Windows XP Explorer - right pane is not expanding

I've lost my ability recently to view the structure of the folder tree in the right pane of Windows Explorer.  When I click on a folder in the right pane it automatically brings up the file of the search folder window.  How can I go back by clicking a folder in my right pane window and have it show the files in the folder?

Hello

-Does this problem occur when you double-click the folder?

-Did you change on your computer before this problem?

Here is an article that could be useful to solve the problem:

  • Windows 7 Explorer function search does not work / command prompt

    Hello

I searched several messages, but unfortunately have not yet found a solution that worked. My problem: windows Explorer 7 does not at all. This means that type any word in the search box in the upper right corner makes no difference / nothing happens.

I tried solving the problems, I tried to get into safe mode, nothing works. I re-indexed my computer, no effect.

During playback I do a scan with SFC/scannow, I discovered that box "search programs and files" in the lower left corner does not work either. Everything I type, makes the window completely off and if I click on see the results I get the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. May not permissions to access you the item', even if I am the owner / administrator of my computer.

Starting from the command-line using SFC/scannow gives the message "you must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc function. This is why I can't use the trick to create another user.

The search function used to work properly until I had an infection by the virus. I've scanned my computer several times with different antivirus scanners, and nothing is found. I assume that the damage has been done at this time there and would like to know what I can do to fix it (I also have problems with other software, Word for example, works well, but guess that's all the.). I don't want to install a third party software to do research like I want my good computer work with the software that came installed when I bought it.

    Thanks in advance, Hubert

I found the solution elsewhere (not microsoft site), which worked instantly:

    Navigate to this folder,
    c:\Users\Your name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\1033\
    And delete the file StructuredQuerySchema.bin

    Therefore, the search worked well.

  • Windows XP - Explorer runs constantly - could not delete Explorer. The CPU runs at around 70%, constantly.

Computer is very slow. Repeatdly scanned for malware, Trojans and other horses. Now clean, but Internet Explorer works constantly, occupy the CPU at 70-100%. Tried to remove Internet Explorer. Cannot remove. Still works very slow computer socket. In addition, cannot defragment.

Thanks for trying to answer.  I used Norton scan. Not sure, malicious software, but the system is now clean. The Explorer is still running the CPU at @ 70%. With nothing else open but the Manager of the tasks, the CPU still works. I thought that if I deleted the program explore it would interrupt the CPU of the race. The processor is running, and make the unit run very slowly.   Jay

    I'm still not, Jay.
What do you mean by "delete"? Files can be deleted. But programs must usually be uninstalled, which is a different process.
Also, you seem to be confusing the following three terms:
Windows Explorer (which, as Brandon2003 pointed out) allows you to navigate your file system. When you open a folder (such as My Documents), you use Windows Explorer. In the Task Manager, it appears as explorer.exe.
Internet Explorer allows you to surf on Web pages. In the Task Manager, it appears as iexplore.exe (and probably several instances of what appears there).
The Explorer - I don't really know what it is!
Both Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer are part of Windows XP. And even if you wanted to delete either, it would be impossible! Of course, you can choose to run an another browser like Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc instead.
I'm positive, that you still have malware.
    Certainly, you must run aswMBR:

You must also perform scans with free versions of Scanner Portable SAS and MBAM.

  • DoubleClick the Explorer's right pane always opens a new window instead of in the existing window + fix possible!

    Boredom:
In the right pane of file, if you double-click a folder it opens in a new window instead in this window.
It appeared after I installed IE8 and / or play a bit with my startmenu options, but I can't tell if they are really the reason.
All these tips on 'options records' fail miserably in my case.

Here is the real solution for my case:
    Open regedit.
    Navigate to:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\explore\command]
The default value has been set to:
    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /separate,/e,/idlist,%I,%L

    I changed it to:
    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,/idlist,%I,%L

and then explorer.exe behaved as expected.

Do not mix with the folder option always "open in a separate process", that everywhere else in the registry.

What makes it even more strange, in some cases, you can change it again to:
    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /separate,/e,/idlist,%I,%L

and the behavior remains as it should.

