The new hard drive will interfere with user passwords?

I replaced my hard drive on my Dell Inspiron (Windows Vista Home Basics).  The new drive will interfere with my user passwords?

Mona

Hello

You do not say what user passwords you talk, after replacing the hard drive which will be then require you to reinstall the operating system

If you refer to the online user passwords (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), they will remain the same.

If you are referring to your Vista account permissions to access, with a new hard drive and you reinstall the operating system, you will need to put in place all the user accounts and passwords user again for them.

See you soon.

  • Need to reinstall the new hard drive - will resume disc do this?

My desktop came with Vista Home Premium pre-installed, I paid the extra to receive recovery disks.  I upgraded to Windows 7 and I'm sure the disc.  My hard drive crashed; If I install a new.  Can I use the recovery cd to install windows?  And if so, should I start with Vista and then go to 7 or I can just make 7?

You should be able to use the new hard disk recovery disks. Yes, it would be recommended that you start with Windows Vista, first, you do not need to reactivate Windows Vista, just proceed to install Windows 7 on Vista.

You may need to reactivate by phone:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

  • With the help of recovery on the new hard drive disks

    Hello

I have an old t160.uk of Pavilion.  The hard disk starts to sound a bit grumpy.  I have a spare I want to replace it with.  Can I create recovery discs using the partition, and then replace the hard drive and reinstall windows xp on the new drive? or the recovery disks only works on the original hard drive?

    See you soon,.

Hirroshi wrote: what determines if the new hard drive will be compatible with the recovery disk?  Could I connect the new hard drive in another Bay and try to use the recovery disk, before removing my old hard drive?

Hello Hirroshi, it seems that drives hard very little HP only work in an HP computer, or so I said. I think it has to do with some code that HP puts in the Master Boot Record, but that's just a guess. I read on the Forum that this is the case.

I suggest that you delete the partition on the replacement hard drive, and then create a new partition and format the hard drive. You should be able to use the recovery disk, if they are not damaged and that you have a valid burn.

You can try to install the replacement hard drive in the system you propose, and it can work very well. It's certainly worth a try.

Here is a link that shows how to perform a recovery facility when a hard drive is replaced.

  • R51 new HARD drive will not restore factory correctly state with discs

I caught a HDD of 80 GB on old computer my gf, and I thought I would use it to replace the 40 GB hard drive in my ThinkPad R51.  There is not really important info on my old hdd, so I just created a factory recovery disks, put on the new hard drive (both are PATA) and ran from Rescue and Recovery.  After completing restore to factory state all the new hard drive will do is Rescue and new Recovery charge.  It does not load Windows.  Is there anything else I need to do?

Shot in the hip here, but ISTR that some versions of R & R restore the image of 'restoration' in HD, then you restart to R & R and run a restore it to complete the restore of the rest of the car.

As I said, just something I've seen elsewhere.  Worth, perhaps,

  • recovery disc will work with the new hard drive

I have a HP Pavilion dm4. My hard drive died so I installed a new hard drive. The original operating system installed on the computer is Windows 7. I don't have a Windows 7 disc with the computer. If I order the Windows 7 HP recovery disk, it will install Windows 7 on my new hard drive? I got the info from COA. Thanks for any help you can provide.

If the new hard drive is having even or a larger size than the old, recovery disks will reinstall the factory OS on your new drive.

  • SMU 8108 does not start with the new hard drive

    Hello

    I am currently using SMU 8108 with SMU-1062 q.

The previous record was borken, so I had to install a new hard drive.

The new hard drive is fommatted as NTFS format, and it is currently mounted on 8108.

Unfortunately, I don't have recovery disk available to the general public so I am trying to install Windows 7 on a blank hard drive.

When you start, the LED OK PWK light is all the time, orange DRIVE LED turns on for a few seconds only when I turn on the switch.

LabVIEW RT switches are all off, I cleared CMOS several times to the Board of Directors, but the screen does not show anything.

I tried to use my DVI monitor with any other device as well, and it worked, so there is no problem with the monitor.

In addition, I tried to go in window safe mode by pressing F8 or Del it didn't work, so I can't see anything on the screen when his kick upward.

I tried to put a lot of information I can it will be very appreciated if you can help me with this problem please.

You said that you can't in Windows safe mode, you have installed Windows on the hard drive?  Are you able to get into the BIOS of the controller?

If you are not able to access the BIOS for the controller, it may be due to bad RAM.  If you are uncomfortable installing RAM and you have a few extra laptop RAM of the same type (I think it's the DDR3 for your controller) laying around, you can try to replace the RAM.

Was your hard drive damaged through certain events, or it just stop working?

