System event notification services error

A couple of weeks, I started getting a message at startup in VISTA. The message appears in the lower right. It is said:
Unable to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Services service. This problem prevents the limited number of users logging on to the system. As an administrator user, you can view the system event log to see why the service failed.  But couldn't find anything; where should I look?

Linda Schillemore,

To open Event Viewer for more details on this error do the following:

Click the Start button. In the Search box, type Event Viewer, and then in the list of results, double-click Event Viewer.

To determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

  1. Click Startand type cmd in the box start the search .
  2. Right-click cmd in the programs list and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue
  3. To order invites, the following line and press ENTER: sfc/scannow

When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

If this does not resolve the problem, you can use the System Restore tool. Using this tool, you can restore the computer to an earlier point in time.

The tool using System Restore may not necessarily help you determine the problem. The System Restore tool uses points of restore to return the system files and settings to an earlier point in time. You can use it to restore the operating system to a point in time where you have not experienced the problem. When you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, the programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, type System Restore in the Search box, and then click System Restore in the list of programs . If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue.
  2. In the System Restore dialog box, click choose a different restore point, and then click Next.
  3. In the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.
  4. Click Finish.

The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

Let us know your result, thank you.

However, I would be grateful if you could answer a few questions to refine the question in order to provide you with better assistance.

    1. do you have this problem start recently? If so, remember to make changes to the system before this problem?

    2. do you use a third-party antivirus on your computer application?

    3. What is the brand and model of the computer?

In the meantime, I suggest you try running the DISM Deployment Image Servicing and Management to correct the corruption of the Windows system files.

To do this, follow these steps:

    a. press on key Windows + X key on the keyboard, the task list opens.

    b. click on (Admin) command prompt.

    c. at the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line:

    You have two options:

    • Perform a factory restore. Check the homepage of the manufacturer for instructions.
    • Start the computer with your Windows XP installation CD, and then follow the prompts. You will have to find the different drivers to match your hardware, for example a driver for SATA hard drive.
