ThinkPad T61 random BSOD with VISTA SP1

Hello everyone, I'm new to this Forum.

The reason why I joined the community is because I'm going to random BSOD followed to stop and restart my T61. It started some time earlier this year when I installed Vista updates with the system update utility. It seems Vista Business SP1 related somehow. Well, I could not solve the problem, I did a clean install of Vista Business SP1 with all up-to-date drivers and software from the Lenovo Site. The problem still remains, and I couldn't find a solution.

I installed the Windows Debugger tool und just managed to use the tool and get a report (I am inexperienced). Here are the specifications of my ThinkPad and a snapshot of the debug report.

Any hint is appreciated with the best regards from Switzerland ;-)

In the meantime, I found the solution to my problem. My ThinkPad T61 is anchored to a mini advanced docking station. When you use four USB ports, the system blocks at random resulting in a BSOD. Since I use only 3 USB ports no BSOD more.

Take care and have fun with your ThinkPad

    Hello

Unfortunately I'm not surprised at all symptoms you described.

    As I said above:

My main concern is that the material side of the issue is rooted in the video to verify that
as much as you can. And of course it can still be heat related.

Do not forget to ask in the Nvidia Forums (and support) to see if others have the same

  • Windows Vista SP2, random BSOD with error checking code 0 x 19

    Hi all

I have seemingly random crashes on my old laptop 3 years recently - BSOD with error checking code 0 x 0000019 (0x00000020, 0xe92f4780, 0xe92f48d0, 0x0a2a0440), and BlueScreenView says that accidents are caused by ntkrnlpa.exe and Ntfs.sys. I have absolutely no idea why it happened--unusual does update, none of the material changes & software installations. The system hangs especially after maybe one or two days after starting with some sleep & wake ups inbetween and the only accidents while there are prominent running shows - namely, all the accidents that happened while I was running Firefox. Seconds before the BSoD (shell & all) system simply freezes and does not respond to ctrl + alt + delete, but is still running (as indicated by the fact that once, I forced a power off and after that restart the event log indicates the previous stop at was not planned), then watch the usual BSoD screen.

After doing some googling, I began to suspect that this should be a memory or a hard drive problem, or maybe an overheating causing the two since he not there no significant change of software on my computer recently again issues just appeared without reason. So I cleaned my laptop fan and the heatsink and ensured that the hot air can leave the chassis without being blocked, did some checking of memory with memory auditing Windows - no problems in 5 innings and ran chkdsk on my system partition with all available options - perfectly normal, but the chkdsk has acted quite strangely that check all took about 30 seconds and no normal as the ID information of partition, size etc. that should be there never appeared; is this a normal behavior? or something is wrong with my chkdsk?

I'm still (lol) impatiently waiting for the next crash, not sure whether the problem is still there or not. Meanwhile could you please help me understand what is the problem with my system?

It seems that the disc is the most likely cause. If it is intermittent, it may be difficult to diagnose.

The manufacturer of the laptop provides any diagnosis?  Several manufacturers have a key at startup to access the diagnostics.

CHKDSK should last several minutes. There is information about the different ways to run chkdsk here:

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/67612-check-disk-Chkdsk.html

You can try this disc test program:

    http://www.Seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/SeaTools/

If the version of WIndows does not find anything. Try to use the version BACK from a CD.

  • Lenovo T61 - 7663-AY2 uninstall Vista SP1 to SP2 and now cannot restart

    Hello community,

I did something wrong with my Lenovo computer.

I tried to upgrade vista SP1 to SP2 in order to continue to receive updates from windows, but I failed to improve.

I read on a forum that to go if you have some difficulties to move from SP1 to SP2, the best thing to do is to uninstall SP1, in order to re-install again and after the update to SP2 is easy.

So I uninstalled Vista SP1: KB936330 from my laptop and now it cannot restart. I'm facing the famous! 0xc01a001d! registry error.

I tried all content restoration factory (MS DOS, restoring from the last restore point), but it cannot restart.

Is there a usual thing do in this case, before the start in the order, he returned with the factory setting?

My warranty expired on September 21, 2010, and I bought my computer in France while I am in England now.

Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Problem with webcam not fixed with Vista SP1 on Portege M700

The Vista SP1 does nothing to the failure of Vista to recognize the built-in webcam Portege M700.
The existing forum thread mark this question as a response, despite the link to the document toshiba mentioning the error messages entirely different from those cited by those of us with problems

I find it strange that the M700 UK wouldn't have a built in webcam; is it really true?

    Hello

I noticed a problem with webcam in time early Vista release, but it was linked to the Vista OS stroller and was solved by SP1.

Sorry, but another problem with webcam into the unknown for me and as far as I know internal webcam works fine also on Portege M700.

