SVMotion individual disks

I can svmotion one a vdisk virtual machine at the same time? or do I have to move all the virtual drives in a virtual machine to a new data store at the same time?

Yes, you can simply select the advanced option on the data store selection screen, select the specific virtual disk that you want to migrate, and then select the destination data store.

Store the configuration of virtual machines and disks files in different places.

  • Storage vmotion with several virtual disks

I have a couple of virtual machines with virtual disks on them.  I have a need to pass one of the virtual disks in a different lun while leaving others in the current location.  I would like to move this disk without impact on our users, which means that I like to keep the operational machine.  I did several Vmotions storage with great success.  I want to know is if there is a way to use Storage Vmotion and tell him to move only a single virtual disk on a multi VM disk.

Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?

    Thank you!

    Download and install the RCLI.

Run the sVMotion intereactive mode.  This will guide you through the process with the ability to move the individual disks.

I use storage vMotion the remote CLI much and I use almost exclusively the function to simply move some disks and leave some wherever they are. • Ran Diagnostic Report/average line of the disc is 2

About 2 weeks ago, I upgraded my Vista laptop to 1 GB. It works perfectly, but I ran a Diagnostic report and it showed in the information Section that average disk queue length was 1. Hi Ana,

Length of queue Disk Avg... This counter is in fact closely related to the % disk time counter. This counter converts a decimal value to the % disk time and displays. This counter will be necessary at the time where the disk configuration employs several controllers for several physical disks. In these cases, the overall performance of the disk IO system, which consists of two controllers, could exceed that of an individual disk. So, if you look at the % disk time counter, you would see only a value of 100%, which represent the total potential of the entire system, but only that he had reached the potential of a single record on a single controller. The actual value may be at 120%, which displays the Avg. disk queue length counter. 1.2.

The tab disk in the resource monitor (Start - Run - Resmon, or just the button resource monitor in the performance of the Task Manager tab) will show the disk of process activity to help understand this specific process is causing so much disk activity.

What is the unit allocation size that is displayed in the window to format usb

    Hi Moaz,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you want to know the unit allocation size that is displayed in the format USB window. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I will certainly help the question of fixing.

In computer file systems, a cluster is the unit of allocation of disk space for files and directories. To reduce the load of the management of data on disk structures, the file system allocates no individual disk sectors, but contiguous groups of sectors, called clusters.

On a disk that uses 512-byte sectors, a 512-byte cluster contains one sector, whereas a 4-Kibibyte (KiB) contains eight sectors.

Refer to the below mentioned article and see if it provides information that you are looking for.

Hot spots: a quarrel of disc, i.e. when an individual disk drive is overloaded with e/s and have the ability to answer within the time scheduled or desired. The term dates with database I/O performance, where a relatively small segment of the database (hot spot) is responsible for a high number of disk bed and written that overloading a single disc.

  • VMware Vcenter Converter Standalone Java SDK

    Hi guys,.

Currently, I'm trying to imitate what is the GUI version, but I want to use scripts to do the work that is, somehow, to automate the whole process. I installed the Client-Server version, using the code example in the sdk > samples > axis, I managed to do the job, however, I'm unable to specify the minimum value for a specific record. I want to do this because the GUI version allows me to take a minimum storage for a specific disk space and place it on the ESXi server, for my version of java SDK I am unable to take the minimal storage space and had to take the entire disk that I don't like.

For example, the C drive has a total of 200 GB with 50 GB used space and 150 GB of unused space

Version of GUI-> able to avoid 200 GB and take approximately 50 GB only (give and take a few GB more) push-to-server ESXi
Version java SDK-> only able to take in all of 200 GB and push to ESXi that takes lots of my ESXi Server

Is it possible, for example by specifying a certain variable so that I can push my drive with minimum disk storage value instead of taking the entire batch of unused space? Oh and 1 other question, is possible to turn on virtual machines in the ESXi after reboot using a script? I did search but can't really find anything so I thought that it would be a good thing to ask here. Any help would be appreciated because I'm a newbie with this

    See you soon!

    Hello

You must set the target disk and volumes to clone in order to be able to specify the size of the volume. By default, when these are disabled, is to keep the source size of the volumes.

