The Mac Pro to buy - base 4 or 6 for Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop CC

Hey there, I'm new to this forum and I wanted to ask a question on the current Mac Pro.

I am with the purchase of a new Mac Pro, but I honestly can't work if it's interesting to go to 4 or 6 core version.  I do not think that Illustrator CC takes advantage of multi-hearts, but I think possibly Indesign CC and certainly made photoshop CC.  I could be wrong completely well things may have changed.

I'm a graphic designer and especially work in the press.  I create posters, brochures and event work sometimes large format.  Recently, I worked with files around the mark of 500 MB to 1 GB, in photoshop, indesign, and Illustrator, who is about as big as they get ever size wise.

I'm not rendering or doing anything too crazy, especially to throw about 100 MB + files with all of these 3 applications open with multiple layers, possibly Office apps too in the word of the background, powerpoint etc.

I have heard conflicting views on that and I hope to come to some kind of conclusion.  This question was asked before in the past, but without a final resolution.  Whenever I saw a mod Adobe join the conversation its usually a copy and pasted minimum spec link or something like that.  Not a clear jump off of the fence, comment "I would recommend this configuration, it is best for your workflow.

I realize more ram would be nice... biggest SSD etc... but its more the actual base machine I am interested by picking, assistance are additional cores worth? bells and whistles can be added later and I have a good idea that has chosen here.

Future proofing would be the reason to get the kernel 6. It won't be a big difference now with these specific applications. If you add multimedia video/motion against still only down the road then you would like the 6 core.

I'm so curious because I really need speed for Final Cut, but for the Mac Pro, you must separately buy things (monitors, keyboards, mouse). • ASUS USB 3.1 PCI card in the Mac Pro 4.1/5.1

    Hello

As the proud owner of a Mac ro 4.1 (updated to 5.1 and 2 X of Hexa-Core Xeon X 5670 CPU) I "suffer" a restriction.

And it is now old and really slow USB 2.0.

I would like to add a PCI USB 3.1 and I spotted the ASUS USB 3.1 PCI card.

Of course, this card is given only as compatible with Windows...

But I've seen a few reports of people claiming to have inserted this card in their Mac and have used successfully with several devices.

It seems that these reports are under "Yosemite".

I was wondering if they are always good with El Capitan...

I put the card in the Mac.

It seems to be recognized by the Mac Pro.

In fact looking at the system information, under "PCI" give "Expansion USB card".

    BUT:

    -No USB key I have insert mounts;

    -No USB stick plug mounts;

    -my mouse lights

    -the keyboard does not work...

    So I'm wondering if:

-El Capitan has got rid of the first USB support 3.1 to Yosemite?

    - Or if my card can be default somehow?

-If this behavior can be caused by updates, I made (Mac 4.1-5.1 online) + 8-Core CPU-online 12 Core CPU?

If anyone would be able to help me, I would be eternally grateful :-)

If so, the card can be sent to the seller...

    Kind regards.

    Hello there Penguiner.

Looks like you bought the ASUS USB 3.1 PCI card and questions about its compatibility with your Mac Pro. The following Knowledge Base article speaks to the maps provided by Apple which have been tested and work with the Mac Pro:

On the compatibility between Mac Pro-carte models graphics

Since the ASUS card is not listed, the reference of the article could be a good recommendation to follow:

This article applies only to video cards that originally shipped with a specified Mac Pro or upgrade kit have been offered by Apple. Similar maps that are not provided by Apple may have compatibility issues and you have to work with this card provider to confirm compatibility.

  • The Mac Pro has a future?

The Mac Pro has a future? Processors seem to have reached a plateau and it is no longer an Apple Display Monitor for it. I want to replace my 2009 model at the beginning because it will not support the Sierra and would prefer a Pro for an iMac as I run SETI 24/7.

I think that early 2009 Mac Pro is supported of Sierra, although...

Sierra has Siri requiring a microphone that Mac Pro does not, so we need to do, even if Apple can't sell microphone or headset for Mac Pro.

I use Sierra Beta Version2 on 2012, MacBook Air and it's fun.

  • Current best way to clean and speed up the Mac Pro?

I have owned my end of 2013 Mac Pro for about 2 years and updated RAM 64 GB. I learned to not install any 3rd party software to clean up/speed up the Mac. They just make things worse. I don't even install any antivirus software. However, I've been seeing a lot of Rainbow wheels lately. So I would ask the same question again and see if anything has changed.

I say on my Mac Pro.

    1. the SSD has more than 50% unused space.

    2. I use disk utility to check the SSD and it is good. What happened to the authorization checking?

    3. we execute the lately of OS X.

    4. the most common used software on the Mac Pro is Adobe Lightroom for photo editing.

So where should I go from here? Thank you.

    Hello

Replying to myself: the card is functional.

And the material is not at fault.

    How will I know?

Simple: my Mac can dualboot on Mac or Linux Debian.

So I just started in Debian on the same Mac Pro.

Guess what? Without having to install any additional software, the card USB 3.1 is perfectly recognized under Linux.

To remain decent, I will remain silent and will not say what I think Apple tries to limit the use of their devices without the need of technique to do so.

I will now try to start to Yosemite to see if it allows me to use the card.

    Kind regards.

Graphics card Quadro 4000, installed in the Mac Pro, but CS5.5.2 will not enable playback of mercury. I ' v looked but can't find any information. Install the cuda driver 4 - 2.2.10 said if Nvidia running OS 10.7.4 driver install is not necessary. In CS5.5.2, the parameters of the project, general, video playback and rendering, the only option is only the MPE software and it is grayed out. I tried to restart the computer.

as a side note when I open PP I get an error - video filter missing AE > ADBE SubspaceStablizer missing - I don't know what this means, but do not think that it has nothing to do with the issue of mercury reading.

I also downloaded driver Nvidia - Quadro ODE graphics driver. Under Nvidia drivers downloads, it gives several options for the 4000 Quardo for Mac, but the only one that will download is the graphics driver ODE.

IM new to this so I really appreciate your help.

the last two posts fixed the issue of the mercury playback engine not activated GPU accelerator. I hope this helps someone else. Thanks for all the help I received.

    Hello

I'm certinaly not an engineer who can comment on how applications are written and how can hearts of processor they can write effectly, but there has been a lot of comments to the Mac Pro (new), and to answer your question, based on what I read, there were comments that the 8 basic model is good for video editing - not too , nor too little.

Being an editor, I'd always put my money to get the best graphics cards and the largest amount of RAM that you can afford.  For work, we've been specing on new models and it was the 'formula' we follow.  With the exception of the RAM, sounds like once you buy, your clerks to the material with the new machines.

Yes, this card should work. Here's a few other specs for your Mac Pro 2006. FWIW, there are two similar cards, that you mentioned (the map that was an option at the time, these desktop computers are released) and also the BCM94322MC which is an updated version. Either should work. Nevertheless, it would be wise understand return policy in case you get a faulty card.
