• cannot vmotion/svmotion vm - compatibility error

  I upgraded a few host ESX (and VC) to vSphere/vCenter. Almost everything works fine (at least machines of windows). But I have 2 VM linux (centos 5.2) after upgrading their equipment to version 7, cannot be vmotioned/svmotioned in market, because it is said

  "CPU host is incompatible with the requirements of the virtual machine to CPUID level 0 x 1 'ecx' register."

  I googled for this but every points of server incompatibilities result. But here, all servers are exactly the same (dell pe2950 with the same processor). and also other virtual machines (also those-centos linux) work well. This just to 2 my vms. Of course, I can stop it and migrate, but I wish it works online

• Cannot machine SVmotion

  I'm trying SVmotion some new storage machines. Most worked fine but I have 4 machines continually fail. When you try to move, an error pops up that says "error caused by file vmfs/volumes / < datastore > / < servername > / < config > hard (see picture)." I looked at the logs for vmkernel and spend. Hostd.log don't really have a denunciation. VMkernel.log has the following error:

  I tried to use VEEAM but also, it fails with the error "error: Client error: error VDDK: 1. Unknown error cannot retrieve the next block transmission control.» Number of blocks already processed: [8036].

  I also tried VMware Converter but who also failed with the "FAILURE: a general error occurred: TaskInfo indicates an error, but no exception is specified. Using the browser to store data also fails copy the file. I even recorded the machine virtual and recorded again, but that doesn't seem to help.

  Any idea on how to move the machine?

  0 you put your backuptool (Veeam or other...) using CBT does a bad job: disable the CBT for this virtual machine, disable the existing backup jobs and unplug the backuptool for this data store
  1. check if the vmdk is locked - if there is no lock or only 00000... Restart the host that has registered the virtual machine
  2. If vmkfstools-i fails: create a snapshot so that the partly damaged vmdk will be only used readonly - then use vmkfstools suspicious-i - 000001.vmdk fixed.vmdk

  3. If the virtual machine always starts: use a Linux LiveCD and clone the VMDK with dd to a newly created vmdk
  4 try to clone the VMDK with converter - also use a snapshot empty VM to work with

  5. If 1-4 fails: read the VMFS volume vmfs-fuse Linux and use gddrescue to copy the vmdk to USB or network

  6. If there are 5. fails and the vmdk is supplied thickness: see start and endpoint of the vmdk and copy the box with a Linux LiveCD gddrescue

  I'm running a partial tile at this stage - basically I excluded enamel / workloads of Eve, but all the rest is enabled.

  My workshop starts up and looks like it's able to talk about everything, I can see it pull information for vCenter and initialization of workloads for OlioDB, etc..

• Hot SvMotion from large SQL databases

  I had a few questions about the svMotion from a large SQL server VM. The vmdk is around 2 TB. The svMotion will take about 10 hours. I believe that, according to the white paper on the functioning of vMotion, the current state of the virtual machine is captured as the system changes during the virtual machine through a bitmap file.

  I just believe in the magic that is vMotion, but wanted to get a better understanding of what is happening under the hood.

  1. What is this bitmap file, and where changes are stored?

  2 - How is taken the vMotion and bitmap copy? Is it mainly a backup copy of the point in time of the VM/storage with incremental backups of the full backup once the vMotion starts? All of the incremental backup is then applied to the full backup once the VM/storage arrives at its destination?

  3. is there the _any_ loss of any SQL transaction on this 10-hour period?

  4. If there is no transaction drops, hash verification fails, etc. - how VMware detects and corect these errors?

  5. is there something that is regarded as too massive for vMotion live? An example might be a SQL Server with 8 GB of ram, 4 vcPU with 2 TB of data making 600 IOPS / s.

  6 - vMotion is possible on a WAN? If so, what are the requirements of speed and latency?

  1. What is this bitmap file, and where changes are stored?

  For vmorion there is no bitmap file - the machine is suspended in memory is copied to the target host and the virtual computer is started on the target host.

  With Storage vMotion - snapshot comes from the virtual disk, which means that the real virtual disk writes are redirected to a snapshot file that records the delta changes to the virtual disk

  As I said vMotion does not bitmap - while Storage vMotion creates a snapshot of the virtual that saves any changes made on the disc - it took not the backup drive

  NO.

  VMware does not check for those I know.

  For vMotion and SvMotion is as far as I know - the issue you are having with SvMotion and high IOPS / s is the Christ of the snapshot file.

  Yes vMotion can be done on the Wan, but latency requirements are rather tight - 10 ms latency roundtrip with Enterprise Plus -

• VIC SVmotion Plugin not able to move VMDK and leave the rest

  I use ESX 3.5 update 4 with the 1.0.0.0 SVmotion plugin.  I have a virtual machine that has 2 disc two currently on the store of data even zFCP.  I wan to move the second disk (D:\) in the first disc on the zFCP data store and a SATA data and survey the VM store.  I right-click the virtual machine, select storage to migrate, and I emphasize the second disc.  I can drag it to the SATA data store and click on apply.  After a few seconds, I get the error message:

  The requested Storage VMotion would move disks to a virtual machine without affecting the virtual machine, a new home page, but such an approach is not supported on the host source "hostname".

