Term of lease IP for linked clone desktops?

I have a pool of 80 IP addresses for my POC and I was wondering what is the recommended duration of the lease?

count how many times you rely on the update or redial, personally in my test environment I have it up to 4 hours.

  • Impossible to change the wallpaper in the linked Clone desktops

    Hello

I have a weird problem with a client running Horizon view 6.0.1:

In linked Clone desktops, we are unable to change the desktop background. We have created a new master without optimizations that I thought one of them already could be the problem (we removed the design etc. but just to get that optimizations).

I can change the wallpaper in the master image without problems, but not in the deployed workstations. If I click on other models, I see more active design Aero, the colors change from window etc, but the background remains the standard image of blue windows ("harmony"). Even if I select the images from the Explorer, right-click, as wallpaper - no change.

Anyone has the same problem and can lead to a solution?

P.S.: We use management Persona. But I have already created a pool in an OU without management of Persona and still have the same problem.

    Best regards

    Thomas

I saw something similar awhile back after running desktop optimization commands.   I found myself by opening a ticket with Microsoft and the following changes are what sets our questions.

    Reg load "hku\temp".
    «% USERPROFILE%\ \Default User\NTUSER.» DAT '.

    reg delete "hku\temp\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System".
    wallpaper / v

    reg unload "hku\temp."

    PowerShell Set-Service "Themes."
    -startuptype "automatic".

  • Fault tolerant on VMware linked clone Desktop

    Hello

someone may answer whether it is possible to enable fault tolerance on linked clone VM to a master, through composer.

Client wants to protect in this way, hundreds of virtual office, I thought about using a channel 10 gigabit for the communication of FT logging, that think u dou everything?

    Thank you very much

First off it is only recommended to have 4 FT running for each host, so would need you 25 hosts make 100 mV.

Secondly, I am sure that this is taken care with view.

Thirdly, also sure FT requires full VMs, clones and unrelated, so your cost of SAN will rocket sky.

Fourth and this is my favorite, it is exteremly high Windows going down until your host blocks (ESX breaks down).  FT no help even in this situation as if OS1 block him operating system on the other server will crash at the same time.

FT is designed for mission critical Server VM, not of VDI.

  • Graphical support for linked clones

I would use linked clones in order to improve the commissioning of virtual servers that share large amounts of common data. I have the budget for upgrading vSphere and/or purchase additional software, and I tried to ask the VMware sales people to get advice on what products would allow management of related clones. The saleswoman, I spoke with possibly suggested vCenter Server v5. My company already uses v4, and I see nothing in it for me to create a linked clone. Maybe it's a new feature in v5, but it is not mentioned in the list of the new features. I think that the seller was probably misinformed about this possibility.

Does anyone have experience create clones related with a graphical management interface? If so, what is the combination of products VMware would be optimal to allow clones related to a small environment (e.g. 2 physical hosts)?

If you want to use linked clones, right now your options are to use vCloud Director or VMware View.  There is no support of base level for the creation of a clone that is bound in the GUI (just support of the API for it).

  • Linked Clone desktop deployment

OK, this may be a really stupid question, but I can't seem to find something relevant in the Administrator's guide.  I just started to test office automated linked clone pool.  Is there a way to proviosion workstations as needed or all must be provided at the time of the creation of the pool?

    Thank you

    Tony

No, when you create the pool under the automated dimensioning parameters, you will see an article that explains the Advanced Options.  You can use this to set the minimum number of computers in the service, the maximum number of machines for the pool and the number that must always be available.

Thus, a 3 min, 10 total, 2 available would create three virtual computers immediately, as soon as the first two were recorded in a fourth would be created to join the 2 available.  Happen in order until you have reached 10 total workstations in which case you would be complete.

  • Local drives displayed on linked clone desktop

This should be easy. I'm under View5 (new deployment) and everything works fine. My only problem is the subject line. I Googled, read the Administrator's guide... cannot find the setting!

    Thanks in advance!

There is a setting in the GPO to disable the redirected drives.  Who would take care of your problem.

