The upgrade of the MacBook (13-inch, mid 2010) HDD and RAM

Hi all!

Before I get started here are my system specs:

MacBook 13 inch, mid-2010 (white)

Model: A1342

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 320 M 256 MB

Serial number: 451244SHF5W

Software: OS X El captain

OK here's what I've done the research and understand from my research since a page archived, and and some comments I've read as well:

According to, saying that most of this computer can manage is a 750 GB hard drive, yet I go to and when I look at the SSD (which I can't afford) says that this computer can be installed with a 1 TB SSD. Does this mean I could install a hard 1 TB? This computer can manage a second 500 GB hard drive at all? My second Question is in what regards the memory now, I go to page archived and is no longer being updated by Apple, it says most who manages this computer is 2 GB to 4 GB. I am not convinced. Is not possible to move to 8 GB to 16 GB or more on such a system? I'm just curious, I bought this from a seller on eBay who reconditions the Apple laptops and I bought this for a member of the family. If none of these improvements are possible I send this computer back and get my money back. Thanks for the help. I need a response as the end of today! AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

It's the right information:

A model of Macbook 2010 7 identifier, 1 will support up to 16 GB of RAM (download the OWC) ite

You can install a SATA HDD/SSD currently available that are 2 TB of capacity.

You can install a "data cube" instead of for a second HDD, but as this Macbook DVD drive can have a 2 TB of HARD disk installed, I see little interest to do unless you have an extraordinary amount of data.

I just bought this Seagate 1 TB SATA SSHD 54.

Is it possible that I can clone the old hard drive (250 MB) on this new disc hard safely?

A video supposed to be removing the old disk, replace it with the new hard drive, use a SATA adapter cable to connect the old drive to MBP.

After that, use 'Super Duper '...

My question is, has anyone tried to do these updates?

All suggestions are welcome! Thank you in advance. I bought a new battery, upgrade the RAM and now the SSHD (no SSD. ) Forward to the last step. I don't know if I'll really have a more rapid aging, but I am hopeful!

I got Seagate SSHDs in my Mbps, and will not otherwise by installing an OSX than any other type of HARD drive.

I suggest that you install it in a closed enclosure and connect to your MBP via USB.

Open disk utility > erase and format the SSHD for Mac OS extended (journaled) and a GUID partition.

Use a third party application like Carbon Copy Cloner (not free, but worth the price) to copy all data from the drive HARD internal as well as the recovery partition.

Start the MBP with the OPTION key and select the new SSHD.

If it starts the MBP, proceed to the physical exchange of hard disks.

They have good tools to find compatible parts for your Mac models.  The OWC took is here

OWC tends to have the most detailed information on the Mac.  If I look to the top of the part to OWC and review specifications.  OWC offers often information based on the Mac-specific tests.  If Crucial offer something similar for a substantially lower price, buy it from Crucial.  I'm sure they have a refund is not political, if a part they say is compatible.  I bought the RAM and SSD both Crucial and OWC.  From my experience, be it high quality.

For the 2010 iMac, OWC also offers a "kit" (with the tools and support) to replace the hard drive of 3.5 inches with a 2.5-inch SSD.  Eventually, if it's a 27-inch iMac, I think that you can Add the SSD instead of replace the hard drive.  And they have self-produced how-to videos on the process, related to many of their lists of products.  OWC provides a lot of information with added value and service for Mac users.

OWC also offers kits to replace the optical drive on some Macs (including MacBooks) with an SSD (as a secondary internal drive).

I wonder if the drive I have is suitable in optical drive space (I know I may need to use an adapter). Is this possible?

You need something like this.  It is made especially to mount your current HARD drive, there is no problem with the adjustment...

    Hi csaszardesign,

    Please visit Apple support communities.

It seems that you are not able to use AirPlay Mirroring of your MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid 2010) to your Apple TV. Some use AirPlay to display video from your Mac to a TV high definition, looks like AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or later MacBook Pro:

If you go to the Apple menu > System Preferences, click on monitors and do not see the option to "See the mirroring of the options in the menu bar when it is available," your Mac does not meet these requirements.

  • Need help to install Windows 8.1 on the partition, bootcamp on Macbook Pro 15 "mid-2010 w / no optical drive"

I tried for almost a week in all possible ways to get windows installed on a boot camp partition on my main SSD 1 TB drive as a partition, or on my HARD drive, which is installed in place of the optical drive.  So far, everything I tried to give me some sort of error at some point in the process.  It seems that many of them are case by case, so I thought that I invite you all and see if you can help!

