T530 vs W530

In short, I am a CPA and use Excel, as well as a bunch of tax programs. The question I have now with my W500 (3.5 years), is that it cannot deal with 100 k - 400 k + lines of data in Excel, I deal with on a daily basis. I love to run PivotTables and other functions on large data sets, but my laptop current Excel takes a minute to get the calculations. Now that I can improve, I was considering a T530 or a W530. I like a nice dynamic screen, my eyesight is not what it was. Previously, I was considering a W530 with 8-16 GB of RAM, SSD and an i7 Quad Core processor. Not sure about the HD + vs FHD screen. The price is bit high, since my budget is about $2 k and I need to also buy Win 7 Ultimate, I need the BitLocker encryption software. Also, I like the WIMAX feature on my current model, but do not see that as an option on the W530. Am I missing something? In my case, what do you suggest? I am very grateful for any input! Thank you!

JDay thanks. Good advice. You probably saved me several hundred dollars!

  • * RESPONSE * T530 vs W530 pre-sale advice?

    Need to inform/pre-sale information. By comparing the T & W 530. My main use would be to update so my requirements are an i7 (3720QM) and support for 32 GB of RAM. In comparing the two, the only difference I see is the video card options. Not a big deal for me, I'm sure the T530 will play still Quake, Unreal, Flightgear, etc... Audio is different, but not a deal maker/breaker. I do not plan on using more then two monitors, now one. Internally & externally they look identical, ports, hinges, etc... Are there major differences between the two that I forget? Any other model I should consider?

    @bdk907,.

    T530, W530 share the same parts.

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?docid=PD024401

    The only difference is the GPU, CPU i7 and also color calibrator X-Rite for the W530 extreme.

  • Weight and size T530 vs W530

    Is the lighter and smaller than the W530 T530? I have the W510 of work, and it is quite large and heavy. Too heavy to hold back comfortably in a bag or to use on a plane, in my opinion.

    The {T, W} {510,520,530} should be almost, if not, exactly the same dimensions. Expect performance models senior to have a little heavier radiators, but.

    FWIW, I carry my W520 in my bag (without a handle, no case, no Pocket dedicated) with no complaints. Adding the 170W block of the adapter is not very visible either.

  • Lenovo T530 W530 conversion

    Hi all!

    I'm moving a T530 a W530, I the extra current required (radiator, software service to define product codes and serial numbers, etc.), parts can be like having a T520 upgraded a W520.

    There are 3 motherboards that I'm able to get.

    04 x 1511 - PL Q1 W8 - PRO yAMTyTPM

    04 x 1531 - Pln Q3 AMTC-Y Y - TPM RAID

    04 x 1537 - PL Q3 W8 - PROyAMTyTPM RAID

    The prospect of the RAID is obviously tempting, however the graphics options are the most important factor for me and I am unable to find additional information on the above tips.

    All boards have the dedicated nvidia graphic card, but don't know which. Either the K1000M or the K2000M, I'm after the latter.

    Any help is very appreciated!

    The lists of spare parts for the models have changed format and I find them harder to use. The best info I have shows the kit clearplate to be 04W1566. On the older models, the cover of the unit was part of the LCD bezel, which included stickers for the camera and models without camera. I have not bought a Lenovo sunglasses for awhile so it can be delivered with something else, such as the clearplate or misc parts kit. I think the scope is the same as on the T510, 60Y5482. • X130e addition of tag in the BIOS

    I work for a VAR and we have sold Lenovo laptops for years and used tools of Lenovo at the entrance of the labels in the BIOS using the WinAIAPackage (as AIAWrite tool before) to put the numbers in.

    X130e models we receive crash out two programs, and two software indicate not support X130e (software update April 2011). I found some posts on this forum discuss using the WinFlash and associated BIOS update tools to force inventory number down, but for other non-X130e models. The WinFlash with BIOS X130e update installation does not seem to respond to the same commands.

    Someone at - he found a solution? I called Lenovo support and they me, after a few days, just wait to update tool sets. It will not work, I need a solution. I'll keep trying various tools of Flash in the hope of a solution already posted will work for me a little tweaking or whatnot. That or I'll brick one.

    We treat thousands of Lenovo laptops, and if newer models are not compatible with the number of active own Lenovo software, this is a real problem. (And Yes, I tried to enter them manually. You can not...)

