I tried to install VMWare Server for the past few hours now, but nothing helped. I use Ubuntu 8.10.

I have already patched, had to move manually the files, and now I'm here:

I know that vmnet.tar was here before... and he suddenly disappeared. How do we do it back, or can I download it somewhere? Thank you.

A little worrying that this file should simply disappear - never happened on any of my guests. Check the logs, etc. for possible reasons. You get also warnings much more when you run vmware - config.pl I've ever encountered. What files did you manually have to move?

If you download the tarball, extract the file from here and place it in the folder "/ usr/lib/vmware/modules/source", then you should probably go further. Should also be vmci.tar, vmnet.tar and vsock.tar in there.

I look in / dev, and of course, there is no vmmon. I see a lot of archived messages stating that you must run the script ' vmware - config.pl '... (more specifically the following link: ) http://blog.solutionperspectivemedia.co.UK/?p=6 )

but I do not have it. It seems that maybe it was a part of the installation (no-bundle) more old?

What should I do? Is this a known problem, as indicated in this Web site? Or random failure caused something? I'm quite confused.

Have you tried to uninstall as root? Otherwise I think it won't work.

With respect to your original problem, I got it, too, and that's what I did:

    sudo mv/usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary.old

    vmware-modconfig--console--install-all--appname sudo = 'VMware Player' - icon = 'vmware-player '.

Are there elements that people are aware of which are not contained in the output?  Seems to contain a lot of information system (bios version, firmware disc etc.)

You seem to redirect the output of the command into a file on the local file system.

    Why is this?

If you leave the output come from the screen, it should be later in the $msg variable.

    exec: 206: / usr/lib/vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone/converter-gui: not found

I searched the forum but I can't seem to find anything that refers to this specific error. I've seen other posts that do not include this error, but are usually accompanied by a missing library etc...

I even tried to run the executable files in the directory/var/lib/vmware-vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone directly, but then, I get the following errors...

  • VMware Workstation 9: could not open/dev/vmmon: no such file or directory

I'll have a plethora of problems installing and get VMware Workstation 9 (9.0.2 build-1031769) to work on Ubuntu 13.04 (kernel 3.8.0 - 26-generic).

I experienced exactly the same process on my laptop and it works perfectly, while on the desktop, it seems that everything breaks. Could someone give me some kind of help / advice on how I can do to get this working. I tried full uninstall / reinstall of the software, headers of the kernel, kernel images, different kernels, patches here on fresh installs of everything I can think of. Here are the issues I encounter in the order of importance (or so I think):

    (1) whenever I try to open my new (and virtual) machine, I get the error sequence of:

"Could not open/dev/vmmon: no such file or directory. " Please make sure that the "vmmon" kernel module is loaded. '--> 'Failed to initialize the device monitor. "->" cannot change the power state of VM: could not find a valid peer to connect to '

    (2) every time I try to run the following command to configure the modules on a completely fresh setting (reinstalled kernel, vmware) I get the following output:

    sudo modconfig vmware - console - install-all

    (3) I often get the Ubuntu "this program has planted" messages on "/ usr/lib/vmware-installer/2.1.0/vmis-launcher" "' (this message of crash always occurs when you run the"vmware-modconfig"above command on a new installation.

    (4) at different times during Assembly and have VMware workstation on my system I get Ubuntu hangs on "/ usr/lib/vmware/bin/appLoader" and even "/ bin/su" (especially when you are trying to install - su NEVER blocks anywhere else).

Thoughts / ideas on what is happening on earth / what could have caused this all go so downhill / how to go about fixing?

    Solved.

The problem is that for another program I used gcc - 4. 4 instead of later. Restore the (by update-alternatives - config ) for gcc, g ++ and CPC - bin.

Not a very graceful exit to have a version not valid I would say, maybe some sort of basic check could be added to ensure that the correct versions are present?

  • VMWare Fusion 6.0.5: Could not open/dev/vmmon: no such file or directory.

I've been running VMWare Fusion 6 on my MacBook Pro with the Mavericks for quite awhile.  I just got a Mac Mini with Yosemite and I want to copy one of my virtual machines of the MBP to the Mini.

I tried to just copy the vmware.vm of the MBP to the Mini but when I open it and try to start it I get the following errors:

    • Unable to open/dev/vmmon: no such file or directory.

Please ensure that the "vmmon" kernel module is loaded.

    • Could not initialize the surveillance apparatus.
    • Internal error

I also tried to import the vmware.wm file, but it is always grayed out.

How can I copy a virtual machine from one Mac to another?