  • How to migrate Office persistent link clones of workstations for the new data store

Hello. We have clones of persistent link to view running in the environment from our view. We need to migrate these desktops to new storage. Rebalancing is out as this will include a refresh operation - destroy anything and everything installed in c:\ of the user. Is there a method to migrate Desktop clone link persistent to a new data store, while keeping the office in the same exact state (i.e. c:\ is not updated).

    Thank you

Never say impossible. I came across the solution when I read the article by Duncan Epping:

    http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2012/03/15/Dr-of-view-persistent-linked-clone-desktops/

I have that for my situation. Basically, replicate data from view in the new storage warehouses. Set up data warehouses replicated without re-signing with the cluster of ESXi. Turn the power off and unsubscribe the vCenter view workstations. Save the workstations from the data store replicated/mounted to vCenter and power over desktop computers.

VCenter, nothing dramatic has happened if she sees just as vm being unregistered and re-recorded activity from the same exact data store (the same UUID). View Admin is happy because he sees just the events as desktop computers that have been turned off and then subsequently in reverse. Nothing has changed regarding the database to view ADAM, we still use the same data warehouses.

I have already tested before for a scenario of View DR, and he succeeded. Between remembering who and Duncan's article helped me to adapt the same process for this. Nothing is impossible

  • Problem with the floating linked clones and Persona

    Hello

    We run a build view Horizon 6.2.0 - 3005368.

Just improved our VMware environment to 6.2 and installing an APEX 2800 PCoIP card on our guests.

I had a pool of office dedicated clone bound for users.

Now, I made a new image of master and made a new Automated Desktop Pool pool who are floating clone related.

With the dedicated bound vmis, we place disc profiles of users etc are located.

With the new pool, I'll use Persona. I followed this guide - http://terenceluk.blogspot.no/2012/10/configuring-roaming-profiles-with.html?showComment=1445933020356 and it works very well indeed, almost.

For users of a trial, I can see that if something I save it to the desktop, it will be saved on the server of file \\fileserver\redirected$\%username%\Desktop

When I use my user and try to even something on the desktop - it c:\%username%\Desktop

I tried to reset, remove my user etc., but it's not. All the settings I made in the GPO - Computer Configuration-> administration-> classic administrative templates (ADM) models-> Configuration of the VMware View Agent-> Persona

    Management-> Folder Redirection

But my users settings are only "local".

    How is it?

This can be caused by an incorrect action or NTFS permissions on the redirection of folder/persona.

She is also due if your user account has a profile on the parent whose linked clone desktops are created.

  • W2K8R2 full Clone Desktop Pool status is stuck on "customization".

I searched and read the other posts that I could find on this before posting.  I also read all the articles that I could find.

Working through the Guide of the assessor to see Horizon 6 (http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/view/VMware-View-Evaluators-Guide.pdf), I'm running into issues trying to deploy an office pool complete with cloning (p. 129).  Initially, I had a problem similar w / Linked-Clone desktop pool, until what I came across 1026556 KB.  The status of the error in the end.  Once I changed the registry licensing of Skip, those created very well.  However, I don't see this "reg" on the W2K8R2 machine key.  I tried the two w / out recording a valid key in the profile customization specification (used a MAK license when I used a key).

VM clones / creates the customization occurs very well, and VM joined the field very well.  Starting the Service agent and stays running and I can telnet to the Horizon View Composer server on 4001 of the virtual machine.  I can even turn the machine to myself and begin to make a Direct Connect (the plug-in is installed), but I get the message that I don't have right.  I'm also not see something remarkable in the newspapers.  Think of the re-installation of the Agent and try for the fourth time.

    Appreciate any suggestions.

    SOLVED... (my bad)

Has decided to attempt to create a pool of MANUAL and added this 'machine' to this pool.  STATUS view Console kept showing as "pending on the Agent.

Tried to uninstall and reinstall everything then noticed I had inadvertently used a clone of another virtual machine which had the RDS role is installed.  Uninstalled all the components of the view, then the role of RDS.  Re-installed Agent of the view and everything works perfectly.