  • Opening the files in the right pane of Windows Explorer

For the last two weeks, when I double click on a folder in the right pane of Windows Explorer, a video look at an application tries to load the file instead of just opening the folder.  I looked at the files Types tab in the tools, Options menu, without a bit of luck and I watched the application tries to load and find nothing has.  I think it started after an automatic Windows Update (although I have that turned off, it still works, of course).

To see what is going to happen, I uninstalled the video look at an application to ensure that nothing in putting in place this program which has been the problem and now a Windows Search window opens when you double-click on any given folder!

Any ideas on how to prevent this?

  • Game type "not specified" remove the Windows 7 Explorer game.

I've seen several forums around this subject, but none of them does not solve my problem.  I have a file in my Games Explorer classified as a type of file "not specified."  I went through several records, including "C:/users / AppData/local/Microsoft/Windows/Game Explorer' and 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer' that do not contain the file I want to delete.  Nothing comes up when I right click on icon, either.

I found a forum with a link which has been said to have the solution, but the page just says "Service unavailable" page was:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/42496-Games-Explorer-folder-delete-game.html

If anyone happens to recognize this URL, it would be great if you could tell me what he said, except that I'm open to suggestions on other ways to get rid of this icon.

System Restore solved the problem, I just had to try several times until I got just restore point where the icon has disappeared, but it didn't remove all the others either.  Now the icons under the tabs of Internet Explore are all screwed up (icons wrong showing upwards to the wrong sites), but I suspect that will disappear in time, otherwise I can reinstall IE.

For those of you who read this message and to use steam, never, NEVER put a shortcut to one of the steam games in the Games Explorer. It won't work, it will take place.

  • WRT1900AC - devices shown on the network map is not all visible in Windows 7 Explorer

I just bought the router 1900AC as substitute of plugin for my previous WRT54GL router using DD - WRT.

Each of the Linksys routers is configured for an IP 192.168.2.1 and each is configured to assign the device of intellectual property within this subnet.

Each router works (not at the same time of course) when it is attached as a secondary router behind my Telus ActionTec V1000H DSL Modem/Router.  All my LAN devices with Gb ports are now much faster.  Internet speeds are tremendous.

However, with the new 1900AC, my PC under Windows 7 router only see each other in the network of Windows Explorer pane.  In the content pane, I see my two Western Digital MyBookLive and my printer HP Laserjet devices, as well as media devices on my network.  But if I try to access a file (such as Notepad) and I select the network node, only the other PC appears in the list.

The network of the 1900AC map shows all devices without any problem.

The old WRT54GL router has also had no problem display all network devices.

Can anyone suggest how I can do all the devices visible to my Windows 7 Explorer?

WD (MyBookLive and MyBookLiveDuo) devices are connected to the ethernet ports.  Tablets connected via radio (a 2.4 Mhz and the other double 2.4 / 5.0 Mhz).

After rally for second level support technology of LinkSys and waiting for their call, I saw what I knew, and since all devices appeared in the plan of network from the router, but not in Windows 7 is the router, or my windows firewall should block devices.

My McAfee control center using I dropped the firewall and refreshed the Win7 network view - and all of a sudden all of the appliances were visible.  Problem solved.

Then, I entered a new rule of connectivity that disable the firewall for all devices in the range * 198.162.2, introduced the firewall to the top and then restarted my PC.  All devices have remained visible after restart.

Since each Windows PC has its own firewall, I repeated the process for my second PC.

I have concluded that when Windows 7 sees a new router assigns a new network name and the network name does NOT inherit from the previous router settings - even if the routers have identical IP addresses and assign IPs client on the same subnet.

For the benefit of third parties, if the router sees your devices but your windows PC does not work, drop your firewall and refresh your network view.  If the devices will be displayed, you must configure your firewall to let all devices in your same subnet.  This should apply to any firewall on any version of windows, I suspect.

So far, I noticed only these problems that make me very difficult to work. The main problem is that I'm not in a situation to format my laptop. Please help me with these problems.

