The Ubuntu VM Linux conversion to 98% grub error failure

The system is a system ubuntu 10. The error I get is "FAILURE: an error occurred during conversion: ' GrubInstaller::InstallGrub: /usr/lib/vmware-converter/installGrub.sh failed with return code: 127 and message: installation of GRUB 1 on (hd0)... /vmware - updateGrub.sh: 59: grub:
' not found error install GRUB error through chroot vmware - updateGrub.sh in/mnt/p2v-src-root '.

The journal points out to see the ' error: can't set the destination virtual machine.

I was so happy when I saw how fast the conversion was moving along. I am using vCenter Converter Standalone 5. I know I asked a lot of questions in that last days and I really appreciate all the help. Please, help me again! Thank you

This syntax works for me. You don't need to edit the file grub.cfg, but grub-install script, which (in my case), is under/usr/sbin/grub-install. You have to put these lines at the top of the file (well, after the #! / bin/sh line).

The idea is that the converter is running grub-install-v to detect version and in this way, we return a GRUB2 version in a recognizable format, so it can detect the version correctly and properly.

Linux uses a different label than Windows. Windows using C, D, E... drive, but linux uses sda1, sda2, sda3 (sda means the disc and 1,2,3, partition) labels for partitions. The sda2 partition is probably the 100 MB system. Linux also uses different file systems incompatible with NTFS/FAT32 for Windows file systems. The most common are EXT2/3/4 and also swap which is something like a pagefile (pagefile.sys) on Windows. You can delete the partition HP_TOOLS of linux, but if everything works and you do not need more partitions don't do that. There are stored diagnostic utilities. However, you can create a USB key with the same properties as HP_TOOLS partition:

In my tests I couldn't use a host physical diskwith a Windows 7 without setting the disc 'offline '.

Using Linux or 2003, you don't have this problem.

  • Since the update to Thunderbird worm. 41 it is fixed as the preferred application for browsing the web in Linux Mint 17.2?

What could be the cause of Thunderbird to set as the favorite in Linux Mint 17.2 browser client. If I reset it to Firefox, the next time I open Thunderbird, it still resets the preferred setting Thunderbird client. When I open Firefox, it pops up a window saying that this isn't the default browser, asking if I want to change. When I click Yes, any link I clicked in Thunderbird previously will now appear in new tabs.

    How can I fix it?

Linux Mint just put update to Firefox_41.0 + linuxmint2 + rafaela and now Firefox works fine with Linux Mint.

  • Why can I not use 'Open the message in a conversation' more?

We are 4 users and both of them have version 24.3.0, and two are on 24.4.0.
We use the option "open message in the conversation" a lot and all of a sudden this option is no longer available. Is there a setting that could have been changed to make it happen?
The only thing that has changed is that I have rearranged our records using "manually sort folders" - this could it be?

All messages with a thread of before yesterday are always available with "open message in the conversation", but anything in the afternoon yesterday do not display the option when you right-click and using the swift short ctrl O does nothing.

Any suggestions, what could be wrong are very welcomed.

    Thanks guys,.

I think I managed to do the sorting now. I've done the following:
See help at the top and choose "restart with disabled modules.
    Are you sure...? Press "restart".
It will now ask you if you want to start in safe mode. Choose this option.
The "manually sort folders work" is now disabled.
Now close Thunderbird and wait a bit.
Now open again, check if you have the Add-ons back - manually sort folders.
Try to click an email again to view the message in a conversation.
And so it works with adding on and open it in the conversation. Very strange but if it works, I'm happy.

  • Satellite U940 - backlight on the keyboard in Linux

In addition to Windows 8, I installed Linux Mint 14 cinnamon on my Satellite U940-101 (now I have a sort of dual boot by activating the UEFI option in Bios power switch). Everything works fine, except for the lighting of the keyboard under Linux.

According to other forums, the only possibility to activate the backlight is to disable ACPI in the Bios. The problem is that in the Bios of the U940-101 (Bios Version 1.20), there is no option, at least I'm not and there is also that no Bios update available yet.
Does anyone know how to activate the backlight of the keyboard in these circumstances?

    Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, keyboard backlight is controlled by the specific tool of Toshiba and it is designed for Windows operating system only, so I put t think that the BIOS update will or can help you with this.

I did recently on my HP ProBook 450 G2 Kubuntu Linux 15.10 running.

A new version of the BIOS (01.16 Rev.A 1 December 2015) was available, but for Windows only.

What I had to do to install the BIOS under Linux:

    * Download the exe file (for example: sp74048.exe): this is an archive

    * unpack with 7zip

    * go to my laptop configuration: restart, press [ESC] >

Configuration of the BIOS F10 > MAIN > system update BIOS > BIOS update using local media

    * read the instructions:

"Place the system on a FAT32 partition no BIOS BIN file more

on the system or on a removable USB hard drive

    under the folder "Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New.

Then, add or verify that the HP Bios update utility (HpBiosUpdate.efi)

and the signature file (HpBiosUpdate.s12) are

on the same partition FAT32 under

the path to the following folder: "Hewlett-Packard\BIOSUpdate. »

    * Take a flash drive, create the folder ""Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\ " "

copy the whole folder "BIOSUpdate" since the original installation file for her

create the "New" folder and copy the bin on it (in my case "M74_0116.bin")

    * If at the end, the flash drive looks like this:

    \---Hewlett-Packard

    + - BIOS

    | \---New

    |      Mxx_xxxx. bin

    |

    \---BIOSUpdate

    all files here

    * place the flash drive in the laptop and "BIOS update using local media" hit the button [I accept] below "the system BIOS will be updated immediately.'." "

Then update the BIOS HP appears saying: the system BIOS is updated day. > writing new BIOS Image. > Veryfying new BIOS Image. > restart.

    Fact.

It is really beyond me why HP does not provide a simple archive with the appropriate directory structure and a readme file so that anyone could update the BIOS regardless of operating system.

  • Disk image to update the firmware in linux?

I recently bought the a Ultra II SSD 240 GB and I wanted to make sure I'm using the latest firmware. To my surprise, there is no way to update the firmware in Linux.

My current firmware version is X31200RL (the description of disk indicates this)

    It is the most recent?

Are there links to the upgrade image that I missed? Even if you can confirm that I am on the latest firmware at the moment, I would like to be able to improve in the future if a new appears.

A simple link to download the iso file would be sufficient, given that most Linux users are users anyway.

    Hello Purplehaze412,

Thank you for your message.  What kind of microphone do you have?  It's USB or it plug into the microphone as the speakers or headphones port?
    If it uses the headphone:
Click "Start" > click on "Control Panel" > double-click "sounds and Audio devices".
    Select the tab "Audio".
Under "Sound recording" you can change the default device?
If it is USB, try the following:

  • RAC: Installing several "different SID" RAC installs on the same Unix/Linux server...

    Hello my good people.

I had to see if this is possible.

Lets just keep things simple from the start.

    Let's say I have 2 Linux servers called "nodes 1 and 2.

Nodes 1 and 1 have an installation of RAC 11 GR 2 running with the $ORACLE_SID defined as "XEV".

    NOW,.

This is where I ran into some trouble.

I have an another Oracle database that I need to install "RAC 11 GR 2" but the $ORACLE_SID will be different and it will be called 'Kai '...

But I want to do it on the same servers Linux two 'nodes 1 and 2'... You following me now?

So, in other words, I have 2 totally different databases that need to be "CARS" which will have to live on the same 2 nodes?

    Is it STILL Possible?

Please let me know... This could be a "show stopper"...

Yes, it is possible. And here is the easy way to do it... fire upward the database Creation Assistant (DBCA). The utility will create another data base, same CARS, on the same server. It is also for the databases punctual too. The DBCA Wizard will ask you a few questions and you will have this second database running on the same cluster Oracle RAC in no time.

If it is possible to have multiple databases running at the same time, remember that each needs its share of the resources of the operating system. So make sure you have plenty of CPU, RAM and able to support all the running instances on the node for disk i/o.

    Brian