  If I try to move the VM together with the two discs, which works very well, but I only want the second disc.  Is it possible to move one disk of a virtual machine and do not have to move the entire virtual machine?  I thought that the SVmotion point should have the ability to move around VMDK.

  you will need to do this, use the remote CLI.

  First install the VI remote CLI, you can download it from the following locations.  http://www.vmware.com/download/vi/drivers_tools.html.

  Open a command prompt, and then navigate to the bin directory in C:\Program VMware VI remote CLI\.

  Then, run the following command to put the svmotion in interactive mode

  C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware VI remote CLI\bin > svmotion.pl - interactive

  It will then ask you to enter your coordinates of VC and once you are connected to the VC, you need to enter the name of your datacenter (case sensitive)

  then it will ask you to enter the location of the vmx

  I tried to svmotion one of the D drive my VM to the same data as the VMX and VMDK disk C store. See attachment for the error.

  a solution would be to take the .vmx and the other disk, move it to the data store where the D: drive, when that ends then you can move everything again.

  .. .or if it fails to stop the virtual machine and make a cold migration.

  I guess that you do this with the sVMotion Plugin?

• Cannot SVmotion due to memory allocation

  We have a SQL box running on a host computer with 12 GB of RAM. This memory is pre-allocated (reserved). When I try to initiate a storage vmotion, I get an error:

  No compatible host has sufficient resources to satisfy the booking

  The host has 16 GB of memory, and so have other hosts in the cluster.  This virtual machine is almost dedicated to a host due to the memory so he rarely vmotion from one host to another. How can I fill the SVMotion? Can I do otherwise than in stopping, placed no reserve and try again?

  With 3.X, which is not possible, it will create a shadow VM on the host itself and it will have 2 x resources. You could do a cold migration, it's your only option at the moment...

  I searched through this forum and have not found an answer that works in many positions out there, I say to myself that I would ask him once again.

  Here's the context:

  We have 12 identical Dell M600 blades in 2 chassis with 16 GB of Ram, 2 x Xeon E5430, they are all connected to an Equallogic PS 5000XV iSCSI SAN on a separate iSCSI (vswitch1) with 2 cards network dedicated network and dedicated switch, console svc iscsi dedicated, dedicated VMkernel port for iscsi access. Net access (vswitch0) contains port groups VM for our various networks and a console port and vmkernel svc for VMotion with 2 separate NETWORK cards as well.

  We are running ESX 3.5 U3 and VCenter 2.5 U3 on Win2k3 R2

  VMotion works between all servers, Storage Vmotion works for most machines, HA works and the value 2 host failurs with no monitoring of vm, DRS is set to manual for now I have a few machines on the local stores that I complete my rebuilt LUN, there is no set of rules for DRS and VMware EVC is enabled for guests of the Intel. However, I'll just describe one machine to do svmotion below.

  Here's the problem:

  I'm trying to Svmotion via svmotion.pl - interactive, a Machine to Windows 2000 with a virtual disk and a virtual RDM. I am aware of the requirements for the RDM and required parameters for svmotion, independent is not selected for the RDM, and I also have svmotioned several machines linux and win2k3 with the same configuration without problem. In the interactive session, I choose to individually place the disks and I chose the virtual disk to only the virtual machine to be moved, essentially, as I saw it move vdisk virtual machine and then copy to the pointer of the RDM.

  The use of the processor in this machine is about 25% average. but I try to run migrations at the time the lowest. and The Host it itself shows only about 5.5 GB of the 16 GB of RAM used. so I think we're good on the RAM. the volume/datastore that I'm migrating from has 485 GB free and the volume/datastore I migration towards a 145 GB free. the VM virtual disk is only about 33 GB.

  I run the script the windows version of the RCLI svmotion. and when to begin the process, I get the following error at around 2 percent of the progress:

  "Since the server has encountered an error: a general error occurred: could not wait for the data."  Error bad0007. Invalid parameter. »

  After searching around, I found the following hotfixes to the U2 release notes

  • Migrate.PageInTimeoutResetOnProgress: Set the value to 1.

  • Migrate.PageInProgress: The value 30, if you get an error even after the setting of the Migrate.PageInTimeoutResetOnProgress variable.

  I've made these changes, and I still get the same error.

  When I dig in the newspaper, I see these entries in the journal of vmkwarning:

  The vmkernel on out of memory error, I had that before. And vmware support recommends setting 800M Max service console memory. And I did it and have no problems after that.

  Try to get itunes working to make a backup of my faulty iphone before repair.

  First-itunes does not start says error. I'm trying to fix it, who said success but same error when you try to start it.

  Hi, I searched some forums and found this script below which I modified. It works great except for a single statement:

  runScript If = 1 then number error -128 I want the script to do is, when a USB drive is mounted and is in the ignoredVolumes as "USB Untitled" I want the script to stop. What I can't understand is, runScript is set to 1, "Untitled USB" Monte, runScript is not changed, why don't the script stops with an error "user cancelled"? On the other hand, if a key USB Monte is not in the ignoredVolumes, runScript is set to 2 and copy the file I want it. What hurts? It's probably something that will be very obvious when I see the answer.