First make sure you have the SDK examples that are new, such as 6.0 or 6.1. Then, look at the end of the submitwinp2vjob.properties file, you will see this section:

; Must precede the individual disk fields. Assumed to be 0 if not defined. Must follow target.type.

; Fields of individual disk with a number equal or greater than this indictment will be ignored.

    Storage.targetdisk.Count =

; Use of the source id obtained by QuerySource or leave blank for new disks

    Storage.targetdisk.sourcediskid #0 =

; The valid values for target managed: vmfsMonolithicFlat, vmfsMonolithicFlatThinProvisioned,.

    ;                                                vmfsTwoGbFlat, vmfsTwoGbFlatThinProvisioned

; The valid values for target hosted: monolithicFlat, monolithicSparse, twoGbFlat, twoGbSparse

; Leave blank to use the default value of the target

    Storage.targetdisk.DiskType #0 = vmfsMonolithicFlatThinProvisioned

    Storage.targetdisk.LVG #0 = false

    Storage.targetdisk.GPT #0 = false

Storage.targetdisk.datastore #0 =; Name of the data store; applicable and compulsory for managed targets

; Must precede the fields individual volumestoclone. Assumed to be 0 if not defined.

; Fields of individual volume with a number equal or greater than this indictment will be ignored.

    Storage.targetdisk.volumestoclone.Count #0 =

; The first index is the index of the disk, the second is the volume index

; Use of that source id obtained by QuerySource

    Storage.targetdisk.volumestoclone.sourcevolumeid #0 #0 =

    Storage.targetdisk.volumestoclone.Resize #0 #0 = false

    Storage.targetdisk.volumestoclone.newcapacityinbytes #0 #0 =

    Storage.targetdisk.volumestoclone.newclustersizeinbytes #0 #0 =

Here, you must complete the number of target, properties of the target disks disk and their number of respective volumes and properties.

The trickiest part is to get the ID of source disks and volumes. Querying the source info will give you this data (as indicated by the comment). Then, you have to find a way to set up the configuration of the target using these data. It is this that the customer of the user interface, and it gives a lot of flexibility for the user to change this configuration. Something that you should be aware is that when this Linux P2V, each logical volume group gets its own target disk (and his "storage.targetdisk.lvg #i" sets to true).

    Once you describe the target configuration, usestorage.targetdisk.volumestoclone.resize #i #j = true fields'and'storage.targetdisk.volumestoclone.newcapacityinbytes #i #j =' resize the volume.

The numbers after the signs sharp suck according to index (not ID!) of the disk and volume (in that order). In the previous line, 'I' is the index of the disc, 'j' is the volume index.

  • SuperMicro RAID Intel C612 controller

I am looking at a SuperMicro server and I want to say until I talk to my dealer again. I'm not finding the controller Intel C612 RAID on the VMware HCL. I see that SuperMicro says "it is supported", but I think that it is only supported as a disk controller and not a RAID controller. Can someone check?

C612 is Intel-chipset containing rest (rapid storage technology). Support is the card mother and chipset, same-sata ports, but not this "raid controller". Basically, it's a fake (aka the bios software-, pseudo-) raid, and these are usually not supported with ESXi. Even if you create the table, ESXi will see individual disks. Forget this shit and me raid controller hardware true good for ESXi, with built-in cache and power loss protection.

  • Advice needed on improving the system

    Forum of expensive equipment,

I built a computer 5 years ago (mainly based on the advice of evil ) who has worked for me since then. However, I just built a system (small) (I5, MB: 6.0 Gb/s SATA gates, etc.) to a member of the family and it is so much faster that my old I took him wanted him and decided to upgrade my system.

    My current system:

      1. Motherboard: ASUS P6X68D Premium
      2. Processor: Intel Core i7 930
      3. Chipset: Intel X 58 / ICH10R
      4. Memory: 24 GB (DDR3)
      5. Graphics card: MSI GEFORCE GTX 970 (NVIDIA)
      6. Motherboard ports:
        • 6 x SATA 3.0 Gb/s at HDs 5 and 1 OD
        • SATA 6.0 Gb/s on front eSATA port
        • SATA 6.0 Gb/s to hot box switchable front panel

(The system is on an individual disk.  E and F are "Work" and "Scratch" each consists of two drives in RAID 0. All discs are 1 TB, SATA II).

