  Now that you are on the factory settings, I advise Dell DataSafe Local Backup uninstall and upgrade to the latest version of Dell backup and restoration which has many bugs/improvements, including the ability to restore to another hard drive which is useful in case the hard disk fails in the future or you decide to upgrade later to an SSD. The XPS 8300 running perfectly with a SSD, I have mine put in place with one. Then you can create a Rescue Disk (external hard drive Bootable) or Backup factory (Bootable USB Flash Drive) that will be promoted the recovery compared to the facts media with Dell DataSafe Local Backup.   Open the CS4. Create a new project and when you get the sequence settings screen, are selectable AVCHD, HDV, and XDCAM presets?

  If this isn't the case, you are using the trial version, or your full version has been restored to the status of the trial. The trial does not support anything MPEG, even when encapsulated in AVI format.

  If you have the full version which is returned to the status of first instance, follow these steps:

  1. disable

  2 uninstall

  3. run the Script own CS4

  4 reboot

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4

  6. Repeat steps 3 and 4

  7 install

  8 activate

  9. turn to update to 4.2.1

  It is quite clear that the BIOS does not recognize the hard drive.  I suspect that the IDE controller on the motherboard has failed.

  If you live in the United States, Dell has an online form to fill here: replacement of Dell drive.  If you do not live in the United States I am afraid you must contact Support Technology Guide for your region and ask for records.  Use the information required in the form US as a guide for what you will need to provide the Dell representative.

  Dell also has a page of links to procedures which allow to obtain operational back, here: Restoring or reinstalling Windows on a Dell computer.  To a blank disc, you need start step 4: manual reinstallation.  Reference Dell forum member natakuc4 has also a document on restoring Windows here: install clean windows.  This document goes into much more detail than in the Dell document and provides a better understanding of the procedures.

  Because the external hard drive seems to be working on another computer (iMac), please try a different USB port on your MacBook Pro and see if it recognizes the external hard drive on the desktop and in disk utility.   I have a MacBook Pro, OS 10.6.8 version.  The hard drive will not accept a CD or a DVD.  Thinking maybe I left a floppy disk in the drive, I tried to eject, but the eject button does not eject anything.  I have not tried to insert a disk for a long time, so do not know how long it could have been a problem without me realizing it. I tried to shut down the computer and restart, but this does not solve the problem.  I did some research using the Apple Hardware Test, but the instructions say insert the Applications install disc 2.  Unfortunately, as I can't insert a disc, I can't deal with the problem in this way?  Any suggestions?

• External hard drive USB, not received a drive letter in Vista 64-Bit

  I do not use my BeyondMicro 160 G external hard drive a lot just to make occasional backups, well this time was different.  I have powered the drive, plugged the USB cable into my PC and normal tone was heard, but NO drive letter is assigned to the drive.  In fact I couldn't find anywhere in my computer that the unit was even detected.  I Visa Ultimate 64-bit, I tried to uninstall the drivers in the Device Manager and rebooted and still no external drive, any suggestions?

  If the external hard drive not detected below are some steps to solve the problem:
   
  You can check if the device is compatible with Windows Vista by visiting the Windows Vista Compatibility Center, which includes a list of drivers, hardware and applications that are compatible with Windows Vista.

  Then, if the external hard drive is not detected in Device Manager, please check if the external drive is detected in the management of the computer:
   
  You can check this by going to: start then click on computer
  When it is connected and switched on, the drive should appear as a drive letter on the computer (ie: drive E:, F: or another letter.) An Autorun window may also appear if the drive is detected.
   
  If the external drive does not appear, please check the following:

  · Check the power supply and check if it works normally.
  · Check the wiring and check that the USB cable is plugged into a port. You can also try another USB port.

  Clonezilla is not supported by Microsoft.

  If you are unable to boot from the Vista repair disk then you will need to go into the system BIOS and make sure that it is configured to boot from the DVD drive.

  -internal 'HDD' isolation in the "boot order" (BIOS)

  -startup WinXP CD to format (says also that it cannot detect a HARD drive)

  -stroked and tweaked every possible BIOS setting

  -a ran the diagnostics (well Yes, tells me that it cannot find a HARD disk)

  -check the temperature (not a problem at all)

  I bought my D600 to opportunity without boot floppies or manuals, and private security has passed.

  I'll try to take out the battery for a day to see if that will be "flash BIOS" but I can't help you as (to my knowledge) the motherboard settings remain stored with the help of a small battery attached to the actual motherboard that would be inside the envelope, so I think it's a misunderstanding in another post on the forum , but I'll try it in desperation anyway. Next step would be to open the envelope and checking the IDE and remove the battery from the motherboard for 5-10 minutes.

  After that, my only option is to send to some local business PC repair. Ick.
