The use of vmware Fusion to install Bootcamp

DVD drive of my Macbook Pro is broken and I need to install Windows on the bootcamp partition.

Is it possible to do or does someone here who has done this before?

I found several ideas / pointers like modifieng control files & allowing them to point to the partition boot camp, but no longer had a chance.

Thank you for any suspicion!

Many thanks to the development team of VMWare for this great product!

Thanks, it's always encouraging to hear the satisfaction.

I just upgraded to 3.1.2 Fusion via Auto-Update, rebooted and suddenly appears the bootcamp partition. I then started the installation program and now Windows installs with happiness.

So for me this issue is resolved.

Hmm, wait. First, Fusion does not boot then sector produce or use Boot Camp virtual machines, so I can't install Windows via Fusion will start in native mode. Second, virtual material seems different from physical hardware. If it does not start in native mode, Windows can not like the changes. The same thing happens in reverse order when you run a Boot Camp in merge partition for the first time. Fusion fiddles drivers beforehand to make it smoother, but you'll not that goes in the direction of another.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but using Fusion to install a Boot Camp partition is not something we test and may not work - I wouldn't count it as a success until you have at least checked if you can start the partition natively.

I'll assume that your question is in fact to return to the physical optical drive (rather than the image of McAfee), does not actually uninstall McAfee.

Right click on the D: drive and eject it. Then go to the Virtual Machine > CD/DVD and select use physical disk drive. It is documented in the release notes to the title of "The rest McAfee antivirus ISO mounted".

  • A product key from an old computer can be used for vmware fusion on a new mac?

We used to own a Dell computer with windows XP Professional OS. Lately, we have switched all of our Mac computers and no longer use the old windows computer. I have the product key for this OS and I was hoping to use the CD of windows XP on VMware fusion and relocation (in order to play video games). So far, the installation was almost a success until it would not accept the old operating system product key. Is there a way to get a new product key?
PS The only purpose is for the PC games we have.

can I get another free product key? I still have the old computer

you need to know if the old pc had an O E M version of windows, because

windows OEM versions are locked to the motherboard of the PC they where first installed at.

If the product key you have is from a version marketed Windows (non oem) you can install the version on another pc if you take away the first pc.

in other words, a version on a pc at the same time.

You should check with the microsoft Web site dealing with pirated software and product keys.

    Hello

I am trying to install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro retina (has no optical drive).

    I use VMware Fusion 5 and a USB 3.0 32 GB.

On a Windows 8 machine I made an iso file of my Win 7 DVD.

With WIndows 7 USB tool that I put is on my USB key.

But when I connect my USB from VMware key, I get the message "the device 'JetFlash mass storage device' was unable to connect to its ideal host controller."

Yesterdat I got this but it worked once but now I want to do it again and it does not work.

So, just that to be clear, there are things that works very well for you now or do you still have questions related to this topic?

  • VMware Fusion 3 Installing Applications problem

    Hello

Whenever I try to install an application on my Windows XP through VMware fusion virtual machine, the installation fails. I tried to install Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, failing both. I tried both the mounting ISOs and use of official records. The message that I get when I try to install MS Word is attached.

Note: When I first installed the virtual machine I installed Visual Basic 6, which works very well to date.

Once again, not a matter of actual Fusion and you need to refer to Microsoft for a solution.

Take a look at the following and it was only the first three when searching for the error "The Windows Installer Service is not to be accessible":

    Hello

    Uninstall VMware tools

    Restart your guest operating system

    Install VMware Tools

    Restart your guest operating system

    Normally this should be it.

Please note that a Windows repair install is not likely going to remedy.

  • What happened to the 'light' of VMware Fusion 7 has been released since version?

Earlier versions of VMware Fusion has always had a 'light' version, which did not include the McAfee or the VMware tools.

For some reason any now with version 7, this option seems to be gone. Any idea when / if a lighter version finally released?

    Example: VMware-Fusion - 6.0.2 - 1398658-fire.dmg

    -----

Note: there are two different versions of merge available for download: a version is complete is a larger file to download; the other version is marked 'light' and is a smaller download, but includes no VMware Tools .iso files for Linux or the McAfee AntiVirus Plus software.

Article is not entirely accurate and I suspect that when "VMware Fusion 7.x" was added to "product version (s):" and other sections on the page it was the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.  It is my understanding that starting with VMware Fusion 7 it will be only the image of an installer, without the image of com.vmware.fusion.zip.tar update Fusion.app from VMware downloads, "VMware Fusion 7 with VMware Tools for all operating systems (full Installation)" for example "VMware-Fusion - 7.0.1 - 2235595.dmg".  The AntiVirus is downloaded when clicking on ' Install McAfee AntiVirus Plus in the menu 'Virtual Machine', if desired. • 17 GB of drive space missing after the crash of vmware fusion and force restart

During my last installation of SuSE Linux, I had to manually reboot my system because my system crashed.

After the reboot, I deleted the virtual machine of Susa and started again installation. To my surprise 17 GB were mission on my hard drive and I can't find the files responsible for this. I checked my system of files larger than 500 MB via ' find /-size M + 500 ", but found nothing: (.)

Do you know where are the 17 GB or where vmware fusion may have experienced a system core dump or something like that?

Please help, I need the 17 GB for resettlement :).

    Thank you.