    New system (I think):

      1. Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X 79 LGA 2011
      2. : Core I7 - 3930K Hexa-Core processor

Other components of the old system would be used.

    Issues related to the:

    1. This system would be "a lot" faster (not a specific question for a physicist ) than the current one?
    2. I would RAID?
    3. Would be the SSD anywhere (but not all!) in the system to fix even more?

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Thank you

    LACI.

Of course, it all depends on the budget available, but if I upgrade now an i7-930, these would be my main ingredients:

    • CPU: i7-5930 K or i7-5960 X. Not the i7 - 5820K as suggested above because of the limitation of only 28 PCIe lanes, which closes off the coast of expansion capability.
    • Mobo: Asus X99E-WS
    • Memory: GSkill Ripjaws 4 F4-2666, 32 or 64 GB
    • Disc of BONE: Samsung SM951 SSD, 256 GB m2
    • Extra PCIe card: card PCIe M2 Addonics ADM2X4 for
    • Media / disk cache: Samsung SM951 SSD, 512 GB m2

and continue to use the GTX970 and the current HDD on SATA 6 G ports. I would certainly like to overclock the CPU at about 4.5 GHz.

If you have still a few available budget, I would add that some Samsung 850 Pro 1 TB SSD on SATA 6 G ports for media and projects and delegate 1 TB for backup HARD drive.

That way you can later add another Addonics card when the Samsung SM951 NVMe m2 readers reach 1 TB of capacity and possibly a second GTX without running out of lane PCIe 970. If you were to go in the direction of 'cheap' with the i7 - 5820K, you would have used 16 (video) + 4 (m2), 4 (ADM2X4) = available 28 24 lanes PCIe, leaving no room for a raid controller or a second video card.

An i7 - 4790K is not an option, because it's only a 4-core, which is only marginally faster than the i7 - 930 (certainly not twice as fast, as claimed in the previous post), he is severely handicapped by only 16 available PCIe lanes used by the video card has no crack m2 on the mobo and you can reuse only 16 GB of your existing RAM except if you have sticks of 3 x 8 GB, in which case you would need one extra to get to 32 GB identical bar. 24 GB is not an option on a mobo 11xx due to the memory controller.

  • Install ESXi cannot see the RAID array

I tried to install ESXi 5.1 on a HP Proliant Dl160 G6, with 4 hard drives of 2 TB in RAID 1 + 0 array, using a HP b110i controller. When it comes time to select the installation media ESXi to, the installer sees the 4 physical disks, rather than the logical disk that I created with the controller.

The b110i is a RAID controller-based software that does not support the ESXi.  As you have noticed it will not recognize the individual disks and it work perfectly with them as individual disks.  But if you are looking for a RAID array, you need to add another RAID controller.

  • need to vmdk with more than size of 2 TB

    Hello

I install ESXi5 on 2 x 72 > RAID 5 and create VMs on it (2008), now I have to create vmdk and assign it to this virtual machine with more than 2.5 TB of size.

I creat new RAID set and now I have data store with 3 TB space, but I can't to creat 2.5 or more to vmdk

How can I create?  How can I activate the RAW Disk Mapping on the local storage?...

you will not see local hard drives, it is already in the RAID, then only you can see the raid volume. Which is given below

    MPX.vmhba2:C0:t0:l0<-- disk="">

    MPX.vmhba2:C0:t0:l0:1<-- partition="">

    MPX.vmhba2:C0:t0:l0:2<-- partition="">

It is not recommended to violate the recommended settings and rules given by vmware, it will raise many problems and if it is in production you will be screwed. On the thing you can do, is to create dynamic disks and create a split volume.

    http://www.Techotopia.com/index.php/Creating_and_Managing_Simple_and_Spanned_Volumes_on_Windows_Server_2008

If you still want to go for RDM local pause, the RAID and see if it detects the ESX or not and if you can see the individual disks and if you are able to make RDM with these discs, then back to the VM will intervene only individual HDD so no raid and protection? So it is very risky
