There is no reference of the virtual machine to the storage

I have a virtual machine with a reference to a NFS read only the storage location.  But I can not find source of this reference.  I reviewed the parameters of the virtual machine, and there is no reference that I see.  The vmdk is not reference, nor is the SEO cd player.  To complicate matters, the nfs went offline and is no longer available.   I tried to delete the storage on the host computer in vcenter 5 (device), but could not because of the reference to the virtual machine.

I connected the host computer in vsphere 5 and virtual machine did not have this reference.  The host had that nfs as a reference of storage, but the virtual machine is not, unlike in vcenter.  So I removed the storage on the host computer.  Back connected to vcenter and the virtual machine always has the reference for storage.

Welcome to the community,

If I understand you correctly, you see the extra storage in addition to the correct storage for your virtual computer! This occurs if you created a snapshot, while the storage has been active for this virtual machine. Once you delete the snapshots storage displayed will be deleted also.

    Hello

I decided to increase the RAM of a virtual machine and storage space in which stood the machine is less than 1 GB, it says that it is impossible to start the virtual machine. So I decided to move the virtual machine to secondary storage which had enough free space.

How can I make vSphere Client aware of this change? How can I know what's happened? what I need is to boot the machine which is now moved to secondary storage. is this possible?

    THX

After again moving data store, you must register this virtual machine to be visible in the list at left.

1 browse the data store and open the corresponding VM folder

    2. Select the .vmx file and right-click.

    3. Select the option "Add to the inventory" and keep clicking Next until you have finished.

    4. now switch on the machine. He will ask a question that you copied or moved.

    5. Select I moved it.

    6. your machine is running.

And you can see the virtual machine in the list after step 3 itself.

  • delete a virtual disk of the virtual machine of broken storage

I have a virtual disk to a virtual machine on a broken iSCSI storage,

now I can not remove the disc from the virtual machine.

ESX 4.1 does not see the now broken iSCSI storage.

    See attach.

Remove the virtual machine from the inventory and edit VMX manually deleting the reference to this disk. After that, add the machine virtual back again for the inventory.

  • Move the virtual machines to new storage device

I recently added a storage IBM DS3200 SAS device to my VMware ESX 3.5 server.  I am running 6 VMs locally on the server and I would like to move the virtual machines to the new storage device.  I have formatted disks and the ESX Server sees.  What is the best way to move the virtual machines that currently reside locally on the external storage device?

  • Is there a software to simulate the storage array-based?

    Hi all

I'm testing vmotion ESXi host to another. but I need shared storage. To do this, I need a software to simuate storage of brightness to be presented to both ESXi hosts. Is there a software that meets my needs?

    Thank you

Yes, I use openfiler for this. It's free and you can use it as an iSCSI target to introduce a shared for your ESX host storage. It will run as a virtual machine.

  • Questions about replication of virtual machines using EMC storage

    Hello

If we have a configuration on 5200 VNX and ready to replicate to Dominican Republic

What are EMC replication Solutions, if not use Recoverpoint?
I have to add licenses of replication with the Suites of the app for that?

and whether using Recoverpoint, it is essential to use SRM for replication can be configured using Recoverpoint and VNX licenses only?

and for another program installation is with 10 GB iscsi ports, what are the possible solutions?

    Thank you

There are several choices for replication with EMC VNX. You can use Mirrorview. MirrorView/S (synchronous) is for short distances and Mirrorview/A (asynchronous) for longer distances and time of higher latency and low latency. You will need a license from EMC Recoverpoint or Mirrorview. Recoverpoint appliances can now be virtual with version 4. ISCSI is required for a virtual Recoverpoint deployment.

You don't have to use RS with Recoverpoint, although I would recommend that you do. SRM automates many manual steps that are necessary to retrieve your VMs. SRM will be integrated with Recoverpoint or Mirrowview and you will be able to script recovery plans. In the case of the manual recovery plans would be required and will need to be updated.

You can also duplicate with suppliers other than EMC software. VMware has built the replication that is fine. Veeam also sells software for replication.

  • Best way to move a virtual machine from local storage to iSCSI

Migrate? Clone? Export? Other options?  No, we didn't have any iSCSI storage when we started.

What about sVMotion?  in this way, you can perform a live migration.  If this is not the case, stop the comments and make a cold migration.  Two of these suggestions are assuming your vCenter running.

  • Virtual machine be abandoned error during the installation of the Java EE SDK

    Hi all

I try to install java_ee_sdk-6u3-jdk7-windows - x 64 .exe on our new Windows Server 2012 machine but the Setup program starts and I then get a configuration box appears which says: error: the VM of Java (TM) dropped out.  I looked in the event viewer and there is no messages and I tried to get the installer to create a log file (from the-l < loglocation > parameter) but he doesn't seem to get that, although no log is created.

The first time I tried to start the JavaEE installation on this machine, it installed everything ok but not to create the windows service such as missing of .NET Framework 3.5.  So I uninstalled JavaEE and added in the .NET Framework 3.5 and then my troubles began.  I have already installed these versions of Java and JavaEE successfully on a machine Windows Server 2012 previous who had the .NET Framework 3.5 on it.

The JRE already installed on the computer is jre-6u45-windows - x 64 .exe and I am logged on as administrator.  I tried to uninstall JRE and resettlement and also do a registry clean using CCleaner incase there are ancient references to the JRE/JavaEE, but it did not help.