    In case somebody stumbles on this post in the future as I did on messages earlier with the same objectives,

    Lenovo has released version 1.02 of the "Windows utility for reading and writing Asset ID Information' and"Utilities for reading and writing Asset ID Information"to

    and

    and

    and

    http://download.Lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/PC/pccbbs/mobiles/6iad03ww.txt

    It also supports:

    - Added support for ThinkPad L430,L530,T430,T430i,T430s,T430si,T530,T530i,W530,
      X1,X1 Carbon,X121e,X130e,X230,X230i,X230 Tablet,X230i Tablet.
    - Added support for ThinkPad Edge E120,E125,E320,E325,E425,E525,S430.

    The Lenovo driver site indicates a release on 8/14, but reading tell me that they were released 7/11 files. I know for a fact that when I called Lenovo from mid-July to August, it wasn't published, nor known to the level of support I received.

    Anyway, I didn't leave this issue pending in itself, in case anyone in the future would be in a similar quandry.

  • Cannot enter the W530 UEFI Bios (same as T530?)

    It seems that I had the same problem that customers have with the T530.

    After removing the password from the bios, I have no chance to get into the BIOS.

    BIOS version: 1.11 (uefi enabled only)

    OS: Windows 8 (x 64)

    I tried:

    -Remove all drives (mSATA SSD, ODD, HARD drive)

    -Press F1 in the Lenovo screen

    -Tried all the options in the Windows Start menu

    -You press the Enter button to the Lenovo screen

    Unfortunately there is an update of the BIOS for the W530. So how I get into the BIOS?

    Solution: update the BIOS 2.06. That access to the BIOS is no longer a problem.

  • W530 first steps

    Hi all

    I'm new to Lenovo family and have recently bought W530, i7, 1 TB HDand 8 GB of RAM. The machine was delivered, but there is no user guide or no matter what warranty guide. I have completely no idea where to find all the required information. While this subject stated as "first step". Please, guide and let me know what to do next.

    Already installed Windows 7 OS.

    I also have ideas family of dual-boot LINUX OS installation. So please let me know what family of Linux is good because I'm not cmpletely one GUI I want to see some terminals too :-)

    Hello and congratulations for your W530.

    The user guide is here:

    T530/W530 user guide

    Any Linux distribution works very well on the W520/W530, I use Fedora myself, but I know others

    using Ubuntu/Mint and other institutions. The only problem is that the Optimus double display

    installation of the adapter is not working properly under linux, last I checked. But you can set it just be

    the integrated (Intel HD) or discrete graphics (nVidia) only in the BIOS, that one you need.

  • ThinkPad T530 built-in camera does not

    Hi people,

    I got my thinkpad T530 last week. I tested Skype after you open the box and it works. Then I took off the original 320G HARD drive and put my SSD 830 on it, reinstalled the win8 and blah blah blah.

    Last night when I tried to talk to my parents on Skype, I discovered the camera is dead. I tried to do:

    (1) according to other threads to uninstall most of the unnecessary drivers.

    (2) reinstall the camera driver;

    (3) remove the ricoh media driver;

    (4) update of the BIOS;

    (5) tired to locate someone has said, the problem of the "private life". But the video/camera option is not even appear by Fn + F6;

    (6) downloaded and installed the thirdparty AMCAM and it says no camera device are.

    Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

    Thank you

    Problem solved.

    This thread has helped.

    http://forums.Lenovo.com/T5/W-series-ThinkPad-Laptops/unable-to-access-camera-on-W530/TD-p/819151

    Generally speaking, it is a fairly common problem among the T530, W530 and similar series.

    You need how the bezel and attach the camera w / son.

    I spent a whole afternoon to find solutions, install/reinstall drivers, calling the customer and etc.

    And this is a new computer.

    Just reminder troubleshoot in this order:

    1. Check if the driver is properly installed;
    2. disable the privacy settings by press Fn + F6. Set as 'normal '. If you do not see this option, then just go straight 4 or 5;
    3. Check if a third party application may use the camera (I used Skype); If not,
    4. Check access bios-i/o-If the camera is turned off. If not, 95% is due to the poor design of the camera and cable. you have to be careful, but don't be afraid, this is not as hard as you think.
    5. Take the three bit wide sticker (using a sharp knife) and the three screws off the coast;
    6. reattach the wire connected with the camera. When necessary, you can even remove the camera, clean the port by blowing
    7. Cancel the procedure of posting.

    Thoughts:

    I don't really know what to say about lenovo QC. I've owned several thinkpads: X60S, X60T, R61, W510 and it most recently bought T530. The camera worked a few days and it just went dead.

    sigh.

  • W530 full charge capacity is much lower than the nominal capacity

    I have laptop lenovo workstation w530 9 cells. Now it is 4 years old now

    I have observed that rcently that battery so quickly.

    A battery meter reset in settings of lenovo.

    It is said that "the State of the battery is good" and illustrated in green color.

    Full load: 38.34Wh

    voltage 12.26v

    power 9.44W

    Temp c 32

    cycle number 418

    rated capacity is 93.6Wh

    design of voltage 11.1V

    I didn't understand why so load the difference between a full charge and design. Is my battery in very good or need a change.

    Can someone help me please.

    'Good' means that it is unlikely to fail completely soon. Electronics indicates that all the cells work. However, the batteries have a limited life and they slowly deteriorate as they are used and recharged again and again. It is just exhausting. The reset is unlikely to help. The "fix" is to replace. Make sure you get one that is designed for the T430/T530/W530. Previous (T420, etc.) have the same size, but they do not work. Avoid spare ones. I think that they are unwanted.

  • W530 - should I RAID or not? + Disabling Optimus

    Long story short: recently placed an order for a W530. Just checked my order shipment status and I see

    "NO_RAIDof Internal RAID - not activated."

    Also had a look at the manual W530 and I don't see what follows, because I intend to install a 2nd HARD drive:

    Hard drive bay adapter
    Model non-RAID W530 T530, T530i,
    Model W530 RAID

    Wait, what? There is no option to choose when ordering from the laptop. So in fact have a W530 RAID model or not?
    Tried to call sales, sales directed me to tech, the tech directed me to sales that I didn't have the phone physically in my hands, but back another two times before that I dropped.

    Just saw this little presentation text also in the manual on the Optimus and Intel HD4000 in the laptop. Really? This has not been at all listed in the data sheet. I plan to do a new install of win 7 so I hope that this disables optimus and keeps the computer laptop running off the quadro anytime, but everyone here would be nice enough to develop their experience, if any, with deactivation Optimus?

    Thank you! Any help I could get hbere would be greatly appreciated, after the frustration both with the channels of support tech official.

    There are 8 weeks on the W530 with RAID + Ultrabay hdd.

  • who to keep? brand new T530 or Macbook Pro retina 7 months?

    I just got a brand-new T530 as a gift. Problem is that I already have a Macbook Pro of the retina. I have been using Mac for about five years.

    The specs are almost identical on computers. Can I return the T530 for a full refund and I also sell the MBPr without any problems.

    My only problem with the T530 is the screen. Other that that, I can live with that. I love native Excel on the T530. I run Parallels on the MPBr to get Excel because I hate Excel 2010 for Mac.

    I know it's a Lenovo forum but some honest opinions please

    I think that it is difficult to give a correct answer to this question. I have two Macs and I have also two Thinkpads (currently T431s and Helix and used to have W530 and T430). I prefer the Thinkpad because I mainly use Windows for the same reason as you, I prefer Office 2013 for Windows on Office for Mac 2011. Windows works as best for work in my case since the company I work for use of many Microsoft products. However I do also some iOS development app so need a Mac. I love the Mac as well and have parallels desktop, but Windows programs to run faster on my ThinkPad and the Mac when you use parallels. Of course, it is also possible to use bootcamp to run Windows which is faster than parallels.

    I would say that if you use mainly Windows programs go to the Thinkpad, but the W530 is a pretty heavy laptop, although I prefer height weight og Mac which could be a factor as well. I used to have a W530 which is awesome, but prefer a smaller laptop so as the T430, T431s and X carbon 1 better.

    It is difficult for someone else to tell you what you choose, and this is something that you need to figure out your own.

  • T530 on more than one station

    Hi all

    I currently have a laptop T520 and I try to order a replacement T530. I currently have an older 4336 port replicator that works great. I know that Lenovo lists a new port replicator for the series T530 with USB 3.0, but I don't really use all that is USB 3.0. Is there a reason I can't use my old 4336 duplicator on a T530.

    Thank you!

    Yes you can use it. I use my W530 on one of them with a 135 watts power adapter.

  • T530 multiple display configuration

    I have the T530 with NVIDIA Optimus option that should allow a triple (two external displays and laptop LCD) display configuration.

    I was able to get a job with computer configuration portable LCD and two external displays on DisplayPort through the docking station.

    I found on some startup programs, I'm either stuck with just the laptop LCD as the view-only or that I am able to turn on a single screen. Sometimes a reboot it will change, sometimes it won't.

    What is strange, is that the NVIDIA Control Panel and the Windows display settings show all three screens LCD, I'm not able to turn on one or both of the external screens (even if I turn off the laptop LCD).

    Someone at - he found a solution to this problem?

    Thank you!

    Hi, admarsha

    There are available for your BIOS and Optimus updates that can help with this. The update of the BIOS can be found here and the Optimus update can be found here. Research on the file Readme for the Nvidia update, part of the update help issues related to several screens via a docking station, so it may be useful.

    Best,
