ThinkPad R400 7440 memory

Hi, I bought a used model of ThinkPad R400 7440. It comes with 2 GB of DDR3 (1 GB * 2 modules)

I want to install more memory, so I headed to the R400 documentation, and it is said that R400 can have up to 4 GB of memory. However, the article was quiet. I searched in Google and found people who suggest that the R400 can handle up to 8 GB of RAM! Crucial seems to agree with this opinion.

Is there someone who has a ThinkPad R400 and managed to successfully install and use the 8 GB of memory?

Thank you

I use sticks of RAM PC3 - 10600 S Samsung 4 GB 2Rx8 (2 of them), you can also use Crucial brand, or any other ram with similar specs.

  • R400 - bought ddr3 1066 mhz memory but works in 399 mhz?

Hi, I own a Thinkpad R400 and recently I bought memory for her. Memory is 2 x Samsung PC3-8500 1066 mhz DDR3 1 GB and now that I'm checking CPU - Z for mem clock it says its 399 mhz running? Latest version of Memtest 86 + reports also 399 mhz DDR800. This does not seem fair to me. CPU - Z says as FSBRAM ratio is 1:2, Bus speed: 199.5 MHz and FSB: 798 MHz I have the latest version of the bios for R400 which I think is of 3.20... motherboard is 7440WHW, I don't mean to overclock any component just get whats promised. Help, please.

This may be the result of your CPU (T6670) that can be run at 800 mhz FSB, rather than the P8xxx, T9xxx, P9xxx, which can operate at 1066 mhz FSB.

  • Artifacts R400 weird screen (integrated graphics) running Win 7 RTM

Pretty much no matter what I do - I keep seeing weird "artificats" on my screen (integrated display and when to use an external monitor).  It is not a particular activity that requires even if switching windows exacerbates the problem.  I tried to use the pre-installed driver Win 7 and the latest drivers from Intel's RTM (Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows 7 Release Candidate), and it made no difference.

What I see on the screen, it's as if a DVI connection is bad, but I can only compress/maximize the active window and immediately cleared debris from the screen.  I have a lot of free memory and don't have many applications open at any time. If I take a screen when this happens, debris from the screen appears there too, probably isn't the output device, but something is happening with the graphics card itself.

I disabled the Aero graphics until someone can help me understand what is happening.  I should not have done it on a new computer laptop!  What is the problem here?

    All,

We have published a official tip on what lies on our support site.

    Visual corruption - ThinkPad R400, R500, T400, T400s, T500, W500, X 200, X200s, X 200 Tablet, X 301

    Symptom

Visual corruption is seen on the screen. He tends to start isolated to a specific application window, but then starts quickly appear on all other windows in the application, and the office. Corruption usually appears as garbled text or images scrambled.

    Configurations affected
    The following configuration:
Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed-IO (VT - d) is enabled in the BIOS Setup utility.
There are two bars of memory DIMM in the system, and they have a different size (for example, 2 GB and 1 GB).
On one of the following systems:
    ThinkPad R400(*1), R500(*2)
    T400(*1), T500(*1), T400s ThinkPad
    ThinkPad W500(*1)
    ThinkPad X 200, X200s, X 200 Tablet, X 301
    * 1: for models with switchable graphics, the system must be integrated graphics mode to see the failure.
    * 2: models with integrated only graphics.

    Workaround

    Option 1:
Disable virtualization for directed-IO (VT - d). This can be done in the BIOS Setup utility. When the system is first start (during POST), press F1 to enter the Setup utility. Then enter the Config menu and the submenu of the CPU. Changing VT - d for persons with reduced mobility.

    Option 2:
Make sure that there is only a single memory DIMM in the system.

    Option 3:
Make sure the memory of two DIMMs in the system are of equal size. For example, both are 2GB.
    VT - d
Virtualization for directed-IO (VT - d) technology is an assist of hardware for virtualization of i/o device (primary the DMA and interrupts). VT - d is not necessary to support a virtual machine running (to the knowledge of Lenovo at the moment). Some VMMs require that material help for virtualization to be activated, but it is a separate VT - d setting. In the same screen of the BIOS Setup, there is a parameter called virtualization technology, which is the most commonly used feature.
Here is a link to the Intel site describing Vt - d.

  • Installation of memory channel to W520

I am planning to complete all 4 locations of memory with 4 GB each. I bought a pair of memory cards, are "dual channel kit. The question is where to put these two so that the couple works as a memory dual channel?