  • linked clone / use of disk space

However, I am pretty new to LM.

I was informed that a linked clone would take about 64 MB of disk space per box. I clone a bunch of fees Windosw 2003 OS just to test this linked clone ability out.

The boxes are 27 GB of space to use before the cloning and 9.79 GB after cloning. This is still an economy but is not considerable 64 MB.

Can someone give me some real estimates what to expect in terms of disk space using linked clones without and the changes made to the original system.

Our main reason for the evaluation of the LM was to take advantage of the clones related as one of our servers that clone us is 500 GB in our environments so SAN space gets quickly chewed with each environment.

I'm curious to know what others are recording using a linked clone.

    Cheers.

Do not run a clone that is related to your model.

Create a configuration and add machines based on your model for this configuration.

  • Why Linked Clone drive so slow?

I hope someone has the answer or advice to get better performance with VMware View Linked Clone VM. Just trying to understand why the disk performance is so slow with linked if Clone disk compare with normal disk. Just compare the tests of two simple facts with Iometer with the same configuration (4K, writing 80%, 100% random). The first test is inside the linked Clone (C:\) disk and the second is by normal drive added to the same VM on the same data store.

    RESULTS by C:\ (Linked clone)

    ARE OPS / s: 376

    Flow: 1, 6 Mbps

    Latency: 25 ms

    CPU: 62%

RESULTS with D:\ (normal disk added to the same data store - Thin Provisioning)

    ARE OPS / s: 3369

    Flow: 13, 8MBps

    Latency: 3, 0ms

    CPU: 13.5%

The latency is almost 10 times longer and PAHO are / s is almost 10 times less with linked Clone disk. I have attached the Iometer results here combine with ESXTOP results. The ESXTOP shows the same poor results, but strangely the VM do a lot of readings with the linked Clone test. The CBRC is enabled on this pool but I don't think it could have an effect since the disk Iometer is on the 'delta' so not in the drive to digest.

I am sure that the problem is not with the hardware, but just in case, here the configuration:

    ESXi 5.5 (Dell Poweredge r.620)

    EqualLogic PS6100XV

    4 X iSCSI 1Gbs railways

    See Horizon 5.3.1

    vCenter 5.5

    Base image Windows 7 x 64, 2 vcpu

    Solved!

Finally, there is the problem of the image of the mother. The version of the hardware was v8. After the upgrade to version 10 of material and to recompose the pool, the problem disappeared.

Since the 5.2 view, there is a new type of disk to disk clone bound: "SE Sparse (bulk) disc. Is it supposed to be better for the efficiency of storage, especially for the reclamation of storage, but there is a better treatment of the IO, written with alignment issues. It's the type of disk by default for Linked clone, BUT only when the image of the mother is on version 9 or higher of the material...

The results are now OK with the same test VDI. Now, the metric VMWAIT % is normal:

We can see the type of different disc for disc of delta between the version 8 material (first) and 10 (second):

  • addition of CPU/memory for desktop computers in composer linked clone pool

    Hi all

I want to add more CPU/memory for desktop computers in a pool of composer linked clone but I want to build a pool of test out changes first, while the production area is still in place. Can you screw with virtual material in the main image and then take a snapshot and build the pool of test out of it without him bring the clones in the production pool?

I think that the process would be as follows...

    1. modify the parameters of material on the main image of Win7

    2. run the main image and let it recognize the CPU and additional memory (probably needs to restart the CPU I think)

    3. close the main image and take a snapshot

4 create a new pool of test off the coast of this new snapshot

    Thank you!

Yes it may seem straight, it won't cause any problems. If you want to be very careful with your prod environment, you can just clone the base image and make your tests on it.

  • SYSPREP for windows 7 64 bit linked clone pool

    Hello

I'm trying to set up a cloning pool of VMWare View related with desktop windows 7 64 bit, but I'm having a problem with the sysprep command.

Maybe I did something wrong in the process.

