Tabs to Windows Explorer interface

Are there plans to add an interface to tabs to Windows Explorer? It would be great to see what added. Adding an interface to tabs of Internet Explorer has been a major improvement. I think there will be a lot of satisfaction for a tab being added to the Windows Explorer interface. Of course, I could be wrong.

Weird, weird, term,

  • In Windows Explorer, filenames in blue indicate that the files are duplicates or backup copies of files found elsewhere on my computer?

I had saved my files on my hard drive (I know, I know, that's how dumb that... lol).  I think I have duplicates, reanalyses even perhaps files on the hard drive.  My concern is that many names are displayed in blue color text and they are also listed elsewhere on the hard drive.  Duplicate filenames of colored text blue or even system created versions of my files?

    Hello

What are actually color encoding defined by Windows in the NTFS file system to facilitate the Identification of the type of file/folder
For example: names of files encrypted and compressed files/folder appear in green or blue. You can also set whether you want to display this color:
In, click Tools, Folder Options , and then on the tab display Windows Explorer.
In the advanced settings list scroll down until you see Show encrypted or compressed NTFS in color.
Select or clear the check mark (as you wish)
So you see this file/folder of green, blue are the files not double or triple.
To find the clone files in your system, you can use a program like CCleaner which is easily accessible through the internet. But before you delete the clone you must be sure that you delete all system files, only files personal, or else it will create big problems.

You can check this link for CCleaner: http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/

I'm trying to get a list of a few home videos, I have in my hard disk in excel including the duration tab that is displayed in Windows Explorer.

Is there a way to do this either under windows or excel itself or another program third party?

    Hi jcikal,

It is not possible to import or export the metadata of files & folders from Windows Explorer to Microsoft Excel.

However, you can use your favorite search engine and look for any third party software that can serve the purpose.

  • Windows Explorer and tab organize

I can use Windows Explorer to move files and folders, send them to the Bin Redycle and so on.  I can make them drag or use the Alt/Edition/copy and paste drill, without problem.

However, if I try to use the tab organize with its drop down menu, the line top screen says "(ne répond pas») after the file name, the freezing of the screen (but for the pointer), then will usually pretends, and nothing happens for a few minutes, then place comes a small Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library screen and stays there for a few more minutes."

What I am doing wrong?  Or is there a flaw somewhere?

As I said in the title, my problem is that I am not able to acess file and Search tab 'Options', ' Task Manager ', 'Run' & browsers other than windows explore.

    1. in the case of a tab 'Folder and search options' in the tab to organize, in the Explorer window, the tab appears as the hidden and cannot be clicked. The same"Folder and search options" when I looked in Control Panel, the icon was not seen or available.

    2. the same is also the case for the Task Manager. In the click right option on the taskbar displays the"Task manager" tab, but it seems to also be hidden or accessible when I press alt + ctrl + del window shows no option Task Manager or the tab.

    3. when I tried to run ' run the command ' the command window does not come and the following message appears.

"Windows cannot find"C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe". Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. »

    4. in a similar way when I tried to acess or run the Fireox internet browser, Google chrome and safari browser he showed asimilar message as illustrated tried to reinsall above.i browsers. So far, I noticed only these problems that make me very difficult to work. The main problem is that I'm not in a situation to format my laptop. Please help me with these problems.

    Hello

Restart in safe mode and run the antivirus scans here. You have symptoms of an infected machine. Scanning in safe mode will reduce efforts of the virus to avoid detection.

To restart in safe mode, restart normally, and when the system resets you can press the F8 key. It is point immediately after the screen logo POST or manufacturer initial of the system, and just before Windows starts to load. This will give you a boot menu where you can choose Safe mode.

While you're here, you must also download and run the tool free malwarebytes here:http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (choose Safe mode with networking to do this). He can catch something that lack of MSE, no security tool is perfect.

  • Why the mode list Windows Explorer ignores the document property "Keywords"?