    Simon

I have discovert that was missing only 3 GB of the 20 GB that I deleted before trying to install SuSE. But I deleted all the files that I specified after the crash. The trash is always empty so I'm a bit confused were are the 17 GB.

    Hello

I know that this answer is probably passed your test of VMware.

  • What is the use of Vmware vcenter device? and when it can be used? is it free?

Hi guys - when can we see VMware vcenter device an option? Is it free?

Is that it is contemporary with the linux version of VMware vcenter windows version with Sql express?

When we use this? Why not to choose windows VMware Vcenter license version if it is available for free? (up to max. 5 hosts and VM 50 s for how long we can use this in our environment)

    Kind regards

    Abhishek Singh

According to me, there's no difference between vCenter through windows & device licenses.

You will get vCenter license (as a whole) and now its your choice to deploy vCenter either on windows or deploy the same form of appliance. Once deployed, you must apply the license.

If you opt for the vCenter Foundation, you will get the same set of features you deploy the VC under windows or as an appliance. It is the same for the standard vCenter license. If you deploy on windows, you need windows license as well.

  • Problem with the video for "VMware vSphere Hypervisor - install and configure.

    Hello

    In this page: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?lp=default & p = free-esxi5

When you click on the "Installation and configuration" tab, we have access to videos for vSphere Hypervisor.

But at the moment, none of the video can be shown.  I tried this in my computer at home as well as my company computer and none works.

Someone who works for VMware please check this problem.

    Thank you

OK, I just found what was "wrong".  These videos are "optimized" for Internet Explorer!   Yes, I tried on Firefox and Chrome on XP Pro and Win7, nothing worked.  Then after reading your message, I thought ' what happens if I try that? "  ... and indeed, the videos are displayed inside, I.e. I got suddenly a bad feeling, like I was back at the beginning of the 21st century!

Come on!  Who would still do 'optimized' only website to know today?   I'm sure they will not be displayed on my Tablet either.

I found these videos on YouTube:

    http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=Xss_2Qx51fU

    http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=ZHUjDWpHJvU

    http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=_MofPJsG9gQ

I think they are the same videos (but the quality is really bad... 360 p.: geez!).  Could someone confirm that they are indeed the same as those in vmware.com?  THX

PS: Oh, on the section "Help", I found it at help | United States but I've seen no paragraph telling me how to report a problem on the website.

  • Buy VMware Fusion 7, but the v5 download and run the merger also?

I looked on the website of VMware, but impossible to find the answer to this question:

A customer can purchase VMware Fusion version 7 (the current version) but also to download and run an earlier version of VMware Fusion (for example, merger v5) for temporary use? Here's an example scenario:

    * A VMware customer has two Macs. One is an old Mac running Snow Leopard, and the other is a new Mac running Mavericks or Yosemite. The customer wants to use the new Mac, go ahead (and give the old Mac). The client runs even a few applications that are not supported on what it is later than Snow Leopard (for example PowerPC applications). The obvious solution is to run these applications in a guest of Snow Leopard Server in VMware Fusion on the new Mac.

    * The problem is that Snow Leopard Server does not install as a guest operating system on the recent Mac models of the client, but it can run an existing Snow Leopard Server prompt that was created on an older Mac.

    * The client has this old Snow Leopard Mac. Unfortunately, it won't run VMware Fusion 7. It will run in VMware Fusion version 5, however. The customer wants to run VMware Fusion 5 on the old Mac to create the Snow Leopard Server on old Mac prompt, then copy the comments for the new Mac where it can run under VMware Fusion 7.

    HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:

--> How can the customer buy VMware Fusion 7, but also to download a copy of VMware Fusion 5 for this operation 'create a Snow Leopard Server prompt' unique on the old Mac?

-> Will VMware provide a Fusion 5 license when the trial period expires on the old Mac before the customer can get a Snow Leopard Server comments work?

I sent you this link last night via Message private and also posted in your other thread on the subject.  You should be able to use as disk utility here: create a disk image of physical Mac OS X install media.

If this process fails to create an image that starts on your newer Mac, please let us know, as this is a question we want to address.  I'm not aware of any circumstances which require a downgrade from Fusion 5 install Snow Leopard Server.

    Thank you

  • Selection of the method of Installation of VMWare Fusion 7

So I take an edx online course: Introduction to computer CS50x. I am following the installation of VMware Fusion instructions found at the following link: https://manual.cs50.net/appliance/2014/fusion/

I followed the instructions in step #4: I double click the icon of VMware Fusion. I clicked on 'Open' when prompted. I typed my administrative password. I accepted the license agreement. I inserted the license key. I am now in the window "select the installation method. But herein is the problem. I do not know what installation method to choose, and there are no instructions on it. My options are: (1) import of disk or image; (2) import existing PC; (3) install OS X from the recovery partition; (4) import a virtual machine existing; (5) installation of Boot Camp. and (6) create a custom virtual machine.  There are no instructions or advice to navigate through these options.

    Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

From what you have posted, it seems to me that the merger has been successfully installed. The dialog box "Select installation method" you see is Fusion trying to be helpful and you guide in the creation of your first virtual machine.

At this stage of VMware Fusion and eject the mounted disk installation image (so that you do not open the installation program when you must open the copy installed on your disk). Continue to step 5 to download your virtual appliance of the format .ova.