    Hello

Restart in safe mode and run the antivirus scans here. You have symptoms of an infected machine. Scanning in safe mode will reduce efforts of the virus to avoid detection.

To restart in safe mode, restart normally, and when the system resets you can press the F8 key. It is point immediately after the screen logo POST or manufacturer initial of the system, and just before Windows starts to load. This will give you a boot menu where you can choose Safe mode.

While you're here, you must also download and run the tool free malwarebytes here:http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (choose Safe mode with networking to do this). He can catch something that lack of MSE, no security tool is perfect.

    Hello

Sorry we don't communicate via this forum.

You need a real antivirus because these are the two antispyware. You have the PCtools antivirus
on the computer or just their toolbar in Internet Explorer?

    -------------------------------------------------

If there is no antivirus on the computer here is what I use and recommend (except for one
program like Prevx, you don't want more than one antivirus on the computer program
much less running because they interfere with each other and lower security). Each combination
of her below you will warn of malware without toolbar from PCtools running online.

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are alll free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
    Operation of the network.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 5.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 5.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • The single Win Explorer Navigation pane click on the name of the folder to expand the subfolders

In Win XP, you can even click on the folder name to develop the next level of subfolders.

In Win 7, it takes a double-click and the > is difficult to achieve.

What a pain.  How can get fixed?

Other than replacing by another file manager.

    Hello

I understand that you are facing difficulties during the expansion of the subfolders on the Windows Explorer Navigation pane. I understand the inconvenience.

You must expand the tree first and then do the following.

    1. open WindowsExplorer.

    2. expand and click on Tools folder options -->

3 in the navigation pane, select the check box to display all records and extend automatically to the current foldedr and click ok.

You can also follow the steps in the article.

  • Cannot right click Windows 7 Explorer of files to generate the copy of the file names in a Notepad or Excel-compatible file. HELP REQUESTED!

I struggled for several hours to restore the service right click that I used to have XP to Windows 7.  I need to save lists of file names such as displayed in the file Explorer. Allowing you to right-click and save files in Notepad. This option has been removed in Windows 7 and anything put in place to restore it.

I have lists of items in the inventory and need to copy and paste the image corresponding to a transfer sheet to allow the server names to match images in article SKU.  The file names are long and typing is a complete waste of time.

I used to be able to find them in the Windows Explorer, right-click on the directory and generate a txt file that I could open in Notepad or Excel.  -Easy.  Now right-click only allows an export in an uneditable image in ONE NOTE. This is useless for me. I can't do anything with an image file - I need the editable data.

Is there a solution?  I need only the file name and extension, not the full path, in a text or spreadsheet document propagation.

I had used the Microsoft solution to install their dose without knowing the final format was a NOTE image file format and not a simple txt file. I try now too write the batch file:

    %windir%\Printdir.bat

or edit it in order to keep the file in Notepad and do not make the final conversion into a single Note.

The problem is that the fix from Microsoft, designed to fix this problem, has placed the conversion file in the root directory and it cannot be overwritten.  I refused the possibility to delete, edit or write the file due to the requirements of administrative privilege mandated by the security of Windows 7 too much.

So if anyone has a solution to every problem - that would help - I am very tired and frustrated and not happy with Microsoft.  Their zealous concern with security made their unnecessary programs for me and have further discouraged me to convert to the windows 10. frustrations and nightmares are waiting for me there I can't imagine.  What I really want to do at this point is to go back to XP.

He ate five hours of my day. I don't have the time to fight like that. I am trying to be productive, but all I got are monumental technical walls and roadblocks - often designed into the system. Frustrating doesn't begin to describe it.

Found a solution on a Web site:

    http://www.watchingthenet.com/how-to-print-a-directory-tree-from-Windows-Explorer.html

They said it was for VISTA, but worked for me under Windows 7. You will need to use Notepad to the command prompt and select run as administrator to save the file in the root directory.

    Thanks for the help.

    Cheers.

Once I changed I could boot from the cd and fix corrupted files.