If I open a word.doc file properties Summary tab and type the data in the fields title, author, subject, category, comments and keywords and then activate these columns in Windows Explorer details view, I can see the words I typed in these columns, with the exception of the key words, which remains empty.  Why Explorer doesn't not know my keywords?

In addition, the comments column shows that the first 77 characters of the comment regardless of how long my comment is... Why is this? Is there some hidden settings that can be used to fail this behavior or change to a higher value?

I just answered a recent question and found this old (which is slightly different from the one I responded to regarding Sharepoint properties etc..).

I don't know why Microsoft has not done more properties available through the Windows Explorer list view, because for example, the property of "Key words" in Word has been around for a while before XP came. And before Windows 2 k come AFAICR. But judging by the mass of the columns dealing with properties 'media', they tried to meet the relatively new uses of Windows (much more than digital photography and other digital media), or the necessary code has been written by individuals affected by these media. And maybe the "key words" had been used differently by different Microsoft products and it was difficult to reconcile the different requirements. It is perhaps significant that property taken /is/ supported in Vista's Windows Explorer version, but called "Tags" there.
    However,.
    a. it is / was a mechanism to add columns to the list available from the point of view of list. I've never done so, it may be sure it will work because I imagine it should be, but you need to write a Shell Extension (.dll) that implements the IColumnProvider COM interface and save it in the appropriate location in the Windows registry.
    b. that the mechanism has been replaced by a new system of "Property manager" in Vista It is completely in step with the kind of properties 'Content Type' used in Sharepoint, I can't tell you, but there is a set of pages on this subject at
    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc144135 (v = vs. 85) .aspx
Incidentally, the other widely available 'container' technology that could also retrieve and display properties, and has often been rather better than what Windows, Outlook. If you dragged the Word documents in an Outlook folder, you can create an Outlook display that displays the properties of the document (including key words, at least in Outlook 2003). The problem is that (AFAICR) you couldn't store links and Outlook was not really designed to store the files this way (for example, he had a relatively small capacity). The same thing was also possible at the same time in Exchange Server public folders, but there was also the ability practice and other difficulties, especially if you tried to synchronize these flders between servers. If these facilities are still available, and what was / is available in Groove/Sharepoint Workspace, I do not know :-)
  • The action cannot be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer.

OK, it seems to be coming a lot but no one was able to respond (including Microsoft) so I'll ask, and be as specific as possible.

Because I work with vector art that I constantly have to save files by crush the and everything was cool with WinXP pro.  I have Win7 Pro and everything was cool, until recently.  Whenever I tried to overwrite my files, I would get an error message saying that the file was either dead or opened elsewhere, but it has happened about 50% of the time.  A launch the re-registration of files with different names.  After obtaining the files re-registered I then try to remove and rename files, but found I couldn't do it anymore, as I was constantly getting the error message "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer."  Closing and reopening the browser do nothing.  Someone said if not empty the trash bin works, but not for me.  The files are on an external drive, I tried to disable the cache of writing by Device Manager and Windows Management Console (or other) frozen and took the pc with it (nice work, MS!).  Reboot seems to fix the problem for a bit, but he returned quickly and randomly.  It also seems to randomly select to lock files.  Some files I can not change, some that I can.  Others begin to operate after some time of inactivity.

I tried to disable thumbnails in Explorer and even added a DWORD NoThumbnailCache in the registry, but it still happens.  Basically, I'll have to save all of the new files over and over again and that from time to time be able to remove the "old" while being only randomly too write others.  This question seems to be infestation Vista and Win7 and people have waited for a fix, Microsoft, but was mum on the issue.  If anyone can come up with a solution, it would be great.  It is killing my productivity!

    Common guys...
Im having this problem too and I've been thought IE9 is at the origin of the problem, some how, I don't want to disturb...

