Symbol '%' search in Windows 7 Explorer

For the purposes of electronic filing I have to delete all the symbol % appearing in the names of files, because it could stop the routine, then the search function is really useful for me. I recently got Windows 7 and am no more able to successfully run this search. I tried with %, '%', ' * % * ' but I get a huge list of files where the % symbol is not actually contained...

Thank you.

Hi all

For anyone interested, I found the solution: just type

* % *. * in the Windows Explorer search. It should work.

Thank you, Steve

If you look in the correct folder, and use the correct file name, you would be able to find regedt32.exe:

There was formerly a difference between regedit.exe and regedt32.exe but since Windows XP, when you start regedt32.exe, it ends up running regedit.exe:

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/141377

So use either one you want, but whatever you choose, you're going to get regedit.exe.

Remember that there is no cancellation or exit without saving when you use the registry editor, so it is prudent to have a strategy that if you make a mistake and your system becomes unusable (not start) when you have done, you will have a way to cancel the changes.

You can use this popular tool costs to back up your registry:

And you can do a Manual Restore Point before starting:

  • Search using the Windows 7 Explorer

Successfully, I searched and found a file in my file system. But the search engine does not tell me where the file is located. How do I know where the file is located, so I'll know where it is (and possibly move it elsewhere) and won't have to search each time.

If you right-click on the file and click Properties on the menu that appears, you will see location information about a third of the way down on the box that appears.  You can also click on 'place to open the file' to get to the scene.  The search results window can also be customized with columns of information to your liking.  If you perform a search and then right click on any column heading, you can click to choose "folder path".  If you click on more at the bottom of the menu after right, you can choose from a long list of information.

When I click in the main search field, that I want to set the the bottom of box main search to the left of the screen but he rockets off.

It seems to be a limited selection of options that open up sometimes in blue under the search box which turns at the top of the right hand in Explorer can't see untial I put a word in the search box, sometimes just date arrives at other times can see other options such as the file.

Did not work what to do to access these options.

Reading on the advanced options, I see that I can type in the various symbols in the search.

Is that what someone has produced an add on make life easier when searching?

For example, I would first find the records to find files in folders by a specific word of the file type.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Hello

Thanks for posting the question in the Microsoft Community forums.

I see that you need to know more information on how to set-up an option of advanced search in Windows 7.

Let's see a few articles and see how it works.

Searching in Windows 7 can be as simple as typing a few letters in the search box, but there are also techniques of advanced search you can use. You don't have to know these techniques to search for your files, but they can be useful depending on where you are looking and what you are looking for.

  • How can I change my Windows Internet Explorer 9 to Windows Internet Explorer 8?

Replace Windows Internet Explorer 8.  I had a virus on my computer and ATT helped to remove.  But when they finish, they grew up Windows Internet Explorer 9.  I don't care for her and I really would like my Eplorer 8 return.  How can I get him back?

    Hello

    read below

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Internet-Explorer/help/IE-9/How-do-i-install-or-uninstall-Internet-Explorer-9

    To uninstall Internet Explorer

The following instructions apply to Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

    1. Click the button start , type programs and features in the search box and then click the display installed in the left pane updates.

    2. Under uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.

    3. Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9 and click on uninstall and then, when you are prompted, click Yes.

    4. Click one of the following:

      • Restart now (to complete the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer).

  • Can I change the default windows folder explore in the registry? No shortcuts fixed please.

How can I change the default folder, windows Explorer opens in just to run and type "explorer". I know that I could type in extra stuff, for example "explorer.exe C:\somedir\stuff\" but I prefer to be able to put it permanently in the registry so that when I type explorer.exe (no extra stuff) it should open where I want. Is this possible? What registry entry be? I do not use desktop shortcuts or shortcuts, start changing them, that's not what I'm looking for.

If it was going to be everywhere, so it would probably be somewhere in this multi key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer branches, but that the use of parameters on the end of the "shortcut" probably is used to send instructions from command line directly on the .exe, it is more likely it is that stored anything in the registry?

Many setup programs accept command line parameters yet Windows will have no knowledge of these programs, so that they are installed it is why I think that it would be futile in the search for a registry location?  I could be completely wrong of course and bow to the superior knowledge.

You could use an article like this one to make some changes and use the following (RegShot) program to see what has changed in the registry, if anything.

If you want to really dive in and get dirty, you could take a snapshot of your registry before you make the change and the other afterwards and see if you can pick up any changes.  This little freeware program can help you achieve this goal.

  • Windows 7 Explorer.exe unresponsive - Event ID 1000 (new construction)

    Hello

I have stability with Windows 7 Explorer.exe problems on my newly built PC.

Web browsers and Explorer.exe crash at startup or display the message "stopped responding" to the opening.
The Explorer.exe "not responding" issue has become less common, but I think it's perhaps related to the instability with web browsers.
I find no trigger that causes the crash, the PC is perfectly stable when left slowed or even during running scans.

It may not be relevant, but for a short period, I found that typing caused accidents. Opening IE11 and click on the links on the homepage has worked.

However the second I typed in the address bar or search IE11 would be "blocks".
During this time I could also cause explorer.exe crash by typing the search / in the start menu. Still manually by clicking programs and icons did not cause an accident. Still happen when using the virtual keyboard.
However, this is no past time, but the instability of web browser continues. Is a crash on startup (Firefox more than IE11) or "does not" after various periods of time.

    Test completed

    • SFC/scannow reveals no problem
    • No card graphics or other PCI devices are not connected (mother/ram/cpu only Board)
    • RAM has been tested on this PC & another known working PC & vice vera
    • Audit pilot Manager does not display any driver without a permit
    • 2009 fix for this issue is not relevant as input 'gas machine' is not in the registry
    • All the installed drivers are WHQL

I'd appreciate really any contributions to this number & it makes me crazy now. I can't believe I'm the only person having problems on a new installation.

It can help to see what modules are loading during accidents.

Click on one of the mistakes recent iexplore.exe.

Can you copy and paste the information that appears in the lower window that loaded modules.

  • Help? A matter of search for Windows 7...

I need to do a search for - only - hidden files or folders.  I know I can put Explorer "Show hidden files and folders", but it shows - all files, not just those with the hidden attribute.  I don't want to go through every file on my machine to pick them up.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

We cannot directly use Windows 7 search to generate a list of items with a specified attribute.  We can however in the command prompt.  Or, a third option is to use another software of research that is out there that allows searching by attribute.

If using Windows 7 search, search using other properties you want, and then set the results window to display the named attributes column.  (You can specify the columns of information appear - just right-click on any column title to display a menu, then click more... for a list.)  Move the pointer of the mouse on the title attributes column and button click the arrow that appears to the right of the title.  Click to put check marks in the boxes to the left of the desired attributes and combinations of attributes in the list of choices that appears.

Alternatively, with search for Windows 7, you can search with the attributes property, but oddly only by a numeric code that represents the sum of all the attributes of a file could have.  Looking for attributes: 2 will give you all the files that have the hidden only attribute and no other attributes, but because the files can have several attributes, there are numerous possible different amounts you would search too so it isn't practical.

With a command prompt window, you can navigate the directory (folder or disk) that you want to search in (if you are familiar with the tricks of MS-DOS) and enter:

    dir / a: h/s/b > results.txt

to create a file named results.txt in the current directory.  Leave aside the/s if you do not want the included subdirectories in the search.  Leave aside the/b (naked format) If you want to see the date, time, size and the information summarized for each file.

Other software from research that can search by specified attribute includes:
