the uncompressed with 6 Lightroom Catalog backup

It is said that Lightroom 6 compress the backup of the catalog in a zip file.

When I try with a small test catalog it works very well.

However when I backup my real catalog (75 000 photos, 7.5 GB) the file is not compressed. LR6 behaves exactly like the LR5.

I tried several times but it's always the same.

Do you have anyone encountered the same problem?

Any advice?

Thank you.

Michel (Paris)

Jao,

Unlike the previous version, Lr6 creates a compressed zip file when the backup is performed.

You must decompress it, a ZIP, take out of the Zip file is located, before trying to open it.

Preference then copy and paste it to the same location where your 'master' catalogue previously worked.

This keeps the database links in the catalog to your images. (and avoids the problem of the use of a catalog of your backup as your 'master' catalogue location).

That is easily solved by having the option catalog by default in the set preferences or the real of the real catalog path, mine is D:\Lightroom 6 Catalog\Lightroom 6 Catalog.lrcat, or have imposed on the most recent catalog. With this second, and by default, the set LR option will start with the last catalog that has been opened. All you have to do is to re - open your real catalog file > open catalog (and it will appear in the list box menu to open the recent item).

  • Cannot open the 5.3 Lightroom Catalog. Download «...» It is not writable and cannot be opened"message.

    Hello world

I'm having a problem opening a lightroom catalog. I get a message "Lightroom can't use the catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened.

The catalogue and thousands of RAW files are stored on an external drive.

Here are the steps that caused the problem in my view:

1 has worked with the catalog on my laptop. Disconnected the disk without closing first Lightroom (big mistake).

2 connect the external hard drive on desktop PC and did extra work. Closed Ligtroom (office) and disconnected the disk.

3 reconnect the drive of the laptop while original catalogue is always open (see #1 above). Clicked on an image at which point Lightroom crashed and closed by itself.

The problem now is that the catalog opens is no longer on computers. Any attempt to open the results in the message "Lightroom can't use the catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened. There is no lock or log file that can be deleted, just the lrcat file and tons of files with preview of the data.

I hope this isn't a lost cause and I can still recover the catalog. There are 2 work days.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

Ok. I found a solution. As Ligthroom catalog is a SQLite database, you can use a database tool to fix it. Just download SQLite www.sqlite.org for your OS (Windows 7 in my case) and unzip into C:\SQLite for ease of use. Copy your catalog corrupted the C:\SQLite file as well as to keep things simple.

At the command prompt start > run, type 'cmd' and press ENTER. This opens the command prompt where you will need to run the following commands:

    1 cd sqlite

    2. echo .dump | SQLite3 yourcatalogfilename.lrcat > tempcatalog.sql

    3 sqlite3 - init tempcatalog.sql newcatalogfilename.lrcat

After the execution of line 3, you may or may not see error messages. No worries, it simply truncated faulty records that is what causes the catalog to crash.

Now, copy the newcatalogfilename.lrcat into your lightroom catalog file and run it. You should be able to get things up and running to where you left, or to the point where original Lightroom Catalog has been corrupted in first place.

I hope this helps. It took me a few hours to find a solution, but it saved me at least 2 days of work. Original credit goes to the author of the article according to http://www.simplyness.com/more-photography-tips/recover-corrupted-unrepairable-lightroom-3 - catalog - with - sqlite.html. It seemed to have worked for Lightroom 3 and still worked for Lightroom 5.3 in my case.

  • The Catalog backup of opening after the failure of the computer

    Hi people

    I'm obviously a dunce...

I back up my images and catalogue on a second internal drive and two external drives...

Recently, I suffered a complete failure of PC which has resulted in the 22nd of startup that need to be replaced and reinstalled all the software...

"I use LR 2.6 and thought I could open LR and go to"

FILE / open catalog... / and then select the second internal drive that has all the files intact and open the catalogue...

    But when I select the required catalog, I get the message;

"Restart Lightroom with this catalog? ."

To use this catalog, Lightroom must close the current catalog and restart. You want to relaunch Lightroom with 0950\Lightroom Catalog.Ircat 2 E:\Users\Justinted\Pictures\CatBackup\2010-01-08? "

I then click "Restart" but just LR closed its doors and does nothing?

    What I do bad people?

    See you soon

    Just

Because you have moved the images to a new disk, Lightroom knows not where they are.  Right-click on the folder in the Lightroom library and choose Synchronize.  Then you can show Lightroom where you moved the images.

  • How to fix my Lightroom catalogs so that I can find all my photos?

Hello, before you start, yes I know I made some big mistakes over the years to implement lightroom catalogs and it became a disaster.

First of all, I have about catalogues en and seen the lack of pictures in most.  Even though I know the photo is I can see them on a photo after an exhaustive search.  I try and have lightroom locate in finder, but does not work in 99% of the time. Probably cause it has been moved or changed the name.  Photo of thew can also be in several catalogs, don't ask me why and how, because somehow the name changed, I have a big mess.

The pictures are spread over three discs in my imac and two drives connected to my IMac, which, according to me, the easiest way is to take all my photos and load them on a Lightroom Catalog and load them among the readers, so that everything is new.       But how to do this, I'm not sure.  I think that I create a new catalog and that import each photo from the disk, or maybe that I can do it by folder or maybe there's a faster way? This will change the name of the pictures and do all the other obsolete catalogs.

Maybe there is an easier way, HELP!  OTHER SOLUTIONS.  I HAVE ABOUT 20 000 PICTURES

    THANKS DAVE

    I have

Yes, it looks that you want to start, it's probably the best thing to do at this point... but... it is likely that you will lose changes and metadata that you have added to the photos. (The alternative is to solve problems, but it seems difficult and time-consuming account bound to the description above, but certainly possible).

It also seems that you want to change your workflow. I highly recommend a workflow where the photos are never moved after importation (EXCEPTION: If you move photos to a new computer or a new hard disk, you must move them). And you must do this "cold turkey", never, not even once, you will pass the photos (with the only exception I mentioned). I highly recommend a workflow where you use keywords and other metadata to allow you to organize and search; rather than to organize and search through folders.

To start again... you can move photos anywhere you want what they are using your operating system. (Remember, I said never move them after you import, so moving them before you import are correct). In Lightroom, select file-> new catalogue, give the catalog name in the dialog box that appears, and then import the photos using the Add option to import them from their existing location (or you can use the option COPY and Lightroom can put the photos in a beautiful series skillfully arranged in folders by date of capture). And NEVER move again (don't forget there is one exception), use the keywords and other metadata to organize and find.

Thereafter, use a catalog only. This will make your life much easier. Do not even consider the use of multiple catalogs (unless you have completely separate and unrelated topic, such as personal and professional photos).

  • Lightroom catalog management

I noticed a lot of people use Dropbox or similar services to sync that Lightroom catalogs between their computers. I did the same thing but have noticed the size of the catalog grows and will reach a point where I'll run out of space in my sync folder. I'm sure that others have seen it so I'm looking for suggestions for how to manage the size of a lightroom catalog.  Those of you with large libraries do not hesitate to share your tips here. The only thing I can think is to break down my pictures in categories and for each separate use catalogues. But that looks like it would be only a temporary solution. Not to mention complicated when it came to the sorting and also pick them up again.

It is best to distinguish between catalog (lrcat extension) and records of previews. Any smart insights folder? Perhaps just remove the regular previews folder.

  • Cannot locate the files after 'Move' Lightroom 4.1

During the import specifically 'Moving' a selection of photos of a place on the drive internal to another location on the internal disk, after that I scored the photos with keywords, Lightroom crashed.

Now when I go to the previous import pictures are not found. Don't have files to the location to make me move. When I do a search for images with the keywords that I have these images with the tag, I can't locate. I don't see them in the trash either.

Now, I don't know where are these images. It's very bad. I think I'll use the Finder to move the images first, then "Add" in Lightroom afterwards. It's a good thing I paid attention when I did the import.

    Peter,

FWIW, I wouldn't trust function Move Lr for anything other than a few tens of files in the same drive. If I need to move files from one disk to another, I will always use Finder because the originals are not deleted when a standard shift is done, but moves in Lr means that the originals are removed when the move is completed. The problem with this is that you are blind to what actually happened. If a problem, it is usually too late to do something.

    Questions 1)

Not because the LRDATA file is fair previews, what LR displays on your screen for a faster loading of the image and will be recreated. The previews only stored in the folder LRDATA is the basic overview created at time of importation for the display of thumbnails and previews of 1:1 for images that you have actually looked in the Loupe View or I guess that appears in the develop module.