    Here are some solutions:
Please note that I'm looking, there is not any solution patch for this program by Microsoft, you can maintain it yourself. And correct solutions in this way losses.

    Solution 1: Use CMD.
0 - note the following 3 steps will complete the process explorer.exe, so your desktop and windows Explorer all open files and any associated process would stop.
    1. run the Task Manager. (by pressing ctrl + shift + esc or etc)
2 - go to the processes tab.
3 - find "explorer.exe" and click on the button "complete the process". If you find several explorer.exe, kill them all.
    4. now, click the menu file-> new task (run...)
5 type CMD, and then click OK.
    6. now you can do something you couldn't have done before with this user interface. Some useful commands:
-cd: change the current directory. Use 'CD..' to the 'button' in windows Explorer.
-dir: lists the existing file and folders in the directory current. Use ' dir/p' to the list in the pages.
-del [file name]: removes the file [filename] existing in the current directory.
-Rename [name of file] [new file name]: rename the file [old file name] existing or a file existing in the current directory to [new file name].

Solution 2: Use a different file manager.
0 - install and run another Manager file as "XYPlore".
1 Note that the following 3 steps will end your explorer.exe process, so your desktop and windows Explorer all open records and all other related processes would cease.
    2. run the Task Manager. (by pressing ctrl + shift + esc or etc)
3 - go to the processes tab.
4 - find "explorer.exe" and click on the button "complete the process". If you find several explorer.exe, kill them all.
    5. use XYPlore UI and do what you want.
Please note that the problem could happen with this kind of external explorers too. So close any file and go into a secure after your working directory.

    Solution 3: Do it yourself!
If you can program, there are some codes that might help you. These codes which talks about Im, says MS Windows to remove your annoying pinned files just before you shut down the system.
    Here is an example:
    MoveFileEx ('C:\windows\system32\ld21E.tmp', nil, MOVEFILE_REPLACE_EXISTING or MOVEFILE_DELAY_UNTIL_REBOOT);
This code will work correctly in Delphi from Borland compilers, and as you can see, the "ld21e.tmp" file is deleted after compiling this code and restart your windows.

I wish I can do better, as to publish an Explorer that do what you want automatically, so I hope that these can be useful.

    (4) the option to remember the view settings of each folder (Recalling the positions and sizes of the individual folder window).

    (5) the option to remove 'Complete the selection of lines' to see in detail. "Selection of whole lines" is very annoying when the file is complete and has no empty space to click on. Also, when dragging / delete the file to another folder - if you release the on the line of a subfolder or file de.exe/.zip/.rar 'selection of whole lines' causes the file to be moved in the subfolder ou.exe/.zip/.rar instead file the file provided.

    (6) a search engine with all the advanced search options. No required syntax.

    (7) the option to always display free disk size space and record on the State and/or the details pane toolbar. Also always automatically show the size of the selected files (when several files are selected it will not show the total size).

    (8) the option to show the pane that is your mouse with wheel mouse, even if this pane is not selected.

Using the classic interface to restore functionality of Windows Explorer

After you have installed the free Classic Shell , you can customize Windows Explorer more closely to how you want it, the quote below is just a way to do it. Click here to see some of the options that you can customize, and here is the FAQ page for the classic interface.

A solution that worked for the restoration of some features.

    (1) install the free Classic shell.  It's very customizable and works like a mod for Windows Explorer rather than a full blown replacement. You need to install the classic Start Menu option, but you can if you wish.
    (2) restart the computer.
    (3) launch Windows Explorer (Start - computer) and turn on "Always show Menus" (organize - Layout - check menu bar). It's just for the configuration, you can disable it again later if you wish.
    (4) make a right click on the menu bar and turn in the "Classic Explorer bar. This adds a series of icons for cut/copy/paste in Explorer. Basically, it also adds the "Configuration" icon
    5) go to the configuration and from there you can edit things to your heart's content. To kill the horrible record-jumping 7 Windows, place you Vista in 'Style Navigation pane. You can even hit back to XP mode if you want (this adds lines to the tree of folders and adds a classic icon "+" for the expansion of folders). The Windows Vista folder display style looks about the same as the view from Windows 7, but it gets rid of the horrible blow.
    (6) adjust other settings you want.

