The mode of maintenance ESX through the vCLI

I wonder if it is possible to hire a full maintenance ESX mode using the vCLI.

There are at least two controls available, but non of them wishes to migrate virtual machines to other ESX hosts running.

-However - possible thats using the GUI of vCenter. If you enable maintenance ESX in UI mode, running the THAT VM will be migrated before the ESX Server is in maintenance mode.

Unfortulately VM migration manually through the vCLI could also not an option, given that DRS could start moving another candidate VM back to the ESX Server, which should enter into maintenance mode. To avoid this, should also stop the automated mode of DRR.

It would be great, if there is a command or an available option, which would make all this automatically. Since it works with the GUI, it shouldn't be so difficult start this process also the vCLI.

Perhaps it is already implemented - and I don't know about it. So any advice would be more than helpful.

Otherwise: are there other ideas (scripts may be already available), which would help here?

In fact, there are a variety of scripts provided with the vCLI that many are not aware of called "vSphere SDK for Perl utilities" and the other that hostops.pl allows you to perform various operations of the host against a specific host ESX (i), unfortunately the version implemented by VMware does not properly a vCenter cluster maintenance mode and therefore if you used He would have not evacuated running virtual machines.

Quickly, I wrote my own version which takes account of vCenter, this script must be run against vCenter with a list of host ESX (i) to perform a certain operation and the latest version of the script, it supports the two enter/exit maintenance mode.

Check out this script for instructions/requirements:

  • High utilization of the processor in Mode VSS when traffic through the internet.

    Hi all

I have a problem with the installation of VSS. The VSS service install act as a central office switch of transit for internet traffic and the problem arises when there are about 600 Mbps of traffic through the switch. We notice that there are a lot of packages being softswitch and the rate is quite high, almost like 100 to 200 k per second.

The VSS switch manages ospf and BGP and have plenty of internet routing. After investigation of high CPU usage, I noticed that the AAGR switch is full and has tried to set the course of max mls to the maximum cef and restarted the VSS service.

Unfortunately, the problem persists after restarting.

We had planned to filter the full internet routes and enable by default and ospf route only in the VSS service and restart the VSS service to make sure that the table AAGR is not overloaded.

If I fail the next step is to return to autonomous mode and hope that the processor will not pull up.

My Question: These step will prevent the issue? Suggestions or the reference similar to the problem I am facing in?

    Hello Sophie,.

unless you have a PFC 3CXL and all the DFCs the AAGR 3CXL can manage only 256 000 IP prefixes and nowdays that complete a table is in order or 310-320 000 routes.

    See

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps708/product_data_sheet09186a0080159856.html

See table 1 in the second link it tells what I wrote in the first line.

    > We planned to filter the full internet routes and enable by default and ospf route only in the VSS service and restart the VSS service to make sure that the table AAGR is not overloaded.

You should not need the device after accepting only the default route in OSPF or BGP AAGR use will be greatly reduced this is just wait a few minutes (unless there is an underlying SW bug) for the MSFC to update CFP and then all DFCs

  • Standard user can connect to the new network wireless only in local mode - no Internet pass through by the router.

My wife now takes a laptop (HP Pavilion) with her on a business trip.  The computer that runs Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2 with all updates.  I have his set as a standard user account, just to keep him out of trouble.  However, with his own account, it can connect to a new wireless network, like a hotel or business she visits could offer.  But, invariably, she gets access 'local only' - no pass Internet through connectivity.  I had to give him the information of my account as an administrator, and then she is able to connect without difficulty.

Of course, this isn't an ideal situation - standard user must be able to connect to the Internet through a new wireless network.  Otherwise, I should be able to change his account in such a way that it can be given to this authority without necessarily opening the entire system and its related vulnerabilities.
    Any help, suggestions or solutions?

  • How to export the vCLI event logs?

    Hi all

    I need your help.

I would like to know how I can export the log of events by vCLI.

and if it is possible, what the command is can.

the purpose of it, we want to make a script to the export of logs automatically.

We have same operation on vSphere Client, as a result of steps.

    Home-> events-> Export events

    Here's my environment.

    vCLI 5.0

    vCenter Server Version 5.0.0

    5.0 ESXi hosts

    * Power CLI is not installed.

