System on Pavilion dv9743cl recovery - so it will clear the second hard drive?

Hi guys. I have a HP Pavilion dv9743cl and it has 2 separate hard drives. I intend to use the system restore to reformat and reinstall Vista, and I was concerned that it would wipe out the second disc as well.

I looked on the forums, and some posts said that there is a recovery of the system or with Reset option. I do not have this option; I only have the system recovery. Do you know if the rail with it reformatted my second drive? Thank you very much!

Disconnect the 2nd drive.

    Hello

You need two cables, one is a sata cable:

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/30305659/706331346/STARTech-com-6in-SATA-to-right-angle-SATA-serial-ATA-cable-female-SATA-female-SATA-6-inch-red/ListingDetails.html?_%24JA=TSID:13315% 7Ccat: 30305659% 7Cprd: 30305659 & kw = {keyword}

This cable is only for data and connect the hard drive to the SATA connector on the motherboard.

    The other cable is energy:

    http://www.itpartsdirect.com/STARTech-15-24cm-4-pin-Molex-to-SATA-power-cable-adaptor.html

It connects the hard drive to the PSU.

You can also buy a combo like this cable:

    http://www.Amazon.co.UK/DP/B00064GBT4/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9550951989&ref=asc_df_B00064GBT4

All you have to do is to connect the hard drive and that's it. Make sure that the main drive with the operating system is connected to the primary SATA connector (I think there are the numbers 1, 2, 3...)

    Hello

    Try the following.

Judgment of the laptop and unplug the 2nd HARD drive.

Robinet tap away at the key esc that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, and then select f10 to open the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the default values (sometimes it's f9, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER.  Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.

When windows has reloaded, download and reinstall the Chipset driver at the following link.

    Chipset Driver - Windows 7.

When this is finished, stop the laptop.

Reconnect the 2nd HARD drive, then start Notepad and let Windows take over completely for a few minutes before checking if the reader appears in the lower part of the disk management window.

  • Add the second hard drive to a desktop Pc HP Pavilion P6-2100

I want to add a second hard drive to a HP Pavilion A1700n Pc desktop to a new HP Pavilion P6-2100 Desktop Pc, so I can transfer files.

    milehisb,

Welcome on the user forums.  Section manuals PDF from HP did not offer a guide to upgrade and Service.

There are several options, depending on your needs and your expertise with the internal components of a computer.

If you goal is to simply get the data off the drive, then put it back in the A1700n, I would use #1.

    (1) use this external adapter for occasional use:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002

    (2) first search to find if you have a spare Sata power plug. Or you will need an adapter (molex 4pin to Sata).

As the player in question is VIsta, it does not start correctly and could delay the start of WIN7.

  • HP Pavilion 510n - adding the Second hard drive?

    A few questions...

    1. is there a size limit for any player second, I would like to add?

    2. What is the procedure for adding the second disc?

-J' added a second drive to an OLD pc before and it involved linking the second slot on an IDE cable, change the jumper on the slave drive settings, and modify the bios settings... it would be similar?

Hello TSobiech, it is always best to ask to order a part that is not compatible with a certain system.

The hard disk that you show the link should work perfectly. Even if it's an ATA100, and your system supports ATA33/66, this disc should still work but will be downclocked to ATA66 speed.

Here is another link to a 250 GB IDE HDD if you might be interested.

You won't notice much, if any, degradation in performance to the difference in speed. These IDE drives are higher than the price a SATA with the same capacity, but they are becoming harder to find.

Since you want to be using as operating in car system, but just a backup drive, they want to make a difference.

If you want to make use of the full speed of ATA100, you could add a map of IDE controller supporting ATA100, but I really don't think it would.

Since you mentioned the intermediate layer of IDE as not being used, you can connect the new drive to this connector.

Now, there are a few things that you should check that you install the new hard drive. These are the connectors of jumper on hard drives.

This is the very small plastic with metal inserts, at the end of the hard drive where are the other connectors.

I always use the CSEL (CS) on two hard drives. Readers may already have jumpers to this setting (jumpers connection), but if not, you must set two hard drives the selection of cables (CS).

Since the current IDE hard drive is the boot hard drive and an ATA66, it must be connected to thin ribbon cable connector, as it is now, and the new hard drive attached to the middle connector IDE. The slowest speed of the two hard drives will result in two hard drives running at the slower of the two speeds. It will work very well.

