  Try to use the salvation of three fingers (C-A-D, Ctrl + Alt + Delete) to bring up the task
  Manager - then click on file > new task (run...)

  If one of the system icons is out, you can reactivate the as follows:

  Right-click on the taskbar and select Properties. This will bring up the tab "properties of menu taskbar and start. It's where you mentioned, it is gray. The type of report should read "Hide icon and notifications", change that to "Show icon and notifications".