    Thank you in advance.

    Kaori

    Hello

As much as I KNOW, export event logs can not be done using vCLI.

It can be done by using the vSphere client as you commented or powercli.

  • Of Windows 7 XP mode on host esx server 3i

My windows 7 release candidate virtual machine running on a VMWare ESX Server 3i (3.5.0, 123629) host does not currently have hardware virtualization, xp mode requires.  Assuming that the processors in the host server supports virtual machine are configurable to support too?  I think that AMD processors on the host will support it.

    Thank you

@gsander: as far as I know, hardware virtualization extensions are not virtualized with any product of VMWare, so XP mode does not work with Win7 as a virtual machine.  (as it says in the first link).

    @Andre:

    > But why? Is easier to create an another VM with XP

XP mode is a fully licensed copy of Windows XP, so it's really like to get two licenses for Windows; a 7, one for XP.  The limitation is that XP mode is a virtual machine running only in the installation of Win7.  In addition, MS gave XP mode integration limited to Win7.  Tests so Win7 integration may be useful to some people.  Thus, the ability to run XP Mode in a virtualized instance of Win7 is desirable.

  • Maintenance mode, unable to connect: 514 error connection to the instance of service pass vmds

    Hi all

I do a few patches manually on ESX 4.0 host.  I forgot to get into maintenance mode, tried to patch and had an error on entering maintenance mode.  So I tried to get into the mode of maintenance with the following command:

    I get these messages:

  • Turn off the power of infrastructure ESX 4.1 with VC as a guest

    Hello

We have 4 guests ESX 4.1 running in a single cluster with VC running as a VM guest.

I was wondering what are the necessary steps safely stop a cluster VMware and environment

So far, I have the following text:

1 connection to the VC server via vSphere client and note of VM guests who have the following VM guests:

    • VMware VC Server
    • Server of DB holding VMware DB
    • Domain controllers

2 judgment of vSphere client using all standard virtual computer guests:

    3. connect to the appropriate host of VM (from the list above) with the root vmware account and stopping the VM guest following in this order:

    • VC Server
    • Server of DB holding VMware DB
    • Domain controllers

It is at this point that I'm not sure-should I then log on to the hosts of the VM using the console and put into mode of maintenance and downtime of the console command line? Or would I have to do that by using the vSphere client?

    Chicken and egg situation

It would be easier and cleaner to my paperwork so I could put the server in maintenance mode and close it from the console / shell / command line (whatever your call him) but I'm not sure commands to do this?

    Maybe I'm wrong all!

In any case, help stop the environment itself would be very helpful!

    Thank you

    John

The steps you mentioned are ok and there is no problem with the closure of the host (s) using the vSphere to all customer. No need to do it from the console.

  • Activate the battery Conservation Mode in Windows 10

Lenovo ThinkPad E540 laptop running Windows 10

When I got this machine, he was running Windows 7. With the help of Lenovo Power Manager, I was able to put the battery to load only when it fell below 40% and charge to a maximum of 80%. This configuration is designed to extend the useful life of the battery. My laptop is plugged in most of the time. I only use the battery for short periods.

When I put the battery always charged as he did in Windows 7 (from 40 to 80%), but I could not find a setting to fix this to upgrade to Windows 10. At some point, I installed a critical update of Lenovo. I think it was an update of the firmware. Since then, the charges of the battery to 100% every time I plug the. I want to charge the battery the way I used to. I saw this parameter called Mode of Conservation in online discussions.

This message indicates that it is possible to access the Conservation Mode in 10 Windows through the application of Lenovo settings:

    http://www.improdia.com/tech-tips/Lenovo-battery-conservation-Windows-10/

I followed the instructions in the post above, but my Lenovo settings app does not have a power for the Conservation Mode setting. I have the status of power, always on USB, rest of battery meter, but no Conservation Mode.

Does anyone know how to access the Conservation Mode in Windows 10? Or does anyone know how to get the same functionality via another way? Thanks in advance for your help.

As far as I know, this is not possible in Windows 10. This feature has been removed. I'm sorry.

There is free of charge with the sandbox test, so flow you state sounds as it should. Direct mode test load actually does more validation would occur before returning a result.