After that, you can activate the toolbar and menus walk back to explore if you wish. Explorer Windows seems largely the same, but folders is no longer jumping around.  Vote for Microsoft to fix this bug.

  • Windows Explorer for Windows 7 - How to stop automatically sort my files

I have Windows 7.  Explorer Windows automatically sorts my files in each folder.  I put in "sort by..." Name ', so for now he is sorting alphabetically, but no matter what I put in 'Grading', it does it automatically.  But I want to be able to move the files to the folder in different orders, and then once I'm satisfied with the order, then I can change the name of each file and then choose to classify them alphabetically or otherwise.

For example, this is useful for a folder full of photos.  Let's say I have a folder with 50 photos in there of holiday, and I would like to re - order these photos, but I want to play visually with different orders until I have decide to order, I like most.  So I want to move each file/photo until I like the Decree.  To do this, I would open this particular folder in Windows Explorer, then select the "Large icons" view and then moving the photos until I like order.  And then once I have pictures in the order I want, then I would like to rename each picture (1, 2, 3, etc.) and then Windows Explorer say "sort by...» Nu.  That's how it was on my old computer, but I got XP and now I have Windows 7, but I can't imagine that Windows 7 would not let me do the same thing.  But the way it works for me now, Windows Explorer comes automatically orders/sorts my files depending on the option "sort by" I chose.  So if I change the name of the files (from 'Photo #25' to ' Photo #10 "'), it automatically goes this photo between" Photo #09 "and" Photo #11 ".»»  And if I try to move 'Photo #10' next to say "#37 picture"to see how they look next to each other, it won't let me. "

so... Is it possible to have Windows Explorer "NOT" sort my files until I have to say?

The most important fix or return to Windows Explorer features:

    (1) the option to turn off the auto arrange.

    (2) fix the Bug of scrolling in the left pane: If you view a folder and expand in the left pane to display its subfolders, the folder is annoyingly prefer to the bottom of the component causing the subfolders do not appear, making it difficult to work with. Double click on a folder in the left pane can also cause this problem.  Vote to fix it..

    (3) when several files are selected they should stay selected when changing the sort order (ex: name of size). Maintenance of the files selected in the sort should be a requirement, and this feature should not have been removed.

Inform you want Windows explorers returned Microsoft functions:

Given that many people seem to agree that some or all of the changes made to Windows Explorer were actually less friendly user, you can go to the Windows 7 comments page and (politely) to let them know your suggestions to improve:

Note: do not have the message that is too long, there is a size limit for your message, even if page does not tell you on this subject. Also, do not just copy and paste from the list above - they'll think that the same person is repeatedly submit comments.

Pane left scrolling bug (and other corrections):

Now if only MS allows to code correctly so that we don't have to mess with third-party applications to get Windows actually works...

  • Windows Explorer toolbar is missing

The toolbar of Windows Explorer is missing. It is a problem of blocking for me. I will come back to the computer and request a refund or request XP if it cannot be repaired.

I was able to install a legacy program that serves every day. ITS toolbar is also absent.

I have dozens of legacy programs that are not "compatible". I appreciate these applications much more highly than an interface continuously chinless with transparent borders. It is a blocking problem. . I will come back to the computer and request a refund or request XP if it cannot be repaired.

My eyes are sensitive to light. The first thing I do when I buy a new Windows machine is to set the background to gray File Explorer. I can't do it, even in the "Standard" view

It is a problem of blocking for me. I will come back to the computer and request a refund or request XP if it cannot be repaired.

These things can be fixed? I could live with the 100's of other embarrassment of this UI, but not these elements.

