  Yes you can. Open any message from the community, scroll down to the bottom. You will see that "You can change your email preferences in your profile of communities." Go to the community profile and disable mail preferences.

  Unfortunately, Halo 2 does support Windows Vista and more.  Windows XP is not supported.  There may be 3 party hacks that can make it work, but they are not taken in charge and potentially dangerous.
