  • T440: m.2 speed NGFF SSD does not as expected

    Hello world

I bought the 128 GB model of the MyDigitalSSD Super Cache 2 (see here). Write speeds are as expected, about 170 - 190 MB/s. However, the playback speed is capped at 270 MB/s, although it should reach well above 400 MB/s. It is confusing to me. I installed the SSD m.2 in the same location where the original cache my T440 (16 GB, SanDisk) module has been installed. "My disk info' indicates that the drive works in mode ' Serial ATA/600", as I figured first it can be flown just SATA/300, and therefore it would make sense that the playback speed is capped at "."< 300="" mb/s.="" but="" this="" doesn't="" seem="" to="" be="" the="">

Is that what I can do to improve performance?

    See you soon!

SOLUTION: Install the SSD drive in slot m2 next to one that contains the WIFI module. It will be free if you order the module WWAN / 3G. But it supports SATA III, while the slot under the battery is apparently not. In this regard, I am puzzled why Lenovo installed the module cache SATA original there.

  • T440s kills 840 Samsung SSD pro

    Hi all

I have a T440s new, bought with HARD drive. That I wanted to use a reliable SSD, I bought a Samsung 840 pro, I already running in another system. That's when the problems started. In a German Forum several users report similar problems, so I just wanted to give a summary here, so that perhaps the international community can help. I consider myself as being an experienced user, built the various PC systems in recent years and currently have a desktop running with Samsung 840 pro system. Here are the details:

I installed Windows 8.1 (several times, first clone HARD drive and later after recurring problems, clean full install win DVDs of 8.1), value UEFI Bios only + Intel Quick start disabled before installation.

The question now is with the SSD I get constant HDD (visible in EventViewer) mistakes, while usually after a few hours of operation, the operating system is damaged to the point that it cannot start more. I should mention that the same system is running stable with the original HARD disk. First I thought that it is a faulty SSD and I replaced it by Samsung. However, with the new SSD replaced I am facing the same problems. Earlier this year, I have corrected a problem on a desktop with 840 pro where symptoms were similar. In the case of a desktop system, the issue could be fixed by replacing the SATA cable (which is obviously not an option on the T440s).

And Yes, I use the latest firmware SSD, the BIOS update, the drivers of Lenovo. Now, the problem is that I do not seem to be the only one with these problems. Other users in similar problems Thinkpad German forum report not only on Windows systems, but also on Linux installations (we even got the motherboard replaced by Lenovo and yet, it does not solve the problem).

I contacted Lenovo support and they told me that they support only of original Lenovo SSD. I must say that I am really disappointed that my new system from a renowned manufacturer constantly does not work with one of the most widely used SSD. Currently, some users in the report of the German forum they have better luck with Samsung EVO SSD. However, after this experience, I really lost confidence in the T440s. If the design should have problems with Sata 3, I don't know if I can trust this laptop in a business environment.

    Comments/suggestions very welcome.

    Kind regards

    Frank

  • SSD in T440/T440s models

What are the SSD models used in T440/T440s? I see that the options are:

    1. 128 GB SSD
    2. 180GB SSD Opal
    3. EDrive SSD 256Go
    4. 240GB SSD Opal
    5. 512 GB SSD

I would be grateful if someone could list the specific brands/models for each SSD option.

Also, it would be good to know any mounted DIY SSD suggestions that could be better (more functional or better value).

You can find the info you need here:

    T440s BOM

Note that disks are largely the OEM versions, so you cannot recognize the patterns. Liteon = Plextor and PM841 = Samsung 840 TLC. The Intels 'Sierra Star' are Pro 1500 years

  • Can T440s accept an SSD and a HD at the same time?

I am owner of a T440s that comes with a 258 GB SSD hard drive, and I was wondering if it is possible to add extra space as a 1 TB HD drive?

    Avner.

    Hello.

Yes, you can have a SSD/HD configuration in the T440s, but only with an SSD of m2 for OS + data storage HD players into the main slot in HD, but not 2 x 2.5 ".

  • T440s cannot boot from SSD m2?

Hello guys, I have configured my t440s with a 1 t HARD drive.

I just installed the 128g m2 SSD and intend to install the system on the SSD and use storage HARD drive.

However, I've hit trouble during the installation of the system.

I did a restore system USB and booted from that drive. There is no way to select which drive to install. So I called Lenovo. Technical support, said that the recovery image will automatically install on the main 2.5 inch HDD.

Fine, I disconnected the HARD drive and hoping the recovery USB will be smart enough to install the system on my SSD m2.
It worked, sort of. When I reboot the system of my main 2.5 inches 1 to HDD, I can see that the installation is complete. Program Files... BLABLABLA all of them are in the SSD m2.

However, the laptop can NOT boot from SSD. I can see the ssd in the startup list, but it does not start.

I put the boot to legacy mode.
    I did something wrong?
    Thank you guys!

This will work, but not from the recovery. You need to install a Linux distribution and do a clean install of Win7/8. If you opt for a clean installation, do not forget everything first to download the drivers for network (ethernet/wlan/wwan) from the lenovo website.

NB: I have a T440p with a m2-128 GB-mydigitalssd as the boot device, and the SSD installed sata factory as the storage data. The SSD of m2 is recognized as the second disc. In this respect. There a big difference between the T440s and the T440p in this regard.

  • Install an SSD on a t440 ultrabook

    Hey guys.

I've never had a before lenovo and I never upgraded to a hard drive on a laptop computer. I built jobs well. I ordered a t440 ultrabook. It will come in a few weeks. It has a default hd and I want to buy a sata III ssd drive to replace. I wanted to know how to install it.