Display the Menu bar in Windows Explorer - very easy to fix 1. Click the Start button, type folder options and click on the link 'Options folders' that appears.

    2. when several tabs 'Folder Options' dialog box is displayed, click the "View" tab

    3. under "Advanced settings", check always 'display menu '.

    4. click 'OK' to close the dialog box.

If you have Windows 7 Professional or ultimate, you can download and run the XP Mode to install your legacy programs.

  • Windows Explorer and other programs will not open / work

Can anyone help? In XP Home Edition, programs as internet explore/microsoft works work only sporadically, but often does not open and then I asks me to send an error report. When I try to stop, Windows Explorer will not work and asks me to send another report of error! ... Can not much experience with these things someone explain what I can do? (I ran a virus scan, and all seems ok)
    Thank you

    Hi Mike,.

According to my experience, this kind of behaviour is symptomatic of the corruption of data on the hard drive. However, since you say that these applications work sometimes I am inclined to suspect that your hard drive may be failing, possibly with errors in sector where those applications reside.

I suggest that you take a backup copy of the any of your own data files and then run a CHKDSK command on your hard drive to see what he finds (this can make a right click on the HARD drive in my computer icon, then select Properties, then the Tools tab.) Check disk utility is at the top).

If it detects too many bad sectors, and then looking to replace the hard drive and reinstalling your system.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite A200-TH7 - Windows Explorer not responding

At random times (normally when I wake the PC) and I click on the volume control in the taskbar, nothing appears.
Then I'll go to move the physical volume control cursor and nothing will happen.

However, at this time, I'll try to click anywhere on the taskbar, but it freezes and says "Windows Explorer is not responding" and I have to restart the program. Once doing so, volume control isn't even on the taskbar. And if I slide the physical volume slider, Explorer crashes once more.

I have Vista and its a Satellite A200-TH7.

I have the volume on mute so I literally can't hear anything now.
If I restart the computer, it'll work, but this problem occurs frequently.

    Hello

In my view, this has nothing to do with the volume control on the task bar.
In my opinion, there is a problem with the Explorer of Windows Vista.

Usually, you can enable and disable the mute settings in Control Panel-> Sound-> reading tab.

You are able to reach these settings?

  • Copying files to target RT using Windows Explorer through FTP connection

I frequently transfer files from my cRIO to my desktop PC via a connection FTP through Windows Explorer.  This method works well most of the time.  However, if the file on the cRIO changes and I try to copy it again into my desktop PC, the old file is pasted to my office.  I remember seeing the solution to this in the past (a browser setting or something) but for the life of me, I can't find this thread.  At this point the only solution I know is to rename the file on the cRIO and then perform the transfer.

Does anyone know how to force Windows Explorer to recognize and copy only the most?

    Thank you

    Jeff

Don't know if this setting also effects Windows Explorer but it should work in Internet Explorer.

Change the cache forever setting search content updated at every visit to the page. To do this, click on Internet Options in the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click settings on the general tab, click every visit to the page, and then click OK. For FTP, this forces the content to be downloaded again as a new copy rather than chosen in the cache.

  • French names for applications 'Windows Explorer' and 'File Explorer '?

I'm updating documentation and noticed that "Windows Explorer" (win7) and 'File Explorer' (win8) are mentioned in the French translations.

When you use the french language pack, these applications use the English names, or is there the French names for them?
    Thank you.

    Hey,.

-Are what documents you referring? Personal work or associated Windows?

-What version of Windows is installed on your computer? Is - this Windows 7 or Windows 8?

If you have installed the French language pack, then some of the applications (Windows 8) will be displayed with the french names and rest will appear in English because the version of Windows installed on the computer will be in English. If you have installed the version French of Windows, then the interface of Windows will be in french, and if you add an English language pack, then some of the apps will appear in English.

So, if you don't want the french names on applications, then please check the language packs installed (and the current language pack used) and change it to English.
