The download window opens, but it is empty.
When I download a file, the download window opens, but no details of file appear. It remains empty. To access the downloaded file, I have from My Documents downloads file. This oddity showed out of the blue one day, I have no idea why. Otherwise, this version of Firefox has been working fine since I installed it.

I am running Windows XP that is updated to the latest version (which I think could be Service Pack 3, but not positive.) Mozilla Firefox is version 5.0. I tend to use Google as my search engine, so most of the stuff I download comes through sites found through Google, which is also updated.
At some point in the past (there are maybe a few versions) when I want to download a file from the Internet, the "downloads" window opens and in the window would display the name of the file I got was download or came from download. I think I used to be able to then click on the file name and opens the file (or the Setup file if necessary to launch the new program). I am currently using Firefox 5.0 (screen "On Firefox" said that it is up to date) and when I download a file or document, the "Downloads" window appears on the screen as it has always in the past, but it remains empty, that is, nothing is displayed in the download area. I don't remember to make configuration changes, etc., that may have caused the window to remain a Virgin, but I could be wrong. I know how to find the items I downloaded (My Documents / downloads) and can generally guess what might be the name of the downloaded file, but it was much easier when something (anything) appeared in the downloads window.
I'd like someone to tell me about a simple solution for this. I'm ready to be pretty embarrassed that I did something I should not have.
In the Firefox Options / confidentiality be sure 'Remember download history"is checked. To see all the options on this Panel, "Firefox will be" must be set to "use the custom settings for history".
To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click on the icon my computer, choose Properties, this little window is info on your operating system.

Download window box remains empty, regardless of how many files I download. I can get the in the "Download" folder, but it's annoying.
You have Firefox, remember download history value? Options > privacy > [x] do not forget the download history. NOTE: The option on this Panel ' Firefox will be: "should be set to"Use the custom settings for history"in order to see all available options.
Are clear you history of downloads with history > clear recent history or when Firefox is closed (Options > privacy > [x] clear history of Firefox closing > settings)?

I have about a year of downloads to sift through and organize. It means I have many open files that I move the files to the appropriate locations. The last thing I need is to have unnecessarily the browser open between all this mess.
So... can I close my window of Firefox browser without the automatic reclosing also downloads window? Or better yet, is it possible to just open the downloads window and not the browser window?
Again, I want to ONLY THE DOWNLOADS WINDOW open, not the browser window. I see that others have asked similar questions, but no one has ever proposed a solution.
Avoid using the file > exit or the red X button. On the contrary: press Ctrl + j to display the downloads window, and then use Ctrl + w to close the last remaining tabs. The downloads window should remain open. A little luck?

It has been that the downloads window open up everything by downloading. Now all I get is the small arrow icon. It is too hard to see, I love the old-fashioned way. Is this possible?
You can open the downloads tab by pressing Ctrl + J

Formerly the download window showed the State of the download in process and retained a list of files downloaded until I deleted from the list. Now an empty download window appears automatically when I download a file. The window does not reflect the status of the download, download name, etc.. But there is no display of downloaded files. How to restore the function of the download window? I checked the option to display the download window when downloading.
Check some settings:
- Options > privacy > [X] do not forget the download history
- When the use of clear recent history or erase automatically history when Firefox closes, do not check download history

The download window is no longer saves a list but clears on the file to finish downloading
Before a recent update of Firefox, the download window stored and kept a list of each downloaded file (most recent at the top) and could not be allowed manually by clicking on the button 'Clear' lower left corner. Now the window always opens when a file starts to download, but as soon as the download is finished the window clears. It is impossible to click on download to find where the file has been saved. I don't the have not knowingly changed anything but would like advice on how I can restore the previous settings.
- Firefox/tools > Options > privacy > Firefox will be: "Use the custom settings for history" > "Remember download history.
- Press F10, or press the Alt key to bring up the 'Menu Bar' temporarily if the menu bar is hidden.
- Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "tools > Options" If the menu bar is hidden.

When I try to open Firefox, a window opens but it is all black with a green stripe at the top. No toolbar or the controls are visible to reduce, max or close other then. Uninstalling and reinstalling firefox did nothing. System Restore did nothing. I still have access to the internet using another browser, but I never use firefox and hope I can get it back! I've also tried going to start firefox.exe - p, but that box pop up is too just black. I ran my Norton full scan & it says no threat detected. I am at a loss. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