He get all the data to create the image themselves file extracts.

If you have several files on your system that have pictures in them and you select one of them that you have not looked at in a while, you will notice LR creation of previews for these images, there will be 3 white dots in the upper right corner of the thumbnail. It's LR creation of previews for the thumbnail view. If you scroll quickly in the grid view, you'll notice a few thumbnails of images are gray, until you stop scrolling, then the upper left tile will come in clear view and the white dots will appear on the other images. It's LR creating previews for those of other images. Once LR created the preview of thumbnails that are on your screen, white spot will disappear. If you scroll down again, you will see more white dots

If you switch to another folder that LR begins again create preview images in this folder. The total number of previews created and stored based on caching of the preview you have in the catalog settings dialog in the management of the files tab.

If not, you need not the LR Previews.lrdata folder. Whenever LR is not very good this folder with a catalog he recreates it to store previews in.

  • Lighroom opens with a window telling me that the "Lightroom Catalog" is already open is not possible since I just restarted my computer?

Lightroom opens suddenly with a message "you already have open Lightroom Catalog. Close the other version of Lightroom? Never happened before, and master windows task says I have no other lighroom open?

The message says that you have an open CATALOG.

What this means, is that the last time you used Lightroom you don't close properly Lightroom and he left the CATALOGUE in a State "locked."  Maybe the computer crashed, or you just turned off?

    The fix-

First - find out where your catalog is stored.

Open the Explorer/finder on your site CATALOG and delete the file that has a name that ends in "... lrcat.lock."

Do not delete anything! Do NOT delete the file ending by "... lrcat ' (i.e. your catalogue with all your work!)

    Then restart lightroom.

The .lock file is a temporary file that is always created when you open a catalog with Lightroom, to prevent several users the same catalog to open at the same time.

At the opening, it says Lightroom - opening catalog: catalog Lightroom - 2.Ircat, then a Popup comes up saying Failed Assertion and the program closes. I checked to make sure that the photos folder is under the directory of the user and the registry redirects to the right/directory of the user file. The catalogues are stored in a subdirectory of Lightroom in the photos subdirectory. You need to resolve without losing all the catalogs.

  • Virtual copies are not synchronized in a second Lightroom Catalog even if the metadata are written in XMP and synchronization with the metadata has been selected

    Dear community,

I use a Mac with 5.7 of Lightroom which is configured to store all the metadata in the xmp files. The Lightroom Catalog is stored locally on the Mac and contains only references to images and their xmp files that are stored on a network device. There is another Mac with the same setup with a local separate Lightroom Catalog and access to the same images on the network device.

At a starting point, the two Lightroom catalogs are identical - they refer to the same images on the network device and contain the same metadata.

When I update the properties of the image on the first Mac, these changes are reflected in the xmp file. After using the option 'synchronize' with activated "metadata synchronization" on the second Mac, the modified image properties are visible on the second Mac. It is very good.

However, when I create a virtual copy on the first Mac, I realize that the corresponding xmp file is updated. However, even after the synchronization, the virtual copy is not visible on the second Mac. I can change the properties of the image of the original image and get these changes replicated to the second Mac, but the virtual copies remain the first Mac.

What should I do also virtual copies get synchronized?

Thank you very mich for your support.

    Best regards

    Peter

However, when I create a virtual copy on the first Mac, I realize that the corresponding xmp file is updated.

As far as I know, xmp does not contain information about the virtual copies. If this method to attempt to synchronize two catalogs will not work.

Better you should use the file-> Export catalog on a single computer and then file-> import from another catalog on another computer.

I am currently using Lightroom 4. I bought the IMac with the largest memory, but he has quickly filled. To conserve space on my computer, I bought a hard drive and I tried to get my lightroom back up there. (I don't know if I did it correctly or not) Now, all my photos in Lightroom are "offline or missing", and I have no idea what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess you mean not memory and disk space, you want to clear space on the internal drive. Is this correct?

If you have moved your photos somehow (this is not a backup), please follow these instructions to reconnect photos in Lightroom. Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing

In addition, you must (it is obligatory) make real backups of your database catalog and photos, that means accurate identical copies, made by a method automated and placed on a different physical disk than the originals. Lightroom allows you to make backups of your files of catalog on a regular basis, it is an option under the catalog settings. To make backups of your photos, you need some third party software to do.