From the manual, it is not really clear which is which slot. I guess, the slots located under the keyboard are identified as SLOT 0 (top) and SLOT 0 b (bottom). Down those are 2 SLOT (left) and the SLOT 2 b (right).

Official video of W510, it looks like SLOT 0 and SLOT 2 are primary modules and SLOT 0 b and 2B SLOT are secondary modules. These bananas are called as 1 & 3 under the keyboard and 3 & 4 low on video.

The pair go to the SLOT 0a and 0b SLOT? It is under the keyboard.

Or the pair goes from 0 to SLOT & SLOT 2A? The one on top one on the bottom, but both in the main channel.

  • The R400 processor upgrade options

I have an old Thinkpad R400 with a CPU T6570 currently and I think to be upgraded.

He uses the Socket P so I thought to upgrade to an intel Q9100... Maybe even a QX9300.

I know he's not in decision-making, my question tho is the bios motherboard will support any processors?

y at - it might be a list somewhere what type of processors are supported? or perhaps are all Socket P processors supported?

    Thanks, Janbanan22

Fix. No support for quad cores on this platform.

X 9100 would, however, but it would be warm enough.

You make the smart choice with the T9600. Enjoy!

  • R400 wireless do not install

I just Thinkpad R400 yesterday with XP installed. Could not enable the Wireless Lan even after activation in the BIOS.

Hi Salifou and welcome to the Lenovo user community!

    I have some ideas.

First of all, there's a forward wireless radio switch left of the R400. Is it in position on?

Then try Fn + F5. A dialog box should appear. It shows the live wire?

  • Maximum memory capacity

    Hello

I have a ThinkPad x121e (from memory) that I love.

However, it has a memory limit of 8 GB.

I need of more memory so that I can host Virtual Machines to do the work of development - I was wondering what made current ThinkPad models supported 16 GB of RAM (not necessarily out of the box, but by buying Crucial or similar).

I searched and found a page, but it was not aware:

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-55644

That is to say. It does not show the X carbon 1 or Yoga (I know that's not thinkpad) models

Basically, I'm after something similar to what I have with improvements (a little bigger would be nice but not too big - say max 14 ") - a good autonomy, can have windows 8.1, a touch screen and can get an SSD (still happy to upgrade via crucial or any other third party) and can support 16 GB of RAM.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Michael.

  • R400 boot on USB

Hello. Is it possible to boot from a USB stick (or USB key, what you call) on my ThinkPad R400 (7443 - 11G)?

  • T400 Memory Max

    Hi all

How much is the max of the Thinkpad T400 DDR3 memory is able to manage? Some sites say 4 GB, with other 8 GB. And I'm having a hard time finding a 4 GB dimm... I think that the news are contradictory because the 4 GB DIMMs are not yet available. Am I wrong? For your info, Yes, I have 64 bit Vista (argh).

    Thank you!

    Hugues

Chipset in the T400 supports up to 8 GB memory DDR3.  DDR3 is still pretty new, so you will be hard-pressed to find 4GB SODIMM immediately.

    : edit:

Here's your "evidence"... in Lenovo T400's description, it says up to 8 gb [of course, you'll need a 64 bit for what OS anyone beyond 3 GB to use]: http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/merchandising/US/PDFs/t400_and_t500_datasheet.pdf

You can also consult the Intel site and look for your chipset and see that he takes supporting up to 8 GB.

  • desktop computer takes a long time to load after uninstall of netware

Dear Pascal, recently, by chance, I installed the client service for Netware on my PC. He asked to restart the computer, and after reboot, logon screens became classic. I uninstalled netware by accessing the properties of LAN. I managed to restore logon screens using Microsoft resources available on the net. However, my PC now takes * for long time for the desktop icons and toolbar are displayed. I use Microsoft Windows XP Version 2002 SP3, Intel Core2Duo processor P8600 @2.40 Ghz with 2 GB of RAM on Lenovo Thinkpad R400. I understand that it is after uninstalling the netware client that my office is very very slow. Help me for a faster loading of the desktop computer. Best regards, Reba Shankar

    Hey Reba,

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!

You have reached the right forum. Try to solve this problem.

If I understand correctly, you have some performance issues on windows XP computer.

Let us try the following steps:

Method 1: Any installed program must be uninstalled from Add and remove programs. You can just remove shortcuts from other places like LAN properties.

Run the following fix - it to uninstall client services for Netware.

Solve problems with programs that cannot be installed or uninstalled:

Method 2: See the following article:

    Important notes:

    ·         Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

    ·         The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.
