  I've just set up a double screen (laptop and external monitor) but the new monitor is very bright and I'm having difficulties to reduce the brightness. I tried following the instructions from microsoft but whenever it only reduces the brightness of laptop and not monitor. Or if I have just selected screen there is no nothing. Can anyone suggest what is the problem or what I could do wrong?

  If you have adjusted the settings on the screen itself, have all built in contrast and brightness settings.

  If it does not respond to changes in settings from Windows this would indicate the display is being saturated. Have you tried the monitor on another computer to see if it falls within normal limits?

  Normal for thie keys Fn + F7 to increase brightness and Fn + F6 to decrease. But the different laptop models use different key combinations, so I would check your user manual to see which ones is correct for your laptop.

  Battery operation, it seems that the display brightness is automatically adjusted by the lightness of the contents of the screen.

  I just made this account for the validation of a problem I encounter with my L500-1ZP Satellie.
  When starting my computer my brightness is perfectly fine for the first few seconds, but when the login screen appears, it is reduced by half.

  It might be possible that ATI catalyst changes the brightness automatically.
  Try this:
  Uninstall the ATI Catalyst graphics card and remove the display driver.
  Reboot the laptop and clean the registry using the CCleaner.
  Then download and install the latest ATI display driver of the European driver Toshiba page. Reboot the laptop.

  Different laptops have different combination of FN keys. On Toshiba laptops, you can change the display by pressing FN + F6/F7 and on other laptops, you have other F - keys for this. There is no standard for these FN keys.

  Short story about what happened from my side, I got my laptop 3 years ago and the display screens were not there, until I reformatted my laptop a few months ago to windows 7 Professional (a win7 Ultimate) and the screen came with it, now I'm on windows 10 and they are still there
  
  Major problem I have with them are the fairly high FPS drop they cause, not to mention those bugs

  I've seen similar, as in games or overlays of user interface overlays. You have installed a program to show that?  Check in your "hidden icons", down to your left. Y at - it an icon which shows, if so can "out you"?  Is it in the Control Panel, all programs that say "overlay" or something?

  The last thing that I can say, go to the Task Manager and go to the Startup tab. Is there something in there that can refer to a display on?

  I have a Probook 6570 b with processor i5 here. He is running on W7 x 64 professional. As in all computers, we decided to replace the hard drive for an SSD. After replacing the hard drive and reinstallig W7 and drivers, there is a problem that I can't fix. It seems that I can't get the Fn keys for brightness screen work. The others work, volume gives a nice popup, evenso buttons additional display.

  I can't give you the graphics driver because your laptop can come with 2 different graphic configurations.

  Yes, I found the solution of brightness of the screen. I downloaded and installed the graphics (Intel Sandy Bridge Graphics Driver for Win 7) driver. Now my problem is solved and brightness can be controlled via keyboard keys f2 & f3

  If you want to see graphics on the screen, you will need to download and install MediaSmart SmartMenu here (version 3.1.2.2 for 32/64-bit Win7).

  Before you do that you must have installed at least one application of the MediaSmart software package. The best choice will be in my opinion:

  MediaSmart DVD here (version 4.1.4328 for 32/64-bit Win7)

  Above solution may have a fault. When you will be setting the volume for example while playing games or videos online then active window can be inappropriate to display visual effects. If this can be annoying you then uninstall system MediaSmart software and use another product that is:

  3VRX here (version 2.5 for 32/64-bit Win7)

  the problem has been resolved by going to VAIO Control Center, click on the Image quality, click Brightness disply on off.

  By the way 10 minutes I still have bright office that was happening second befor and I am so happy.
