The pictures are on the server: LR does not create catalog

Hi all and thanks for your help.

This is my very 1st encounter with LR and want to give it a try.

All my photos are on our server.

I received the following message when I started LR:

"Lightroom cannot vreate a catalog named"Lightroom 3 Catalog"on network"\\server\RedirectedFolders\"volume."

Can I then create the catalog on my local machine?

Thank you very much.

Deon

Deon,

Yes, you must create your catalog on a drive off the grid. Given the images are in the network is OK.
