The same drive letter may point to different locations for different processes?

The same drive letter may point to different locations for different processes?

Our users have the E: drive mapped to one place. But I need a scheduled task in order to use the E: drive to point to a different location at the same time, without affecting the mapping of moose for logged in users.

There is no work around this need of ours. This is because users are working 24 X 7 update of our data files on the E: drive, and a log file is made. We plan prevent users for a minute every night while move us / save the log file and then allow users of the resume and allow a new log file to create. Then take the saved log file and apply it to a real set of monthly backup of data files, so the backup files will be ready for a recovery after disaster. The program that applies the transactions recorded in the data files is able to apply operations to files that are considered as being in the same exact location.

I know that's not possible without resorting to the application logs a set of files on a completely different machine. But I ask.

Thank you

Dan

  • How to make a portable USB drive use the same drive letter all the time

    Original title:

I have many removable hard drives from Toshiba.  Use them for photography.  I usually connect simply, transfer photos from the DSLR camera (images raw, very big, not a camera point/rod).  When I plug in, computer automatically selects a player... F, g, H: by M or N.

Then, I use Adobe Lightroom for adjustments.  Once they are imported into Lightroom it keeps track of this record, they were on.

    PROBLEM:

If I unplug the removable hard drive, plug in at a later date, computer can randomly choose a different example M instead of H letter.
LightRoom is so impossible to find photos/images.  I would then have to re - import and start any setting completely from the beginning.

    Question:
How to direct the computer to select the same drive when I plug in a removable hard drive.

Plug in a hard drive removable, computer selects H:, can I import into LightRoom, I disconnect the removable hard drive, a week later I want to make adjustments more photography, connect the removable hard drive and FORCE/DIRECT COMPUTER TO SELECT H: AGAIN (or whatever of the original letter was).

    Hope it makes sense.

    Hello

There is a way to assign a static drive on an external USB drive letter, so you always get the same drive letter for the drive.

Click on the following link and follow the steps to change a drive letter.

  • I have win xp SP3 installed on my PC. I use several external hard drives to store video files. How can I make sure that they maintain the same drive letter, every time that I connect them?

All these hard disks are connected via the USB ports, but not all of them are connected at the same time. I use Adobe first Elements to edit videos, & if I open an adobe project it is expected that the video files will always be under the same drive letter.

Have you tried to assign drive letters using disk management?
    Mount your drive, then

    Start-> Run-> "diskmgmt.msc".

Find your player in the list, right-click on it and select "change drive letter and paths...". »

When I replaced a hard drive, I wanted the same drive letter, but he wants me to take another. How can I assign the drive letter, that I replaced. The letter is now used by another device?

Open disk management, find the drive using the drive letter you want to use, change the drive letter of this to 'Z', find the new drive, change the drive letter that you want, and then change the drive letter of the drive you have labeled it 'Z' to a drive letter of your taste.

I currently store my pictures on and an external hard drive.  Lightroom 6 was not able to find the picture momentarily files.  I inserted an external Flash DRIVE after removing the hard drive and the computer renamed the stick with the same drive letter that has been designated by Lightroom to store my photos.  I could go into my Windows 10 and reset the player to the letter that Lightroom has given at the beginning of the external hard drive.   However, I know this can happen again, if I connect any stick USD or another device, while the external hard drive is not connected to my laptop.   I found the information that I can do the new designation of the final drive by choosing a letter it is 1/2 way or higher in the alphabet.   I would like to turn an external hard drive on a strong letter, warns we hope this previous problem.   My question is, if I already have a lot of pictures on this external hardrive with the designation of the current drive, how it becomes a higher letter and have 6 Lightroom recognizes files, now under the new designation of drive letter without having to go to each photo individually and manually force Lightroom 6 find each photo.  It would take more time than I'd like to lose.  Is there a way to get just 6 Lightroom to recognize the new disk designation has changed and is able to find all of the existing files?

I have read the ADOBE LightRoom 6 manual and seem not to be able to find anything on how to do it.

    Any help would be welcome.

So in Windows, you can select a drive like q letter (or any other letter you want only towards the end of the alphabet)

Then in Lightroom, you can reconnect to the photos on q: the following instructions (see specifically 4 Figure and related text)

  • Windows 7 x 64 upgrd dv6500z disconnected network drives allow usb drive mapping to the same drive letter

    Hello

I'm having a problem with the readers of network disconnected allowing for new drive usb to their drive letter mappings. I have my laptop dv6500z home with windows 7 Home premium connected to my router wirelessly with a couple of shares of x 64. Now I turned off, trip and start. All right, the drive letters show as disconnected as they should. Now I plug in a USB key and it corresponds to the drive letter of one of the disconnected actions and not a new, unassigned drive letter. In Explorer, there will still be disconnected action description. Click on it and it accesses all my files on the USB key. In admin tools/disk management, the correct label for the USB key is displayed.

So is it a problem of HP or just a problem of Microsoft with Windows 7?

Woody, I was able to replicate that XP is not a bug but a feature. On my laptop, it originally had vista on the c drive and a recovery on the d drive partion. There are about 1 1/2 years I have upgraded Vista to XP. Then recently updated to Windows 7. kept the 3 OS's so I got triple starting capability. Then at home, I added 3 network shares, while I was using a lot of drive letters. When actions are undone, Windows maps a USB key which has not been connected before system one of the disconnected but readers still show in Explorer, the name of the drive on the part of disconnected. However, if the USB is connected to the system before, Windows appears to map a drive letter that he remembered from before.

