My Dell Inspiron XPS gen 1 is still running great, but a large number of programs are me forced to update my video drivers to work, but Dell has not updated a single driver for him since 2005.   I use a 4 GB T400 and I try to free up memory by turning off switchable graphics in the bios change it to discrete graphics. and yet I still can't close a 3 GB memory on my 32-bit Windows 7. I saw in this forum they did but I can't seem able to get mine close to that. Is there anything else I can do!

  I reboot several times between onboard graphics and descrete graphics, to try and free the memory, but nothing is. Pls any1, is there anything I missed.

  First of all, make sure that your 5650 is active. You can tell that it is through small catalyst logo in the system tray, one that looks like a red atom.

  Bring up the Start Menu, type "Device Manager" in the search box and press ENTER.

  This should open the Device Manager. From here you will see a long list of devices, click the arrow next to 'display adapters '. Then right click "ATI Mobility Radeon 5650" and choose uninstall. Follow the dialog boxes to complete the installation

  This will remove the driver for the 5650, which should accomplish what you're looking for.

  The driver for laptop page also you a driver Intel graphics HD only, so it might be a good option to stability.

As a result of the latest updates, my video conversion software and other graphic software will not require work... and I get error messages telling me to upgrade my video card driver! I downloaded the current version of the driver 11.9 directly fom ATI, but it refuses to install and gives an error message saying contact manfacturer for help. Talk about a Catch 22!
