Tecra S1 disk USB 2.0 external BACK

I use Norton Ghost 2004 with an external drive USB 2.0 for backup.
External drive works very well BACK in BIOS 2.00

External drive is not recognized back in the BIOS 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3.

Is there a solution?

Hello

have you checked that the USB Legacy mode is enabled in the BIOS?

I did... brought a new one and exactly the same thing... people say it's because of the usb port not fast enough... I feel there is another way around this as other elements usb 2.0 have no problem... any help is appreciated more graciously!

    Hello!

The external box is maybe defective, because you said that the HARD drive works in your laptop and the PS3 without problem.
You can test the HARD drive in another external case?

WD test unknown to me but I always use the Drive Fitness Test:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test, you can test your HARD drive. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. You can then the HARD drive.

With the USB key or external hard drive, it may depend on what you have installed on these readers whether if a winning process accesses these files, for example indexing can be current or you may have installed a program, as opposed to just the data on the disks

  • I can't initialize the disk for my new external hard drive

I can't initialize the disk for my new external hard drive because the drop-down list in the Disk Management Console does not give me this option. I'm logged in as an administrator and running Windows XP.  The driver for the new hardware is not digitally signed because I can't initialize the disk.  So I can't get my new hardware to run.  Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the option "Initialize disk" in the Disk Management Console?

    Hello Honduras1,

Can you simply right-click and format everything first?  The drive must be formatted before use, make sure that you format NTFS.

  • Tecra M2: Can I boot from USB/Firewire-drive external HARD?

    Hi all

How can I boot from an external USB drive?
The Bios 1.20, 15/03/2004 does not seem to support this on my Tecra M2.

I have a Maxtor 300Gig external HARD drive that can be connected via Firewire or USB. Usually, I use a PCMCIA card Firewire to connect the HARD drive, which has 3 partitions.

It would be also possible for a start-up by PCMCIA Firewire?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes to the computer until the problem occurred?

    2. that you get an error message while you connect the external hard drive?

I suggest you try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Try to connect the hard drive to a different USB port or try to connect the hard drive in another computer and check that the problem persists.

Method 2: Try running the Fixit tool from the link below.

Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/hardware_device_problems

Method 3: If the previous step fails, check if the hard drive is detected in disk management.

    To open disk management

    (a) from the start menu, click Run.

    (b) in the Open box, type diskmgmt.msc, and then click OK.

Method 4: Also try to follow the steps from the link below.

A computer that is running Windows XP cannot detect a USB, an Apple iPod flash drive or an external hard disk drive: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925196

I have 2 GB external usb external hard drive that appears in the XP and Win7 system tray, but not in my computer/workstation?

When I go to the management of computer disk/storage/management - is not there in XP but it is for Win7.

How to work various PC and diferent OS?

If you view the contents of the external drive, I think that the first folder contains a USB driver that you need to install to run properly, if you cannot view the contents of drive I'm sure you can download the driver for Western Digital. I think that the work of readers well on Windows 7 installs with 3 USB ports, but drivers are needed for USB 2.