In my case, Windows 7 has been installed recently, so there is no remebered for my USB drive letter. I was away from home, so I had a lot of disconnected shares. In addition, now that I got a 3rd OS added to the system, I used a lot of letters from the GET go by car. It's much more likely that I would meet this feature after installing Windows 7.

  • Cannot change the C: drive letter to D:

    Hello

I got an answer to a previous question about changing the drive hence my stuff is download for C: to D: drive and I did what was listed and restarted my computer, but he remained always the C drive, please ask some ways for me to change my drive C: to D:

    Thank you

    Hello Paula,.

I would like to know some information about the problem so that we can help you better.

Did you receive an error message when the C: drive letter change?

Thank you for details on the issue.

Unfortunately, drive letter cannot be changed for the C: drive as it acts as a boot partition.

Some programs make reference to specific drive letters. If you change a drive letter, it could be that these programs do not work correctly.

Windows 7 can help to back up the system partition by preventing reformatting or deletion of it, and if the system partition is distinct from a (as recommended) boot partition, it will not automatically assigned a drive letter.

    For reference:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/what-are-system-boot-partitions#1TC=Windows-7

However, you can create another partition to save your data and files.
    Reference:
Create and format a hard disk partition
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/create-format-hard-disk-partition#create-format-hard-disk-partition=Windows-7

Note: Formatting a volume will destroy all data on the partition. Be sure to back up any data you want to save before you begin.

    I hope this information helps.

Please let us know if you need more help.

    Thank you

  • System Restore error: "the changes to the G: drive after this point cannot be reversed, because the drive has been either excluded from monitoring system restore or has been disabled or deleted.»

I had some problems with my computer recently I knew could be solved with the system restore.  Then I went into system restore and went to a restore point that was a few weeks back.  After I clicked on it and pressing the ok button, the following message appeared: "the changes made to the G: drive after this point cannot be reversed, because the drive has been either excluded from monitoring system restore or has been disabled or deleted.»  I let it continue and do the restore.  My computer has rebooted and came up with an error in system restore that says restore failed.  It's the same thing with other restore points.  I don't know why I get this error because I not made any changes to this hard drive except for copy of a document word on him.  I thought that the System Restore monitors removable disks.  Anyone know what is happening here and how I can get the restoration of the system to operate without the mistakes to come?

I have Norton.  Disable the Tamper Protection works.  I also noticed that since the G: drive was a portable hard drive, System Restore wanted to exercise oversight.  He wants to monitor all hard drives.  Turn on external and portable hard disks prevents tracking system restore changes to the readers.  I don't think anyone would have the system restore review external drives anyway.  It is not necessary.

  • How can I correct the wrong drive letter in the Collections only - no files?

I moved my Lightroom Catalog from another computer. All my files are correct, but my Collections records point to a drive letter does not exist, and I get the error that there are duplicates.

How can I fix the drive letter in the Collections only? Find all missing Photos does not work because it applies only to folders and files have the correct drive letter.

    Charles

I think the best thing to do is to copy the old catalog of the any file to the new computer and place it in its own nine empty folder. Then change in Windows, the drive letters E on the new computer becomes G (as it was on the old computer). Then double-click the Lightroom from the old computer catalog to open it, and everything should be good.

I use LR5.7 based on Windows 7 and got a few pictures 150 000 in a catalugue. Could import, export and rendering speed be increased, if I store the LR catalog on the same drive as my photos? Today, the program, the catalog and photos are all on different drives.

Import and export and rendering speed depends on the CPU. The disk contributes only a negligible amount to import and export and rendering speed. You would spend more time to pass the photos that you would gain in speed.

  • For the SviInternalDisk drive letter reassignment

    Hi all

I use composer to deploy a set of persistent linked clones and I am running into a problem with the SviInternalDisk drive letter assignment.  The attribution to this particular drive that interferes with a script that assigns F: to a shared drive on the network, we run F:.  I can come in and change it by disk management in XP, but if I recompose what change is lost.  So my question is twofold.  First of all, this change should stick because it is a persistent linked clone?  Secondly, is it possible to reassign the drive automatically letter?  I understand a script may do that, but I wonder if there is a way to accomplish this directly by the view.  I'm under view 4.0.1.  Thanks in advance for any help.

    Welcome to the community

    > First of all, this change should stick because it is a persistent linked clone?

No, persistent related clones get configured letter during the Create Pool Wizard. Then recompose or any operation will override manual changes

    > Secondly, is it possible to reassign the drive automatically letter?

In View 4.5, there is an option to change the drive letter for the persistent disks

  • Location of the camera raw cache on the same drive as LR?

I know that cache camera raw should be the fastest disk for optimal performance.

I was wondering if it should be on the same drive as the catalog, or isn't it important?

I wonder whether or not you will be able to detect a difference. My Camera Raw cache is on the same drive with my Lightroom Catalog program. But I installed an SSD. Once Lightroom is loaded and running, I couldn't determine a difference in performance. The program loads faster, but as soon as it is running I could not see a real difference.
