  When you open a new window of an application, it will open in the active view. Even if you have the dock on the other screen, look at your taskbar to see if it is translucent.   Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.  To restore it in the start menu as it was before.  If you want to test to see if it corrects the problem, restart and make sure that the Dell docking station appears.

  If Firefox is in display full screen, that allows to block the taskbar. You can switch from full screen to normal display using either:

  • F11
  • Drag the pointer of the mouse to the top of the screen, right-click on an empty area of the bar tab, then exit fullscreen

  If this is not it, sometimes the file that stores the dimensions of the window becomes corrupt with nonsense values. Since the file is difficult to edit, you can rename and have Firefox back to windows default sizes.