If someone can give me clues as to why this error pops up, I would be very grateful!

    Thank you

    Caroline

Finally got it working after a lot more headscratching.  Turned out just by the way the path for the JRE installation was not good enough, I had to include the drive letter too even though it was on the same drive!

  • Location of the VMX file for a virtual machine

    My problem,

I have a bunch of VM that names the real record of the VM and files below are NOT the same as the VM name shown at the VI appointed client. -J' it can't wait... makes more complicated

I want to know is if there is a way to a virtual machine that is in inventory and get the path to his report and the real VMX path of query file, which I guess would give me the name of the data store and the record in the data store.

    My question for example:

    My - vma: (in VIclient)

[myds0100]/web34/web34.vmx (because if I get off by accessing the site after clicking on 'my - vma' VM in viclient)]

    You can do

    Get - VM | Select the path Name,@{N="VMX"; E={$_. ExtensionData.Config.Files.VmPathName}}

You could also have a look at the VIProperty called VmxDatastoreFullPath.

  • Deploy the new virtual machine with version 7 on vSphere HW 5

    Hello

Is there a parameter / method of new virtual machines with the 7 deplpy (and NOT HW version 8) hardware on a vSphere host version 5?

We currently have a mixed cluster (vSphere 4.0 U2 & 5.0 U1 Hosts) with activated automatic DRS.

NB.  I found that 1.5 vCloud Director boasts a version of VM HW (v7 or v8) framework that is useful for mixed clusters. I hope that vSphere itself may have a similar setting.

Yes, it is certainly possible. Simply select "Custom" in the "New VM" Wizard and you will be able to decide which version HW (7 or 8) you want to use for this virtual machine.

  • Experience with the moving of virtual machines

I want to ask this question, the opinion of other users in the forum.  I have a host ESX (3.5, 163429).  I'll build a new ESX host and the patch at the same level.  Are there any pitfalls to move existing virtual machines to the new ESX host?  The material will be very different, because it is a newer than my current ESX host server.  I do not plan on using vMotion to move these VMs.  All the tips are greatly appreciated.

Virtual HW exposed to VMS is identical except for the cpu, VMs are not aware of the real chipset, controllers, memory, scsi, and so on. Cold migration to intel AMD does not need to change anything inside the virtual machine. However, the physical processor *IS* visible to virtual machines. So, if you are running VMs that loading a specific kernel for processors Intel or AMD CPU (like Linux), you may have a problem.

  • Migrate the Virtual Machine Linux to ESXi

    Hi all

I have VMware Server 1 base on CentOS as operating system with a few VMs, VMS spot on my map of storage with NFS.

I start converting those VMs with vmware converter 4.0 beta, I convert ESXi virtual machine move to storage even but with iSCSI.

So far I have only converted machines Windows without problem, now, I try to convert the Linux (ContOS 5),

After the conversion, I try to turn on the machine, but get a "Kernel Panic"

    Impossible to mount the SYSROOT.

    Please see attach.

Until I find a solution I return to this virtual machine to the old vmware server 1 and then it works.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

    Hello

I don't speak of computer virtual SCSI controller, you can get to know that this process.

    (1) select the virtual machine.

    (2) right click go to properties.

    (3) select the Hardware tab, check for SCSI controller entry there you can see if it's the logic Lsi logic or bus controller.

Once again something that I want to confirm, during the conversion, you had a SCSI disk for this virtual machine.

    Thank you

  • Clone the virtual machine between two ESX 3.5.0 servers (low connection)

    Hi all!

I have two ESX 3.5.0 servers that are managed by a vCenter servers one have just the connection of 32 KB.

I need to clone one of my virtual machines from one to the other ESX is W2k8 created with 40 GB HARD drive. I tried to start it clone trough my low connection, but the task is about 86% for 4 days :|

Is it possible to clone virtualmachine on one of my ESX for its local storage and after that, get it by vCenter for example an external HARD drive and then copy them all to my second ESX? How to run copied virtual machine on my second ESX? Maybe I can do it with another way - ideas?

Two ESX are the same versions and machines, only the names and the ip addresses are different.

    Thanks for the tips

    Kris

I don't think it is possible since the virtual disk will be 40 GB in size - I was suggesting using a laptop as a server NFS ESX sees and access the virtual machine for this storage clone - it take the first vessel of ESX host it to secondary site attach NFS datastore on the second ESX Server and using the browser of data store you navigate to the cloned VMX of VM file and to him the second ESX host - you can cold migrate leaving the second host and then move the cursor above for the storage you want.

  • Remove the old keyboard/trackpad reference of the new iMac

I recently got an iMac and had to return because of a problem. Before doing so I took a time machine backup, and when I received my replacement iMac I restored from this backup. Under bluetooth in system preferences, there are still references to the 2 of Magic Trackpad and Keyboard 2 Magic that has been associated with the faulty iMac. I tried clicking on the "x" that appears as I mouse over the devices, but it does not work. It says "Unable to connect to device" and a "Pair" button appears. Of course, I can't pair it with these devices because they are no longer in my possession.

Someone at - it had similar problems or can help me?

I ended up editing the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file in ~ Library/preferences. In this file the devices are listed by MAC address in HIDDevices. I found the MAC addresses correct by right clicking the devices I wanted to delete under system-> Bluetooth preferences. Remove these items in the file .plist and logout and back in solved my problem. If anyone else has this problem: it's a good idea to make a copy of the .plist file before editing.