I use a Macbook Pro 15 "mid-2010 that I improved with a 1 TB SSD drive as the startup disk.  My optical drive was not functional, so I moved my old 500 GB HARD drive to the location of the optical Bay.  I am also under the latest version of El Capitan (10.11.6)
    Here are my system specs:

    Presentation of the material:

    Model name: MacBook Pro

    Model identifier: MacBookPro6, 2

    Processor name: Intel Core i7

    Processor speed: 2.8 GHz

    Number of processors: 1

    Total number of cores: 2

(By heart) L2 Cache: 256 KB

    L3 Cache: 4 MB

    Memory: 8 GB

Processor speed of interconnection: 4.8 GT/s

    Boot ROM version: MBP61.0057.B11

Version of the SCM (System): 1.58f17

What I tried (from what I remember):

I tried to change the Bootcamp info.plist file for my version of the macbook pro to use a USB stick for the installer.  It seems to have installed correctly but once I partition the disk and restart the computer, it gets stuck on a white screen with the Apple logo and I am forced to make a hard stop and then hold down option to boot into OS X, recovery, or the EFI Boot.

If I go through the windows installation to start the EFI system, I get an error of:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk.  The selected disk is a MBR partition table.  On EFI systems, Windows cannot be installed on GPT disks. »

I also tried to create a partition by using disk utility, and that too made me an error in the installation of windows.

So far, the only way that I'm away from windows to run at all has been using the free trial of VMware Fusion 8... but I intend to use windows for more intensive tasks like audio pro, and merger simply does not offer the performance necessary to run these programs.  I'm hoping to install windows 8.1 on my internal SSD or HARD drive, regardless of the work - as long as OS X and files associated with it are left alone.

If someone could help me please understand this point, I would really appreciate it!

    Thank you

If your computer has an optical drive, you must use the optical drive to install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant.

    Hi sonalnj,

I understand that you cannot synchronize your iPhone as iTunes is requested it must be updated. I can help you with that.

According to the technical specifications for a 6 s iPhone, you need a Mac running OS X v10.8.5 or later version with iTunes 12.3 or later. Because you are on OS X 10.6.8 your version of iTunes is up to date with this OS.

    iPhone 6 s Tech Specs

Now to fix that, you need to update your Mac OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion or OS X 10.11 El Capitan. If you want to go to the Mountain Lion, you can do it with the first link below. The cost will be $19.99 and a code will be delivered to you if you can download it via the Mac App Store. Once you have upgraded, be sure to make all software updates to go with him to get the latest version of iTunes.

    OS X Lion mountain

Now the other option is to move to OS X 10.11 El Capitan, and is a free update that you can do right in the Mac App Store, if you meet the system requirements. Take a look at the following article for more details on how to do it.

Update of OS X El Capitan

  • Question about webcams with Macbook Pro 13-inch, mid 2010

Bear with me as I am the most fundamental basic Mac users. I am currently using a MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid 2010) with OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 I don't use Skype or FaceTime or something like that. Recently, I joined an online course in which they said I need a webcam, headset and microphone so that I can communicate with my instructor and discussions in class.

I have really no idea what hardware inside is on my laptop. Is the built in camera something that could be used for this purpose? Or do I need to buy these separately three elements to make this work? And if yes, are you easy to install and can anyone recommend something good, but also low-cost as possible.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Your built in FaceTime, camera is sufficient. This is the idea. outdoor cameras are mostly a thing of the past. If the internal webcam is broken, an external is always an option repair vs.

You may need their proprietary software to connect to their course however

  • A Magsafe 85w power adapter would be detrimental to my MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid 2010)

    Hi all!

    I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid 2010, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).

Well, after years of abuse, the thinner rope (which connects to the Macbook) began to tear. I tried to drag an above shrink wrap to fix and make it last a little longer, but now I find myself stirring the rope around so he can start loading.

in any case, I found a company after-market on Amazon called Supsun making (link below) and recently purchased a. He said that going to work with my Macbook, but I think not even check what power mine use and after he woke up, I found out mine originally a 60w.

Will this hurt Magsafe Supsun 85w power adapter my mid 2010 13-inch Macbook in anyway?

I thank you for all your comments!

Link to Supsun adapter that I bought on Amazon:

    F8 & PSC = 1

I, personally, look at the price difference and ask myself I'd be sad if I saved money and things did not work well.

iOS9 on a mobile device requires iTunes 12.3 or higher, which in turn requires a computer running OSX 10.8.5 or higher.  Update of the system only checks the updates for the current version of the system you run, but that itself can be updated.  It may or may not be possible to upgrade your computer to the system requirements. Find your computer on the web site of model and near the bottom of the specification of the system section, he will tell what versions of the operating system, it is able to run. If you can not run a newer system, you will not be able to sync this phone to your current computer. If she can run 10.8.5 or higher, you can either buy a download for Apple OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion code online, or you can try to install the free El Capitan OSX 10.11.  El Capitan can run slower on older machines and require the additional purchase of RAM.  Making a big jump in versions of system is also more likely to affect the old software.
