Swapping in memory of Oracle

Hello

I have a general question on the oracle concept:

Suppose we have a database with the SGA of 1 GB (buffer Cache - 600 MB) and we issue a command that updates all the data in the table of 3 GB. Commit is not yet done. How oracle handles this?

Where will be the blocks updated the cache buffer stored?

Thank you!

  • strengthen the memory of oracle database

    Hi guys,.

    How do you know if we need to strengthen the memory of oracle database?

    I know, instance efficieny hit % is not an exact value to look at as low % does not mean that the server is running out of memory. This may mean that some of the sql made many complete analysis leading to low % of success.

    It is advisory to watch SGA Advisory target / PGA Advisory target?

    Years: Yes.

    In addition, you can check the ADDM report for your high-end database load time. In ADDM, you can get advice to increase the SGA.

    But, if your end user is satisfied with the performance of the database then it is useless to increase SGA/PGA.

  • SGA, PGA is greater than the memory and oracle does not work

    Hello

    Wrongly, I put the following:

    ALTER system SET sga_max_size = 1500M scope = spfile;

    ALTER system SET SGA_TARGET = 1400M scope = spfile;

    ALTER SYSTEM SET PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET = 9000M scope = spfile;

    My total memory is 16 GB, Win8

    When I rebooted the oracle, he could not start and I m sure 100% that these sizes of memory are the problem.

    Now, I can not connect to the DB set these sizes of memory.

    How can I change the SGA, PGA, while the entire oracle is down? It is not only the DB instance that is nt working. It s the entire oracle.

    Is it possible to change the spfile from a text editor?

    I d appreciate your quick responses.

    Vidar, great recommendation.  There are cases where the spfile directly change can cause problems. If you happen who meet and the spfile is not usable, you can also create a new pfile of content in the journal of the alerts, start the instance by using the new file pfile, then make a copy of the pfile to the spfile.  Here are the basic steps if the spfile is corrupted and you need to create a new:

    (1) find the alerts log, copy the lines below the comment "parameters of the system with default values:" in a new file calledinit .ora and save the file in the directory by default (dbs or database) file.

    (2) make sure that the bad spfile is not in the directory of the file/start setting and start the Oracle service & the instance should now be available.  If you are not able to connect as "/" try to use sys / as sysdba

    (3) create a copy of the spfileinit .ora file: sql > create spfile from pfile;     -You can specify the directories, or leave the default value.

    (4) return & validate the parameters according to the directives of our discussion earlier.

    Hussien, I hope this helps.

  • Relationship between physical memory and oracle initialization parameter

    Hi all

    I had been confused with the oracle initialization parameter setting.

    When set us the oracle initialization parameter. For example: Shared pool size, db_cache_size, target memory.

    What to consider about the physical memory to the operating system. If so, how to address the issue?

    Please notify. Thank you.

    SagiGal wrote:

    Review you mean that if the physical memory is 2gig, and you are ready to set the SGA greater than this, it will work or not, the answer would be that it would be a very bad thing to do. These parameters represent the SGA, which must be restricted in respect of the maximum physical memory available on the server.

    See the link given by Rp. From 10 g, it rarely need this kind of tuning.

    Understand. Thank you. Can answer me another question?

    SQL > show sga parameter

    VALUE OF TYPE NAME
    ------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
    lock_sga boolean FALSE
    PRE_PAGE_SGA boolean FALSE
    very large integer SGA_MAX_SIZE 1152 M
    SGA_TARGET large integer 0
    SQL > show the spfile parameter

    VALUE OF TYPE NAME

    chain of SPFile

    in the above scenario, the database do not use EAMA and spfile
    If I wan to increase db_cache_size parameter, do I rebounce instance?

    Could be very easily answer this question for yourself by searching for the parameter in the docs. See here,
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e25513/initparams052.htm#REFRN10033

    Its a dynamic parameter and does not need a db bouncing to change.

  • Shared memory on the Sparc Server running Oracle 10 G

    Newbie: I can overscribe memory on a server that hosts multiple instances of Oracle? It seems normal to oversubscribe memory on multiple instances if Oracle assigns the maximum available memory on a server at the time of the request.
    For example:

    How Oracle manages memory if I have 16 GB of physical memory, run 4 instances of Oracle on my server and specify the max_sga than 8 GB in my/etc/project file? This configuration seems to oversubscribe memory twice, 32 GB memory requested on a server that has only 16 GB of physical memory.

