The mobile layer mask also moves down under

Ref: Lynda course last http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=55426 point in Chapter 2, "Collage in layer mask' shows that after pasting the layer mask (sketch of a tree) on another layer, you can then move it into place with the tool 'move '. While following, when I tried to move it, he also cuts and moved the layer I pasted the tree on. I noticed that the "move" tool has a pair of scissors attached to it that I can't get rid of. I think that it is the culprit. What I'm * wrong? I have the layer mask selected in the layers panel and did everything as in the tutorial. I repeated the tutorial 3 times with the same result.

I have CS4 Windows.

"Design" and "sketches" files are images of the lesson. The goal is to make a layer mask to the sketch of the tree and place it on the 'paper' layer and then moving into place, as if the hand made the sketch.  "cut layer. PSD"is my result. You can see the part of the drawing pad is cut off

Ignoring any comment on the accuracy of tutorial or your next it as directed, if you want to the declared operation add the following two steps:

Press Ctrl + D to deselect

Press the channel icon to decouple the image on the layer and its mask.

You now can independently move the mask and don't hurt no pixels.  Let us know.

  • "Select inverse" equivalent - or a clipping on the top layer mask

    Hiya.

I'm looking for something in Illustrator that would allow me to do the equivalent of what a "select inverse" then delete, or would a "layer mask" in Photoshop. I haved tried various combinations of clipping mask and dedicated way without any acceptable results.

I am so at a loss for what to do. I tried moving layers around - which is at the top, which is located on the bottom. I tried to remove the red and black shadow-ish layers below; all sorts of other miscellanopus and so forth as well.

  • Eraser tool does not work for the black layer mask

I'm trying to put a black layer mask and use Eraser tool to change.  Unfortunately the Eraser tool does not.  I'm not knowingly do anything differently that I did in the past.  Recently, I did a round of software updates for CS6.  I was wondering if anyone else is experienceing this and if there is a solution?

Verify that the in the Toolbox foreground color is set to black. (in front of when using the Brush tool)

Press D, and then press the X key.

And opacity and flow are 100%.

Most people use the brush on the layer masks and you might find that works better.

  • Gum changing from white to black on the layer mask, leaving the image transparent.

I used the following method in CS5 to erase parts of a layer/bring these pieces back again if necessary. It works in the same way after that I upgraded to CS6 (not sure if the version difference plays a role or not.)

What I'm doing here is blend two layers that overlap in one of the other

    1. create the layer to the top layer mask

    2. Select pure white in the color selection window

3 select the Eraser tool, set the opacity to 30%, 50%, flow 100% hardness

    4. Select hide, erasing the edges of the image where there is overlap to eliminate hard edges and merge the images into another

    5. when I need to highlight an area of the image at the top (one mixed), I pass the color pure black opacity set to 100%, hardness 100% and paint over the areas that I want to "undo" my deletion.

-Sometimes happens a lot after my initial deletion, so a simple cancellation or who goes back in history is not a possible solution at this moment here.

-Another note: I have to move over the other layers to align as much as possible, make the story do not brush useful in this case.

Previously, this would simply restore the image to where it was originally for this place, by removing completely all masking. Now, when I do this procedure, the area that I'm trying to "undo" is however, as if the opacity is set to a level lower than 100%. This poses problems because I want to have the completely opaque image at this stage.

Some other notes I hope to answer some questions that may arise in advance:

I haven't settled the opacity of one of my layer masks

I tried to do the same operation by using the Brush tool (with 100% opacity and hardness, using the opposite colors), with the same result

As we have earlier I don't know another effective way to achieve the same goal. I'd be happy to do it differently but if necessary.

All the layers in these documents are dynamic objects

    Thank you!

I'm sorry it's so confusing. I guess the only reason why I use the Eraser tool is a vestige of when I was actually erase the image - and also I get the brush and Eraser different opacity value to quickly switch between them.

@Theresa actually, I didn't watch only the mask. Of course the mask was gray in the areas that I was talking about. But that lead me to realize that while the color picker looked purely black and white, I was working with a grayscale image, and it was in fact color and converted to looked at pure Grayscale black and white. I need to set the color of the brush at a certain point, when working in RGB (which I rarely do) and not realised.

Sorry for posting something with such a trivial response, but you all help me to understand thank you!

I have the letters that I've converted to outlines and are grouped.  I need a picture to be obscured by these letters.  I created a layer with the letters layer mask, but on the collapse of the group, all the individual letters are masks, but the Group layer mask image icon is removed all that actually hide the entire layer.

If I separate the letters and then make a layer mask, a letter is a mask, the rest are ignored.

To have the letter several forms works as a mask, select all and opposition > compound path > make. That's all you need (no need of a mask layer or anything else).

    mask 8.jpg

    Hello, Kim.

    Try this.

    (1) convert the image into grayscale

    (2) harvest as requires it

    (3) find a graphic you want to use the border on and drag it down about the size of the image of the border

    (4) with the two open files select all in the graph on the border

    (5) in the image to receive the crΘer border a new channel, and then in the graph of the border select copy.