    Hi atj777,

Are you absolutely certain that this is Fusion 6.0.5, you're there?  Fusion 6.0.4 and earlier would fail on Yosemite the way you describe.  There are many other possible causes of the same error message, but it would be the first thing I would check a second time.  (My apologies if you have already verified!)

What version of Yosemite are you running?  10.10.2?

It can also be useful to restart your Mac to see if that helps... sometimes he does.

To answer your question directly: simply copy the ".vmwarevm" package on the whole should be enough.  The message you see is a generic merge error and has nothing to do with the copy process.

    See you soon,.

  • Remove VMware completely when the installer fails - HOW?

I had VMware Workstation 8 works fine on a 64-Bit machine of Windows 7.

I bought 9 Workstation and tried to install it, and he says that he should uninstall version 8.

Well, it failed.  Now, I can not install ANY version, version 7, 8 or 9, all versions.

The installer is apparently unable to deal with an error to uninstall an earlier version. Why?

[at this point, Monday, December 17, 2012, it is all fixed with VMware technical phone support. It involves several

steps and a key was to use the utility Fixit from microsoft from here: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2438651/en-us

and 1308 VMware knowledge base article http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1308 .

Microsoft fixit scanner not found VMware, but she showed 'unknown' (or other?) and VMware

technical support took the key to the article above of 1308

    {0D94F75A-0EA6-4951-B3AF-B145FA9E05C6} HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

Paste in the registry key when asked by the fixit utility

    {0D94F75A-0EA6-4951-B3AF-B145FA9E05C6}

Who noted a mistake and fixed it.

    My options are:

1 reinstall the Windows operating system and start from scratch (which will take a few days to catch up with installed programs).

NOTE: DON'T DO THIS WITH THE SUPPORT OF VMWARE

    2. remove all vestiges of the previous installations of VMware so I can install without being told that the installer has found another version.

NOTE: THIS WAS DONE BY THE TECHNOLOGY WITH THE HELP OF THEIR CONTROL PROGRAM REMOTE

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They have the option "/ clean" on the installer, which does not work, but it must do what he pretended to do so, remove all previous keys and elements.

What a VMware solution that fixed what well Setup obviously cannot fix. It should prepare my computer so it will NOT report versions of VMware if I can install two versions 7, 8, or 9.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the help of VMware support, they were able to completely remove VMware and install VMware 9. I'm going to

to try to writeup that they did, but the solution took about 30 minutes and many find and remove the

    Directories of VMware.

I now have version 9 installed and it works fine.

Post edited by: jeff92677 - TO EXPLAIN THAT THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED, AND THANKS to VMWARE for THE SOLUTION

This feature was introduced in WS 7.
Since then WS installers often think that older versions is present - and this happens even on systems that has never ever been before WS.

On the issue of the port... This is normal. Most of the time it does not configure the port correctly during a first installation.
You have installed Skype? -Make sure that remove you it temporarily.
Then stop vmware - pass manually - change the
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\hostd\proxy.xml
-use an equivalent path for win7 of course - so that it uses the port you want.

    445

Then restart vmware - pass and it works hopefully

  • Delete the files from/usr/lib/vmware/hostd/docroot/downloads with Powercli

I'm tying to achieve the same goal as their example of cron in this KB with PowerCLI or c#:

We have tools that bring together our newspaper bundles ESX/ESXi and ship it to Vmware support for analysis, but the files never get removed from the * / downloads directory on the host.

We have a mixed esx 3.5 / 4.0 to esx / esxi 4.1 environment. I prefer not to run local cronjobs on the hosts. Someone at - it a good way to handle this with PowerCLI or c# code against vCenter?

    Thank you!

    Jeff

On the ESX servers, where you have a COS, you can use the command subsequently plink.exe alottt.

There is an example in the HBA information: PowerCLI wire.

On an ESXi server, you can use the same procedure, but it requires a bit more.

And the environment that you are connecting is somewhat more limited compared to the COS.

See the example of policies to change password on ESXi

  • SFC scan reports sidebar.ini and source file as a corrupted file even after the installation of WIndows Vista repair.

    Hey, I'm Ryan.
I am running windows vista 32 bit and I get 2 files corrupted when I run SFC - they relate to the windows sidebar (sidebar.ini and store source file is also corrupted). I did a repair installation, and this always happens when I run the SFC.

1 - is this going to cause any problems to my laptop if I leave it alone?
2 could it be related to a virus?
I'm sorry for the questions, but I'm confused as to how this happened... Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

    1 NO.

    2 NO.

This SFC message could be caused by the manufacturer of the computer adding gadgets to the sidebar before installation of Windows for you, or some other change to the sidebar gadgets

Move the/usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary in the directory precompiled binary modules. Then the startup script will try to compile the corresponding modules for your kernel.