As you already suggested the internal webcam is not available on all Portégé M700 series. Toshiba notebooks, any series, are equipped with different hardware specifications and example to the webcam internal, in the light of the webcam and internal microphone are available on some models.

Maybe no problem with a webcam, but some Portégé M700 does not really have an internal webcam ;)

    Hello!

Disable you the touchpad with FN keys?

  • Re: Equium P200 close issue with Vista SP1

My Equium P200 seems to have developed a problem when stopping down.

If I select 'Shut Down' option in the Shut Down menu then all revenues, but while the laptop restarts itself and there will be a 'blue screen of death' teling me he does a memory dump physical.

When it is complete Notepad starts and there is a message saying that Windows (Vista SP1) has recovered from a serious problem.

Any ideas on how to fix?

    Thank you

AFAIK SP1 could create serious problems because of the problems of compatibility between some drivers and tools.

Have you noticed the same issue without SP1 installed?

I think you should check this!

  • TECRA M9 card reader still does not not with Vista SP1

Why Toshiba didn't supply of integrated drivers for the card reader M series for people who do not want to run the Toshiba version recompiled Vista, which allocate Inc. of the unwanted software like Norton to slow down the Vista system!

Im running a clean install retail Vista x 86 with updates, but 1-2-4 & 8gig sd cards will not work!
in Device Manager it says "the device cannot start code 10".

IM also beta SP1 which will detect the SD card, however cannot you read/write on the SD card.
An update of the factory of the SD card reader Vista is whats needed!

    Hello, Robert

At first, I must say that you are completely mistaken.

The first Toshiba does not force someone to use the recovery image only. You can install your own version of Vista at any time. I also installed Vista Ultimate on my laptop. I also installed the just necessary drivers, download page of tools and utilities following the Instructions of facilities of Toshiba document. I hope just do you the same thing.

As you wrote that you are on the tests of SP1. I also believe that Toshiba is also on the tests because SP1 is still beta version and so far not implemented the recovery image. Up until Toshiba offers no support for SP1. I can imagine different things will not work properly and Toshiba that will probably correct with the new drivers for the problematic hardware components.

In the end, I can say: you can use your own OS installation like me and thousands of other owners of Toshiba laptop.

  • Are you afraid to upgrade to Vista Sp1 with peripheral Sigmatel audio? Why...! ?

    Hello.

I have an Ispiron 6400 with the 9200 "lucky" Sigmatel audio device.

    A little review:

Device driver SigmaTel is a problem with Vista SP1, and you cannot download it from Windows update.

Windows Update suggests the IDT High definition audio installation which should replace the Sigmatel driver but causes an unexpected error = no audio device installed, RIGHT!

But now, you can download Vista SP1... GREAT!

But first I decided to remove the IDT instrument, but to do this I need to delete all Sigmatel applications as IDT pilot install itself on and in the old software so I reinstall the Sigmatel driver form Dell site (R147073).

Audio device is now works well but... Oh miracle... now after this little joke Windows Vista sp1 is available in windows update...

So make the choice for me:

    (1) "now" the driver is compatible with windows vista sp1 and I should update

    (2) someone suggest installing the Sigmatel R147075 driver but I would like evidence that is not designed for the Inspiron system and for example it does not recognize SPDIF and he sees two different microphone that does not exist however, it is compatible SP1 and I should update

    (3) I probably found a bug in the windows vista update, and now he thinks that I don't have a Sigmatel device and I shouldn't update.

    (4) I'm afraid

Dell, please you are ready with the driver for your new laptop, my laptop support... I bought it 1 year ago... and it's always covered... Your support is excellent, why change? Give to use precise indication...

PS... Download driver IDT is currently not available from windows update... funny, isn't it? It's like Office genuine advantage... present last week and after he disappeared... I'm afraid

  • Windows Vista SP1

I thought everyone (not just users of lenovo) had problems with Vista SP1. Personally, I'm going to stay away from her until I am sure that it is 100% sure.

  • Has managed to recover from the infinite loop restart Vista SP1 "configuration updates stage 3 of 3 0%"- but Windows Update always wants me to install Vista SP1!

WIndows Update asks me to install Vista SP1. I did and got into the infamous infinite loop of SP1 (infinite loop ' configuration updates stage 3 of 3 0% "with Vista SP1). I used F8 to repair my computer, and I chose a restore before the SP1 update point has been installed. The restore point has been applied successfully, so I have the computer in the back. Super. However, Windows Update wants me reinstall Vista SP1. Needless to say, I am reluctant to do so. But I want to be aware of the Windows updates. What do I do? TIA

(With the help of Vista Home Premium)

    This gives a whirlwind:

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

1B. download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. right click on the file that you saved in # 1 above and select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    4. right click on the file that you saved in # 1 b above and select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    5. ensure that the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955430 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 have been installed. (If they were, they would belong to installed updates. If they don't, try to manually download/install.