    Oracle manages memory differently if I have 16 GB of physical memory, run 4 instances of Oracle on my server and specify the max_sga like 16 Gb in my/etc/project file? This configuration seems to oversubscribe memory four times, 64 GB memory requested on a server that has only 16 GB of physical memory.

    Thank you for your help.

    With Solaris and DISM, you can set the MAX_SGA_SIZE and the TARGET_SGA_SIZE of different values. The TARGET_SGA_SIZE for all MORE the PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET instances for all instances should be around 80-90% of the total RAM. You can then change the targets to let different instances have 'more' when they need while reducing others.

    In this way, you can manage the memory and avoid swapping, because when it comes to performance (and managers yell at you for low performance) swap is not a good thing.

    Note that this is possible on the machines and operating systems that support the DISM and enabled/configured. Which is discussed in the manuals of Solaris.

    But in the ideal, a machine will have only one instance of database and several instance of database requirements will be consolidated as much as possible. (Although he explain literally hundreds sof reasons do not consolidate - several policies rather than technical.)

  • Oracle uses my memory without permission?

    Hi gurus,

    First time I saw this situation. I have a server with about 10 GB of RAM. 4 GB of that memory is set for Oracle SGA, PGA and other spaces of memory to oracle. But for a few days (orders 'free-m' and "ps - EO mmtp, rss"), I noticed that more than 90% of this memory is used by oracle treats (user and background processes).
    What is the most interesting 2 process that uses memory, most are dbw0 and dbw1. As I checked the database of this beginning of 2 process about 7 working days ago. During this couple of days that my database is not using so much I don't know what they're doing so long and why they used about 20% of my memory.

    Hope to hear your opinion on my situation.

    DB-> 11 g
    OS--> RHEL

    database writer process begins when you start the database instances and stop when you close to the bottom so its normal for them to be present.

    Reported memory as used by a process includes shared memory, a rough estimate of how much is shared and how much is not shared can be found using the proc and IPCS-m file system. p. ex.

    Cat ' ps - ef | grep "oracle" | grep - v grep | AWK ' {print "/ proc /" $2 "/ freddy'smaps"} "| grep Rss | "awk ' {sum += $2} END {print" RSS: "sum/1024" MB""} "

    will give you the total memory used by the oracle process

    Cat ' ps - ef | grep "oracle" | grep - v grep | AWK ' {print "/ proc /" $2 "/ freddy'smaps"} "| grep Shared | AWK ' {sum += $2} END {print "Shared:" sum/1024"MB" "}'

    I will tell you how much of that is shared memory.

    IPCS m | grep "oracle" | grep - v grep | AWK ' {sum += $5} END {print "ipcsmemory:" sum/1024/1024"MB" "}'

    Tell you the total size of the segments shared memory to oracle.

    to get the total memory used by oracle, subtract the second number from the first, then add the third. for example.

    Cat ' ps - ef | grep "oracle" | grep - v grep | AWK ' {print "/ proc /" $2 "/ freddy'smaps"} "| grep Rss | "awk ' {sum += $2} END {print" RSS: "sum/1024" MB""} "
    RSS: 33919,1 MB
    Cat ' ps - ef | grep "oracle" | grep - v grep | AWK ' {print "/ proc /" $2 "/ freddy'smaps"} "| grep Shared | AWK ' {sum += $2} END {print "Shared:" sum/1024"MB" "}'
    In common: 30022,1 MB
    IPCS m | grep "oracle" | grep - v grep | AWK ' {sum += $5} END {print "ipcsmemory:" sum/1024/1024"MB" "}'
    ipcsmemory: 4002 MB

    real memory used = (33919.1 - 30022.1) + 4002 = 7899 MB

    More or less, as the scripts read from / proc data will not be a consistent point in time.

    Warning: this is a very rough calculation, I hit upwards to prevent people complaining that oracle was using 150-300% of the available memory, may be completely wrong and defiantly won't work if you use WMA (memory_target/max_memory_target).

    Further investigation suggests that the problem is with your 'default' policy, which is using BASIC_LEXER.  Recognition language uses the features of AUTO_LEXER, and it seems to be necessary to specify explicitly in your strategy:

    Try this instead:

    exec ctx_ddl.drop_preference('my_lexer')
    exec ctx_ddl.drop_policy('MY_POLICY')
    DECLARE
        x   ctx_doc.language_tab;
    BEGIN
        ctx_ddl.create_preference('my_lexer', 'AUTO_LEXER');
        ctx_ddl.create_policy('MY_POLICY', lexer=>'my_lexer');
        ctx_doc.policy_languages (    policy_name   => 'MY_POLICY',        document      => 'Good Morning all. Test Oracle 12c Text features',        restab        => x);
        dbms_output.put_line('x: ' || x(1).language || '-' || x(1).score);
    END;
    /

    This is certainly a bug, but this seems to work around the problem.