You need to partition and format the new hard disk before it can be used. This can be done from Windows if necessary.

    I hope this helps.

  • Add the second hard drive for HP Pavilion dv7-3173nr

So rumor is my DV7 may take a second hard drive.

So I got a second drive, open the bottom where the reader will, and there is no SATA connector. Apparently I need a shopping cart or something, but I can't. Am I missing something obvious?

    Thank you.

Yes you need a shopping cart and a connector. The interface is not a standard SATA plug... There is a cable that connects the SATA drive in a small plug in the second Bay.

  • Possible to install the second hard drive in the p6110f Pavilion

Is it possible to install a second hard drive, 1 TB Seagate, in the expansion on my Pavillion p6110f slot?

    Hello

Your PC has a hard drive cage which will host two disks.  This how-to - HP document from removing a hard drive will show you the process to remove the hard drive cage.

If you want to continue using the Expansion Bay then you will need a 5.25 "to 3.5" adapter support. NewEgg.com would bring such a support.  You also need a SATA data cable.  This how-to - HP article will give you an idea on how to use Expansion with a 5.25 device Bay ".  Check by the optical drinve for a spare SATA power connector.  If it is not available, then you will need to use a SATA power splitter.

My laptop has a space for a second hard drive, but not of connectors. I use Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and I would like to add a second drive in this niche. My main drive is 1 TB and I'm running out of room. I am currently using a 1 to external but it is cumbersome when you travel. What should I do to use the second drive?

  • Dimension E310 will identify the 2nd HARD drive

I am trying to add a 2nd HARD drive on my Dimension E310 (WinXP Media Center Edition 2005) without success.  I bought a naked WD10EZEX and 1.0 TB SATA cable and have physically installed the drive and connected the power cable from Garland.  SATA data cable is connected to the SATA-2 port.  When I go into the BIOS settings, the original boot drive 80 GB is recognized but the second disc of 1.0 TB is not.  I turned on the port, but the disc ID says 'unknown '.  If I spend two readers autour, the first hard disk (CT 1.0) is recognized but the second disc (the original 80 GB) drive ID: unknown.  BIOS is version A03 (08/10/05).  What I am doing wrong or do I not have a defective SATA-2 port?

Hi, Osprey4.  Thanks for your suggestions.  I tried to connect just one drive at a time for the second SATA port, leaving the first open port and got the same results.  No disc has been recognized.  I chose to not reset the CMOS.  It seems the second port does not work.  I can accept and manage with just one port I have available with the larger HARD drive.

Thanks again for your support.  I'll mark this thread as "resolved".

  • Recovery of XP Will format the HARD drive

    Hello

I had a virus problem, which is now resolved, but has damaged my Windows XP. Can I reload Windows XP from the recovery disk with on the reformatting of the hard drive?

If you have an older recovery CD which contains the standard mode and expert mode, then you should be able to choose a partition where the OS could be installed.
For example; If you have 2 C and D partitions, you can install the OS on the C partition using EXPERT MODE.
In this case only the C partition will be formatted.

But if you have a more recent recovery called RECO then you CD can't do.
In this case the use of the recovery CD will format the whole HARD drive

  • With the help of recovery on the new hard drive disks

    Hello

I have an old t160.uk of Pavilion.  The hard disk starts to sound a bit grumpy.  I have a spare I want to replace it with.  Can I create recovery discs using the partition, and then replace the hard drive and reinstall windows xp on the new drive? or the recovery disks only works on the original hard drive?

    See you soon,.

Hirroshi wrote: what determines if the new hard drive will be compatible with the recovery disk?  Could I connect the new hard drive in another Bay and try to use the recovery disk, before removing my old hard drive?

Hello Hirroshi, it seems that drives hard very little HP only work in an HP computer, or so I said. I think it has to do with some code that HP puts in the Master Boot Record, but that's just a guess. I read on the Forum that this is the case.

I suggest that you delete the partition on the replacement hard drive, and then create a new partition and format the hard drive. You should be able to use the recovery disk, if they are not damaged and that you have a valid burn.

You can try to install the replacement hard drive in the system you propose, and it can work very well. It's certainly worth a try.

Here is a link that shows how to perform a recovery facility when a hard drive is replaced.
