

The relational model was built by importing the SQL scripts already exist (try to migrate the Data Modeler). No too complex ~ 115 tables, 12 times.

I think it's a bug, but I can't find any reference on the web, maybe I do something wrong?

    Hi Michel,.

The generation is different depending on whether or not the relevant storage design is open.

If the design of the storage is not open, the option "Generate DDL" on the foreign key is taken into account (for an overview of the DDL or full generation of DDL).  For an entire generation of DDL, the foreign key will initially not selected phase in the generation of the DDL if Options the option "Generate DDL" on the foreign key has been disabled.  (This change in the phase of the generation of DDL Options will also cause the option "Generate DDL" on the foreign key update.)

If the design of the storage is open, the option 'generate DDL"on the foreign key has no effect (in a Preview of DDL or full DDL generation).

Also in a generation full of DDL, an object will be initially marked as not selected if it has been disabled in the previous generation of DDL.

I hope that this helps to explain the behavior that you find.

    David