  • If you are using windows 7 in xp mode my display settings are low and I can't adjust the parameters of why and how can I fix

why I can't change my screen with windows 7 in xp mode and how could solve the problem

    Hi tmjmech,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Answers.

    Settings and change integration features

When you run XP Mode, it is possible to change the material and data that are automatically integrated into the virtual pc. To change these settings when in Office XP Mode, click the Tools menu and select settings. You will now be in the settings of the virtual machine screen and click on the category of integration features . From there, you can specify what material and features that you want to embed or share with your desktop computer XP Mode.

    These features are:

    ·         Audio - this must be disabled so that you have the best performance. It should be noted that even with this unchecked, all its XP desktop mode will still play through the sound card of your host.

    ·         Clipboard - if this is enabled, then you will be able to copy and paste between XP Mode and your normal desktop.

    ·         Printer - Sharing host your printer with XP Mode.

    ·         Smart cards - XP Mode allows access to the host chip cards.

    ·         Disk - XP mode to access the host players, which include hard disks, CD/DVD players and removable media.

All changes made to the above settings will be persistent every time that you start the XP Mode. However, if you disable the integration of a particular session, you can click on the Tools menu and then select disable integration features. This will make it so that you do not have access to one of the resources of the host. To enable access to these resources, simply click on the option to enable integration features in the Tools menu.

Change the XP Mode Virtual Machine settings

If you find that XP Mode does not work as fast as you want to, or you want to add more features, you must change some settings in your settings in Virtual PC for XP Mode. To change these settings, you must first stop XP Mode so that it is not in a State of hibernation. To do this, click on the menu on Ctrl + Alt + Delete , and then click close on the screen that appears.

When XP Mode stopped, click the Start Menu, select all programs, Windows Virtual PC, scroll down and then click on Windows Virtual PC icon. You should now see a list of your Virtual PC, including Windows XP Mode. Right click on Windows XP Mode, and select settings. Now that Windows XP Mode is stopped, you can change the settings of your virtual machine. The parameters that you may consider to change to increase the performance and reliability are:

    1 memory
-if you find that your applications are running slowly, then you can raise it so that your applications have access to more memory system.

    2 hard drives
-you are able to add more 2 hard disks to your Windows XP Mode. So if you need to add another disk to your Windows XP Mode, you can do here. This will allow you to create a second disk on another physical drive of your computer to improve performance.

    3. cancel the disks - disks of cancellations allow you to create a base of your installation of Windows XP Mode image and then save all changes in a disc of cancellations. So if you need start from your base image, you just go back to settings and ignore the changes in your drive of cancellations. The next time that you start Windows XP Mode, you will be back to the basic configuration with any changes you have made to scrap. I suggest that everyoneturn this option on because it only increases the safety of your installation of Windows XP Mode.

When you have completed your changes, just click the OK button to save the changes.

When you then start Windows XP Mode, these settings will now be implemented.

  • Work around the EXEC Mode when connect in SSH for ASA 8.4 (2)

    Hi all

I would check with you all, is there anyone able to access the 8.4 (2) Cisco ASA CLI without needs to enter the enable password?

Currently, it is configured with GANYMEDE for CLI and ASDM access.

ASDM, we have not had any problems and be able to access and to change directly in own entry GANYMEDE credential.

However for the CLI, we need to type 'enable' and also the enable password before login.

Is there anyway that we could ignore the EXEC mode and access to the PRIVILEDGE mode directly?

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Current config:

    AAA-server xxxx Protocol Ganymede +.

    AAA-server xxxx (management) host xxxx

    Kind regards

    Danny

Unfortunately, ASA does not support the feature AAA Exec permission yet, so he can't be configured with GANYMEDE or RADIUS to directly access the privileged exec mode. We go through with authentication enable

    Like this:

    ===================

    ASA:username: *.

    ASA:password: *.

    ASA: > activate

    Password: *.

    ===================

This is because the ASA does not include the cisco-avpair = "" shell: priv-lvl = 15 "attribute."

The ASA does not support the Exec AAA authorization still features, so it cannot be configured with RADIUS or GANYMEDE.

The workaround for this problem is to manually the user to activate the mode mode switch.

It is compatible with IOS (routers/switches).

    Kind regards