    6) paste in place, the chart of the border in the alpha channel, that you just created.

    (7) now ctrl - click on the alpha layer to bring up a selection

    8) go to the layers palette and select the graphics layer of receiver again with the mobile dotted lines on screen.

    9) press the Add layer mask icon

    (10) finally create a layer to contain everything that you want to use as the background, and that's all.

    It should look like this

    Hope that helps

  • the pen and masking in cs6 tool.

In previous versions, I could create a custom mask (vector) using the pen in 2 easy steps.

Draw a shape, and then drag this shape to the picture that I looked up the mask. Fact.

This "feature" has been deleted from the CS6 and its extremely boring. Or has it just become much more difficult to achieve?

I know I can create a clipping mask using the shape layer, but that requires another visible layer in the layers panel. With 50 elements 'roto 'd' in previous versions in the same workspace gave me 50 layers (the solid black shapelayers cleaning after). In CS6, it gives me 100 layers.

I know that I can select the shape as a selection and then apply a mask but which would make the mask a solid. I want to be able to move my tangents autour etc. 100% non-destructive.

I work 100% nondestructive and Yes, my psd to become very large, but which is no biggie, my computer takes care of everything. I don't want to pixelation.

If you have CS5.5 or earlier versions, create a form and drag the shape to the layer that you want to hide, remove the fill layer and you will see what I mean. That's what I want to be able to do in CS6.

This went from CS6 to 100%?

If you want to move or copy the vector mask, you can also use the following keyboard shortcuts:

Command key (Mac) / Ctrl-drag (Win) the shape layer thumbnail to move the path from form to another layer.

Command-Option-drag (Mac) / Ctrl-Alt-drag (Win) the shape layer thumbnail to copy the path from form to another layer.

  • Is there an equivalent for Photoshop adjustment layer masks After Effects?

I have a clip showing the clouds in a blue sky and the Valley in the bluish shade, and I want to darken the blues of the sky without affecting the Valley. Effects such as Hue/Saturation or curves produce good results on the sky, but apply to the entire composition.

In Photoshop I would just do something like painting a gradient on the adjustment layer mask, but I don't see an equivalent in after effects CC2015.2 and wonder if I forgot something. Pointers?

Mast track controls are in the Modes Panel. The second icon in the lower left corner of the timeline will reveal the switches and modes column in the timeline panel, or you can press F4 to switch between them. If the second icon is not selected, then you should also see a switch at the bottom of the column switches switches/Modes.

Here's how I would setup a colour correction in this train yard shot to put a glance Kodachrome faded on the bottom of the frame without turning the yellow sky.

If you look very carefully between the cars, you can see the start and the end points for my gradient.

  • Add a layer mask

    Hello

I came across this thread in the forum of items https://forums.adobe.com/thread/798304 and had the same question for the CC PS (I don't have the elements to see if this suggestion works there). I tried to add a selection to the layer mask to my pressing Shift/Ctrl and clicking on the thumbnail of the mask, but it does not work (the result has been to deselect the new selection and simply load the mask selection). Other/different way could there be to do?

    Thank you

    -David

What operating system do you use?

The same procedure, spoken in the post that you linked to should also work in photoshop cc

But it probably really can't load the existing layer mask selection.

After that you have the choice, you want to add to the layer mask, simply target the layer mask (click on the thumbnail of the layer mask to make it active), and then fill the selection with black or white.

  • Display problem in 16-bit mode of layer mask

With the new version of CC 2015 of Photoshop, I came across a weird problem in layer mask mixture. Here is an example, what it looks like:

layer blending bug - print screen.jpg

I opened a raw file (.dng) from Lightroom (16 bit, ProPhoto), created a black layer mask and began to paint with pure white. As you can see, the transparency model in the background is always visible, even if the density of the mask is 100% and the white brush was normal and opacity and flow were both 100%. The white layer mask doesn't seem to be completely opaque.

But it's more weird. Then, I put two rectangles in the image. This is the checkerboard disappear, but the color of the rectangles has no effect on the image on the top. So the white layer mask is opaque and not fully opaque at the same time!

I then saved the image in jpeg format and the picture looked like it should be there:

    layer blending bug.jpg

Apparently, the question has something to do with rendering on screen, not the content of the actual image. I also noticed, that changing the picture mode to 16 bits to 8 bits makes the disappearance of the problem. But as I also pay for the 16-bit mode, I would use it...

Everyone found this and you are able to reproduce this behavior? Or am I missing some setting somewhere? Can anyone suggest a solution, or should I just wait patiently as the bug fix?

Layer masks and alpha channels are all 8 bits, regardless of the number of image bits.

What you have tried to solve this problem?  Your video card driver is entirely up to the site of the manufacturer of the card?

What operating system do you use?

    Hello

It looks like your using photoshop elements 8?

Photoshop elements didn't start to ship with the function of layer mask integrated layer pixelated until photoshop elements 9.