    I found this:

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?docid=PD028989

But he has all these extra pages and I'm really confused. I don't know if it involves the removal of the keyboard or just remove a cover at the back.

Someone at - it a little luck with that?

  • T440s Kingston SSD not detected

Hi, I recently got a T440s and I wanted to replace the hard drive with the SSD to my old laptop, and it is not detected at startup. It works very well in my e420s.

    The SSD is a Kingston V + 200 240 GB. It is 7mm.

When I turn the Diagnostic boot in the BIOS, I get the following error message:

PXE - E61: Media Test Failure, check cable

PXE - M0F: Exit Intel Boot Agent.

It seems that there is a problem with the connector? The SSD in the computer can actually squirm around (just a little)<1mm), it="" seems="" like="" it="" shouldn't="" do="">

    Any ideas?

Well looks of I simply installed it wrong, I was just put into place inside the machine and not actually putting the connector, by confusing a little how it fits but I feel quite stupid. Everything works great!

  • ThinkPad T440s - updating windows 10

I have a T440s that has been upgraded to windows 10 about 6 months ago. After you have installed a new brother printer yesterday, the machine unbootable. It goes just to repair auto, then diagnosis, nor necessary. I tried several system restore points, but sr always fails saying it cannot copy the registry.

I ran the diagnostics of lenovo equipment that breaks down in the reading test targeted the HDD with bad sectors. I backup all the data (which is on the SSD drive?) manually from the command prompt cli (which still works) before doing anything else. next planned step is to run the bad sectors). I wonder if bad sectors are where the registry (or its backup) is stored, and if so, then 'fix' the bad sectors will destroy the registry up to the point where I have to do a refresh.

This is the first time that I am dealing with a system with a drive hybrid ssd (for startup & os hd for storage. given that it was originally a machine 8.1 will be running the windows update back 10 windows, and if so, he'll know where to write the files of bone regenerated to the ssd and hd?)

Edit * I forgot to mention that the s.m.a.r.t said diagnostics portion the drive is fine. ***

    any suggestions appreciated.

I do not know what causes these things, but ultimately, I decided (since I had a full backup of the data) run the bad sector thinkpad. He fixed the bad sectors, managed to recover enough of what was stored there so I could run the system restore, and now the phone works again.

    who knows?

  • Hibernation has never worked on T440s

Of the last 12 months, I studied the problem of hibernation does not under Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 on my T440s. I'm only running Windos last 10 home now with 12 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD Samsung. I played a bit with all the obvious features, such as hibernation file size increased to 100% and all BIOS related parameters.

I would like some advice from someone who has solved this riddle.

    Kind regards

    Jacco

I decided to do something I wanted to do for some time: a new installation of Windows 10.

The problem is now solved, thanks for your help richk!

  • Windows 8.1 T440s serial number

    Hello

My T440s happens tomorrow, I want to do a clean Windows installation, as I don't really like the scum that equipped with laptops. So I'll format the disc and the partion it for windows and lunix (the reader is 180 GB ssd). My question is, where can I find the serial number of windows original for the laptop? And, I'll be able to use it with a clean install of windows?

Good day and welcome to the community.

The first recommendation is to create a recovery media for inside installation OEM original, prior to any major reconfiguration of the road.

Your license key Win8x is integrated into your system UEFI BIOS. You should be able to "clean" install the same version (std STD) or, pro to pro and have the key picked up automatically.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards.

  • T440s: Cannot set disk password in Bios

I got a new T440s with a 256 gb SSD by Samsung. I would like to put a HDD password in the bios. But the menu item "Password hard drive x" does not appear on the page of the security-> password bios. All the other 'Material-password manager' menu items for "Power On Password" will appear.

Does anyone have the same problem? Is there another way to set the hard drive password?

  • T440s upgrade to 8.1 Windows?

Hi, I wonder what users experience has been upgraded to Windows (from windows 8 stocks) on the ThinkPad T440s 8.1? I've read a lot of comments with people saying that the upgrade is not going so well, and subsequent issues with drivers, not working do not correctly, etc. If you had a smooth improved Windows 8 to 8.1 Please let us know! Thank you

Hi, I have a version with SSD 256 GB and FHD Multitouch. The upgrade was smooth as silk, no problem. All devices have been found, the only message from the equipment manager was an enumerator of IWD Bus disabled. This was resolved by updating the graphics driver on the Intel site (drivers Lenovo section is slightly behind).

I've updated all Lenovo utilities, some of them are useful. There was some bloatware to get rid of, but nothing major.

Generally, initailly I thought I wouldn't be able to live with Win8. 2 weeks later, I'm on Win8.1, in a multi-screen configuration, and I see is no longer a downgrade to Windows 7 it's a good thing I guess.

The only complaint I have on the machine's display (of course it isn't windows 8.1 Associates). The backlight bleeding is absolutely terrible, never seen anything like this. Fortunately, I use it for work, but if I wanted to know a movie in full screen, dark scenes would be barely watchable.

  • Carbon x 2/3 vs T440s

I'm debating on 2 machines for, X 1 discount Haswell of carbon that was scheduled to arrive next month (carbon X 3 code name, I think that) or the T440s. If you put the 2 side by side, with the same exact features (IE, 4th gen i7 / 8gigs of ram / 256 SSD), that it would be better in terms of overall life performance, speed, reliability, durability and battery?

for the same CPU and GPU performance is the same. But the T440s can have more ram, and there are two batteries (internal and external to the other).

Performance wise they should be the same if you have the same specification.

But reliability, durability, and wise servicability, the T440s would be better due to the fact that T440s gets several materials of structure.