    Here's what I did:

    * installed Captain VM

-> install a new windows 7 VM 64 bit VM (Ultimate Edition)

-> tools VM installed in the virtual machine

-> installed the agent of the view in the virtual machine

-> the master VM has added to the domain active directory

-> power off of the master computer virtual

-> taken a snapshot of the master computer virtual

    * Make the necessary prepearations ActiveDirectory

(creation of the organizational unit, etc.).

    * enabled View Composer in view administrator

    * created the linked clone pool:

--> in vCenter settings, I chose the parent VM

    + its snapshot

-> I also published the snapshot to the forwarding server

    -> in comments customization settings.

    I chose the sysprep method

-> 2 windows 7 syspreps were awailable to choice:

    'WIN7SP01' and 'WIN7SP1 '.

-> I tried the procedure at a time

Added some rights for some users to

    the linked clone pool

All the steps of the pool of linked clone in view administrator configuration worked without errors, the linked clone pool has been created successfully.

    THE PROBLEM:

When I try to connect to the clone related with the Client view, pool

It gives me the following error:

"This Office has currently no sources of funds available, please try to connect to this desktop computer later or contact your system administrator."

When I watch the console of all (10) desktop virtual machines in the vCenter.

I see the following error message as a popup on each of them:

"Windows could not parse or process the answer without assistance for pass file [specialize]."

"The settings specified in the answer file not applicable."

"The error was found during the processing of the component parameters [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup]"

No idea what I'm doing wrong here?

The 2 syspreps that I could choose when creating pool related, "WIN7SP01" and "WIN7SP1."

were there to choose just like that, I've never done anything to create, is this normal?

If Yes, what is the difference between WIN7SP01' and 'WIN7SP1 '?

    any ideas?

"I've seen this before and I will say it was because of some kind of defective license referred to in the specifications of customization, which in your case would be WIN7SP01 ' and 'WIN7SP1.   These are not created by the sight and were probably created by the person who manages the vCenter instance because that is where they are stored.   I would check that the license specified with these customizations key are the correct keys to use with WIndows 7 X 64 machines.

  • Force linked Clones to check the live servers to KMS for Activation

    Hi all.

Apparently, linked clones will check the KMS server that was used to activate their master gold.

(Centre of Documentation of VMware View 5.0) - Note This is display 5 documentation, but we use 6.1 view now.

" For the approval of KMS, View Composer uses the KMS server that is configured to activate the virtual machine parent. »

It is a problem if the KMS is taken out of service, or generally a problem - all the linked clones fail to activate.

How can we prevent the clones related to use the same KMS server?

How can we get the clones related list and choose the first KMS server, which is returned by the DNS SRV records?

    Thank you

    Update:

High level of the DNS entry works very well.

    • We have added a DNS record called kms.domain.com that uses repetition alternate for our KMS server two.
    • We made the VM Golder Master point to the folder. slmgr.vbs /skms kms.domain.com:port
    • We rode to the top of some related clones.
    • Check where the clones linked when pointing to slmgr.vbs /dlv- both pointing the DNS record and not a specific server.
    • Made a second activation and performed a capture of packets at the same time slmgr.vbs /ato

We found that the clones related to different servers and respond accordingly.

The same thing can be done with office by using the ospp.vbs script (although different switches).

  • Is it possible deploy Windows 7 floating - Linked clone pool for 10 VDIs and licensing through KMS?

    Hi all

I would like to build a floating - linked clone pool for 10 VDIs and lincense them using KMS.

I read that the KMS solution is valid when you deploy more than 25 VDIs but if my VDIs are rebuild a few times during the day, why KMS does not work for me?

I have an installed KMS and I think the job properly, but when I build my Windws 7 pool for each computer I always get this message:

"Discover the State of the agent (16) composer initialization error: impossible to activate the license (waited 1275 seconds).

If anyone can tell me what I should do to fix.

    Thank you

What I do for this is to simply begin your pool with 26 machines and all have power upward.  Then just make sure all active and then reduce it down to the size you want.  Your environment might suffer a little performance while you do this, but it does the job for you.  A tip - don't forget to make offices and BONES.