  • Memory alloaction

    Hello
    My question is about the allocation of memory in oracle.
    If the sysadmin says you can allocate 8 GB to Oracle, has the average sum of sga_target and pga_aggregate_target?

    Thank you very much

    Oracle instance consume more memory which has been attributed to it as such, actually it don't use the 8 GB of memory together all the time, but 8 GB is the maximum amount of memory that this oracle instance can use.

    Other programs like Oracle or Oracle Agent, listening process business management, etc. does not take into account oracle instance properties and can take their own share of available memory.

    As you have 16 GB of physical memory available, no need to worry about the memory usage, in fact I suggest you to increase the share of memory for instance Oracle to some 12 GB. Remember out of physical memory, you also SWAP memory available, and it does not matter for Oracle if it uses the physical memory or memory SWAP, having said that there is always some overhead involved in swaping the page in and out of the SECTORAL approach.

    Kind regards
    Maury

  • Satellite Pro M15-S405 blocks runnig the bars of memory

    My M15 is to have something wrong with the memory. When I try to run the two modules at the same time the computer has errors and crashes. I can swap the memory he mods 1-the time and the two seams to work fine alone, but when both are in the same mistakes and accidents...

    But the usahly of errors do not occur until it worked for 5-10 minutes when I install them. I think it's something to do with the slot B but I was wondering especially if I had to buy a single 512 MB module if I could run just that he buy se that it's all that I really need to be able to use the laptop. Or it will only cause more problems on the road?

    Also if theres anything anyone can think I might try short take in get expensive repairs I understand that as well.

    Hello

    Some time ago I updated my old M40 with the new 1024 MB module.
    The old 512 MB module has been inserted into A slot and the new module 1024 MB has been inserted in the slot B.

    After the upgrade, I got a different error messages and BSOD.
    This had never happen with only 512 MB module.

    I thought the new 1024Mo defective module. But then I changed the modules and inserted the 512 MB in the slot B and has 1024MB in the slot.
    It's a key. Since the switch of the laptop module works very well.

    Well, what I must tell you might try to check the memory using the freeware like Memorytest86. It can be downloaded for free.
    As mentioned above, you can also try to use both modules in different locations.

    But there is also a possibility that two modules may not work together because of compatibility issues.
    In this case the replacement might help. I advise to use 2 similar modules.

    Hello

    usually it shouldn´t be a problem to swap the memory module on your computer. Unfortunately there is no manual, but you can visit the following site for more information on this topic: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/

    In your case, you should only remove some of the cover from the bottom of the machine which is fixed with a screw, behind this fixed cover the Bank of memory where the memory modules are installed.

  • Load flashes 3 times (NO MEMORY)

    Ok.  I have 2 almost identical machines.  One is a Compaq CQ57-229WM and a HP 2000-2B19WM.  They share a large number of components such as batteries, chargers, memory, etc... It's the 2000 is Windows 8.0, it's hard enough for my elderly mother of 69 year to Win7 and IMPOSSIBLE for her to understand Win8 without touchscreen interface, so I went down there to Win7 and it worked fine... for a while.  He kept getting slower and slower and finally got the point of being useless.  I ordered a set of food DVD and he would give Win8, mother mine and use the 2000 myself.  I read the instructions, started how the flyer said, and he began to fix the system.  20 seconds, he froze and would not answer and finally turn off.  It was plugged, but I thought that the battery can have died and grabbed my Compaq battery (same reference by the way), put in there and nothing.  I thought nothing of it since I had been using my Compaq and it had been left unplugged for a few days and thought the battery on this subject was dead too.  I swapped batteries back, plugged in the Compaq and the a/c charging light came not.  I pressed the power button and the a/c flashed light 3 times and went.  I put the battery in the HP unit and you press the power button and the button itself barely (more than a quick "glow" than a flicker) flashes and a/c light flashes 3 times.  I swapped the memory on the Compaq with a new memory (since flash 3 code if for bad memory module) and nothing... still 3 flashes.

    Anyone want to try stabbed at it?  I think that the battery has lost his "condition memory", but which do I put a new battery in as they both do the same thing now?  AND if that is the case, how do I get the HP restore Win8 on it if all it's going to short-circuit batteries?

    The rental, it is set awhile with no battery solved the problem.
