  I recently had problems with my Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 (vista 32-bit windows operating system). I couldn't get a USB microphone to work and I decided to update the sound card driver. I downloaded and updated what I thought, it was the right driver (sigmatel high definition audio codec) and since there is no sound from speakers. I followed the guide from Dell troubleshooting and disconnect any external devices and then click right click the mixer volume in the system tray, and then clicked on "open volume Mixer" and I get the message: no audio device installed. I went to the control panel to check the sound card driver and he told me that the codec sigmatel high definition audio works well and he has not updated. I unfortunately can't restore the system that system restore installation in my computer stopped working awhile (even when I start windows in safe mode) so I'm stuck. I think that I have installed the wrong driver for the sound card but don't find it not easy to understand which driver to search the dell support center.   no error message, I was watching a movie when my laptop died. I plugged it into the power source and now there is no sound from speakers or headphones when I plug.   Try the following.

  Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

  One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

  When you're done, shut down the laptop and perform a "Hard Reset" for your model, as described in the document of HP here.

  One when you're done, press next to the key ESC that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, then select f10 to open the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the default values (sometimes it's f9, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER.  Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.

  Allow Windows to fully - charge it will automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete.  Then open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.  'Speakers and headphones' left click once to highlight, and then click the Set Default button - check if you now audio.

  Type in "change the settings of the sound card" in the search bar and open it. Double-click on your speakers to open the speaker Properties window. In this, go to the tab called Dolby and click the power button in the upper left corner to switch it off.

  So I just restart this player or the game and then sound is switched to the headphones.

  So in sum up: when I want to listen to the sound of some player I have to plug in headphones first and then start the player in order reverse, the sound is not switched to the helmet line.

  In other laptops with Vista I have check this problem is not to happen.

  I have the Satellite A200 too preinstalled with recovery DVDs. I was very curious and I tested it on my laptop. In my case everything was OK. Through the use of headphones, Laptop speakers are automatically TURNED off. Remove helmet speakers work again.

  I am really confused, and it is really not easy to say what the problem is here. AFAIK in headphone plug it is small, and through the use of headphones this past should disable Laptop speakers. All you can do is check if it happens after clean OS installation, maybe update the BIOS or install the latest driver sound.

  Sorry, but I don't see any other possibilities. If anything maybe you must contact the service in your country. I really can't imagine that this little mixer may be defective but service may only do a check.

  The speakers certainly work as I hear the rift of Windows to boot top.  Once started, I can't get sound from headphoones.  For about 4 months in this way.  Was OK with it but my kids wanted to watch a movie together and I can't do it with 1 helmet.  I am very computer.  I tried all the basics like reinstall drivers and check all the speaker settings. Called ASUS and the tech rep said that I have to do a system restore to machine original, brand new.  Don't want to do that.  What is the problem of Microsoft?

  I.ve just had my first problem with my Toshiba Satellite L650 - particularly serious, because I rely on it for all my music playback!

  Hmm, I doubt that the headphone is faulty because in this case, the internal speakers of the laptop computer s should work properly.

  Please go to Panel of-> sound-> the Read tab.
  The speakers as default device?

  My Compaq Presario CQ57-339WM running 64-bit Windows 7 has no sound coming from the built-in speakers.  The headphone jack works with headphones, but the built-in speakers have no sound.  I just downloaded the driver update and still no sound.  When I check the speakers in the Manager, it indicates that the device is functioning properly.  Short of redo the original back recovery point system does anyone have any suggestions of how I can check to see if the problem is in the speakers or with the card or what?  I looked on the boards here, but nothing seemed to fit my problem exactly if I'd appreciate any help.  Thanks in advance.