  • Cloning hard drive with Clonezilla failed, gave a bad sector error message and now the original hard drive will not boot

    Original title: startup problem

I tried cloning from my hard drive with Clonezilla, and he gave me a bad sector error.  I have since run the hard drive test in bios and it passed.  Anyway, clone has failed, and now the original hard drive will not boot.  My dvd player won't turn when I try to load the Vista repair CD (Vista Home Premium 32 bit).  Clonezilla removes the start settings for the original disc?  And if so, how can I restore it?  The computer starts just a black screen with a cursor at the top left.  When I install the hard drive in a box and connect it to another computer, it shows the partitions and files all seem to be there.

    Hi DougEisenmann,

Clonezilla is not supported by Microsoft.

If you are unable to boot from the Vista repair disk then you will need to go into the system BIOS and make sure that it is configured to boot from the DVD drive.

  • Removed the HARD disk with MBR/BCD who installed Vista x 64 Business on the new HARD drive

I have vista x 64 business installed on a HARD drive, but it was (and still is) installed on an older HDD aswell and the smallest, the result being that when I removed the old hard drive to put in another computer, I was unable to boot the copy of vista on the new HARD disk as the MBR or the BCD bit that allows me to choose what vista start is on the old HDD. Using the installation DVD I can get up the command prompt and run Bootrec.exe without the old HARD disk installed, which can find the vista installation, but fails to solve the problem. I'm not an expert so I can't properly use Bootrec.exe, and startup recovery also does not work, although it seems to say that something to do with the startup has been fixed. Is it possible that I can get the computer running without the old HDD without having to reinstall vista on the new hard drive? Currently, I put the old HARD return drive to start the new installation of vista.

When you move an old hard drive to a new computer, the installed operating system will find new hardware (motherboard, etc.).

A clean install is a normal requirement, as no drivers are installed for the new hardware on the operating system.
    Thus, it will not start.

How to do a clean install:

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • How to put Windows 7 on the new hard drive without boot cd? How will I know if 32 or 64 bits? This computer yourself running windows 10?

    * Original title: windows 7 download

I have a laptop dell M4400 with windows 7 pro OA. HARD drive crashed and I replaced with a new one. How to put Windows 7 on the new hard drive without boot cd? How will I know if 32 or 64 bits? This computer yourself running windows 10?

It has probably comes with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

You can download a copy of Windows 7 Professional using the following instructions (update of Microsoft recovery software supports downloads with the COA key):

How to: What are my options for Windows 7 reinstall media?

Make sure you scroll down and read the section:

What to do if you cannot get your manufacturer recovery media, refuse to use or to buy it or the Microsoft Software Recovery Website does not work?

You can also use Windows 10 too as you have the right to it as a free upgrade:

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).

    Hello Vishal,

Welcome to the Microsoft community. I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue. I will certainly help you with the problem you are experiencing.

If you purchased a computer with installed OEM Windows 8 on it, there could be a sticker on the Tower, or in the back (in the case of a laptop) with the product key to this topic. If there is no sticker, he can be preinstalled on your system BIOS.

  • Satellite 1800-712 does not start with the new HARD drive

    Hello world.

I am currently trying to install a new HARD drive in my notebook of 1800-712.
I'm having a few trubbles as my Satellite won't start with my new HARD drive.

I upgraded my BIOS to the latest version.
The new HARD drive is a 40 GB Samsung.

Any suggestions on what I need to do to make it all works?

    THX, Philippe

    Hello

This device was shipped with 20 GB HARD drive.
    You again is 40 GB.
I guess that the BIOS does not recognize the HARD drive because of the size.

  • Satellite C650 - reinstall with the new hard drive

    Hello

The hard drive in my C650 just died so I put in a replacement, and the problem I have is that I never create a recovery disc for my laptop.

I tried to use the windows disk 7 I got with my desktop, but when I boot it I get the error ' A required CD/DVD drive driver is missing. If you have a flash driver diskette drive, CD, DVD or USB, please insert now. ".

So, I downloaded the driver for chipset support page and excerpts to a flash drive. The installation detects these drivers "ICH9" on my USB, but after loading them, I always get an error ' no new deices could be found. Make sure that the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media. ».

I checked the bios and the new hard drive is detected without a doubt.
Is there anything else I can do, short of ordering toshiba recovery disks?

    Thank you!

    Hello

    The message
    > ' Required the reader driver CD/DVD is missing. If you have a flash driver diskette drive, CD, DVD or USB, please insert now. ".
say that your CD/DVD drive is not detected.
So you need to check if the BIOS so the CD/DVD drive is listed. It should appear on the first page of the BIOS.

If you want to boot from the disk and then switch on and you press F12.
Usually, a menu should appear that allows you to choose the ODD (CD/DVD)
Choose this option and try to boot from the CD.
